We visit the Rockport/Port A area a few times a year. Mickey's is our favorite of all the restaurants in the area. We make a point to have at least one meal here each time we come. The food is very good, the waterfront ambiance is nice and the waitstaff are very friendly. I've never had a bad meal here. On our most recent visit I had a grouper special. Grouper was nicely seasoned, grilled and served with a yummy sauce. I think prices are reasonable for the coastal area. We would have paid double for that fish meal at Pappadeaux's back in Austin. My other favorite item to get is the sesame seared tuna appetizer. Very fresh and perfectly cooked. read more

We stopped in for dinner after a fishing tournament and really enjoyed the overall setting. The ambiance was relaxing and refreshing--right on the water, with a nice breeze and a beautiful view. We started with the fried mushrooms. They were just okay taste-wise, but the portion was generous for the price. I ordered the grouper sandwich, which was one of the specials of the day, and it was absolutely delicious--crispy, flavorful, and very filling. The bun was surprisingly good too, but the fish was so tasty on its own that I didn't even need it as a sandwich. My fiancé had the shrimp po'boy. He wasn't very impressed, but to be fair, he's from Louisiana and has high standards when it comes to seafood. The service was unfortunately a bit underwhelming, especially since it wasn't very busy. I had to go up to the bar just to get some water, and we ended up clearing our own table after the appetizers to make room for our meals. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!!! The food was a letdown from start to finish. My order arrived lukewarm, and it was clear it had been sitting out for a while--the texture was off and the flavors were bland, like no real care went into preparation. For the price, I expected something at least decent, but it felt more like reheated leftovers than a freshly made meal. Service didn't help the situation either. Staff seemed disinterested and slow to respond, and we had to ask multiple times just to get basic things like water refills. It gave the impression that customers were more of an inconvenience than the reason the place exists. To top it off, the atmosphere wasn't much better--tables weren't properly cleaned, and the overall space felt neglected. Well, this is a Locals point of view. We had some friends come in from Virginia. We wanted to take them to a Locals go. Excited because we figured there wouldn't be a bunch of tourists and food would be good. 3 burgers, one wanted well done, others wanted medium rare. ALL were well done hockey pucks. The food is not as good as it used to be. The grouper sandwich tasted like it was made from not fresh fish. The breading was good and our waiter was attentive and pleasant. The ambience was beautiful as usual. I believe they have chosen to use poor quality ingredients because of the debt from building onto the restaurant. Their flounder sandwich which was always excellent has been replaced by a farmed catfish from Vietnam so you can guess where there shrimp come from. First, you can improve customer service second you can make sure the shrimp has been divine third you don't ask a customer just throw their bottles in the trash I have gone to Mickey's many times and there's been two times where the service really sucked but in most cases has the best shrimp in the world, but not today we were there today. Recommended by hubby - he came here for a business lunch. Came on a Saturday evening around 6 p.m. Rustic feel, 2 level restaurant with a beautiful bay view. Nice welcomed breeze as it was an open restaurant We ordered the calamari for our appetizer. It was delicious! I would have preferred that it was fried for just a tad longer, but it was juicy and tender. I ordered the pecan crusted flounder with mashed potato and green beans. It came with a cream sauce. Although the fish was cooked perfectly, the pecan crust lacked flavor, I had to add a bit of salt. And unfortunately, the flour hadn't been cooked out of the sauce. The mashed potato and the beans, however, were cooked perfectly and tasted great. Overall, the food rated a 3.5/4 to me. My husband ordered the mahimahi special with the jalapeno creamed corn and hush ouppies. He rated his dish a 5. I did taste the mahimahi and the creamed corn and it was really good. Beware that corn has a heat bite! The Tequila Sunrise and Watermelon margaritas were perfectly delicious! We will be back. read more

