Extremely efficient and detail oriented, discussed scenarios for all the possible future outcomes, very pleasant in speaking with him. My 94 year old mother said he was very easy to speak with as well during her session. leaving her very pleased when we left. Everything was accomplished in 2 easy sessions with instructions on the homework we had between them. I felt very comfortable with the finished product and would highly recommend John to anyone looking for estate planning in addition to other attorney needs one may have.

When setting up the meeting I explained in very specific detail ALL family members needed and wanted to be involved 8n the meeting. Due to what we were trying to do and everyone being on the same page straight from the "horse's mouth" situation. It was agreed to by all, to include the legal office, up until the actual meeting. My father, brother and I were left waiting 35 mins on a dial in line and NO one came in to give us an update or status . The paralegal couldn't even say when my sister who was in person entered the room because she was "busy". They took my money, changed to rules, then left me out. They are not professional or trustworthy in my opinion.

Dathan himself was able to explain in simple terms legal documents to my elderly mother and he was incredibly knowledgeable. Made many promises about actions or timelines which, in the fullness of time, were either disingenuous or unfulfilled. Allowed our case to languish for four years. I often felt gaslighted by his choice of interpretation of events which appeared to be selectively motivated to excuse routine canceled sharing, alienating tactics, unilateral parental decisions, etc. He articulated numerous troubling statements regarding his sense of the father's roles and timesharing. (IE. I should be grateful I had "so much more time[sharing] than so many other fathers", "the best thing you can do is walk away", and angrily telling me, "You can have one or four days [every two weeks], I don't care!") Too often he derided my intellectual ability to understand his decisions rather than provide meaningful insights. I found his leadership to be ineffectual and untimely for recurring childcare concerns. Ultimately, he discharged himself from our case and left my future parental involvement on behalf of my children in a precarious and disempowered state. If you are a father, I would not recommend his services as a Guardian Ad Litem. He was unwilling to value the idea of equal fatherly involvement or something on par with the mother's role in decisions for our children.

As named representative of a recently deceased relative, I had spoken with a different lawyer who'd…read moregiven me some advice that left me uncertain, so I wanted a second opinion. I'm on the east coast so got a list of National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) lawyers and PBWS seemed a solid option that I could ask questions of. I called them last Monday. Initially I was just looking for what I imagined as a half hour of someone's time, though probably over time I'd have more questions. Even for that, they have an intake process that was a bit of an annoyance, but maybe all law offices do. The problem isn't just the delay, though that was already a factor, but the fact that you're talking to someone who isn't going to do the work, so you have to rely on them to correctly relate things, and you'll probably have to repeat yourself later. But I went ahead and explained to the person I talked to that I needed a second opinion, as another lawyer had recommended I use New Mexico's small estate process, not full probate. I said I did not want at this time to do full probate, which seemed overkill, but instead just wanted to talk to someone to ask specific questions I had about whether I was doing the small estate process correctly. The person cheerfully assured me that of course they had people who were experts and would be happy to help, but that I'd need to wait a week because things were busy. They called the next morning and set up an appointment. They said I'd get an engagement letter in email stating the scope of work, and that it was common to negotiate details. It would have to be finalized, signed, and paid to have the meeting, they explained. Other email came, but not that, so I emailed back Wednesday afternoon to inquire. I was told to wait longer, so waited until Friday and called to remind them, since my appointment was for Tuesday of this week (today, as I write this). Monday came, the day before the scheduled meeting. Still no engagement letter. So I called again. I explained the meeting was the next day. Someone told me they'd have the office manager call back, which she did at 5:40pm (7:40pm east coast time, but OK). She seemed to recognize that this was a bad look but instead of taking responsibility, she blamed it on a new hire, as if once that's fixed it'd be all fine. I've been a manager. That's poor form and a BIG red flag. New people make mistakes, but if you're relying on them to operate perfectly unsupervised, that's a management problem, not a problem with the new hire. And anyway, this was not a single point of failure. I'd already been in touch with three different people, so any one of them should have told the manager much sooner than that. Clearly a lot of process flow problems. From where I sit, this was just bad management. But I let her try to redeem herself, and she sent the engagement letter. I read it overnight. I couldn't sign it because it specifically said I was asking to have them represent me in probate, which was not the case. I'd made it clear that I wanted to use the small estate process (which as I understand it from my other lawyer, though I wanted to ask questions about that, bypasses probate). I was just looking to ask some questions and get a second opinion. The engagement letter was also all tangled up in talk about expenses that it acknowledged I might not be initially asking for but might be incurred later and that they wanted to be sure to tell me I was liable for merely if they did these things. Not a lot of reassuring talk about me getting to confirm first. Really I think they should have had a separate document that was just a price sheet that is not negotiable and is incorporated by reference. That'd have kept the engagement letter short and intelligible. The way they do it, it's all mixed together in a single document that is long and messy, not clearly separating negotiable from non-negotiable sectioning. Another red flag, as in my experience, good lawyering is about clarifying, not tangling. Still, I did my best to suggest a small change to Scope of Work, substituting a few sentences for the one critical sentence that I objected to. The next morning I got email without an apology, other than the stray use of the word "unfortunately" at one point, saying the appointment had been canceled and they couldn't represent me. Lack of legal expertise? Inability to negotiate? Conflict of interest? Didn't say. I'm out 1.5 weeks with nothing to show. They offered referral names, but they've now shown poor judgment so why would I trust them? I won't attempt to do business with this place again. They wanted $250-$350/hr for lawyer time and $140/hr for paralegal time. I'd have paid that to get good overall service, but at that kind of price tag, the office better be run better than that. Smooth process can make up for a high hourly rate, but I got no sense of that. I'm just happy I didn't get as far as signing a retainer.

