The place to go for chocolates in Erie. I stock up with a few pounds of the bulk milk chocolate each visit. Their hot chocolate is amazing.

Delicious chocolate and delicious cafe. I recommend eating chocolate covered grapes and trying their frozen cocoa. So good.

This is my second time. To be fair, my husband loves their coffee and I had their hot chocolate last time, and it was fair. I tried the iced cocoa this time and it was nasty. It cost $5, and it was pretty small. It tasted much like a slim fast shake. My advice stay away from the iced cocoa. read more

We always come to the cafe before hitting the chocolate shop, which is attached. I had a chai latte, which was tasty and prepared well with friendly service. Kids had ice cream cones, which were huge and went over well. We usually eat outside but as there was a chill, we opted for the indoors coffee shop vibe. I knew I'd be in trouble with my wife if we didn't explore Romolo's after we both saw it driving along on vacation in Erie. She was beyond happy with the sponge candy shake which is one of their specialty shakes. The candy melts in your mouth and is covered in chocolate---take that and mix in a milkshake (with real ice cream) and you have heaven on earth according to her. She also raved about the lemon blueberry white chocolate cookie. This place is popular and was worth the 15 minute wait for the shake. read more

Seriously surprised to find such a chocolate shop tucked away in Erie, PA. They offer not only amazing chocolate and a slew of variety (meltaways, sponge candy, chocolate covered Oreos), but also an adorable café with outdoor seating and outstanding ambiance. I didn't particularly enjoy the famous "sponge candy," a little too hard for my taste, but my friend thoroughly enjoyed his box of peanut butter meltaways. If you think the chocolates are great, try their coffee and cookies. They have the best coffee in town. Starbucks is not even in the same universe. The cookies are a little pricey, but I have to admit they are worth it. The place is always very clean and the staff is friendly. read more

I'm going to have to say that the chocolate was just OK. I know, completely against the grain here but I've simply had better chocolate! I got assorted milk chocolates and truffles. If you think this is great milk chocolate, look to try Guittard Milk Chocolate Chips, and also (if you can find it) any filled chocolate from the German chocolatier Hachez. Best chocolate in town! All varieties are good but to me their dark chocolate is the best. Lots of fun shaped treats and suckers you can buy as gifts or can buy chunks of the chocolate by the pound. read more

We always take friends and family to Romolo when they are visiting, and we have never had a bad experience. The atmosphere is friendly, and the girls behind the counter are always willing to help out. With the building being split into 3 sections, I originally thought I wouldn't be able to find someone when I needed help, but they are always there with a smile. I recommend their signature chocolate covered sponge treats. They are a must buy when I visit. read more

This year, my students are working with PA Sea Grant to build a watershed map that highlights the positive things businesses and community organizations in Erie are doing to help our local environment -- things like recycling, composting, using energy efficient equipment, etc. The goal is to highlight great things we are ALREADY doing! I had a 6th grade student call Romolo's Chocolates to inquire about their practices today, and the owner, Mr. Stefanelli, was so rude that he actually made her cry. Then, he tried to yell at me about the project. Even if you disagree with the project - or the questions asked by an 11 year old - there's no need to be rude. You could always just say, "We would rather not give that information out." Next time you are buying chocolate, I strongly recommend you do not purchase from Romolo's. read more

We live in Buffalo, NY and go to Erie often. Romolo's meltaways and sponge candy are the best we ever had. There many places in Buffalo to buy sponge candy, but Romolo's beats them all. We had a place in the Buffalo area many years ago that sold chocolate similar to the meltaways, but they closed. Romolo's meltaways are absolutely awesome. If you love chocolate then give the meltaways a try. Their chocolate is the best I ever had. read more

Shame on Romolo's what makes you think that you can treat people with such disregard and bad customer service? I live in California but have family that live in Erie. I say this because of your comment about people coming from all around the world to visit your establishment....remember one thing......it only takes one! I hope that your action to this ONE customer is heard around the world. Romolo's has excellent chocolate but their customer service is severely lacking. I live in Raleigh, NC, and my brother was coming to visit for Easter. I figured I'll call Romolo's, order some chocolate, pay for it on the phone, and he can just pick it up and bring it down. Easy. But noooooo...the choco-Nazis at Romolo's said no. They weren't going to do that. They said they didn't have the staff or time to go through all of that. Fortunately for us, Stefanelli's didn't have a similar policy. We used to go to Pulakos but discovered Romolo's and haven't looked back since. First of all, I love the outside of the building. The employees are pleasant and helpful. It's always crowded during Easter. We spent $78 and my brother-in-law spent over $100. It's easy to do. My daughter has Celiac disease and cannot eat gluten; they now have signs posted stating "contains gluten". I go here every time I visit Erie. My favorite is the sponge candy. It's just as good as Pulakos but the pieces are smaller and easy to pop in to one's mouth. Yummy. read more

The coffee and pastries are excellent, however, the owner is kind of a jerk - unless yelling at patrons because they moved an outside table from the sun two feet over into the shade is standard acceptable practice for proprietor-client relationship building. read more

I really enjoy the coffee/espresso options and the occasional baked good, but I'd have to say the service is pretty poor. I've gone in to Romolo's multiple times and I consistently experience the same poor customer service. Baristas seem very put-upon to complete my order and I can hear them complain about things behind the counter. Not the atmosphere you'd want to return to! I experience better customer service at the Country Fair next door. The cashiers usually ask about my day and one even knows my name. I'd say that's pretty telling. read more

Romolo's has outstanding chocolates but their services and staff leaves much to be desired. They are abrupt, cold, and, at times, rude people. I, also, find it offensive when I just got done buying a large amount of chocolates to find out I have to pay $.25 for a ribbon on a box.
