I Was there with a group of friends Friday night. the owner of the bar was beyond intoxicated to the point where she was slurring her words. She was extremely rude to her own employees forcing them to pour shots that she kept taking after the bar was closed. She proceeded to call bouncers over to me to kick me out. In which the bouncers laughed at her and told me to just stay away from her. For the quesadillas & wine alone, I'd give this place 5stars! The were huge and full of chicken with veggies. Plus, the pour of wine was very hefty! & it was only about $6/7. There was live music and a lobsterpalooza going on in the rooftop, down below there was a traditional bar with all the big screens. It was a bit disappointing to find out that their downstairs bar and restaurant was closed. Their Website did not mention anything that only rooftop was open. Surprisingly the rooftop was pretty nice, but we came here for the foods we saw on the menu, and wanted to try out, which were not served on the rooftop menu. It would have been nice if they had incorporated few items from other menu. There wasn't much of a choise... I can eat hummus at home. Tried ordering other things, but they were out of them. Since it's a rooftop bar, this place needs to include more appetizers or small portions in their menu. read more

I placed an order directly on their webpage for $60. 40mins later, I get a call from grub hub saying the restaurant just called them to say they don't accept any grubhub orders. This used to be one of my favorite places in the summer. The last two times I was there I was told there were no servers so you needed to order at the bar. This was of course after sitting at a table in full view of the staff, no one came over to greet us or tell us this. Dropped in this bar, on Halloween, when my daughter was in a pinch for more chicken wings for her Halloween party. Ordered 40 boneless chicken wings. They came with a variety of sauces. Terrible service and organization. Our igloo was booked a few weeks ago, they somehow over booked it even though we had a $200 deposit on it. It took awhile for the bartenders to come to us, but 30 minutes for the manager. We had to ask 2 different bartenders then go and look for a manager to speak to her to find out what was going on and why we were standing around for 30 minutes and not in our igloo. No apology, no trying to make the situation right, offered our refund then questioned the deposit amount, so apparently you must also be cautious who gets charged how much for an igloo deposit. Be Cautious of the Waitresses and owners!!! ONLY PAY USING CASH. They're scummy and like to add additional tips to credit card slips. I went in and paid for one beer. It was $3.00 I tipped $2.00 so the total was $5.00 for my first round. My Second beer Was $3.00 and I tipped $3.00 totaling $6.00. Some nosy regular sitting at the bar chatting with the bartenders told me that I'm a cheap tipper. I ignored her comment. As I'm walking away from the bar with my second drink I see the bartender and customer writing all over my credit card slip. I angrily went back to the bar and asked the bartender If i can see my credit card slip to "change my tip" and coincidentally she didn't have the slip I just caught them writing on anymore. Instead she only had the slip from my first beer which was now totaling $7.00 because someone crossed out my $2.00 tip and turned that into a $4.00 as well. Do not pay using card at this place only cash they are grimey. I'm not the type to usually write reviews especially over 2-4 dollars yet if they do that to all of they're customers they're illegally making much more than they should be and I will be contacting the better business bureau sometime today since I was able to snag a few pictures of my changed receipt slips. i've been coming to rooftop tap for a couple of months now. Being up on the roof at night has been immaculate with good drinks and music. recently I visited the establishment and noticed that there was dead silence up on the rooftop. Me and my group of friends all agreed that with no music, there was not much of a upbeat atmosphere. When we asked our bartender about the music, she respectfully said that we are not allowed to have it on anymore past 10 PM. I have visited this bar two times now . one time last month and I was there yesterday. first time I went we had terrible service on the roof top, not sure what the issue was. I checked their online menu and tried to order bruschetta which the waitress told me they did not have and the menu and online menu are not the same . Went last night for drinks and food to give it another shot , drinks and food are good , decent pricing . Again service was not that good , I ordered the "ball park" which online says it's like deep fried Mac and cheese bites . what came to the table was mini burgers and hot dogs . Again the waitress told me the online menu is not right and even the actual menu at the resturant has things on the menu that they do