I feel like over the years their quality has suffered a bit. Great location, huge selection, lovely interior and decor. I just don't think they've kept up with the times and competition in the city. This last time I was there I felt very rushed, it was busy that day, but with the selection I didn't really get a chance to look like I'm used to. We had an amazing experience with ye Ole sweet shop. We were trying to find a 50th anniversary cake last minute for my in laws. My wife was just going to settle for a supermarket cake. I said let me call around. I called ye Ole first and to my surprise they had some cakes in stock... not some cakes they had a variety of flavors and gluten free options. My wife was shocked. We ended up with a gluten free chocolate raspberry gluten free cake and a more standard white cake. We didn't tell our family the one cake was gluten free until they were done picking their plates. It was really really good. The cake decorator offered to write a note on the cake while we waited. It worked out perfectly. They also have a lot of fun cookie, cupcake and sweet treat options. They aren't close to our home but we will definitely be back for any other baked goods!! read more

A neat place that sells cookies in the shape of a scoop instead of the traditionally flat cookies we're accustomed to. They have a great variety of cookies, pizelles and even cannoli. They also have some artsy magnets, cups and funny souvenirs. Cake frosting classes are offered as well as other classes. Overall I would give this place an A- if it weren't for the bad service I received once, that lowered its grade to a B+. It's tragic but customer service truly makes a difference for a consumer and I haven't returned to the store since that day. I felt disrespected and I felt like it was racial. I mentioned my feelings to the owner and in my opinion she seriously downplayed it. I wasn't satisfied with the result so I didn't return. Now I enjoy my cannoli at Wegman's. They're just as good and I get two for $4.00!!! Also, I don't get snubbed or not waited on at Wegman's and that makes me feel even better. Oh well...life goes on. :) read more

I love this place! I travel to Erie often for work and every time I go, I make sure and stop for a box of cookies to bring back home. My friends and family love them. Our favorite is the cookie with brownie batter in the middle. This place is so reasonably priced, which is a relief from the heightened prices bakeries usually have. I've never been disappointed with any of their eats! Yum yum yum! I've tried just about everything but the cake! Nothing against cake, it just isn't a really on the go downtown food! These people know what they're doing! Good flavors, not sickeningly sweet, excellent textures....each item is well made! I did have a coffee inside one day at one of their tables, and it had to be the worst coffee ever ! Which is a shame because it seems coffee would do well paired with one of their treats! I'd hate to see a nice biz like theirs loose customers to Starbucks or whatever is right down the road. I'm not a coffee snob by any means. I can certainly appreciate it, but some days "hot" is all I need out of it. It was bad enough to mention though (and that's pretty bad)! read more

The hotel where we were staying highly recommended this place, but I was disappointed by the initially surly service. I arrived just before it opened and waited outside patiently. As a young, plump woman came to unlock the door, I raised my hand in a friendly greeting. She appeared harried, and pointedly tapped her wrist (where a watch would be) to communicate that they were only then just opening, which I obviously knew from the hours posted on the door. As I stepped inside, she made a point of saying "We open at 7:30." I simply said that I knew and was merely greeting her. As I gave her my order, her manner improved as I'm sure she realized how rude she'd been. I credit them for excellent baked goods, but her uncalled-for treatment of me marred the whole experience. I would not return if I'm ever in the area again. If she "can't stand the heat" perhaps she should "get out of the kitchen," as the saying goes. read more

These cookies and the bakery are so AWESOME! We stumbled upon Ye Old Sweet Shoppe in 2011 when we went to Erie for a wedding. My kids LOVE these cookies. So unique...thick and chewy, great flavors and quite a mouthful. And guess what....they deliver. As the kids have gotten older, I have been sending them Ye Old Sweet Shoppe cookies to college for a care package so all their friends can enjoy. It's not hard to find, it's easy to find nearby street parking, so why not swing by the Sweet Shoppe? I recommend the cookies but it's also a fun, different place to grab an ice cream cone or a coffee (limited seating indoors and outdoors). The location provides some good people-watching and the decor is cheerful and trendy, even though this Erie favorite has been around forever.
