Ok so there are pros and cons to this inn. As an inn near a national park, I honestly wasn't expecting much. I do expect more of a no-frills experience with spots near national parks. However, this definitely would not be a location I would stay again at. The Pros: The location is gorgeous, there is no doubt about that. The North Cascades is amazing and the Freestone Inn is wonderfully placed near several hikes. It honestly took our breath away coming up to the cabin. The price wasn't terrible for an inn near a national park during larch season as well. We paid about 500 dollars for two nights. The bed was very comfortable and the room (minus a few cobwebs) was for the most part clean. There is a restaurant walking distance from the inn as well. The Cons: The hospitality service is very lacking here. When I asked about room turnover, they said that if we want towels replaced and trash taken out, we would have to put it outside our room. Again, I was expecting no frills but this was a bit surprising. Even more surprising is that when we did receive a replacement of towels they were set on the bath in a giant stack, and not hung up. Also, there was a puddle of water in a tray in our fridge I assume was for the ice? It was definitely broken. Overall, it did the job, but have no interest in coming back. read more

I recently stayed at the Freestone Inn and, unfortunately, my experience was far from what I expected. Upon arriving at our cabin, we were taken aback by its cleanliness--it was dirty and not well-maintained. It's disheartening to pay for accommodation and find such a lack of attention to detail. Additionally, the customer service we encountered was disappointing. The employees were rude and unhelpful, which only added to our frustration. We also faced an unexpected "excessive cleaning fee" that was charged to us without any prior notification, we only were aware of this as we noticed an additional charge on our bank statement and had to contact the freestone for an explanation and request a checkout bill. This lack of transparency is unacceptable and left us feeling taken advantage of. Overall, I cannot recommend the Freestone Inn based on my experience. It's unfortunate, as we had high hopes for a lovely stay, but the dirty cabin and terrible customer service overshadowed our stay. read more

Loved the Firestone Inn! We were picking up our son after finishing his PCT hike. Perfectly situated in Mazama, the Freestone Inn offer 4 star accommodation in the woods! Who could ask for more? Loved the grounds and the proximity to the pond. The comp breakfast is perfect, We had dinner in the hotel restaurant, which is usually a no no for me, but it was great! I had the burger and my wife had the salmon. All perfect to order. The room as very nice and clean with great views of the lake. Beautiful! read more

I love Freestone Inn. I have stayed here so many times over 20 years. The property is always a 5 star but...the experience part (eg breakfast, overall service) is of a budget motel. I hope I don't get anyone in trouble, but yep, we were pretty surprised by that part. The staff seemed pretty dispirited and seemed to have low morale. But usually it comes from owners. Not from the staff themselves. Anyway, the 'breakfast' was a bagged breakfast of snacks that were full of cheap fillers ( see photo of 'breakfast'). The only real food included 2 hard boiled eggs, an apple, and carrots. I'd include the yogurt amongst real food but unfortunately the ones they included were full of sugar and artificial flavors and colors. We were really taken aback, no, we were upset. There is no place to get breakfast around Freestone Inn so we were really relying on an actual breakfast. We had to modify our first day to go find a place for a meal, as we had expected a meal not snacks. There's a way to do a bagged breakfast that is better. Start with higher quality ingredients and real food. You could even ask each guest what they would like in their breakfast bag. read more

