In my google reviews I rated this a 1 star for ignoring covid guidelines when covid first hit. There were two birthday parties at once and there were so many kids and adults. That was in 2021. I returned another time and parents were just throwing their kids in the rink to tire them out because they didn't want to deal with them. The rink is old and dated and has been for years. Don't expect it to change. Like all other dates rinks, the food is overpriced chuck e cheese slop. It feels like when I was in middle and high schooI. I suggest eating before coming here. I also recommend buying your own skates as rentals are not only gross but not safe. Put that $5 back in your pocket. The music is like top 40 stuff and some old school music for the old and experienced folks. I skated on and off from middle school to summer camps and church groups. Pushing 40 and out of shape but I regained confidence. Sometimes it's not the rink itself, it's the people. It was a very chill Sunday that wasn't too crowded. if you're nostalgic or you just want a good workout, it's good. But if you're expecting a modern 2025 skating rink with today's music and gen z'ers and alphas, it's not gonna happen. read more

I went with my wife and 2 year old. It costs $47.50 even though I didn't even skate. I can't believe what they charge just to go inside and I have no idea how you charge for a 2 year old. This place is truly a rip off and they don't even invest their money well because it looks like a war zone location from the outside. It has probably never been updated from whenever they first opened decades ago. Miserable place. read more

Had an amazing time! Yes it's a little dingy but that's part of the charm. Great tunes, nice lights and excellent workout! All the workers are super sweet The only thing I'd say is it can be a little difficult to skate as an adult with all the little kids flailing around--safety wise. No doubt about it, skating at Rollermagic is a great time (and a great workout)! However, I was a little disappointed to see a larger crowd. It seemed that they weren't limiting capacity throughout the building. The sitting and dining areas were packed, the roller skating rink not so much. The staff and DJ were really good about enforcing proper mask wearing above the nose. The prices are also very reasonable! $30 for 2 people plus rentals -- not bad at all. The place itself is outdated and the rental skates are old and uncomfortable. Definitely bring your own if you have. read more

I took my 7 year old granddaughter to skate , and their ridiculous admission policy of charging all entrants full price meant I spent $30 even though I didn't skate. A complete rip off, and we will not return. read more

Such a nice place to go skating. I can't vouch for the food or the bathrooms since i didn't do any of that. However it was a Saturday night and it was skating for all ages 7p-11p. $13.50 per adult and $5 extra for skates. If your just watching you too will have to pay. After nearly 20+ years, I went skating again! It's also my 1st time at Rollermagic. I went for the adult only Friday night (didn't want to fall on kids}. I arrived right at 11p with an avid skater, after signing the waiver & paying, of course & we reserved our seating with her tote bag. Feeling nostalgic, I started on the quads (female size 7, they don't have 1/2 sizes). After several minutes of getting the laces right, I did a choppy roll/walk on the old carpet to the rink. Immediately, I felt my left foot pulling & it also felt like I was rolling on pebbles. After about 3 rounds I switched to a male size 6 quad. These felt better & smoother but it was still a workout to get momentum. I gave these about an hour before switching to blades, male size 5. Now, I was happy! The rest of the night (til 2a) I was flying around the rink (to the best of my ability). More & more people flooded in & the pros were fun to watch dance on their skates. A few trains were formed & a couple of skaters took a tumble. People were so nice helping others up & some were practicing & teaching in the middle of the floor. The music being played ranged from old school, new school & I think EDM. Lights went on & off, the a/c was pumping (Hallelujah!). I took a few time outs, because it's definitely a workout. Their food is decent. I had a hotdog & curly fries to keep me going. I may just do a whole pizza next time. All in all, this is a nice place to skate. Because I arrived early, I got to see the floor cleaned & refreshed after the last skating session. To me, the floor was smooth, I didn't feel any dips or bumps. The rental skates aren't the best so bring your own. I'm grateful for the ladies & gentleman behind the counter being patient with me, while I figured out the best fit. I'm also grateful they let you switch & without additional fees. Each time I changed, they would immediately spray the disinfectant. I plan on purchasing some blades of my own & making this a frequent occurrence. It was also nice to see that no one bothers your belongings. I believe the lockers are only..50¢ but I'd rather have things readily available. I've also learned to dress light, bring plenty of water, a hand towel, a phone holder & maybe bring extra deodorant. I am so happy that there are still roller rinks around nowadays. I hadn't been roller skating in over 15 years and was invited by a friend. Bring your own skates. The skates they have available are plentiful, but very old and cringeworthy. I signed up for the roller aerobics class on a Monday night. The instructor had some great activities assigned and it helped my rusty self get acclimated to the skates. I wouldn't recommend the class if you're a newbie tho. I definitely felt like a fish out of water and the class is not meant for teaching basic skills. But by the end of the class, I felt more more confident and got my obligatory fall out of the way! Staff is very nice and helpful. Cost to skate on Monday night is $8; lockers are 50 cents and a good size to store your coat and street shoes. Music was a mix of 70s - today, but mostly disco. The fellow skaters were super friendly and the rink looks well kept, which creates an enjoyable experience. read more