We sat at a high top in the bar, after being told to sit wherever we wanted. Were promptly brought flatware and menus and told our waitress was coming. No one ever came to get drink order or bring water, 4 employees floating around, and not a single one asked to help. Went in for some late lunch Labor Day weekend after being on the water all morning. Pretty warm out so we were ready to hydrate and eat! Unfortunately, we were not given the best service. Each of us gulped down our drinks fairly quickly, but weren't able to get refills during our visit. Our food came out fairly quickly and was DELICIOUS. Our party had multiple fish sandwich plates, a shrimp taco, and a fried shrimp plate. I got the fried shrimp plate, which is arguably the best fried shrimp I've ever had. Giant specs of black pepper that were amazing! I got fries and the sautéed green beans as my side. Both were super yum! We asked for a couple of things from the food runners as we saw our waitress was very busy. He told us we would have to ask her for these items. We basically didn't see her until we finished our food and she had our check ready to go. Not sure if the food runner isn't allowed to help out due to policy or what, but it would've been nice for a little assistance for both the waitress and customers if they could've grabbed a couple of items for us. After a day of fishing we decided to try this place. If first impressions were it, we would have left. The young man taking names was either having a very bad day or he was overworked or undertrained but he was very clearly stressed and once our name was on the waitlist, he asked my name 4 more times and clearly 'lost' us on the waitlist. Fortunately, we got a table. Our waitress was very good - personable and appropriate level of checking on us. We started with deep fried calamari - it's always either rubbery or prepared well, so we had no expectations. When it came out, it was thicker than most I've ever seen and we were afraid it would be rubbery but we were pleasantly surprised - it was prepared very well - not rubbery at all and the breading was great. For my entree I had the shrimp platter. It came with about 10 very large sized shrimp and deep fried in a great batter. Very tasty! For sides I tried the hush puppies and jalapeño creamed corn. The hush puppies were perfect - crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. The jalapeño cream corn was perfect both on terms of flavor and texture. My buddies had the blackened fish sandwich; fried fish family; and grilled fish sandwich, respectively. They each said their sandwiches were prepared very well. I would definitely return!! read more

The food was really good we had the shrimp poboy but got it on the sourdough bun so delicious and that sauce they put on it makes it! The coleslaw is great too! The fish & shrimp tacos were the best we have had the cilantro cream sauce they add to them is epic! We also did the Calamari and not bad but thicker than we like. The fries are tasty too usually skip those. We did do lunch so not a full menu until after 5pm. When we pulled into the parking lot we almost changed our minds it smells of bait and looks more like a bait shop & boat dock (which it is too) than restaurant but upstairs was nice all open and great views! Great, new to us, option in Arkansas Pass. From Rockport, keep driving straight past the H‑E‑B and it's a couple more blocks before you turn left on E Ransom Road. Lots of outdoor seating, on two/three levels. We had fried fish and shrimp along with a blackened fish sandwich. Both were good and plentiful. The sandwich had two filets. Breading on the fish and shrimp were good and different from fish to shrimp. Fish was more cornmeal based. Perhaps our favorite was the jalapeño cream corn. Excellent. They have a full bar as well. This is in a marina so boating in is an option along with a private parking lot. Give them a try for something new and a little further than Paradise Key. read more

We thoroughly enjoyed our experience at this restaurant, especially the delicious fried seafood platter they served. The service was exceptional, with Angel, our server, being attentive throughout the meal. Unlike other waitresses, she consistently checked on us even after the food was delivered. The food runner efficiently delivered our appetizers and entrees without compromising their temperature. Sitting upstairs with a marvelous view of the Marina made the experience even more delightful. Speaking of food, the half order of loaded fries with thick chop bacon, pickled jalapeños, and cheddar cheese broiled on top was a tasty treat. The fries alone were fantastic, reminiscent of Wingstop's fries. The Fried Fish, Shrimp, and Oyster platter with two side choices for $34 was a great value. The dishes were not greasy, soggy, or fishy tasting, and the Oysters were perfectly cooked. The burgers served at other tables looked appealing as well. However, The coleslaw was disappointingly dry and lacked any discernible flavor. Avoid it. This place didn't feel like a tourist trap, with a mix of families and local groups enjoying their time without rowdiness. Their is ample amount if signage for handwashing in the women's bathroom they had 4 posted and 3 more outside in eye shot of our table. Overall highly recommend this spot. Bring cash they charge a transaction fee uf you use a card. I deducted one star from my review due to the unsatisfying