I dont know where to begin! My husband and I wanted to get married in the mountains with some snow and have a small wedding with just close family and friends. My photographer suggested North Cascades NP for the ceremony so I searched for a cute place to stay and have the reception! Freestone Inn popped up and it couldn't have been more perfect! Jaime was my event coordinator and was extremely helpful with helping us plan our destination wedding! Living in Arizona and never seeing the venue in person was a little nerve-wracking but Jaime answered all my questions and calmed me down! We had the wedding of our dreams thanks to Jaime and her staff. They worked around the clock to make sure we had an amazing brunch for our wedding and the staff made my dream cake. A waffle cake! We stayed there for a few days and it was amazing. It was the most picturesque 'Winter Wonderland' lodge one could imagine. The entire property was beautiful. The decor had character without being unusual or weird. The rooms were spacious - each with a deck, large TV, large bed, large fireplace, soaking tub, and large bathroom. The deck had an amazing view of the lake. You could also open the blinds to watch the sun rise in the morning (around 8 in the winter). They served a nice breakfast (granola, yogurt, fruits, banana bread) that was surprisingly good and fresh. The hot tub was awesome. The entire place is so worth the cost, ~$225/night. There are some snowshoe and X-country ski trails that start on the property. I also proposed on one of the snowshoe trails; there were hardly any people we saw all day and the views were amazing, so it was the perfect place. It is a 5 min drive to Mazama (which has a store and a winter rental/lesson store). 15-20 minute drive to Winthrop (have to go slow at night b/c of deer) for more dining options. This is a great place for a quiet romantic winter getaway. read more

We stayed here last weekend for our 6th wedding anniversary. Both my parents and in-laws said we would just LOVE it and I'd say they were both right. We stayed in Cabin 6 ($185, Studio) the first night and really enjoyed our stay. It was the perfect amount of space for two people and everything was updated and tastefully decorated. The back patio (which looked out onto a stream and the forest beyond) was a nice way to end and start our day. We sat out back playing cards, relaxing and enjoyed our morning breakfast out there as well. The bathroom in this cabin was spacious and the kitchenette area was the perfect size for a casual weekend away. The only negative part of the cabin was the cable reception and the Queen bed which wasn't attached to the headboard. The second night we stayed at the Inn (Room 1, $215 w/breakfast) and the room was beautiful and the view was exceptional to say the least...probably the best in town! The King bed was much more lavish and comfortable than the cabin and the patio in this room looked out to the mountains and lake. The bathroom was huge due to the room being handicap accessible and everything from plush towels, extra pillows and robes were thought of and placed throughout. The only negative thing about the Inn vs. the Cabins was the fact that we paid $30 more and the "continental breakfast" they kept advertising was VERY limited in my opinion. Hard boiled eggs, yogurt, breads, milk, OJ and granola were the only options. I understand not offering hot items but to not have toast or other cereals is just not what I am used to. The pool was nice but very cold. It's inside Jack's hut and very quiet for a Saturday/Sunday stay. Again, the view can't be beat! Inside Jack's hut there were snack's offered (don't buy unless you want to remortgage the house) but the guy working the counter was VERY helpful and suggested a great hike for my husband and I to cutthroat lake. Just beautiful and reasonably easy for our first ever hike. It's super quiet and if you are looking for some serious R&R this is the place to go. They don't accept AAA and I felt the cabins were the better deal but both were very enjoyable. read more

We just spent three nights at the Freestone Inn and loved it! Our corner, upstairs room was enormous and beautiful. My wife loved the huge jet tub. We also went into the resort's hot tub a few times and it was great. We were there for the nordic skiing and the snow and conditions were perfect. We had breakfast and dinner. The food was great, service was friendly and helpful. It did take a loooooong time to get our dinner (an hour) and maybe 30 minutes for breakfast. I think they're probably understaffed, but the staff they had were doing their best. In fact, all the staff we encountered were very nice (front desk fellow Luigi was very polite and helpful). We couldn't get the Seahawks game on our room TV (the reason we chose a lodge room not a cabin), but that's probably an issue with Dish Network. They did have the game available at their Jack's Hut recreation center nearby and that was fun watching it with a group of fans (lady with the 12th man flag -- lose it -- you were blocking everybody's view of the screen). There is wifi, but it was very slow no matter where in the lodge I tried it. Again, probably an issue with dish network. Verizon data signal was much faster despite being in a valley surrounded by mountains as far away from town as you can get in the winter. Overall, a great trip and a great place. I stayed here this last week. Tuesday is live music and a lot of locals come to listen. It is kid friendly. My room was absolutely perfect! The balcony looking on to the lake. The fireplace, the tub, the staff, the pool the cutest bar in Mazama! They make some very cool cocktails. I did not want to leave. I felt at peace. I really love this place, so when my husband asked if I wanted to get away for a few days, I jumped at the opportunity. We've been socially isolating since March, and a visit to one of their cabins seemed like a dream. When my husband checked in, the front desk person was sure to let him know the keys had been sanitized. Unfortunately, this person was not wearing a face covering. Since the latest information is that transmission of COVID 19 is via face-to-face interactions and not surfaces, I am pretty sure sanitizing the keys is not where the greatest public health gains could be made here. (Cabin was great. Fridge is kinda small, but everything else was fine.) read more

