This pharmacy is outstanding. I think very highly of the helpful staff. We need more independent pharmacies.

I called this morning to see if my daughter's compound was ready. They checked name DOB. Verified the dosage had been increased but never bothered to mention the price had gone e up $100. That went from$350 to $450. Unacceptable in my opinion. Will not return. Ask the price before you go read more

Good: They are quick to respond. Generally good location - although it looks like a CVS in an office park. Also, they are a compound Pharmacy with a staff that is able to turn around orders quickly - and precisely. Bad: A Big Dog! When was the last time you went to your doctor - or surgeon - and noted a dog walking around? Yes, you're right, Never. I was greeted upon coming into this place with a giant dog that was smelling me... and all the swatting I was doing fell on silent ears. As the courteous staff were helping me, the dog continued to be a complete nuisance... and then came the most alarming part of the entire experience: a staff member directed the Dog behind the counter so it wouldn't bother me. Customers: It's a compound pharmacy, meaning they are formulating (mixing) different compounds to make your prescription. When was the last time you saw a dog walk into a surgical theater or your doctors appointment? When was the last time you saw a dog lounging in a sterile laboratory? Why then would you have a dog in a pharmacy... and take them behind the counter. This is inexcusable. Having lost confidence in the integrity of the prescription I received, I am laboring through endless phone calls to get an additional prescription approved by my insurance and doctor so that I may pick it up from an alternative location. Again, this is inexcusable. I'm new to this state, but a state regulatory body needs to levy a fine on these guys. Customers, take warning. I'm giving them two stars as I understand it is hard to be a business owner. I wish to raise enough alarm for them to take action and to regain the confidence of myself and everyone else that was in the pharmacy. read more

I did the test between Vashan Pharmacy and Shady Grove Pharmacy, so that you, fellower Yelper, didn't have to. I am lucky enough to have two compounding pharmacies near me within a mile from each other. So, when I recently got a prescription for a compounded cream, I knew that I wanted to shop between the two and compare prices. IMO, people don't shop around enough when it comes to their healthcare - not this girl. For the same medication, I was quoted 52% cheaper at Shady Grove than at Vashan's down the road... automatic victor in my book! The service was quick (no lines) and the turnaround was short (pick up later the next day). I wish they would text you when your scrip was ready, but I knew to show up around the same time I had dropped it off. Easy enough. Definitely recommend Shady Grove Pharmacy for all your compounding needs. read more

I don't think I've had a pleasant experience with this pharmacy from the start. I was referred to this pharmacy by our child's dermatologist. The first time I came here I was charged a different price than all my other visits. Whomever answers their phones ALWAYS has an attitude. My final straw was calling them on 3/16 to ask them for a prescription refill. They told me they had to reach out to the dermatologist for a refill approval. I didn't hear back from them so on 3/17 I reached out to my doctor directly. My doctor sent the prescription request on 3/17. I still did not hear from the pharmacy. So on 3/25 I called for a status update. I was then told they didn't know that if I needed this compounded or not. I don't like being lied to especially when I called over a week prior asking for this medication. Just admit you've dropped the ball for the millionth time. I have been extremely patient with this pharmacy. Also judging from the owners responses to other customers I am glad I am switching pharmacies. This place needs customer service training very badly. To the owner, please spare me whatever snarky response you think of to respond to my review. I have receipts of every transaction to prove my claims, so do not lie and say this is defamation. read more

The most professional pharmacy. Medication filled on time. No extra waiting. Well organized and you are always welcomed by staff. They offer the explanation as how to use them and possible side effects as well as benefit of medication for you. Co- payment is as low as Costco. This is my new favorite pharmacy. Having the wrong pharmacy can kill you. I've experienced problems at other pharmacies ranging from incompetence to bigotry. At other pharmacies I've been issued the wrong medication, or denied my prescription for months while they FALSELY claimed that my prescription medication was simply not available, only to find that other pharmacies had it and that this one pharmacy (3 characters, beginning with C and ending with S) was holding out for lowest price to increase their profit margin. I'm never going back to that one. At one small chain local pharmacy I was actually refused medication by an actual pharmacist who, apparently assuming I was abusing the medication, announced my prescription to the entire store while claiming they don't stock it, which was untrue. I complained to the store manager and received an apology before changing pharmacies. Shady Grove Pharmacy impressed me today, August 12, 2016 when I called to inquire about a particular prescription on the behalf of a friend. The medication in question was prescribed to be taken in halves, but the pills issued by that afore mentioned 3-character pharmacy issued a generic which crumbles when cut. This drug has very dangerous, even fatal, side effects which are known to be triggered by changes in dosage, so solving the pill-splitting issue was essential for safety. I called around for a solution, even reaching out to a local compounding pharmacy. It was the compounding pharmacy which referred me to Shady Grove Pharmacy to solve this problem, and that compounding pharmacy turned out to be right to direct me to this place! It was someone named Mary at Shady Grove Pharmacy who identified another generic of this same medication which is formed such that splitting it in half doesn't even require a pill-cutter. Mary provided this solution ultra-quickly. I decided right then that this pharmacy was superior if only for hiring such a responsible and resourceful person. Honestly I've seen staff at other pharmacies I'd not trust to sweep floors competently. Curious as to why the 3-character pharmacy provided a generic known to be difficult to cut, I phoned back to see if they carried this other generic. No, the 3-character pharmacy carries only one generic of this medication. This is typical of my dismal experience with them. Currently all of my prescriptions are being filled by a Walgreens relatively close to my house, but recently I've been experiencing increasing difficulties, and so I expect my next default pharmacy will be this one. read more

