We were at Romeo's Euro VERY recently. Have been going to Euro since 1994...back when it was on Longmore in Mesa. We have thoroughly enjoyed the MANY options available over the years. Euro was known for & celebrated as being a highly-rated Mediterranean restaurant known for its extensive, fresh from-scratch menu. The last couple of times we've been there, we have been disappointed to see the menu's diminishing options. No more cream sauces, very little seafood options, etc. Gone are our favorite GO TO items. Extremely sad to see. I understand how many things must have changed after Romeo passed, and how adjustments must be made. I hope that you can go back and investigate what the favorite 15-20 dishes have been over the years and bring them back. Unfortunate to see the menu has items that you can find at MANY restaurants in the Valley, and that the "highly-rated, fresh from-scratch" menu that made EURO so wonderfully eclectic has drastically changed. My husband and I went to Euro Cafe after attending a show at the Hale Theater Concert Hall. We were seated right away, and the server was quick to get us water and menus. My husband ordered his usual gyros pita and I tried the REUBEN... Grilled pastrami and sauerkraut with thousand island dressing and melted Swiss cheese. I asked if the dressing could be left off and brought on the side. The server explained that it was not possible. At this point I figured I would be able to remove it myself. NOT! It was all mixed together with the sauerkraut, very soupy and made the pita soggy. I picked through it to eat the meat and some melted cheese. Long story short...I should not have ordered it. This is the most authentic Greek restaurant we have found in the valley. It is popular, so if you plan on going at the prime dinner time, make sure you make a reservation. It's an interesting place. You walk into what is basically a gift shop with a bakery counter. There are lots of cool things in there and I need to remember to look here when I need to buy a gift. The pastries all look amazing. The dining room has tables with bistro chairs, and large chalkboards near the kitchen with the least wines, cocktails, and seasonal items. There is also a lot of wine. Our server was great--she was there often enough without being there too much. She made sure we had everything we needed. We ordered: *Fries with feta dressing *Gyro pita *Greek salad *Chicken de Medici pita *Monte Cristo *Spanakofillo *Tortellini Gianni If you've been to Greece, you know there is no lettuce in Greek salad, and there is none in Romeo's Greek salad, and it is fabulous! My friends and I came here for lunch recently and had an awesome experience. This place has been family owned for a very long time and I love that they've been able to stay open for so long. There is a large parking lot which is always nice. When we arrived, we had the place to ourselves. All of us were starving and ordered quickly. While I waited for the food I looked at the items they had in their gift shop and their bakery. Lots of really cool nicknacks and other home decor. The food arrived and it was so delicious. My friend and I ordered the euro and roasted eggplant salad. Both of these were incredible, especially the euro. I highly recommend the euro!!! The service was great, everyone working was very nice and friendly. I decided to take some desserts to go which included the chocolate covered cookie dough. What a downer- I had been planning this date for a few days. But the phone number was down for a reservation. So I went to the website and sent a reservation request. A few days later, the phones are still down and no email response. We came in... we sat for a while. First they did not have menus for every table, so we had to wait for one. Everything took forever (we were there 2 hours start to finish without any apps or desserts). Got the menu and ordered. One regular dish and one gluten free. An hour later the gluten free comes out not gluten free. It's ok. It's fast to fix, but the food isn't good. Lacks flavor and it's super watery. Not impressed on every level. Our group had 10 people go for lunch on Wednesday. The waitress was very friendly and helpful. I ordered the farfalle pesce. It was fabulous, and it was enough food for three meals. Very generous portions. The meal came with soup or salad. I had salad, but the soup of the day was lentil bacon. It's very unique menu and extensive as far as the variety goes. Tried out Romeo's Euro Cafe for a weekday lunch. The location is perfectly situated in downtown Gilbert so there is a bounty of available parking nearby. There is a kitschy vibe inside and they sell knickknacks when you first walk in. All the seating are tables and they are kind of jammed into each other. I've been here before on a weekend evening and this place can get packed, but lunchtime only had a few tables seated. With only one waitress for the entire restaurant, service was on the slower-end. The kitchen is also pretty slow and will stagger how they bring out food. We shared some fries with feta dip (delicious) before digging in to the Feta Gyro. While the creamy feta dressing for both the fries and the gyro was delicious, it was overpowering to the gyro and didn't allow the meat to stand out. read more

It pains me to give any establishment less than four stars. I want to help businesses, not hurt them. I will start by saying the restaurant is cute and the service was fantastic. I think if they simplify their menu, they could have some specialities and perfect the dishes. Unfortunately, the majority of us thought our food was pretty bland. I got the shrimp michaelangelo. It was missing garlic. It just tasted like buttered noodles. I was disappointed. A few of my friends got the Tortellini Gianni and also felt it lacked flavor. The star of the show was the ravioli bolognese. Although, it left something to be desired, I would try it again. Stopped in on a Monday night after grabbing a happy hour drink at the White Rabbit. They weren't busy and we were seated right away. Our waitress was sweet and friendly and took our drink order right away. The menu is extensive with many salads, gyros, sandwiches, pastas and entrees. I ordered the grilled chicken salad and asked for my dressing on the side. Our waitress said they couldn't do that but they could do 'light' dressing. Didn't understand why but it turned out just fine. My salad was huge and loaded with roasted peppers, black and green olives, hearts of palm, walnuts and more. Also served with a couple pitas. My sister ordered one of the pitas and it too was very big and delicious. My brother in law had a pasta primavera and it was very large and delicious as well. My husband has the Roman Baked potato sub which was also so delicious. All the portions are definitely large enough to share and all the food is fresh and flavorful. As you walk into the restaurant, you walk into a cute gift shop and pastry counter which has baklava, macarons and other desserts. read more

