The crab was mild, the redfish was cooked perfect with a thin line of crisp edges. The risotto was very thick, the consistency of stiff mashed potatoes. Our server was polite and knowledgeable. What we didn't think about was it being a weekday and closing times, we just goofed! So anyway once we realized the restaurant closed at 8:00pm according to Google we got a little worried, being that I work in a restaurant I know how overwhelming it can be to see customers coming in less than an hour until close, fortunately my hubs double checked here on Yelp and then their website and found the closing time was 8:30pm, so we hopped in the car and got there as soon as we could, and we were relieved to see a few people still eating, and another arriving just after we pulled in. There was a little curfuffle once we were sat, the hostess initially offered us a table with bench seating, but one of us isn't able to sit on a bench due to disability, she kindly offered us a table with chairs, in what appeared to be a different servers section, we were close to the TV on the same wall as the front counter, anyway, after sitting a few minutes Johnathan greeted us and took our drink orders to get us started. The ambiance is so relaxed, there was trivia on a couple of the TV's good music, and lots of cool merch to buy, some of the shirts really made me laugh. We quickly made our selections, hubs got the one meat and two sides and opted for the pork ribs, they were cooked to perfection, and he was delighted considering that we were there the last hour of the day, he really enjoyed his meal, I too opted for the one meat and two sides, selecting the regular sausage, and it was delicious. The highlight was Johnathan, he was friendly, made recommendations, and offered dessert, which we couldn't resist, deciding on the German Chocolate cake, with a side of ice cream. We had to take that to go, we couldn't eat another bite. They have two choices for BBQ sauce, hubs got spicy, and I got regular, and I am glad cuz I'm a yellow bellied tender foot, I tasted the spicy and it IS spicy so for all of you that enjoy the heat, I think you will like their, tomato forward sauce. I usually like to dip each bite of my sausage in BBQ sauce, this particular flavor was just different, I think I will have to try it again, it wasn't typical Texas-esque smoky BBQ sauce, more like ketchup as the base and then flavors and spices added to make it their own, we did find it slightly odd that BBQ sauce doesn't automatically come with the meals, we had to ask for it, but one of the things I REALLY like about MacDaddy's layout is it's a TRUE sit down restaurant with servers vs going thru a cafeteria style line to get our food, ironically as we drove down and talked about wanting to find a BBQ spot, and in that conversation I mentioned that I'd love to find one that's not self serve, being that one of us is disabled it can add a lot of extra work for the other, we come down twice a year if possible and have been doing so for at least 10 years, and had never found a dedicated BBQ place, we have now, the food was good, the service was friendly and the vibe was casual and relaxing, we will definitely be back!

The old one, with its stairs winding around the edge of the dome, felt a bit like a firetrap. The food here is wonderful. I have never been disappointed. This time, they had a special with red fish topped with tomatoes, shrimp, mushrooms, and a delicious "made to order" blue cheese sauce over angel hair pasta. It came with either a side salad or a bowl of gumbo. My son and I both opted for the special with the gumbo, although his fish was grilled, and mine was blackened. The gumbo was packed with strong flavors of sausage, ham, and shrimp. The seasoning was perfect. We both loved it. As for the redfish special... I want the recipe for that sauce! It was so so good. My son, who hates mushrooms, even ate the huge slices of portabella. I asked him why and he said, "The sauce makes them taste great!" We tried each other's fish and totally disagreed on which is best. But, as the more experienced eater, I think I won with the blackened. My wife had a grilled chicken sandwich. She does not like any seafood except canned tuna cooked into a casserole- not even a tuna sandwich. She said the fries and the bun were amazing. The chicken was a grilled chicken breast. Not much more you can say about that. Our table was on the outer edge by the windows. I got to watch the birds in a mini wetland during the meal. It was the perfect place for this old Texas Master Naturalist. We will eat here at least one more time with the whole family. It is quiet and not too crowded in the early afternoon, which is perfect for the baby.

Great choice- Huge menu. The Virginia Restaurant is never open, we lucked into this clean, friendly new favorite!

Our server was knowledgeable and friendly. We ordered a dozen blackjack oysters and they were amazing! Shucked perfectly and presented nicely. We shared the shrimp lovers platter and was highly disappointed. The grilled shrimp were not fresh - they tasted like they had been grilled an hour ago and kept under a warming light. The fried fish tasted the same way. My wife said the coconut shrimp were very good, though. We usually have much better luck here - I hope this was a one-off and not a downward trend.

