I have called them three times and they said they would fax it and three days ago said my copy had been mailed. I will never come to this group again. If this MRI were a matter of life and death...I'd be dead. Instead it is a matter of surgery or not. And the doctor needs the results! I'd rename this place regressive radiology....

I am well aware of that, however it is the office where cardiologist, Dr. Michael Lee was that day, which is why I had to experience such rude admin staff. Apparently the Medstar community manager is unaware that cardiology appointments are being scheduled for this location. Maybe the community manager could do something to address the issues, including the lobby directory? When you have a flu of one star reviews going back years, you might want to make some improvements. MedSTAR canceled my appointment with Dr. Michael Lee in downtown DC , and the next available time was *7 weeks later* in this north Bethesda location. It's much farther and more inconvenient. I arrived on time, but Dr. Lee was not listed on the building directory. I didn't see a listing for Medstar cardiology, so I called the number that was in the four texted appointment reminders. I was immediately put on hold, and never got off hold - I finally hung up when I found the office over 15 minutes later. I asked people waiting for the elevator if they were going to a cardiology office, one person was so I followed him. It was Johns Hopkins cardiology. The receptionist was very kind and asked if I had the phone number, I gave her the number that I had just called, I was still on hold, of course. She said that number was in Olney. Eventually, she was able to find the suite number for a MedSTAR office, she said it was not cardiology, but it was the only Medstar office she could find. I went there and the front desk staff immediately gave me attitude when I told them I had been looking for the suite for over 15 minutes. Within 30 seconds after I arrived, a male receptionist said to his colleague, you check her in. And she said to me well, you can go up to the sixth floor and speak with property management about the building directory. Really? What's wrong with these people? No interest in helping and they actually told me that I should go and deal with their admin issue? That is just ridiculous. A sad statement about the staff at this office. I bet if one of the three of the front desk people had been bothered to do so, they could have gotten the issue sorted out instead of having patients unable to find their office, and them having zero interest or understanding. The medical assistant was very good, although she made an error recording my weight by +25lbs. She was kind and understanding, apologized for the difficulty although obviously it's not her fault. Dr. Lee is very good, he said I was a third person that day who had had the same issue. He had been trying to get it corrected. Pretty sad when you've got a good doctor and an unprofessional admin staff. My appointment ended around 4:20, none of them were still around to take my payment. The reception room had zero staff. In the past when I have come to this medical center, offices have validated my parking ticket, but there is no one I could ask. I thought maybe if I waited a few minutes, someone would turn up - but no. Ironically, I saw a suggestion box so I recounted my experience. They had what used to be a pen chained to the suggestion box, but no pen. It's really unfortunate that MedSTAR is such a big bureaucracy that they can't even ensure that their doctors names are on the lobby directory, or in the alternative, in any of the four text messages that they sent reminding me about the appointment. I suggest they take the initiative and at a minimum put a sticky note on the office directories so that others don't continue to not be able to find them. But that would take some initiative, and they would have to actually care, and clearly they don't have either.

They answered any questions that the hubster didn't relay or remember to me. In recovery, he was comfortable . This is a big deal as we had an awful experience with another surgery. He was barely rolled out of recovery and he was in excruciating pain. We were both anxious prior to this surgery as a result of the last one( he had it at a hospital) but our fears quickly dissipated as he was feeling good in recovery. Today, I got the chance to experience what the nation's top medical research agency had to offer. First & foremost, if you do not have to drive, PLEASE take Metro...hindsight regarding parking is most absolutely 20/20. Plus a little exercise doesn't hurt anybody. I had an interview today, yet not before the 'screening for access' took place: Pull vehicle forward. Turn off engine. Leave door open. & then take all of your belongings, including every piece of computer & or electronic devices on your person. While the vehicle was getting screened, so was I. After a few minutes of having my ID scanned more ways than one, providing the small piece of paper from the initial license plate log in, I was giving a temporary visitor pass with a full headshot & my name displayed. I was then allowed to go on my way. A way that took 30 minutes of following the map to the dedicated building. Actually, locating the building only took 10 minutes with a couple of u-turns here & there, yet finding parking was the most time consumption. Kudos to the NIH police officer off the Old G-Town Road gateway entry for pointing me in the right direction to a MLP (Multi-Level Parking garage) that had spaces available. I'm sure if I passed him one more time, he would not have been as friendly. :-) Although I arrived 45 minutes early, I was now against the clock from finding the building & a parking space. & in clutch mode, the kind spirited parking attendant MLP-6 heard my internal plea & told me to leave my keys with her & to be on my way...THANK YOU Ms. T -working the AM shift! After a few more friendly fingers pointing me in the right direction, I arrived to the laboratory, one of many massive laboratories housed in one building. Well perhaps I knocked on the wrong door at first, yet the Lab Techs & eventually the Lab Manager were all very nice turning me around to the appropriate laboratory. Every facet of a person I crossed paths with today, whether maintenance, law enforcement-security check in, clinical, scientific, & even an Educator, was simply pleasant & helpful. I can only imagine the camaraderie amongst everyone within these 27 different institutes that makes up NIH. & their own personal stamp in discovering innovations to improve health & or save lives. What an amazing & well manicured campus of greenery, LEED buildings, handicap parking spaces, parking buildings (mostly for permit holders), LED crosswalks, & of course the never ending maze of getting around.