The Blue Angels are making me crazy! Mazama, take me away... The first thing we noticed when we opened the door on our spacious room with a huge deck was the peaceful quiet - broken only by the bozos below us bellowing at each other the following morning. The uptight German woman in the room next door put a stop to their nonsense, though. Thank God for uptight German women. The hotel sits on a pretty little lake. Great mountain bike riding right outside the door. Drive 15 miles to get into the town of Winthrop - which is a real old-timey Western town - slightly refurbished with gift shops replacing the black smith and saddle shops. The first Western ever written took place in Winthrop - "The Virginian" - I haven't actually read it, but the town boasts of it, so there's at least a 40% chance that it's true. The usually wonderful hotel restaurant was closed for renovations. And our pool time was marred by the handy-man choosing our peaceful moment to replace screens on the pool-house windows. The gas fireplace didn't work. But none of that mattered. What did matter? There were no F-14s strafing the roof. read more

Just spent three wonderful days and nights at the Freestone Inn. I was there for my brother's wedding nearby, and stayed in the main house in room 9. The bed was amazingly plush and comfortable. And in the room, not a single detail was missed. The bathroom was well stocked and had a shower (plenty of water pressure, and no shortage of hot water) AND a bathtub, and there were plenty of towels. And yes, there was a big-screen TV, which I did watch a little CNN on. The cell reception is spotty, at best. There's a wi-fi connection downstairs, but I was very happy to be off the grid for a few days. Everything felt solid--not flimsy, like many hotels. My room looked out on the lake and surrounding grasslands. It had a coffee maker, and in the morning I donned a plush robe and had coffee out on my beautiful deck. Then I went downstairs to the dining room, and enjoyed hard boiled eggs and granola for breakfast. I get so tired of continental breakfasts that are all bread and gooey, sugary pastry! The staff was wonderful. I left a couple of items in my room by mistake, and they packed them up and gave them to my brother. They even called me to make sure everything was in order! Mazama is really a natural paradise. I was thrilled with the Freestone Inn, which complements its surroundings beautifully. It's the perfect summer destination, and from the pictures I've seen, is probably gorgeous in the winter too. read more

Hard rock bed and poor customer service. My wife and I booked the two room king suite for three nights at the Inn for a weekend away alone, before the arrival of our second daughter. While the resort is beautiful and greatly located, the bed in our suite was rock hard and super uncomfortable making our stay not enjoyable, as my wife is 41 weeks pregnant and was not able to sleep, had really bad hip pains after every night that lingered throughout the day. We ended up going home more tired than when we left; not really what we had in mind for a relaxing weekend. After the first night, we politely asked if they had a topper to put on the mattress and they looked at us as if we were aliens... I explained that my wife was over seven months pregnant and that she has to sleep on her sides and that the mattress was rock hard. They responded that they could give us a few more pillows and an extra comforter. The comforter we were given was without a cover, which it's not the service you would expect from a $300+ a night establishment. On our way back to our room my wife was stopped in the hallway by one of their housekeeping staff that asked her, with a grin on her face if she is the one "that hates our beds...", which honestly made us really uncomfortable about asking anything else to the hotel staff throughout our stay. I spend an average of over 2 months a year in hotels for work and I have to say the level of uncomfortableness of the bed is only comparable to a Motel 6, and the level of customer service was way below par for the price paid. I still would not expect this treatment if we booked the room from a last minutes site like Priceline at half price, but considering that we paid $350 per night I am even more surprised about the experience and will definitely not go back, and won't suggest this Inn to any of our friends. It is sad to see how such a beautiful place with so much potential can be made look so bad due to poor customer service. Not to add any other negatives, the in-room wireless is basically unusable, even for the most basic browsing and emailing. read more

