What a great city getaway! We stayed in June of 2020 to escape the drama of the world...and what a good decision it was! The tiny homes were very comfortable. Basic, but comfy. And that fireplace...it can heat the place up let me tell you! Our lovely patio looked onto the meadow where we were greeted by a deer every morning. There's lots of exploring to be done, if you go down by the huts, there's a trail to the river and lots of little paths to venture down. We were one of two families staying at first, so WIFI in cabin 6 worked just fine. When we left (on a Wednesday) lots of people were arriving. Each cabin had a porta-potty, but the bathroom was close enough that we just used that. The bathrooms were spotless and cleaned daily. My one complaint is that the pizza place opened at 2 and closed at 8 (so no coffee/espresso) and it was only a couple days a week. But that's a great way to explore Mazama and Winthop. And, if there was an emergency, no one was onsite. Pretty sure there was a bear on the premises one night, as the "bear-proof" trash area and dumpsters got ransacked, so come prepared, especially if you're camping. Will we come again? YES. Loved this spot, the quiet, the "just enough" roughing it. Safe, clean and fun! read more

BEWARE! No indoor water - No indoor bathroom (only detached outhouse). Real bathroom is a walk to another building and shared space. Both showers broken. Couldn't get wifi to work at all. Thin mattress ontop of plywood - no real bed. It's WAY overpriced for camping in a metal drafty box with a noisy space heater and no seating except box wood bench. While set back from road all you hear is the highway noise. It's not glamping (luxury camping). I wanted out of my reservation - owner refused. Yikes never again. I felt totally scammed. read more

Beautiful area! The tents were nice with two comfortable sleeping cots, the bathrooms closets to the tents don't have a roof but running water for toilets and showers! It was neat to use the restroom under the night sky, I think it'd be not as neat when it was raining or snowing. The electrify for the tent are outside of the tent so bring an extension chord! We never found the indoor barn bathrooms but we didn't look that hard! Good experience and I'd love to go back with the rest of my family. read more

We spent the weekend here! It was very quiet and relaxing. The bed platforms were a little uncomfortable but the overall experience was outstanding and definitely a fun memory. We will surely be returning but bringing our own mattress pad and better bedding for a more comfortable stay. The restaurant on site was fabulous as well but was closed most of our stay. We even brought our 2.5 year old daughter and she can't stop talking about her "hut." read more

This place is so relaxing. The platforms are very comfortable, clean and warm bathrooms.The shower was cleaner than we expected. There is WIFI when you get close to the restaurant and office. Otherwise expect to disconnect, because once you are in your hut, there is no phone signal. No biggie!! My wife, dogs and I had a wonderful experience.There are beautiful dog friendly trails with great views. If you are looking to get out of the city and explore Washington state this is the place to go. I brought my movie projector and cozied up next to the chimney. read more

I stayed here in June of 2018 and it was amazing! We just needed a campground and everything was full up, so we drove outside of North Cascades and wound up here - staying in a safari tent on cots. It wasn't as cheap as a tent campground, but it was a great experience. Pizza and pinot grigio and a glampgroud was pretty great. There was this girl working there of Latina descent and she was so friendly! She made sure we had everything, gave us bug spray, and she honestly was one of the best customer service providers I've ever encountered. I mean, she checked us in, showed us to our tent, and later in the evening, she was working in the restaurant! I was like "Gosh! What does this girl not do??" I hope she gets a raise and is well-compensated. I wish I knew her name, but she made our experience unforgettable. The only con was the mosquitos down by the tents. read more

Great experience! Don't come expecting a plush stay, its essentially a step up from camping but in a really cool structure. Bed was comfy, and fireplace was awesome for heating and ambiance. WiFi is really Only accessible when you are on foot near the office building, but was refreshing to disconnect for a weekend. Close to Winthrop and Mazama, great places to visit. Bring food for the grill, but grill could use some repairing. Bathroom building was a short walk but very clean and warm. We will be back! read more

