This review is quite overdue as I realized I simply forgot to write it about a year ago when I saw Dr. Silkiss for a consultation for cosmetic eye surgery--upper and lower eyelid potential to look better. Dr. Silkiss spent a little time looking at my lids and overall look, and said she thought I should wait a bit longer. I currently have a very small amount of filler under my eyes and botox around my eyes to help rejuvenate the area. Dr. Silkiss felt this method was doing a good job for now and to wait until it wasn't before moving into surgery. I appreciated her honestly and sincerity. As a sidenote, Dr. Silkiss was running quite late that day because of an issue at the surgical site which was not her fault. My appointment was pushed back about an hour and 15 minutes after I arrived, so I had to wait. When I saw Dr. Silkiss arrive, I could see she was not happy herself to be so late and there was a waiting room full of people, like me, who had been pushed back and waiting. Even though this was inconvenient, it was unavoidable on that day. Sometimes, things just happen out of our control. I was referred to Dr Silkiss by my eye doctor for a blepharoplasty on my right eyelid after years of having a drooping eyelid. It had gotten so bad it was interfering with my reading, driving, and causing balance problems when I walked! Dr Silkiss is very definitely worth waiting for.. and her office staff is very thorough in going over all the rules prior to surgery. Day of surgery I checked in to Aspen Surgery Center, and they were very professional in a very thorough prep job for surgery. You are awake during the surgery, and I really appreciated Dr Silkiss dry sense of humor and professionalism! There was very little discomfort after surgery, easily handled by Tylenol! post op instructions were very thorough, and actually after just a few days had no problem going back out in public. I think key to recovery is follow the instructions exactly! Results...my eyesight has improved greatly, no further problems with driving or reading. After what was supposed to be a routine basil cell removal on my lower eyelid, the unexpected nightmare of removing almost my entire lower lid was necessary by a Mohs surgeon and the team there could not repair the extent of the damage so they called Dr Silkiss who saw me in an hour and assured me she could fix it but no time to wait... emergency surgery 36 hours later. Little time to research, I had to take it on faith and the recommendation of the Mohs surgeon who was confident of Dr. Silkiss. Details too many to mention but if anyone saw the before and now after pictures and needed major reconstruction or anything in her area of expertise you would line up to sign up. Friends and those who saw the before and including the Mohs surgeon and myself all agree this was a miracle. As others have indicated, she's serious (thankfully) but any medical professional who is available 24/7 to reach her and on holidays no less cares deeply about her patients and her work.... because what she does is most serious. I just went to see Dr. Silkiss for some botox. I have several allergies and was concerned about having an allergic reaction to the Botox and having my forehead look like an inflamed and swollen tomato. Dr. Silkiss offered a local skin test of the botox which was a great option. I wanted to pay her for this but she did not want my money and would wait until I was comfortable to come and get the injections in my forehead. This is a very ethical and classy MD. First off, Dr. Silkiss is amazing; she is not only skilled, but compassionate. However, I'm getting ahead of myself. Let's delve a little deeper into the details. As my husband recently started working for a new company, our health insurance was in the process of transitioning from one insurance provider to another. Five days before our medical ended with our old company, a biopsy confirmed Basal Cell cancer in my lower eyelid. The surgeon who would have performed the surgery if I still had coverage with our original insurance provider highly recommended that Dr. Silkiss perform my operation under our new insurance. Taking his advice, I called Dr. Silkiss' office and made an appointment. During our first appointment, Dr. Silkiss explained the whole procedure and answered all of my questions about the cancer removal. While I wear minimal makeup, I did express my concern about any possible scarring. Dr. Silkiss promptly replied that it was her job to make "pretty eyes." By the time I left the office, I felt much better about the upcoming procedure. Fast forward to the day of surgery. When they wheeled me into the operating room, I began to get nervous for the first time. I started to shake on the table. Dr. Silkiss, who was standing behind me, put a comforting hand on my shoulder and gave me a reassuring squeeze. Then she began to smooth my forehead to stop me from shaking. Her compassion and kindness were above and beyond. The next thing I knew the anesthesiologist put me to sleep, and I didn't awaken until I was back in the recovery room. As to the actual procedure, Dr. Silkiss had to make an incision in the middle of my lower eyelid to remove the Basal Cell cancer. To close the incision, it required her to snip the outer corner of my eye as well. Basically, she had to re-shape the eye. As expected, there was swelling and bruising. However, I was meticulous about following the after-care instructions. Ten days later the stitches were removed. It is now about three weeks after my surgery. I have only the slightest bit of swelling and bruising that remains. It is important to note that I was told it can take about six weeks for all the swelling and the bruises to completely vanish. It is without reservation that I highly recommend Dr. Silkiss should you require eye surgery. To reiterate, Dr. Silkiss is kind, compassionate, and highly skilled. The best compliment? People cannot believe I had surgery three weeks ago. My eye looks fantastic. You would never know I had a procedure done to remove cancer. As promised, Dr. Silkiss delivered a "pretty eye." read more

I have been living with what I thought was a sty in my eye. My primary doctor keep saying hot compresses and it will go away. After ten years and it still being there I changed doctors. My new doctor referred me over to Dr. Silkiss. No that is not a sty, but a cyst. This has to be removed and won't go away with hot compresses. She also found my upper tear duct was blocked.