The location is amazingly beautiful, the grounds well kept, the staff very friendly. The reason I give it only two stars is the mediocre meal at the touted restaurant and the price given the lodging. The stuffed chicken was not very tasty, but the restaurant staff were wonderful. We stayed in a cabin which was in a lovely setting, but for the cost ($225 night) I would expect fewer ants in the kitchen area, a bathtub, and perhaps a reduced rate to use the ski and snow shoe trails. I would suggest that you bring your own water, the tap water had a very unpleasant taste, like old pipes. The location of the helipad which is close to the cabins created quite a bit of noise. An overall positive experience, but we've stayed across the country in many beautiful locations and for the price, we've had much better lodging and restaurant experiences. read more

We have not even left yet and I have to YELP about this place. I don't know if the owner is in over his head or what, but this place has so much potential but the management is ruining it. Example one: Dinner in the restaurant. I had a steak, it was great. My wife has a warm romaine salad but they were out of romaine so they used iceberg instead, didn't heat it, poured some vinegar on it and charged her $9.00 for it. Then we complained, sent the dish back and the poor waitress smiled and nodded and proceeded to give us a bill for the entire meal. I complained and the owner actually came out to question me about what was wrong before agreeing to remove it from our check. How about the waitress, can she not vet out service issues and make decisions? Then she came back out to us and said that was the first time she has ever seen the owner refund a dish!!!! Are you kidding me???? Is that not the easiest solution to poor service? Example Two: We had DND hanging on the door and missed the room cleaning. A note said we can have it cleaned until 3pm. We told them at 130 we would like to have it cleaned. They came in and did a quick crappy cleaning leaving towels just sitting on the sink instead of hanging. The floor was absolutely atrocious with crap on it. I actually think they might have brought in garbage to dump on our floor. (kidding of course but DAMN, use a vacuum, we are paying a lot of money). Then I called to the front desk and no one answered to come a clean it. Example Three: Went for a walk with my wife and we were walking across an icy lake which frozen about 12 inches thick. The staff came out and yelled across the lake at us as if we were 3 year olds. They told us ice was thin and we might break through. We said Ok and continued to walk towards the edge (we were about 3/4 of the way across). The lady then came back out and said, "didn't you hear me?".... I actually felt like I might get grounded. Did she expect us to levitate across the remainder of the lake? Save your money! This place is so "dreamy" but the negative feel of management is depressing. read more

Stayed here over Memorial Day weekend in one of the luxury king rooms in the main inn building. The room itself was lovely: in-room gas fireplace, back deck with a full view and lounge chairs, mini fridge and coffee maker, comfy bed, large bathroom, soaking tub. The view ultimately is what made the room so wonderful, as you get to take in the mountains, trees and lake all from the comfort of your bed. The bed itself was comfy and the decor was a nice blend of rustic and elegant. There were also fluffy bathrobes provided, so I enjoyed my morning coffee out on the deck while wrapped up in warmth! The location is absolutely beautiful and we all enjoyed the nature trails and bike paths that were on and near the property. It is definitely a small-town operation, so admittedly you are not going to get Four Seasons resort service, but the staff is all incredibly friendly and do their best to accommodate your requests. I liked that they also had a back patio with a fire pit, at which you can enjoy a nice cocktail in the evening. There is next to no cell reception here, but they do have free Wi-Fi, so if you come here be prepared to truly get away from your technology. If you're looking for a romantic getaway, tranquil getaway or both, I highly recommend this spot! read more