They've just hit the cover of Sunset magazine so reservations may be hard to come by, but it will be so worth it. We headed over the mountains for a three-day weekend in September, and our stay could not have been more perfect. The larches were bright yellow, and they were stunning against the crisp blue sky. But you really want to hear about the huts don't you? They are so freaking cool! We didn't get an exact measurements but I'm sure you could find it online. We were guessing 15 x 24'? It's kinda like IKEA and a Conex box had a super cool baby. Design-wise, they are are perfection. Realistically, ours was full of flies, and I was none too thrilled to head outside to our personal Porta-potty in the middle of the chilly night. I had a major Blair Witch moment which heavily influenced my beverage intake the next night. But these were minor inconveniences considering we were out in the wilderness. The restaurant, Wesola Polona, is fabulous. Great outdoor dining and totally dog friendly. Seriously, we could have lived here forever. Small but perfect. (I gotta dock one star for no running water in the units, right? I guess that's what makes it camping.) read more

I'll admit, I'm most Washingtonian's nightmare. I don't bike. I don't like camping. Birkenstocks will never find their way into my closet. Northface jackets are only acceptable when huddling inside during the winter and snowboarding is something I won't get involved in again, probably ever. One thing I know I can agree on with any Washingtonian (anyone, in general) is that The Rolling Huts are an amazing place to "camp". Minimalistic, beautiful, comfortable, and clean. Close to great hiking (okay, that I will do!), quaint little towns, gorgeous rivers, and outdoor activities makes it perfect for anyone looking for adventure but the shared grill and gorgeous surroundings make it a great place to kick back and relax for a weekend. Dixie was the great caretaker and owner (?) of the huts and she took care of us well. I'll definitely be planning a return trip soon. read more

As stated, it is camping, albeit glamour camping. I recommend it, especially if you are the rough and tough it camping type. Would I stay there again...probably not, but that is because I like convenience. Space is at a premium, which is code for the walls were slowly closing in on me...it was just me and girlfriend and we kept dog tied up on deck, which does offer ample space. We did two nights, which was about right. 10 miles into town and otherwise, nothing around. Keep in mind, we went the last two nights of September so the place was empty and the showers were always available. You do have to walk to the showers and bathroom. I refused to use the portable adjacent to the dwelling. Things to bring: soap, shower shoes, coffee/tea, groceries for small fridge, comforter for what is a comfortable bed, reading materials (no TV), can opener if you buy any canned goods; I also brought air popper and popcorn. Things to do: walk along Methow Community Trail two hours to and from Mazama Store and buy Lariat (Cowboy Mud) coffee, which they will grind for you (4 hours total); go mountain biking up at Sun Mountain; eat/drink at Old Schoolhouse Brewery and Rocking Horse Great fireplace and they provide all the necessary wood; you will need paper, but you can use paper towels in a pinch, which they provide. read more

Buyer beware - We booked a weekend getaway at Rolling Huts but due to extreme weather conditions in the Puget Sound, were unable to make it. The greater Seattle area received a record amount of snow and several roads near our home were closed to traffic making it nearly impossible for us to travel 5 miles let alone all the way to Winthrop - even with a 4WD SUV. Rolling Huts will only refund your stay if both passes are closed for at least 8 hours which they will freely tell you but I find it very disappointing that they did not find this to be an exception worthy case. If you do decide to book a winter stay, Rolling Huts expects you to risk life and limb to make it there. read more

