I got Roman's name from a fellow realtor of mine. I called him and he was at my house within 2 hours. That was great and found out he lives close by too! He brought all of his crew once he found out this job was not the typical kind. I needed my sunroom leveled since the prior owner had not constructed properly. He told me he wasn't inexpensive, but the job would be done right. I liked his confidence and how he wasn't afraid to take on the job. The last contractors I spoke to, were not too sure how to approach it. I wanted to add transom windows to jazz up the design and he was all for it, and found the proper place to make them. Roman and his crew did an extensive demolition to our kitchen. Walls were removed, a new support beam was installed, new drywall and texture went in, and flooring was removed. This was a HUGE job that was all done in 9 working days! Getting a job like this done well was great, but getting it done that fast was a bonus! Moving to a new city has enough challenges on its own, but to add the thought of doing a kitchen remodel on a temporary living situation was just as daunting. How do you find a contractor? Will it be quality work? Who can we trust? Austin rehabs are booming business right now, is there someone that would even consider our tiny project? Roman Leal Construction was the answer to all those questions. We placed ourselves on a strict budget and was adamant about sticking to it. Roman met that budget and was even under (never told him what our budget was so that tells you that he was extremely fair and charged accordingly to the job). We just moved to Austin and planning on renting out or selling condo once we get the lay of the land and purchase a forever home, so we did not want to break the bank with outrageous upgrades that made no economical sense. Roman and his crew were awesome, so easy to work with!!! And he finished everything in 5 days! That's right, 5 DAYS!!! Had to wait another week for our new range to come in (not his fault, Home Depot's) and he came back to do touch up painting! He wanted everything perfect and done right. Our original kitchen was so dark and rather depressing to be in and now...WE LOVE IT! Remember, we were on a "BUDGET," so just new quartz countertops, only had cabinets painted (white upper & gray lower), repair under sink, installed disposal, added 3 new can lights and new stainless steel appliances (Refrigerator came with condo, it needs to be counter-depth, but going to keep it for now. It works fine and again saving money, just waiting on new fridge for a sale, this one is too big, but works fine.) Roman knows everyone! Every where we went from looking at countertops, Home Depot, even the bank, everyone knew Roman. Hand shakes, high fives and friendly greetings followed us anywhere we went. (Which was so cool, because his countertop fabricators even threw in a FREE sink! Thanks Miguel!) We are so excited to FINALLY have our completed mini condo kitchen. (IN JUST 5 DAYS!!!) After 7 quotes and 3 months of planning, we got the kitchen that makes us so happy to be in with fully working and reliable appliances. It is so much brighter & lighter...just feels fresh and cozy. And absolutely beautiful and stunning! I actually enjoy being in there! (Eventually, we would want to change the flooring, but that would require changing the fireplace, entryway & bathroom, that's for another time!). After our previous good experience with them we had them quote on a much larger, full remodel job on our "forever home" fixer-upper we just bought in central Austin. They came in with a better price and faster time estimate than the other folks who quoted: it was a no brainer. After 6 weeks of heavy duty remodeling they're done, we're living here, and we can hands down say we made the right choice yet again. Roman's crew did a wall to wall remodel of the living/dining/kitchen and master bathroom. Multiple support walls were removed & replaced with header beams, new plumbing was installed, power & gas lines re-routed, new tile, appliances, counter-tops, lighting, exterior door installed, etc...huge job. His crew, like last time, was friendly, on-time, and extremely experienced. Several times we had some ideas and his crew would suggest alternatives or tweaks which ended up looking amazing and better than the original idea - they are craftsmen who take pride in their art and it shows. Just like last time Roman was exceptionally available and promptly responded even on nights and weekends, and is a nice contrast to the typical stereotype of a shifty contractor that makes you feel like you're getting conned. Even when we had to make course corrections or changes he was accommodating and patient, understanding how stressed we felt. To top it off, our new neighbors came over unsolicited while we were moving in and commented on how our contractor's crew had been super mindful of not leaving a mess, keeping the noise down, and had even been keeping an eye on traffic in the street to make sure it was safe for their young daughters who were playing in the front yard. DO NOT TRUST the online reviews and fall