I wish I had read the review from Kent P before I even called this firm. When I first called and…read morespoke to someone regarding my case I was encouraged when i was told that I would be able to do a video chat with an attorney. I did the chat with Margaret Graham on the pre arranged video call. I discussed my situation with Ms Graham. She advised me to write a letter to my brother before I went further, primarily because I expressed to her that I was not sure how to proceed because my father is a 92 year old purple heart veteran and I did not want to stress him more than my brother had. This was a case of exploitation. My older brother had taken steps to take control of my parents estate which included falsly claiming I was stealing from my Dad so he could gain control. In his process he not only removed me as POA but he got my father to sign documnets making him a joint tenant on the properties. He has also kept me from seeing my Dad. I told Ms Graham I was not interested in the property but wanted to be able to see my Dad. Ms. Graham advised me if I was unable to resolve this with the letter I could call her back and she would file. Since I was unable to resolve the issues with the letter. I called her office letting them know that I was unable to resove the issue and upon her request I was calling back to hire her to file and help me move forward. I was given an appointent for Oct. 10 @ 1:15. Today Sept 25 I received a phone call from intake to let me know that they wanted me to know that I did not have an appointment and that the firm was no longer accepting any new clients. When I told the young lady about the video call with Ms, Graham and the pre set appointment she proceeded to tell me There was no record of my having the video call nor did I have an appointment on Oct 10. What confused me, is why call me to tell me they wanted to make sure I knew I didn't have an appointment. And where did she suddenly come up with my name and number. If this never happened why call me? I am so upset because I have not seen my Dad in a year now because I have not been able to find an attorney! I Was so excited that Ms. Graham had given me advise (free consultation) and agreed to help me if the letter did not work. I don't know how much longer my Dad has and I am missing out on his last years. I am so sad that I am being told I never had the teleconferance nor did I ever have an appointent. I was told that it could not have happened, yet I fully recall what Ms. Graham looks like. I know it was not any other firm because I double checked the web page and found the photo of Ms Graham. I know I did not make the call up. I now have to start all over again to find and attorney with the clock ticking on my time with my Dad. I am so very upset especially at being accused of not ever having had that conferance call. I am not insane.