Driving and parking can be tricky as its right off 355, I'd encourage you to take public transit if you can. There are many, many buildings including a hospital onsite as well as many other offices. When arriving if you're not a staff member you'll need to go in through one of the main entry buildings. There is one literally steps from the Medical Center Station, be sure to bring a government issued photo ID, and the security screening process is similar to what you'd encounter at the airport. Depending on the time of day the lines can be pretty long. Once through the security area you head out the door and there are various shuttle buses that will take you around campus, just be sure to take the correct bus as some buses make stops to other NIH buildings not on the main campus. This place is pretty self contained, there's cafeterias in some of the buildings, a credit union on-site, and plenty of nice paths to walk around. On the campus you'll find a unique mix of really old buildings, mid-century buildings, and newer modern buildings. I was in one of the mid-century buildings and it needed some refreshing. I was here for a meeting and the meeting facilities were nice although basic which is what I've come to expect at a government facility. Although the room was spacious and accommodated the group that was in attendance. Overall a nice place, people who worked there were approachable as I wasn't quite sure where I was headed. Although if you're there for an event or meeting, I'd advise getting there at least 45 minutes ahead of time if you want to be on time.

And there's a bit of luck involved -- finding the right doctor, selecting the right treatments or surgery, and with the latter hoping you're not going to be among the % of people whose surgery is unsuccessful. There are reviews on here from people who no doubt were on the wrong side of that, and it's awful. Maybe something went wrong, maybe they were among the tough cases that Dr. O'Brien takes on despite the risks involved. But my experience was different. Dr. O'Brien was the right surgeon, with the right surgery (lumbar disc replacement) that ended my several years of agony and dread of lifelong disability. I had a previous surgery with another doctor, which did not fix the problem. Disc replacement was an absolute godsend and Dr. O'Brien and his team performed mine flawlessly -- plus his office was able to get insurance to pay for it, which was not easy (and not available to everyone, sadly). ADR is a difficult surgery -- there aren't many doctors who perform it regularly, let alone consider it a strength/specialty. But Dr. O does. I conducted extensive research prior to my surgery and he's among the top 2-3 docs for ADR in the D.C. area. If you're a good candidate for ADR, don't hesitate -- it's a way better choice than a fusion. There's a Facebook group you can search for, where you can learn more from actual patients. Just choose your surgeon wisely.

However, now that Dr McNamara is part of Bethesda Physician Associates, an MDVIP practice, there is no comparison to the past. Now, if there is an issue, I usually get a callback from Dr McNamara within an hour or so. If I am sick, I can usually get a same day or next day appointment. The physical exam is comprehensive and is not rushed. I am highly satisfied with the change. The downside is that there is now an additional fee of $2,000 per year. However, I realize that in this age of managed care and insurance-driven health care, it has become necessary in order to get the care that I desire and expect.

He then proceeded to tell her that her test results were fine; however, he was sure she needed to get back to her family as he needed to get back to his. I understand people have lives outside of their work; however, it should have never taken until October to hear back about something regarding her health, good or bad. He now works for MDVIP where patients pay extra money to have a doctor on call whenever they need them. I don't know about anyone else but, if I'm going to pay over $1000 extra to have a doctor there whenever I need him/her, I would want someone who really cares about the hospitality aspect of the medical field. I don't seem to be the only person who feels this way either.