This place is my vacation crack. I've lived in Washington for 9 years and had never been to the North Cascades area. Whoa, mistake! It is insanely beautiful! We even got to drive through a really mild snow storm on the way. I first read about the Huts in Sunset Magazine. Then I bought my husband a book which included a piece on the Delta Shelter (a home by the same architect, on the same grounds as the Huts). Then my husband became an architecture major and saw Tom Kundig (the architect) give a talk at UW. Needless to say, the Huts have been on our radar for a while. We used our 5 year anniversary as an excuse to finally go. I don't think this type of lodging is for everyone, but I really loved it. It's like fancy camping. There are basically two spaces, the kitchen/living room and the bedroom. The only thing to sit on are wooden blocks that also double as a bed if you put them together. They're a bit uncomfortable, but we just used the extra sleep pads and it wasn't too bad. Bringing a camping chair might not be a bad idea. The kitchen has a mini-fridge, microwave, small coffee pot, electric kettle, cutlery and plates/bowls/mugs. Each hut also has a spigot outside with running water. The bed is a memory foam pad on a platform (BYOSleeping bags) and I thought it was pretty comfortable. There is electric heat, a portable oil heater and a fireplace in the living room. We didn't use the oil heater, but the other two methods definitely heat the place up quickly. Bathrooms and showers are in a barn a short walk from the Huts. Obviously, there are no shortage of outdoor activities in this area. We wanted to hike. It turns out there is a community trail that runs right in front of the Huts. At first I was a little nervous because trail ran parallel with the highway for a while. Don't worry, it soon turns off into the woods. We got the full scope of fall colors and some other awesome scenery. Be sure to go all the way to the suspension bridge! I thought this was a great getaway from city life and it is sooo beautiful! I stopped for lunch here on a long drive and it was the best, most wholesome and delicious road food I could have hoped for! Their cafe has a dog-friendly outdoor seating area (with service), a diverse menu, and a food sensibility I equate more with progressive city centers. The staff is international and the space has a clean, cozy, welcoming feel. It is way cleverly-designed. Way. I can't wait to plan an overnight stay. read more

The Rolling Huts website promotes itself as being in the middle of nowhere but you roll up and its right on the main road. The six huts are too close together and they face a big grassy area and a main house - still not sure who that belongs to. When we arrived there was a big party in the main house and it felt like we were crashing it. So odd. But the huts are cool, the cafe is wonderful and the Methow River is just a walk away. read more

This review is limited to the Rolling Huts- in the summer season. This lodging facility is weird, off-the-charts. I've travelled extensively and never stayed in a "Rolling Hut" and don't plan to again. I'm a camper and used to roughing it but found the Huts unduly expensive, considering it is camping, purely, comparable to staying in any sort of "hut" except for the wheels and the architecture. There are no services, no staff, no food, no amenities, no river access, no pool, and nothing whatsoever to do on-site. No horseshoes, no volleyball net, no fire pit, ...zero. Everyone seemed to be heading out to mountain bike but you have to drive 10 or so miles to town to rent bikes- the Huts are located that far from any commercial activity. Since my fellow travelers weren't bikers, we went hiking. In fairness, Rolling Huts look like more fun in the winter season when this part of the state is a cross-country/showshoe dreamland. Read the Huts' published description carefully- there is a kitchenette but no sink or running water. The beds are about 6'-0" long. I found the bedding nasty, the mattresses and pillows painful, and the furnishings uncomfortable in day-to-day use. The Huts are very close together also which makes them needlessly noisy. Do NOT attempt to cram more than 2 people into a Hut, they're tiny. The community showers are OK but have just 2 stalls each for the entire place. On the whole, that list of problems seems inexcusable. The 98-degree blistering heat, choking smoke clouds from nearby forest fires, and bugs might have been part and parcel of any camping but I had hoped for a more pleasant stay. The absence of air conditioning, dust, and tedium exacerbated every little problem, totally unsuitable for summer. read more

We had a great experience at the Rolling Huts for a quick 2 night stay. We found the hut clean and comfortable. Plenty of firewood to keep the hut nice and toasty all night and even though there was a pit toilet outside the hut, I opted to take the 2 minute stroll to the super warm and clean shared bathroom. The whole property was pretty quiet and it felt private and isolated, in a good way. We were there for a short cross-country ski trip and were excited to be able to strap on our skis and get right on the Methow Valley Community Trail just outside the cabins. My husband, 10 month daughter and myself recently stayed at the rolling huts. The huts are are definitely like camping in that you have to go to a common bathroom and use an outhouse. My biggest issue was the lack of blinds which made it very difficult for my daughter to nap to go to sleep before 10pm (her usual bedtime is 7) which made for a really cranky baby. Also the huts get really hot! They are metal with large windows and poor ventilation. Given that they cost about the same as staying in one of the nice hotels in the area like the sun mountain lodge...I won't be returning. Also my hut had a wasp problem. There were so many flying around I didn't feel comfortable using the porch. They also kept finding their way inside the hut so we kept killing them...I think if we weren't traveling with our daughter it would have been a lot better but again not worth the price. read more