prey to Roman Leal Construction. He was paid $107,500 to do an extensive remodel of my home. I also paid over $60K for materials. The job took 4 months beyond the promised completion date. There were weeks when no one showed up. He will argue every that every small item is an extra charge and at one point even had the nerve to ask for an advance beyond the specified amount/timeline in his contract. He DID NOT use LICENSED plumbers or electricians and there are HUGE issues that will be thousands to repair those items. These are safety and code violations NOT TO MENTION BREAKING THE LAW! He painted the kitchen with EXTERIOR house paint - another painter trying to correct the situation found the can. The cabinets are destroyed and cannot be salvaged. He did a new roof as part of the remodel. Within a week of moving back in the house, a huge portion of the roof blew off. He would NOT even return a phone call and I had to pay a reputable roofing contractor $2,200 to just repair until the WHOLE roof can be replaced AGAIN. New windows were installed so out-of-square that they do not work properly and have to be torn out and re-installed. It is going to cost as much as the remodel to just repair everything his company did wrong -- not to mention the inconvenience and expense of moving out during another remodel. Roman Leal has ZERO conscience ! Do not expect anything to be corrected once he is paid. DO NOT USE his company or he will DESTROY YOUR PROPERTY and IT's VALUE! read more

Roman Leal and his team upgraded our porch to a proper sun room. We got a few different bids before we started our process, and while Roman was not the cheapest, he was by far the most thorough in his bid and in his communication. One of the other bidders barely asked any questions and somehow came up with a quote. That did not inspire any confidence. Roman spent time discussing the project and our goals and came up with a detailed bid. As the project progressed and we wanted to make modifications such as adding transom windows, adding rails for the steps, and moving the AC unit, Roman was very patient and wanted to make sure we were going to be happy. He didn't rush us to complete according to the original plan and was very willing to work with us. I got regular calls and texts to verify design choices and clarify progress. One of primary goals was for the sun room to look like it was part of the original design of the house, and Roman's team did a great job to meet that goal. The siding is well aligned, the roof line matches, and overall quality is great. We greatly appreciated Roman's availability and quick responses to all our communication, mostly via calls/text and email. We will absolutely call upon Roman again for any other house projects. So we have a project (AUD) in our backyard. Roman has been involved in the project for a year, perhaps 1 1/2 a year. Guess what gang? Not done yet. The home has failed its *6th* inspection. Yes, six. Like, more fingers than I have on one hand. The same items keep failing on the last three inspections. He doesn't correct the citings but keeps calling out the City to inspect the building. It's as if he thinks that the City will just magically forget. Don't believe me? I have copies of the inspection reports. Get this: So the City says that the sewer pipe at the structure needs protection, and suggests building something over it. What does our man Roman do? Throws a pile of dirt on the pipe leading *up* to the building. Erosion. Science. It's a thing. The inspector just left, and, failed the project again. What do you do with a contractor like this? Answer: Stay far away. Caveat Emptor, y'all.I hope that he has enough decency and integrity to finish our project. read more

We've done a few projects on our house and each time we've used a different contractor. We've always had problems with contractors not meeting our expectations, from quality of work or trying to change the price despite contract agreements. We started our most recent project-replacing our existing carpet and tile with new flooring throughout the house- by getting a few bids from different contractors and searching out their past clients to get recommendations. We ended up selecting a contractor who only lasted a week on the job (he tried to double the price of his bid) and ended up getting Roman and his crew to finish it for us. He finished it within the expected budget and in a reasonable time frame. They showed up every day, on time, and exceeded our expectations in terms of quality. He addressed and corrected every concern we had along the way and we couldn't be happier with the result. The owner of this company broke the contract I had with him, didn't complete the work, didn't pay all of the sub-contractors that performed work for him, and did not perform work that would pass county inspections. He has refused to stand behind the work he did perform. As the general contractor his job is to convey the requirements to the sub-contractors, oversee the work they do, ensure the work is performed to the required quality and handle the payments for the sub-contracted work.