Here's the kind of service I received from this pharmacy today. I called to find out if they offer compounding services because my elderly mother was in need of a compounded prescription FOR HER CAT. Mom would have a hard time picking up a prescription at the compounding pharmacy in the town where she lives. If Mom couldn't get the prescription delivered from her local pharmacy, I was planning on having it filled close to my home and then overnight it to my mom. Hence my call to Shady Grove Pharmacy, to inquire if this was something they could do. I spoke with Sheila who was (I have to capitalize here) SO WARM AND HELPFUL, and when she learned where I lived (Germantown) she told me that another pharmacy (Village Pharmacy) was closer, and she would call the pharmacist there personally to alert him to my needs. She also suggested that they might mail the prescription directly to my mother. I ask you, when was the last time any of us had that kind of experience with a pharmacy? With any retail establishment? As it turned out, we did not need the services of either of these fine pharmacies because my mother was able to make arrangements closer to home, but I was so impressed at how helpful and kind Sheila was, I came online to share my experience with others. I'm not even a customer (yet) but I feel like I got the red carpet treatment. These lovely people will have my business from now on. Still the best pharmacy in the area. I moved down to Silver Spring and still kept coming here. Best service, willing to work with me when I need it, and always friendly. I believe like most of us, in general I would rather support a local small business than a corporate behemoth. Of course, that decision typically comes along with some tradeoff -- convenience, price, service, selection, etc... Well, not here. I first visited to have a prescription filled on short notice by a doctor in the same building, and they could not have been more understanding or accommodating. By my next visit, I was greeted by name. And during the couple years since, I've come to expect that the mundane task of prescription refills inevitably will include a few minutes of lively conversation within a professional but casual atmosphere. I go out of my way to get my prescriptions filled at Shady Grove Pharmacy 15225 Shady Grove Rd Ste 101, Rockville, MD 20850 (301) 948-4222 because they practice the lost art of TOTAL customer service. The pharmacist at their Rockville location, Dr. Sheila Alizadeh, is warm, approachable and she has a wonderful sense of humor. Her super-professional staff are equally amazing and always go the extra mile to get what you need, when you need it. On the rare occasion when there's a problem, they go out of their way to solve it (contacting your doctor, insurance company, vendor, etc.) followed by an immediate phone call to you with the status of your prescription. Their goal is pretty obvious - to have your prescriptions ready and waiting when you arrive. Because of this, you'll rarely see a line of folks waiting; even walk-in customers are usually in and out in 10 minutes or less. If you do have to wait, you can relax on their beautiful white leather sofas with big comfy pillows, and enjoy the friendly banter and laid-back atmosphere. Aside from regular prescriptions, they also handle special-order medications, compounding and flavoring, dispensing of pet medications, and get this . . . they'll even deliver to your door! And if that isn't rare enough, by your second visit, you're not only greeted by name, but they've memorized your medication list, doctor's name, and they even remember to ask about a family member's health that you mentioned in passing at your previous visit. I originally found Shady Grove Pharmacy when my previous pharmacy stopped carrying a brand of medicine that I prefer. Sheila checked her inventory and told me she could order that brand for me to pick up the very next day. Wow! Even the big chain pharmacies couldn't find the brand, so I was skeptical, but sure enough, when I came back in the next day, everything was ready to go. Over the next few months, I transferred the rest of my medications to Shady Grove Pharmacy, and I couldn't be happier. If you want a refreshing, positive customer service experience, and like to support local businesses, stay away from the big chain stores with no personal service and long wait times - come to Shady Grove Pharmacy today. My daughter requires special eye drops that Shady Grove compounds. I have had excellent experiences for each refill and then FedEx in the chaos of busy deliveries couldn't seem to get to the package delivered to my home and delivered to the wrong home two times. The owner called me and took a lot of time out of his busy day to immediately remedy the situation. He went a step further by hand delivering the eye drops to my door so my daughter would not miss a dose and have fresh product due to the high temperatures and the incorrect deliveries. I don't know many places that would go above and beyond and then did not charge me to make the delivery even though it was not his fault. Also, his team had to make three bottles of the same compound and lost two of them. I will continue to utilize Shady Grove Pharmacy and should additional needs come up think of them first. The fact I can get a human on the phone and not a touch tone voice and a frazzled overworked pharmacist is worth it. Geoff is not only the owner, but he's hands on and customer focused. It's a small pharmacy in the middle of nowhere, with very limited hours. If you don't have a car and an ultra-flexible work schedule, don't bother even trying to come here. To get there via transit, you have to go to the Shady Grove metro, then wait for a bus that comes every half hour. When I finally got there, they did not have one of the medications I needed and I had to come back the next week. And, they are only open 9-5. I have to take away a star just for that--how inconsiderate of customers' schedules. According to the website, they have two pharmacists, so surely one could take the early shift and one the late? Or just one of them be willing to come in on weekends? I also didn't appreciate seeing people who came in after me be served before me with no explanation. read more