I used to visit the Methow valley often in the past when the Freestone had just opened and always enjoyed the stay. This was the first time in many years since I had been back to the area and my wife and I had a fantastic time over the Memorial Day weekend. With having many friends in the restaurant and hospitality industry, I am very aware of how beyond challenging its been over the last year with travel restrictions, huge business impacts and now the challenges getting employee's due to the ongoing stimulus program. We were very pleased at how quickly the Freestone bounced back with its reopening of the restaurant service and the overall support and quality. We were met with a warm welcome from Shay in management and got great service from Katie for breakfast in the Sandy Butte Bistro as well as Suzette and the staff at Jack's Hut by the pool side. Great place to kick back, cast some flies and relax! read more

Gorgeous setting, beautiful views, rustic and yet well kept lodge. We also had a delicious meal starting with a crusted & baked goat herb cheese wedge, with sweet jam, drizzled in a balsamic reduction, served with crustini & arugula. Yumm! Enjoyed the Fourth of July fireworks-free at the Freestone. Very relaxing, great staff, well kept property, and fresh air made it a great weekend. Cabin 3 was the best, right on Early Winters creek. The restaurant, on the other hand, is why I didn't give five stars. Food was good( except for the odd Chilaquiles breakfast..strange combination) but I found it unacceptable to be out of 1/3 of their breakfast menu and 1/4 of their dinner menu. Not sure how you can run out of that many dishes on a packed holiday weekend. We were all looking forward to the Steak Frites, their main protein, and were bummed they were 86'd. We will be back for sure, but will probably bring our own meals. read more

I really wanted to like the Freestone Inn. The cabin we stayed in was quite lovely, but the customer service was poor. The dining staff was rude, and the lodge's amenities closed very early (4:30 pm front desk, 7:30 pm dining, 9 pm lodge and spa). If you want to enjoy the winter sports and activities in the area, don't bother staying here. Everything will be closed, and the staff that is available will not be interested in doing anything to make your stay enjoyable. read more

This Inn has REALLY gone downhill!!! The staff is despicable and not at all warm, welcoming nor inviting. The dining room has a very strange hodgepodge of items and everything we tried was really really bad, I think they buy frozen foods at Costco and heat it up, and charge very high prices for reheated frozen food. The servers are very unaccommodating, fumbleing and untrained. Jacks pizza and bar was staffed by people that I wonder how they even find their way out of bed in the morning!! Where is the management in this place??? Lastly was the spider problem in our cabin as well as evidence of droppings. We stopped a housekeeper as she sped by in a lodge SUV and informed me that she's not in the pest control department and gave me a "too bad so sad" response to my proclamation about spiders and pest droppings. Never again! *As far as the response from the Freestone, I guess they are not very savvy when it comes to social media!! One of the great things about yelp is alerting fellow consumers when to be wary about a business, I make many compliments when it is warranted for many types of businesses and typically on their individual websites, but I will not let bad behavior, bad service, poor sanitation and dangerous health risks be rewarded without saying something. It's my obligation and my integrity. For the Freestone to just kick sand over the problems and point fingers back at a paying customer just shows how poorly and unprofessionally this place is ran. Oh and One more thing I forgot to mention, your out of control housekeeping woman who drives you're on site SUV speeds through the cabin area and not just speeds but goes the wrong way on the one-way road, this is very dangerous as suddenly she comes up from the wrong direction and nearly takes you out while she's text messaging on her phone. Gorgeous grounds, friendly staff, excellent food--this place is great! We got married in a long weekend here: Friday rehearsal, Saturday ceremony on the patio and reception in the barn, and Sunday brunch in the barn. The staff was friendly to everyone in our party, and went well out of their way to make our wedding day run smoothly. They took the time to know the bride and groom by name and helped us in any way they could. Everyone in our party loved the lodging, and although there was a glitch with the air conditioning in one of the rooms, the desk staff discounted the room rate without being prompted. We will be returning here for anniversaries and just to have quiet weekends in the mountains: all the access to the great outdoors but with city-level cushy living conditions! read more