coleslaw and the inconvenience of being charged for not using cash. Seafood a notch above the competition in terms of quality, at a slightly premium price. Of course, the view of the marina it's located on helps justify the slight uptick in price. A shrimp po' boy, bowl of gumbo, a couple bottles of beer, and glass of sweet tea rang in a hair over $50 after tax. So not what I would consider cheap eats, but it was tasty fare. Shrimp po'boy had half a dozen decent sized butterflied shrimp well battered in tasty breading and nicely fried. Vegetation on the hoagie roll was acceptably fresh & crisp. Roll itself was typical, which is to say toothy & sturdy enough to corral the mondo load it was carrying. Portion, with attendant fries, was plenty big enough to make for a hefty lunch. Fries had a goodly dusting of salt and, especially, black pepper. While slightly below piping hot & not oily, they lacked a crispy crusty exterior indicating a slightly under temp fryer in the kitchen. Not bad, but not spectacular either. 3.5 stars Mickey's is one of those places that you expected great things from the more times you go, but the second time was t the charm this time. Boo. We came on Tuesday. I had looked at reviews and Mickey's was my top choice (this was also confirmed by hotel staff). I liked the open air seating with the sea breezes and good views. I got the shrimp po'boy for $17.95 (prices have gone up due to covid, short staffing but you would think that seafood would be cheaper close to the water- mine came with 5 jumbo shrimp) and my dad the shrimp, oyster, and fish platter for $24.95 (our bill came out close to $52 with a Lonestar beer, but you get what you pay for). . His plate also came with coleslaw, beans, hush puppies, and fries. My fries were full length, his the nibs, mine lacking any sort of salt. The oysters were out of this world. We opted out of dessert (key lime pie or strawberry cheesecake) this time. We came back tonight, and it was sort of lacking... Our young waitress, while friendly initially, had too much going on and rarely checked on us. I got the oyster po'boy (17.95). The oysters (7 pieces) were good, but not as good the other night. My dad got the seafood gumbo bowl for $14.95. He needed some hot sauce to spice up the flavor. The bowl was a lot smaller and more expensive than a known seafood chain restaurant, no bread, and crackers only. It had 3 pieces of shrimp and we identifiable ball of maybe fish. My me favorite place on the coast. We've been to all the old places but found this gem today. I'm a gumbo snob but my wife said to try it. I was blown away. If I could rate lower I would. If you're looking for the seafood experience this is not the place to go. It's appealing to the eye, but the food will make you wish you went to long John silvers. Flounder(catch of the day) tasted like scrambled eggs. Fries tasted like yesterday. Jalapeno corn was great!! Service was horrible. Bar was horrible, unless you like hot liquor. Save your money, spend your time and go to port A for dinner - or ANYWHERE else. 2 hours and $90 dollars was the ticket for 2. Again, don't waste your time. I am a local and have been going to Mickey's often for the last few years. there had been a notable decline in the food quality the last few times I went. Tonight, I took my daughter and grandson there and it was the worst $60 I have spent. I had fried fish and the fish was so dry and the seasonings overpowered the fish. the breading was like they had attempted to use cornmeal but didn't have enough so they threw it in some flour. It was bad! my grandson did not touch his fish and that toddler eats everything. The drinks tasted off, almost like there was something moldy in the ice. The service was great! The server went out of her way to make sure we were comfortable and attended too. The ambiance was great. the view was fantastic! It is worth mentioned, we were the only people in the restaurant for a while. a little later a couple joined but that was it! For a once booming place to be like this speaks volumes. (Sunday, 5/25/25) After receiving our meal, the server informed us that they had no silverware for us to use for our meal. They served warm beer and the soda was undrinkable. There is nothing like enjoying great food surrounded by a wonderful staff! Mickey's Bar & Grill did just that. I had the best fried flounder I've eaten in a long while. The shrimp and oysters were also very tasty. Lightly fried without a heavy batter. The seafood wasn't overly salted or greasy! Need I say more? Well, here's a bit more. The fries and onion rings are fresh cut in house! Yummy! The flounder was so good ( lightly battered and not greasy) that I requested a couple of slices of bread to build a sandwich with their in house tartar and red sauce. Yummy! Now, to the service. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming! Torri was so sweet and friendly! She gave us wonderful guidance on choosing the entrees that suited our pallets.