This rink is great! The experience is awesome too considering it's one of the only ones left in CT. Aside from the sketchballs area & building, once you get inside it's good! For the most part everything is clean besides the bathrooms, they're a bit outdated but clearly the building is old so that's to be expected. If you're super concerned about "social distancing" and covid regulations just avoid going at their busiest times. But if you're like me and don't care all that much, you have nothing go worry about! It wasn't too busy when I went on a Friday night. read more

Happy it's surviving the times. Great that there's an adult night, would love for more live music/djs and less restrictions put in place, also would be great to have more black management and more historical facts about the role and importance of roller skating in black culture. Skating floor is scuffed, scratched, bumpy, and has gum/lint all over. Rental skates are falling apart and have holes in them. Family days mean kids crossing every which way and running into people. Adult nights mean a club scene and live DJs with atrocious and offensive music. Food is overpriced and always cold. Woman's bathroom is disgusting! read more

If I could give this place half a star I would. I have been in over 20 roller rinks and this one was by far the worst. Very dirty!! They let other people skate with hoods on but i couldn't wear a hat. Also the manager was sitting outside the place smoking a cigarette while kids are trying to go in. You can't skate fast, you can skate backwards, not allowed to wear a hat. Most of all the workers are VERY RUDE!!!! If you want to go skating and have fun this isn't the place for you. This is a ratchet skating rink. I went on a Friday night and there were no rules. Children were skating across the circle, rolling from one side of the rink to the other, and standing on the rink floor while others were trying to skate. They need better referees because the ones that were there weren't enforcing the basic rules to protect everyone on the rink. I only gave it one star because I did see children having fun. Also, the skates were RAGGEDY!!! I have been in numerous roller rinks and these are by far the worst skates. I also think they should also invest in the triangle walkers to aid those learning to skate. read more

I love this place. I went as a kid for multiple birthday parties and recently I went back as an adult for Saturday night's Late Skate. They had a DJ playing a mix of funky 70's music and today's rap. There were a lot of children there, most of which were better at skating than me, and I quickly got used to them falling all over the place and it's kind of hilarious. The floor here is AMAZING. Literally a derby girls wet dream. The location is a little sketch but one you turn down the dark alley, go over the 50 potholes and turn right at the gate... this place shines through like a ray of sunshine after a storm. The CT rollergirls are so lucky to have such an awesome venue to skate in. (No offense Shriner's 143 lessthan3 1492.) I've only skated here once for a closed/private scrimmage so I don't know what their business is like normally but I would imagine this place is pretty hoppin' on a friday night. read more