I spent a few nights at Freestone late this winter. The cabin was cozy, and the food at the restaurant was good, but 3 things stood out as having room for improvement: 1) The hot tub and hot tub area could have been much more hospitable, the tub could have been cleaner (it was highly chlorinated and as a result had a tons of foam over the top) , and more seating or benches, or even a wood "deck" or rubber mat over the stone would have made it much more comfortable to go in after a day on the ski trails. There was no place to change, and the cabins did not come with robes, so it was pretty awkward to use the hot tub. 2) The inn is pretty stingy with towels. Now I'm all for re-using towels for a few nights, but it would have been great to have easy access to an extra towel or two for the hottub, we were able to get some at the front desk, but the attendent seemed to expect that we would re-use the (now chlorine soaked) towels again. 3) Lastly, due to an impending snow storm, we decided to leave a night early, now I know that you often can't cancel a reservation on the same day -- which is what we wanted to do -- but we were midweek (not a weekend nor a holiday) and the inn was unwilling to make any accommodations for our change in plans, no partial refund, or rain check or anything. Had they even offered a 10% discount on one night of a future stay, I wouldn't be mentioning this. I may return to freestone, but I also may consider other lodging options in the area to see if I am treated any better. read more

This place was a winter paradise to us! We stayed 3 nights in a cabin with our two dogs and a warm fire. It was doggy heaven! The ability to snow shoe right out our door was phenomenal. We intend to make this an annual winter escape due to the beauty, scenery, accommodations, staff friendliness, and activities to do all around the area. I realize people's expectations and experiences are different, but we also expect a lot from our vacations, and this met all of our expectations and more. This our third time renting the Steelhead lodge at Freestone Inn. Mazama is so beautiful!!! The property is well taken care of and really is magical...a true winterwonderland. The Steelhead lodge is a perfect space for couples traveling together. With three separate bedrooms upstairs with their own private baths, it is a perfect combination of good communal spaces with excellent private spots. The kitchen is open to the main living area which made cooking a very social event. The kitchen itself could have been better stocked. We end up packing up a lot of our kitchen tools, but a very nice layout. The snowshoeing and crosscountry skiing in this region is second to none. So nice to be able to go out for just a couple of hours and to not have to make a whole day of it. read more

Our family has been coming to the Freestone on and off for the last 10+ years and honestly wouldn't stay anywhere else in the valley. Mazama is the place to be in terms of family-friendly hikes, mountain biking trails, Nordic skiing and snowshoeing. In the summer we love to hike or bike in the mornings and then hang out by the pool or lake in the afternoons. This year was our first trip during the winter and it was absolutely magical to stay in a cozy cabin in the snow but also have the accessibility of two full-service restaurants and other activities out our front door. The cabins are also dog-friendly so that meant our pooch could enjoy a lovely vacation as well. Over the years, service and amenities have been consistent and superb. I learned that ownership recently changed, and we were delighted to discover that breakfast is now included (and it is an amazing breakfast!) and that Jack's Hut is now a cozy beer & pizza place. The library in the lodge is now a bar and that is a great addition as well. Prices are reasonable and there were no surprises. We were sad to leave... and will definitely be back! read more

Dog friendly establishment with no crazy rules other than be an adult and a good responsible pet owner and enjoy the stay with them. Just spent three nights at this resort with a big family group, 19 folks that ranged in are from 3-76. We rented 5 of the cabins in 3 different configurations, studio, 1 bedroom and 2 bedrooms. The cabins were spotless and were very roomy and it was nice that they came with cable T.V. so we could watch the Olympics. Great pool and a nice lake, this place really had lots to offer. We loved our stay and plan to go back next year. The only reason I didn't give them a 5 Star rating was the kitchen only had a little dinky dorm room refrigerator. read more