Definitely a hidden gem! I actually peaked into the front of this place once before and thought it was just a store with decorations. I later found it in a search and wanted to check it out because of the extensive menu. So happy I tried it! The menu is HUGE! Seafood and pastas and meats and salads (19 different ones!) and pitas (25 different kinds!) and more. They also have an extensive wine and beer collection. It was totally empty when we went in on a Tuesday at 5:30. Both of our dishes were super good. Really amazing flavors and fresh. The Salmon La Scala had a great dill flavor and the Lemon Cilantro Linguini was soo lemony, just like I like it! I will definitely be going back to try more dishes!! read more

Four of us went on a Friday night at 5:30. Two of us had the Gyros, one had a pork dish and one had the steak salad. We got the popcorn shrimp and potato skins for appetizers. The appetizers were both great. The popcorn shrimp had a very generous amount of shrimp, the potato not so much. The pork dish and steak salad were great. The gyro was good not great. Portions were large on everything. Menu is huge and we had a tough time deciding. Will definitely be going back. Cafe type atmosphere. Would recommend reservations as there is not a lot of seating. For dessert we tried the hazelnut chocolate cake which was good but dry and I felt overpriced at $11 a slice. Server was great and happy to make recommendations. read more

My family and I love coming to Romeo's Euro Cafe! It's tucked away in the plaza and unassuming, but a great representation of Mediterranean cuisine. Throughout the years we've tried a good 50% of the menu and honestly you just can't go wrong! Some dishes are stellar and others are just really good, but we've never had anything that disappointed. Some of our favorites are the feta dill fritter appetizers, pasta rustica and the garlic olive oil shrimp entree. Whether you're a vegetarian or a big meat eater, there are plenty of options for even the pickiest person!! Meals are served with your choice of soup or salad. I always pick soup in the winter and salad in the warmer months. Be sure to save room for dessert!! Highly recommend ordering any of their chocolate cakes and the tiramisu! Pro tip: you can buy a bottle of their infamous feta salad dressing to go. read more

There is a first for everything in my life and a first happened to me here. I have some food limitations due to allergies. I was impressed that the restaurant provides a gluten free menu and it is detailed how to modify dishes to make them gluten free, notifies you they use the same frying oil, etc. But it ends there. If you have any additional needs or preferences beyond being gluten free you are out of luck. There was a dish that sounded really good to me, but comes with cheese on it. I tried to order without the cheese since I am allergic to dairy and was told that they do not allow ANY modifications to their dishes. I am not asking for a substitution I am simply asking for you to leave the cheese off the top of the chicken. Don't like olives on your salad or in your dish? Too bad you will get them anyway because again, no modifications allowed. I've never heard of such a thing. To me, why even bother providing a gluten free menu if you will not work with customers other allergies as well. Also, we asked the hostess if they had a gluten free menu she said they did. She seated us and handed us 2 regular menus. I asked for the gluten free menu. She responds "oh you wanted a gluten free one?" Kinda dropped the ball with customer service on that one. I will say our server was very good and this rating has nothing to do with her. The food is also decent and they do have big serving sizes. Does not make up for the lack of willingness to modify dishes to meet dietary restrictions/allergies. Will not be back. read more

Stopped here for an early dinner. We were in the door before 4:30. There were about 4 tables, but it still took a while to get our food. The four stars was a compromise between a great dish, a good dish, and fair follow through service. The house salads were very nice. I enjoyed the mushrooms in it. The ravioli bolognese had a wonderful sauce, topped with a block of sausage. The raviolis were delicious. The Transylvania chicken was tasty, the vegetables were roasted perfectly and the sauce was wonderful. Unfortunately the beans that came with it were cool temperature was temperature wise. Went for lunch on Saturday. I was excited to discover a place that had a wide selection of Greek/European food. The menu was extensive and impressive, but I just wanted something simple. They offered a simple gyro pita, but I was in the mood for chicken. The menu had plenty of chicken pitas, but they all had artichokes and things I didn't care for on a pita, so I asked if they could just give me a simple pita with chicken, lettuce and tomato, like the gyro one. No dice. I was told they couldn't make me anything different than what was detailed on the menu. Zero flexibility. No substitutions, no deletions, just exactly what it says on the menu. I ordered an Italian sandwich and it was pretty good. They have a little sweet shop at the counter, so I thought during our wait (which was pretty long) that I'd grab a chocolate for a snack. Went to the counter and asked for one, but the server at the counter said that if I was dining in, I'd have to wait and order it from the waitress. I said i'd rather just purchase separately because I was there (and there was only one waitress and she was overtaxed) but she said she couldn't do that. Even though if I walked in, she would obviously have sold me a chocolate. So I skipped it. Afterward, I told a friend about this and he said he had gone there years ago and asked them to leave something off of their order due to a food allergy, and they had refused that. Had to stick exactly to the menu. He even compared the cafe to a certain TV soup restaurant. The food is decent, the menu is massive, but the ambience isn't great. The biggest reason I don't give a better rating is their rigid, uncompromising customer service. Ironically, this is totally unlike most cafes I have experienced in Europe! Won't be back. read more

