My only complaint would be that I would of appreciated more information about charging me a credit card fee on my deposit. Although it was on the estimate, I must of missed it. It cost me an extra $355 for that mistake.

I first attempted to contact Advantage Roofing in October of 2021 for an estimate on a new roof. I…read morewas promised that someone would show up and provide an estimate in an email the following week or so but that never happened and I called the company back a few more times with no avail. I felt like they didn't want my business but my neighbors used them so I tried a few more times and finally got Jessie Cunningham and his side kick to show up for an inspection and provide me a proper quote. Here is the email I got from Jessie after he send me a quote: "Hello Trevor, I was just thinking about you and wanted to touch base with you to see if you or your wife had any questions and to see where you are in the decision making process for the roof project. I am here for you to be your project partner and want to do anything I can to make the project work for you. Let me know, Thank you" Pretty nice follow up. I was taking some time to talk to the wife about his $20k quote and thinking about it and replied with this: "$20k is way more than I thought this project would cost. I'm going to have to check around to see what others in my community paid and do some comparisons before I pull the trigger." To my surprise Jessie rudely responded: "No problem, that price is technically only good for 7 days anyway do to price increases. I understand wanting to check around for a cheap roofing company and I know we are not cheap so I am not offended if you can't afford us. I just wanted to stay in communication so I didn't leave you feeling like you weren't taken care of. I know you were persistent about getting a quote right away so I'm glad I could make that happen for you atleast. You should have no problem finding a cheap company cause there are many of them out there but please let me know if you need any assistance in the future." My response: "There are many things in life that I won't go cheap on and buying a new roof on my home is not one. I don't intent on going with a "cheap" company. Honestly I was going to use your company but after your insulting email I'm definitely not. Just because I have a budget in mind doesn't mean I'm too poor to afford your prices. And who the hell would want a "cheap" roofing company on a house in this neighborhood anyway? So sorry to waste your precious time coming out for a quote. I made the mistake and thought you were a honest and reputable company but clearly after your insulting email I was wrong. Do yourself a favor and take some courses in customer service. They waited until every shingle on the entire house was torn off to tell us we needed entirely new decking...another $9,000. Obviously, we were shocked and appalled, but we had no choice at that point. Not one single roofing company would have come out to take over. After the job was complete, there were roofing nails EVERYWHERE! We had to borrow a magnet and go over the property multiple times so our 4 year old didn't get a nail through the foot. Then, when rain or snow came, we had leaks around our chimney and bathroom vents...we still do because the owner is MIA and we are stuck trying to figure out how to resolve a problem they created. Don't be fooled by low prices or quick service to get things done. More than likely you are being duped into signing a contract that is not going to be honored.

Sometimes it's recommended to not go with the lowest bid, but we were very glad we did. He didn't hesitate to tell us up front that we might need new decking and what that cost would be. He not vented only along the ridge but nearer the gutters as well. He even replaced some bathroom vents which really improved the overall look. Because they replaced the decking the drip edge didn't function properly. When it was discovered they came out the same day and put a larger drip edge to fix at no additional cost. We give him a 5 of 5 stars!

I was not optimistic about the time frame for restoration or the process for putting our nightmare behind us. Van Dam was on the job the same day as the flood, brought in huge dehumidifiers and a zillion fans and had the entire basement demolishened and dry in no time. After working out a quote for the insurance company and us agreeing to the scope of the work, everything moved very fast. I was in construction for 20 years, and I know how a well-run job works. I've also found that it's rare! Van Dam, their employees, and their contractors were amazing to work with! Shane and Darrien, their carpenters, and general go to people, were very professional and did expert work. Rob, my project manager was always prompt to respond and to get things done. We had about 800 square feet of finished basement and from the time they started to its completion, it was only about a month. The renovation included replacing drywall, removing and replacing a subfloor, painting, baseboard, removal and reinstallation of bathroom fixtures and cabinets, carpet and plank flooring, They moved the furniture and put it all back when they were done. All in all, I am very thankful for the work Van Dam did for us and I would highly recommend them to all my family and friends.

His quote was $50 higher than the lowest quote I got - but Ben got the job because I liked him immediately when he came to do an in-person estimate - while the lower bidder gave me an estimate based on a "satellite picture" - not in person. That factor is important to me, as it should be to others. Ben told me he could make my deck (which I last cleaned 15 years ago) look like it was brand new as well - so he power washed that about 10 days ago. He was 100% correct - because my deck now looks absolutely amazing - just like brand new. His price on the deck job was very fair as well. Trust me folks - you can't (and won't) go wrong using Ben. And your bank account will thank you as well.