My friends were scolded by the owner because of the color of their skin. Im disgusted. Minding our business when what's supposed to be the "owner" gets within 3 inches of my friends face saying we need to leave ? I approached her with respect just wondering what we did that we weren't aloud to come back . She kept yelling and talking over me. Exactly the kind of nostalgia I was looking for! Love the vibes of this place. I am literally terrible at skating and I felt okay practicing here. The only thing is that I came on "family skate night" and I would definitely NOT recommend going if you are new to skating. Kids are flying everywhere, crashing into each other, being crazy, and the staff on the skating floor does nothing to help with crowd control. But maybe if I were better at skating this would not be an issue. Anyway, will definitely visit again because it is cheap retro fun. read more

This place is terrible. If you are looking to come here during covid, don't! It was surely exceeding the 25% occupancy when I visited. Not only is this place not following covid guidelines, the manager continuously argued with my family about standing on the sides while there were countless skaters doing the same thing. The staff is terrible. I even caught one of the staff taking a picture of me and my family. Will NOT be returning. Absolutely terrible. read more

They charge parents that aren't even skating to enter. Nowhere to sit because people put their cups down and go away for hours at a time so we are paying full admission price to stand in one spot like an idiot. I could see if they charge $2 or $3 for admission for non skaters but this is ridiculous. Spent 67.50 for 2 people to skate. Definitely won't return back to this place. My response from them was "It's no different going to an amusement park. They charge alot more then we do for admission. We are a small business trying to keep the doors open." Seriously? Atleast an amusement park we can go in water or have a seat. I'm also pregnant why would they charge someone who can't even skate to go stand for hours. It should be more clear on their website that everyone pay's admission price even if you aren't skating. Anyone reading this would assume that it was admission to the skating rink. This place was horrendous, waste of my money and time. I was given 2 pairs of broken skates that were unusable. As I was skating the skate was shaking and could have potentially put me in danger. Great floor, great music selection. Super clean. Bathrooms are a tad outdated and gross looking, but that's expected. It was a bit hard to skate because a lot of children didn't know how to skate and would cut across the floor and go the opposite direction and wouldn't look where they're going. Again, expected. The skate guards don't really do their jobs and they just flirt with the girls there if you want me to be honest. But I've been to worse. If you want a child and drama free environment I suggest going on adult skate nights. You won't get any skating done if you go any other time. Otherwise, a great rink and the manager and staff (specifically excluding the skate guards) are extremely helpful and welcoming. read more

We just had a birthday party there. It was TERRIBLE! It's literally a "FREE FOR ALL". When you walk in- there is a wait at the check in table where you tell the person at the makeshift check in table that you are with so and so's party. They then ask you if you would like pizza or a hotdog, give you a bracelet and a ticket. Tell you what tables are yours and that's it. Okay, so, what's next? You'd think they'd tell you that, huh? No because the lines are so long for people trying to get in. Here's a clue....add more people to the front where you check in! Obviously, you would expect them to give you a rundown of what the bracelet and ticket meant... and where to get your skates, when to start skating and so on. Apparently, NOT! I can't believe how unprofessional these people were at a children's birthday party. They have no clue on how to run a birthday party event. The staff is clearly overworked for pennies on the $ I'm sure. The manager is useless as can be. She explained to me that the owner could care less (well that's just wonderful). I would NEVER step foot there again, nor would anyone in my party. I heard other parents complain as well regarding their birthday parties. The manager also indicated that it was a slow party day-I can only imagine what terrible service guests get if it was a busy day! They should be ashamed of how they treat their customers that have parties there. They haven't a clue on customer service. If they continue to offer birthday parties they all need to be retrained as well as the manager. They need to learn how to accommodate guests and actually give them a run down on how to have a birthday party! The sad thing is that there's really only a handful of roller skating rinks around. We drove 35 minutes to have this party there. What a shame. If you are planning on having a party there I would highly recommend you look elsewhere. I read several reviews and so many of them were bad but I like to try things for myself. Lesson learned! Save yourself the hassle and aggravation. read more

