We shared the three meat plate (brisket, sausage and pork ribs), with charro beans and potato salad on the side. All meats were fantastic, very moist, especially the brisket, which was a nice surprise. The potato salad was so good I wish I had taken a pint home. My husband had the frito pie and loved it. Doni insisted the ribs were dry (even though my husband devoured them) , so he brought us a plate with pulled pork to our table. About 5 minutes later he brought us another plate with a fresh serving of ribs. All of these were complimentary. Now THAT is hospitality! It was so much food that we got to take a full to-go box for the trip back home. The atmosphere was charming and cozy, and we got to enjoy a great meal while getting some respite from the storm. One of the owners was working the register and took our order. We tried three meats, plus a deviled egg with brisket. First up was crawfish boudin, which was a first for me. It was fairly bright yellow in color, and while it did feature some tasty crawfish bits, it was really heavy on the rice. I'd prefer a little higher meat ratio, but it was a serviceable dish. Brisket (off the fatty end) was moist and tender, but was a little lacking in smoke. Again, a very serviceable meat. The best of the meats here, and one of the best in our four stops, was the outstanding pork steak. Cut from the shoulder, it had a nice, slightly sweet rub, good smoke, and was just perfect on texture. This was a very nice piece of meat, and a must-have if it's on the menu. Finally, the deviled egg was a mustard heavy affair with chopped brisket, and it was a nice side dish on a day that we didn't have many of them. Overall, a nice visit, but that pork steak - yum. Definitely try it!
