First time going to Ron by recommendations from several friends. Went in not really knowing what to expect but we were quickly won over by how quick they were able to get us in. They diagnosed the problem (Seized cooling fan) that same day and had it repaired by the next morning. they were very thorough with the explanation of what need to be done and even let me know about the very low rear brake pads which the dealership even failed to catch, just a couple months ago. First off I am the only owner - I drove it off the lot and I have only used the dealership for all parts and services never missed. I recently discovered that the dealership had not done the work I had payed for even after bringing it to their attention them apologizing and I had lost days trust broken bla bla bla. I needed to find a place that would help me keep my vehicle in mint condition. Out of all the places SD had to offer RAC was open and answered the phone: An appointment was made and I dropped it off. Then this happened; I wrote out with bullet points some madness with sound effects and a time line of what was happening with my vehicle. So what happens when you take it into the shop most times they can't get it to reproduce your concern. You know it does that thing your not crazy. Well enter RAC they got the vehicle to reproduce what one was talking about, no bs at all they got it to do that clack clack dead thing. Then they call me and break it down. This was the most pleasant phone calls, They point things out and explain at the same time. Its almost as if they are teaching Auto Shop 101. Im sure if you know more about cars than its working its not working they can speak that as well, but that is not the case for me. It was just so easy, no drama, no crazy up-sale and no scare tactics. Your actually talking to the people that have their hands on your vehicle at RAC. They installed struts, air filters. timing belts and a few other needed repairs on my 2005 Prius at less than half of what the Toyota dealership wanted to charge me. dropped off the car around 10 AM and picked it up at 4pm. I used to take my Honda Accords here years ago. Like literally 20 years ago. The garage is no-frills and there's feral cats wandering around but they've always done quality work, and I never leave feeling like I've been squeezed like at the Toyota dealership. I cannot overstate how happy I am with the service I got at Ron's Auto Clinic! My Acura started showing the check charging systems light and made an alarming noise. Cursory google research showed me it was probably the alternator and that it needed to be handled ASAP. A friend recommended Ron's to me, and I called them up. They were able to get me in right away. They were friendly and courteous! There is also a cute and friendly dog that hangs out in the office and lots of cute cats that hang out in their parking area. Seeing that they are animal lovers at Ron's definitely got them points in my book. They called me shortly after I dropped my car off to let me know the diagnosis, and I was right about the alternator. There were a few other minor issues, and I felt that they didn't try to bs me or upsell me on anything I didn't need. I was also pleasantly surprised by the price they quoted me for all the services. They had my car ready for me the next day. Unrelated to this, part of my front bumper had popped out from a minor collision with a parking lot pole a few weeks before, and the folks at Ron's had popped it back in and secured it for me free of charge, which I thought was really nice. read more

Terrible service! I went to this place once because I wanted to get my car checked out since I was hearing a weird noise coming from the engine. Well, not only did the noise come back, it got even worse! So, I went back the next day to find out what had happened, not accusing anyone, but I was met with disdain. The owner even raised his voice at me, thinking I was making accusations! I left with the suspension still making noise, and they had the audacity to charge me $2k to fix something that wasn't even there before I brought it to them! I had a few items I had been avoiding taking care of for a while in the car, then the console my radio is in stopped working, plus I needed an oil change anyway, so I decided it was time to find a mechanic. A coworker had recommended this place when I first moved to SD. He said it was a good honest no BS mechanic. Reminded of the good ones back east in NY/NJ, so I bookmarked it in Yelp in case I needed it. Now was the time. I called them and told them what I was looking for them to do with the car. One of the things I wanted for the car was a full check-up based on my car's mileage. They quoted the basics and let me know that the depending on the findings of the check-up the costs would go up from there. Which made sense to me. I dropped the car off on a Tuesday and they called me back a few hours with their assessment. Oh it needed a LOT of work. However the car is older and I expected that there were things wrong with it. Nothing truly surprised me. Ron walked me through each aspect one by one, gave me quotes for each one then a summary total. He also mentioned some things that he didn't suggest I do right now, but make sure I know that maybe in a year or so, these are the things to look out for. He made sure if I had any questions he could answer them. I asked about a few things and then gave my approval to start work on all by one item, which could have had a couple different solutions. They gave me an estimate on completion time as well although it would vary based on a part they needed. I ended up getting it back on Friday of that week. It's not a "pretty" looking shop like some of the franchise chain or dealership ones, but the people I dealt with there were awesome. Friendly, thorough, patient, and seemed really knowledgeable. Good follow up and although time will tell how the car fairs, I think they did a good job. I would definitely bring my car back to them. read more

I simply asked for an estimate on what I know is wrong with the car and got the third degree about how I dont know and should bring it in for a diagnosis. As someone who knows a bit (but not much) about my car and it's needs, there's a decent amount of trust that happens when I take my car into the shop for maintenance or repairs. Our car passed 60k miles recently and we wanted to get a 60k service to keep it in tip top shape. I was pretty stoked to find Ron's Auto Clinic on Yelp right down the street from my house so I could walk home while they kept my car. Every time I called someone answered the phone promptly, and provided clear communication and pricing information on what I was looking to have done. They easily made me an appointment and were helpful in providing info on how to find them, since they're in a weird spot - it's in an alley behind another building with a liquor store/restaurant/barber off University. They took my car on time, finished work in a few hours, called me to verify the price and what they found, and only addressed what really needed to be done at this time. It was honestly refreshing having someone be so straight with me on what our car needed now and what could be deferred for another time. On top of the good service and fair pricing, they called me a week later to make sure everything was going well. Top notch customer service. Don't hesitate to take your vehicle here, they're all great people and provide honest work at fair prices. EVERY time is a positive experience, including today with my Camry. They tell you what's up, what must be fixed, what can wait, and what shouldn't wait. And Ron's a freaking mensch. He replaced the back door handle on my car a few years ago, without charging me, because he said "if something happened to you, and your kids needed to get out, that handle has got to work. I had high hopes for this place because of their 5 star reviews and when I spoke to Ron on the phone he seemed like a nice guy. HOWEVER I was so upset with my experience. Firstly, I went in for an oil change and I was being charged for $158. (Those are usually ~$40). I had my guy friend call and they said "oops we charged you for labor twice." Which was definitely on purpose. So that was already annoying because I'm a young girl and I felt taken advantage of (it gets worst though). THEN they call me back and tell me a long list of things that are wrong with my car (image attached below) which adds up to over $1,000. They knew I was driving back home (6 hour drive) that day so they tried to scare me into fixing everything saying that if I drive, my alternator may catch on fire. I literally almost cried when they told me this because I don't have the money to fix all of those issues and I havnt seen my family since I moved to SD so I feared not being able to see them. When I called my dad and explained everything he said I was 100% being ripped off and to only get the oil change and we will take my car to a more trustworthy place to get things checked out. So at the end of the day my total came out to $86 for the oil change which is less than they originally priced but still about double what it should have been and it took my guy friend protecting me for it to get to that price. Long story short, if you are a girl, DO NOT GO HERE! You will get screwed over! I don't usually write negative yelp reviews so the fact that I'm writing this says a lot.