AMAZING!!! AND LADIES... you SHOULDN'T be cooking every night at the beach!!! And who wants long waits in crowds for often sub-par food??? JUST BOOK IT YOU WILL LOVE IT! We had an amazing 4th of July week boil at sunset right up next to the waves. AMAZING, affordable (what you'd pay for a decent meal in a restaurant) fresh food boiled right on the beach (plentiful even with big eaters - enough that was packaged up for us as leftovers the next day), and crab legs much bigger and more delicious than I'd expected. All the extras needed, and dessert was yummy too. Cassie has perfected the key lime smore, and we loved the traditional option too. Chairs, tiki torches, fire... all included and ready for us. We had such a relaxing (you hear me ladies? RE-LAX-ING) evening as sat back and visited, and ending with dancing around the fire to Cassie and Shawn's amazing playlist. Just pick a genre (or change it up throughout the evening), give one of the crew a thumbs up or down periodically on the volume... SO accommodating. Very helpful and friendly staff who went above and beyond to accommodate our large party! I decided to do a beach bonfire and crab boil for my graduation and was not disappointed! I had family coming from out of town and Shawn and the staff with Rollin' Tide were so helpful with all of our requests and modifications as the day approached (i.e. adding people etc.). The guys who came for the set up were very friendly and everything was beautiful. The food was FANTASTIC and we really had an amazing evening. Can't say enough good things! We also had some weather concerns on the day of our event, and Shawn was in contact with me all morning to ensure that the condition of the beach would be adequate for our evening event- this was greatly appreciated as we were nervous when we saw rain the night before! Shawn creates an event your friends and family won't soon forget. The food at the boil was fantastic. In fact, while Shawn says you will usually have leftovers, the boil was so good we ate it all! We also got some tips on how to properly, and quickly, crack open crab legs and were pulling out finger sized pieces of sweet crab meat! Don't forget to try the key lime s'mores... what a treat. We had about 20 people in our party and everyone had a great time. ... And the rest of the story... due to unforeseen circumstances, the fire dancer scheduled for our dinner couldn't make it. Shawn called a couple days later and set up a special fire dancer show, his treat, just for our party on the beach... what a fun show that was, too! Shawn and Kassie provided a great experience for our group of about 20 school families over Mother's Day Weekend. They had separate bonfires setup for our group of 9th graders (also doubling as a birthday party for one of the kids in our group) and all the parents. I am a seafood snob and the shrimp boil was PERFECT!! Fresh, quality shrimp boiled to perfection with plenty of corn, potatoes, and sausage to go with it. The key lime pie was delicious. It was a great way to start off our weekend and I recommend to anyone visiting Port A. It was worth every penny to just show up, enjoy great food and conversation by the fire, and not have to clean!! We were coming in for the weekend to visit my kids and thought this would be a nice surprise dinner for them. We had an amazing time! Shawn was a big help in organizing the event and Kassie was a wonderful host. The set up on the beach made you feel like you were in your own private room. The food was cooked to perfection not to spicy for those who don't like spicy. For those who wanted more spice Shawn's seasoning did the trick. My husband loves seafood and can be a little critical and he enjoyed ever bit of it. The key lime smores were another great treat. When the meal was done they bagged up any left overs for us. The shrimp was outstanding!!!!! Loved the homemade seasoning you used!! The setting was perfect; the colorful Adirondack chairs, tiki torches and bonfire!! We booked Rollin' Tide Boil for 24 of us and it was amazing! The food was so great. Shrimp was not over cooked and the seasoning was just right. If you like a little spicier, they have the spice on the table! The bonfire, s'mores, fire dancer and excellent service was all so wonderful. So happy to see Port Aransas has something special like this to offer. It definitely went down in the books as one of the best nights we've ever had on the beach!! All I can say is WOW! What a great night for our family! ! All we had to do was walk 5 steps out from our condo and they were set up and ready to go! The food was amazing! If you like Crab I would definitely say go for it! And the special seasoning they put on everything was awesome! We had 3 kids with us and they loved it all too! The whole event was fantastic! The set up was beautiful and the food was delicious, corn and potatoes were perfectly cooked! Kassie was wonderful and so sweet and friendly. It was such a beautiful setting that my boyfriend proposed and Shawn came over from another boil down the beach to give his congratulations. Afterwards we had the Key Lime s'mores and my mother is from Key West and she said it was better than most Key Lime pies down in the islands. Overall, it was so much fun and very memorable! The beach bonfires, s'mores, and movie were a big hit for our entire party. We had 25 guests at our party that ranged from all ages. The owners of this company are great. Very flexible, friendly and helpful. Food was great and my family and I had a great time! We were booked for a bonfire at the beach but my nephew hurt his foot, so we had to move to the rental house we were staying at. It worked out great. It's sad to say, the highlight of our meal was the asparagus. We ordered two double house vodka and soda - they were $20 per drink! Our server was efficient and friendly, but he had no personality at all. The 1886 bar has a great bourbon selection. Madison was friendly and knowledgeable. Would definitely go back to the bar, but will not be going back to eat there.

It was busy and we did have to wait a bit for our food, but when you wait an extensive amount of time you expect the meal to be hot and fresh, but sadly this was not the case. I am not the one to ask for a free meal I just take it as a bad experience and move on. I did give the waitress my feedback and let her know about the disappointment. It would have been nice for the waitress to mention it to the manager and them come and address the issue. I was not looking to receive a discount but also was not looking to pay over $200 for cold food.

The restaurant itself is pretty dingy, it's basically a dive bar that serves food. Despite that it was filled with unattended children running wild which, of course, isn't really the restaurant's fault. You arrive and you wait in a haphazard line to order. There is ONE lady working behind the counter who is the cashier and the lone bartender and the barback running the dishwasher and everything else. It's beyond stupid - it basically makes those wanting food feel like second class customers whereas people drinking beers at the bar get all of the priority. If they had a dedicated cashier, they could run twice the volume. This isn't a cute peculiar island type thing - it's infuriating in its inefficiency. We arrived at 7:30 and waited just over 45 minutes to order, standing in an increasingly disgruntled line the whole time. There were probably 8 groups in front of us to order so that should give you an idea of how slow it was running. By the time we got to the front they were out of about half of the things on the menu despite advertising that they serve food later than anyone else on the island. I guess if you get there after 8 PM you just have to have what's left? We ordered the garlic fish, which we had heard was fantastic. It was fine, I guess, but absolutely not worth the hassle. Port Aransas is the kind of town where you can feel good about supporting local places that work hard to earn your business. This isn't one of them, everyone seemed kind of annoyed that people were there, especially the cashier person. You can do better by eating elsewhere, and should.