I don't know how a (once beautifully built) place can go so downhill so fast. It was a beautiful well run place years ago- owned by a different company. Our summer visit there this year was a shock. The new customer service and management was horrible. The hallway stunk. The lodge room had a number of functional things wrong with it. The rooms and setting are beautiful. However, the innkeepers have little sense of hospitality or responsibility. This place is pricey and upscale - but seemed okay to us in part because it claims to have a 3-star restaurant on the property. The idea of not having to drive anywhere after a day of hiking was appealing. It turned out that the chef had had an accident and the diningroom was closed the whole time we were there. First, they did not have any serious backup plan - which they should. Second - since part of what we were paying for is the convenience of a restaurant on the premise, they at least should have given us a room reduction - $250+ a night for still having to drive 15 miles(!!!!) for dinner is outrageous. But they would not (they offered a $20 rebate for the full 3 days - duh, no I don't think so). Third, they did apparently put together some sort of minimal service the second night we were there, but no one told us about that. I called down to the front desk/diningroom 3 times to see if there would be some accomodations, and no one answered, and when we went to the diningroom no one was there. They did not make any serious attempt to accomodate people, and no attempt to reduce their rates to what would be reasonable for any other lodge with no diningroom. Finally, the "continental breakfast" is embarassing- almost no choices- what one would expect in a downscale motel. As I say, the place is beautiful. But the Innkeepers should understand that if they cannot deliver what they heavily advertise, they should make serious financial accomodations. read more

This place seems to think they own the scenery and can charge high prices for that alone. They offer very low service and low quality everything else. We stayed in a cabin for three nights. They gave us key at check in and zero service from there. We had to ask, and chase down staff for towels, twice. I paid 549.00 for three nights. I expected quality soap, shampoo, towels, robes, slippers and clean floors - but none of that. It was basically one notch better than motel 8. Oh, and the air conditioner spit out water onto the bed, hence no air. The kitchen was sparsely stocked with utensils that came from a dollar store. And I was warned to be sure to clean all dishes at check out or be charged, really?, who is paying who the 549.00 bucks? What else....the pool was closed. It was almost 90 degrees everyday , and the pool is closed for season? That is just lazy. Worn out mattress and flat pillows. There is more, but unless you like to be ripped off, pass this one by. They have not invested any money into these rooms and it shows. If this hotel, as is, was located in a normal town or normal location, it would be considered a 2 star place trying to pass itself off as 5 star. I actually feel like I was take advantage of. We stayed in cabin 6 and thought it was pretty clean. The kitchen was small but was fine for our needs they also provided a BBQ grill. The only complaint about the room is that the TV cable reception was fuzzy a lot. The cabin has a little creek running in the back which was nice. The staff wasn't overly friendly. We were told that the breakfast was included but when approaching the dining room the guy at the front desk didn't seem friendly that we were there and asked if we were guests of the Inn. I responded we were a guest of the cabins and he said there would be a charge of $9.95 and we would have to let them know in advance if we were to have breakfast. I really didn't understand why since the dining room was empty. The pool was freezing cold and the hot tub is pretty far from the cabins. I probably wouldn't return to this Inn. read more

My husband and I spent 4 days here the first week of June. This place is so beautiful, both the building and the grounds.Since it was early in the season it was quite quiet and we really enjoyed our stay. The staff was extremely helpful, our room was very clean and lovely with a private balcony with a view of the lake. The food was exceptional. It is in a park-like setting with it's own, small lake, a creek and lots of trails for walking and bike riding. Close to Winthrop and surrounding areas. Looking forward to our next visit. read more