They have a rule about no hats and we nicely asked if one of the people in our party could continue to wear his because of issues related to anxiety and OCD. The staff rudely denied our request and he was asked to leave the skating rink. After reading some of the other reviews it seems as if this issue has been presented from a religious standpoint where someone was asked to remove their head covering. I went to roller magic today, on Marin Luther King Jr day, because it was my last day of college break. I should have known that it would be PACKED with kids who also had the day off. I was practically tripping over children the entire time I was there. But despite this, the facility was clean, the staff was helpful and friendly, and over all this is the best roller skating rink i've been to in CT. Its nice and big, though the music is a bit loud sometimes, the lights are nice, and there is lots of seating. My sole complaint, is that I was with my friends, and we left to go pick up our other friend. We couldn't have been gone more than a half hour. We left 2 sweatshirts and a water bottle on the table we had been sitting at all day. Skating is exhausting, so we took breaks frequently. When we got back, two men were sitting at the table, and all of our belongings had been thrown on the floor next to a garbage can. This obviously is not the fault of Roller Magic, i just found it unbelievably rude of them. Overall, it was a good trip and I genuinely enjoyed being at Roller magic. read more

Being a talented skater, someone who travels to different rinks, a skate guard for another roller rink and a guest at this roller rink and to the state of Connecticut, I found that the energy ran high through the place. The skate floor was very well maintained, smooth ride all the way around. Pricing for the food and drinks were a little high- but I didn't really try any of their food so can't give my two sense there. Looking around at the rental skates (didn't have rentals, as i have my own), they look well kept and maintained well, however some of their brakes on both their quads and blades should be changed as I saw multiple with worn down brakes. However, the reason why I give this place a rate of 2 is because of their rules, the skate guards and management. From what I hear, the rules vary from session to session. Not allowing any backwards skating, sideline skating, or tricks I get could be a potential safety hazard (Sideline skating however could be debatable as you are still looking forward skating). Also, no hats, hoodies or any baggage was not allowed. I understand why no bags, but hoodies or hats threw me into a loop. The lack of enforcing rules was also a huge concern that I saw, and found unfair. I saw at least 5 skate guards throughout the day, as they were always rotating on the floor and such. But when skate guards themselves are not following these rules, doing tricks, one having his hoodie on himself for about about hour 1/2-2 hours is unacceptable. I saw no skate guard stop to help kids up as they fell, or enforce any other rules, rather they skated by them, sometimes doing tricks. I also found that the major use of cell phones was also a huge concern, as everyone on the floor was making calls, texting and taking pictures while on skates, which causes equal or more concern and safety hazards just as any other rule that was not enforced. There is a DJ booth there, and the DJ and management were the only ones enforcing rules. It seemed almost as the skate guards were there just for liability reasons, incase the place got sued. Being I went with a group of friends, as I never got pulled off the rink, but others did for doing tricks or breaking rules, I find it interesting that other people such as one of the older guys who did tricks never got told once by management to leave the floor, as if they were targeting our group. At the end when we left, as i was still gathering my belongings, the older lady with long grey hair, kinda skinny looked back and waved bye bye in a rudely way with the skate guard. I went up to her after and told her "I'm sorry that others could not follow the rules, but I do not appreciate the fact you were rude and disrespectful to my group, and that you feel the need to show inappropriate gestures to customers who came to visit your rink from an hour 1/2 away, have a nice day." Will not go back to this rink anytime too soon, Hopefully I would like to see management become a little bit more respectful, and skate guards actually doing the job as a skate guard, setting the example for other individuals. Drove two hours to only skate for 45 mins (5:45-6:30) because the whole entire building shuts down for an hour. No where on the website does it say That everyone has to leave the entire building And you have to REPAY to get back in at 7:30. We had no idea because it was our first time there. No one at the front desk mentioned that we would have to leave and repay or else we would've left and waited. The manager said they "warn people" starting at 6pm. Completely ridiculous and rude front desk staff. Not to mention the place was dirty, smelled, and the food was gross. Don't waste your time here. read more