I came here tonight (08/21/23) for a friend's birthday dinner. It was relatively intimate, but we still reserved a table (and I'm glad we did as the place filled up quickly). The seating is nice, if a little cramped, but manageable all the same. When you walk in, you're greeted with loads of tchotchkes and delicious looking desserts, so be prepared for a definite maximalist style ambiance and a mouth-watering view of all the baked goods. The food is *glorious*. We ordered the garlic bread, the spicy lamb potatoes, and the asparagus puffs to start. Everything was divine. For my entree I had the penne carbonara. I've never had a carbonara before but I can't imagine this was a bad one. It was so good I wish I had eaten less appetizers so I was more hungry. I took more than 3/4ths of it home and it'll be a nice meal or two later. The service was wonderful. I don't know our servers name (I got there late) but she was phenomenal. So glad we stumbled upon this place! It is really cute, and the service and food was amazing! We were greeted by a friendly staff and the food was absolutely astonishing. Closest thing to real Italian I've had since being in Italy. The artichoke hearts were fresh and so delicious, the feta dressing on the salad was so good, and the breads and sauces on everything were great. But without ordering ahead an hour will never get it done! I've had lots of things on the menu and their eggplant dishes are the bomb! Last visit I got an excellent chicken and artichoke pasta dish to take home and they were sweet enough to pack my pasta separately from the sauce so the pasta wasn't gooey and nasty when I ate it 6 hours later! This cute little café was in downtown Gilbert years before the downtown area boomed into what it is today. I usually come here for dessert and a latte because the desserts are so enticing. The food menu is quite large and is Mediterranean-influenced. Entrees include pitas, burgers, pastas and subs. But if you don't have time to sit and eat, at least grab something sweet to go. Or hang around with your dessert and order a coffee drink from the espresso bar some late night. There is a lot of cool decorations and art to look at in the front area. Service can be a little slow at times, but overall this is a nice hidden gem to have a quiet dinner at. read more

Ohhh k!!! You'd never ever know it's here!!! The location is in a lil spot off of Gilbert road hidden. We stopped in after leaving another hidden spot and believe me, this staff had to have been the friendliest staff EVERRRRR!!! We will return to eat here as we were craving a different menu so decided on creole food however, we'll go back. Until then, I did end up buying a slice of AWESOME coconut cake that was fleshly baked and was the tastiest cake I've had in a long time. Yummmmm The automsphere was like a hoarder moved in but at least it was clean and smelled great inside. Cute, messy, but fun environment. I have been enjoying the third Tuesday 3 course with 3 wine pairing for many years. I've rarely missed a Tuesday! Every meal has been amazing with amazing wines! Recently I went on a normal night and I had the Garlic Chicken Pesto and my husband had the Spicy puttanesca which both came with a dinner salad and the feta dressing. Everything was so perfect as always. Every time I've been there it's been busy so I had made reservations as the place is cozy, and we were seated immediately. As you can see by my past reviews, Romeos is one of my favorite spots. Every dish I have loved, and there are many, has something different and delicious wrapped into a hand crafted meal. Today, for the first time, I tried the marinara manicotti. Wow. I mean wow! The restaurant was full today, since we arrived around 730pm on a Friday evening. The dinner crowd was strong, and we waited a few minutes to get a table. The soup tonight was a pork and vegetable with a light broth, really the perfect initial course. My wife and I always share the soup that comes with my meal, including the tasty little herb buttered bread bites tasty. When the marinara manicotti came it was piping hot and huge! But the real killer was the flavor. The mozzerella and ricotta cheese filled the gigantic stuffed shells like two massive manicotti pasta burritos . The hearty marinara submerged the two monster shells with its perfect, chunky and zesty flavor. Honestly, it's enough for two and I kept half of it to bring home for another meal. We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday while my car was getting serviced just down the road. We were seated immediately and our server was prompt in coming by. We ordered 2 pitas - both were FABULOUS. The pita bread was very soft and fresh. PLENTY of turkey, etc - the don't skimp on portions! We also ordered the fries with feta.... that ALONE is worth the trip! They sell it by the jar, too. There are a lot of cute and fun things to look at in the front of the restaurant and everything is for sale. The ONLY reason I'm giving 3 stars is that one of the ceiling fans was not turned on while the other 2 or 3 that they have in there were. The one that was not running had so much buildup on the blades, it was gross. It clearly hasn't been dusted for quite some time. I thought.... if THIS one is so dirty, then the others are, too. And if they arent keeping it clean out here, what's happening back there in the kitchen? So that dirty fan kind of tempered my otherwise really yummy lunch. read more