Rooms are gorgeous and comfortable but for the price per night, this is not the type of Inn or resort you might think it is. The dining room is only open a handful of nights and the food is way overpriced for the service, comfort and ambience offered. Huge uncomfortable wood chairs that swallow you up and you have to sit on the edge of it to stay close to the table. For the price of dinners, they should have white table cloths, candles on each table, comfortable chairs and create an atmosphere that is quiet and not loud. We were next to a bunch of young people drinking and talking so loud and no one on staff ever said anything to them even though it was obvious to all the tables around them that they were being inconsiderate. One table even got up and left. The loud group were acting like they were in a bar, not in a place where my fish was $30. This was a huge disappointment. The dinner staff seemed uncomfortable in their skin. Odd remarks, awkward pauses, and a feel of uncertainty approaching us as patrons at a very expensive place. So this along with the loud table and a dinner that wasn't really that great gave you a feel that this place just doesn't have it together. They should start over and cut the menu prices in half, bring in a TV to the dining room and call it good. They just don't know how to do upper class dinning and aren't set up for it. It was a horrible feel. We also felt the Innkeepers like another reviewer said, had no sense of hospitality or customer service and again, these are things that when you pay such incredibly high prices, you go in thinking you will be treated with care and hospitality. Not here. So if you just want to stay here and don't have a need to ask from the Innkeeper and don't eat in the dining room, you will be fine. We will be going to Sun Mountain next time. Its a full fledge run resort, full staffed and has eating options on every night of the week, and the rooms are more affordable. Hope Freestone gets it together. read more

This place used to be great, but not anymore! We stayed at the Freestone 11 years ago and loved it. Staff we're great and the food fantastic. We went back with friends to celebrate my wife's birthday and will never go again. Apparently, there is new ownership and it shows. First, our room was infested with fruit flies. Swarms that woke us up at night, got into our toothbrushes, towels and everywhere in the suite. Staff told us it was "fruit fly season." Next, the food was horrible. The steaks overlooked, the mash potatoes from a box and the pasta inedible. When we asked to take drinks to the hot tub we were told "this is a fine dining establishment" and we were only allowed one drink per person. Staff made us feel like we were dong something wrong instead of being on holiday. Even though they say you get breakfas, Staff did not show up until 8 AM so you had to wait for coffee in the morning. People were just milling about waiting to be mistreated. The espresso stand does not open until 9:30 AM so you can't go there either. We went to town every day for coffee. While they advertise HBO, we could only get three stations because "the cable was out." When pushed, the reception desk told us it was the Homeowners Association fault, not the inn. I told hem we booked our room with the inn, not the HOA. Oh yeah, and the hot tub was broken and full of bugs and leaves. Gross. And you can't get wifi in your room-you have to go to the main room in the lodge; apparently, the new owner is fighting with the homeowners association. The word in the valley with the local is that the new owner has no idea how to run the place. It is clearly suffering. Feels like a morgue. We won't go back. Used to be great but no more. read more

The Freestone is under new management, and it couldn't be in better hands. Chris and Jojo are wonderful additions to a Mazama gem that has not flourished under previous stewards. We had our wedding festivities there in June (sorry for the delay in posting!) and they went all out to make it a perfect occasion. They met with us on several occasions to plan a special event tailored to our every wish. The accommodations were perfect, the food was excellent (Chef Layne put together a fantastic menu, house made pate, many local and organic ingredients), and Chris and Jojo took time to meet our families and friends and make them feel welcome. They also became friends to us, and we will always be grateful for the role they played in making our wedding a time we will treasure forever. The Inn itself and Mazama are incredible, a luxurious lodge with many amenities (pool, trails for cross-country skiing in the winter and mountain biking in the summer, trout-stocked pond) in a pristine wilderness setting. The Lodge rooms are luxuriously appointed, and several have full kitchens. The cabins are more spare, but still tastefully decorated. As long-time visitors to the Methow, we are delighted to have Chris and Jojo restoring the quality of the Freestone! read more