Sheila and Geoff have done an excellent job with Shady Grove Pharmacy! This pharmacy is the perfect combination of back-in-the-day mom & pop shop familiarity AND up-to-date efficiency and technology. The entire staff is warm and personal. My kids love to go there and beg to stop by to say hello when we are in the area. I have been filling prescriptions with them for over a year and from my first experience to every single one in between they have always made it a great experience. On more than one occasion they have gone the extra mile by sorting out insurance issues for us, rush ordering medications, and/or contacting Dr.'s for correct dosages. I went in last week for the first time. I needed a compound cream for my mother and spoke with the pharmacist who does compounding. He was amazingly helpful and kind. He jumped hoops to make the cream I needed and had it to me that evening. And they delivered it to my parents retirement home! Amazing customer service!!! And nice people as well!! read more

I go out of my way to use this pharmacy as well, even though there are 24 hour pharmacies in the area. After enduring several frustrating years at a large chain pharmacy, we couldn't take it anymore and found Shady Grove Pharmacy (thanks to Yelp). Everyone here is so friendly and helpful. I appreciate that there aren't long lines and your prescription is ready when they say it will be ready. Even better, I just discovered you can email the prescription to them so you don't even have to drop it off in person and wait. Just show them the original script with you pick up and you're set. The thing I appreciate the most is that the staff recognize you and treat you as an individual. You're not just a nameless person in the crowd. I highly recommend this pharmacy!! A simple liquid pain med for children was like asking the big chain pharmacies to run a marathon and back. CVS would NOT order it for me, nor would Giant. Within 5 min, this pharmacy had it done and ordered. The pharmacist (Sheila) was nothing but pleasant, warm and caring. I read the the glowing reviews about this pharmacy and decided to use it to fill my two new prescriptions last week. I don't have prescription insurance so I have to pay cash and the two prescriptions I had filled there were $25.00 and $30.00 more expensive than the big-chain pharmacy I normally use in Gaithersburg. Moreover, I interact more with the pharmacists at the other pharmacy than I did at Shady Grove pharmacy. I am all for capitalism and making money but not when the "mark-ups" are so much greater than what the 'big-chain pharmacies' charge- that they claim to be better than. IMO find a pharmacy with more competitive prices. read more

Awesome-great service by a cool bunch of people! After multiple disastrous visits to CVS, we switched to Costco but the service and getting in and out were a huge hassle. A friend recommended Shady Grove, and I couldn't be happier. We pay exactly the same as what we paid elsewhere with our insurance but the difference in service and staff were just unbelievable. This pharmacy is amazing!! No more CVS for me. Sheila, Geoff and the whole staff are great. After learning that my RX copay was really high for my blood pressure medication, Lev told me about a website to sign up for a program that limits your copay for this drug. I never would have know about that program if Lev had not told me and the program was even free to join. My copay went from $190 down to $25 for a 90 day supply. I had been getting that RX at CVS for the past 18 months. No one at CVS told me about that program. **Thanks so much Lev for going out of your way to help me save that money. It's going to add up!! What a WONDERFUL, CARING pharmacy. I am so happy that my parents have switched from one of the large chain pharmacies to Shady Grove Pharmacy. From our very first visit, we knew that we were in excellent hands. Sheila (a wonderful pharmacist) along with all of the other skilled pharmacists and assistants gave us such a warm and caring welcome. Not only are they the kindest people you will ever meet, they're also extremely efficient. My parents never have to worry about going without their medicines again because of the all-too-common mistakes made by the large chain pharmacies. Before switching to Shady Grove Pharmacy, my mother was without her medicine for 4 days because of a careless mistake made by the chain pharmacy. They didn't seem to care when they sent her away without her daily prescription. In pleasant contrast, when my father walks into Shady Grove Pharmacy for his prescriptions, everyone behind the counter waves and says hello to him. It's such a wonderful neighborhood atmosphere. It's great that their prescriptions cost the same and in many cases less than the chain pharmacies but what's most important to us is how we're treated. If there's a question about our prescriptions, Shady Grove Pharmacy calls the doctor and makes sure that they have an answer. Shady Grove Pharmacy takes excellent care of my parents and I'm convinced that they put love into their prescriptions. It may sound funny but I truly feel that it's the love and caring that Shady Grove Pharmacy adds to their prescriptions that helps to make my parents feel better, along with the care of their excellent cardiologists. It's also great to have the pharmacy in the same building as my parents' doctors. I can't say enough about Shady Grove Pharmacy and I highly recommend them.