I just spent 2 nights at the tents, which were just fine, spacious . My only complaint is the restroom/shower facility. The shower part has a roof over it but lacks any privacy. The 2 toilet stalls and sinks are completely open air; have to wipe the rain off the seat each morning, cold and wet. Lack of a roof makes the floors all wet too if it's been raining. In other campgrounds I've had better facilities for a lot less money. While I still enjoyed my stay, I won't be back because of the crappy facilities. read more

Um...photos on website make this look like a very luxe cabin...we arrived to find five Wasps in the cabin...and ten horseflies...when we climbed up on the benches, we could see that there are large gaps between the upper glass and the metal frame, not sealed with caulking...? There is also a very loud, restaurant kitchen fan instead of a screened in window in the ack to provide cross- vent...cheap and stupid. The floor was not clean...it is dirty linoleum...dead bugs on the mattress...We spent one hour killing insects before we could move in. Nice. Sorry, but this is NOT well designed and poorly constructed...and poorly managed...who the hell doesn't check a unit for insects prior to letting someone check in. the owners clearly hadn't been in the cabin for days and days... read more

The Rolling Huts is a great place to stay. We stayed in one of the "rolling huts" (as opposed to the tents). Be sure to read over their website for all the basic info about the facilities. Common bathrooms (in barn a very short walk) had several shower stalls and flushing toilets. The shower stalls were not quite what I was expecting. They were stained, leaked water onto the floor, and just felt dirty. All in all keep in mind this place is like camping but with a shelter. So bringing bedding, coolers, dishes, stove, etc is required. Water faucets outside each hut is very nice for cleaning dishes and etc. A cozy little getaway with only the very basic needs provided. Pretty cool idea, but poor execution. Bed was uncomfortable, and for what you pay, you should at least have water in the unit. If I wanted to camp, I wouldn't pay this much. Lots of highway noise, little privacy, no trees, and the hut felt like a tinderbox that would go up in flames at the merest hint of a candle. No, not for me. Stayed 2 nights here, was so relaxing. The tents are really cool, and definately worth the price. However, I upgraded to the hut which was really worth it. Endless wood, the wood stove heats the hut up SUPER well. It's very remote and there is a trail to the river. There was a super full moon on the last night, and then the entire valley came to life with coyotes howling at the full moon. Also, they have grills, a gas and some charcoal ones. Propane was provided. Definately recommend this place and plan on staying again! read more

It is so peaceful up there. My daily life is so crazy, coming up there was so wonderful. It's beautiful. It's definitely glamping if you stay in the huts like I did which was very nice for a get away for but husband and I. But then the tent are a little more traditional camping if that's what your looking for. There is so much to do up there. Recently stayed in one of the huts for 2 nights. We were super excited as we love the design and style. We were however very disappointed with our stay. Upon our arrival the hut wasn't very clean. There were dust bunnies the size of kittens under the sleeping area, an Advil on the floor, and dirty floors in the living area. We were there with our 14 mo old baby so we weren't very happy with the level of cleanliness. There are fans in the huts to help pull air in and cool the place. Ours was seized and didn't work. Of course no one was on site during our stay from maintenance or management. There was over grown grass surrounding the hut, the mosquitos were horrible probably from the overgrown grass, we couldn't even sit out on the deck without being eaten alive. In fact the first night we didn't get much sleep as we were continually awakened by the buzzing and zinging of them in our ears. The smoke detector had a piece of tape over it and no battery. Not really a great idea seeing as Winthrop is high desert and at risk of forest fires. There were picnic tables at each hut but so overgrown we couldn't use it. It was really sad as we were so excited to stay there. It seems the huts were well publicized and marketed yet now are poorly kept. read more