not have. i told the waitress I would like two drinks she suddenly walked away and brought me back 2 drinks of what we had before which we did not ask for . If I could leave zero I would.. I'm all about giving places multiple chances. And I've done that here but after multiple horrible experiences I need to leave a review. First time there my friend and I were the ONLY ones there on a Wednesday afternoon for lunch. Literally it was us and the bartender . It took over an hour to get our food which we placed right away and that came out wrong , 30 min later came out again wrong and by the 3rd time it was right but we had to leave. I feel like if you're working in a restaurant atmosphere your staff ( waitresses, bartenders , cooks) should be educated about GLUTEN free. They are NOT what so ever. One bartender thought flour tortillas was gluten free when I said multiple times I need corn. Another waitress was telling me I couldn't get kabobs because PLAIN rice is gluten ( which it is not). I went for dinner we ordered an appetizer, chips and guacamole to snack on before dinner. We knew it would be quick and easy. We both ordered dinner one being steak . After a while we asked if we could get our guacamole as an app like we ordered. She said yes never followed up on getting it then the next thing our dinner and appetizer came all at the same time. We didn't want the guacamole because we didn't want the guacamole with his pasta and my steak kabobs. But it was too late we ordered it and had to pay so we didn't eat it because we didn't want it with our entrees. They have lunch specials they don't offer at night even for a higher price. I called today to ask if the rooftop was open because sometimes they don't open it till 5 pm. She said yes, I asked if I could get lunch special she said yes till 3. I got there at 2:50 ready to order. The bartender didn't come out of the bathroom till 3:02. I asked to place the taco lunch special and he said no it's 3:02 and it ended at 3:00 I said we were here but you were in bathroom the last 12 minutes and he said there's nothing he can do. Had he not been in the bathroom so long we could have ordered. The customer service , and knowledge of servers just makes it unpleasant. I've gone 4 times now and all horrible times. so finally I unfortunately had to write a review. I like leaving good reviews but I just don't enjoy this place at all. Tonight, a group of my friends and I from a college close by decided to get off campus for some beers and food. We never had a chance to order any drinks or food because Nicole confiscated our drivers licenses thinking that we had all brought in fake IDs because many of us were from out of state. The staff was condescending and I personally have never felt so violated. After she CONFISCATED our legal drivers licenses, she wanted us to return 2 DAYS LATER with 2 more forms of legal photo identification. They then proceeded to call the police who showed up and ran our drivers licenses proving that we were all over 21. We left the premise immediately. I will never return and will tell all college students at my college to bring their business elsewhere. If I could give them zero stars I would. I am appalled at the service and waste of time that this night was. read more

I have been going to Rooftop Tap for a while now, and the other evening I had stopped in with some family friends. A group of local students from Trinity had come in not too long after us and sat at the table next to us. I overheard the waitress request their ID's, walk away with them in her possession and return with the manager. Due to each of the students' being from out of state, a manager with pink highlights (I believe her name is Nichole) rudely requested that the students provide another form of photo ID such as a passport (are you kidding me? Who actually carries a passport with them?). When they explained they were students from out of state and attended Trinity, she stated that she found it "hard to believe" and told them that she would keep their ID's until they returned with another form of identification. As a restaurant owner myself, I was quite outraged with the management style and how they handled the situation. I had strolled down stairs to drop in on the situation - the police were called because the students refused to leave without their ID - I would have done the same. The cops showed up shortly after, ran their ID's through the system, and explained to management that they were valid forms of identification. I no longer consider myself a regular, and I am disappointed with what I saw in Rooftop Tap. You could have brought in a whole lot of traffic with a college campus located right behind you, but it seems like you have ruined your chances with this one. Myself and my family will no longer be returning, and I will be sure to inform my fellow network of restaurant owners to shy away from this bar. Again, as a restaurant owner, my recommendation is you either adjust your management style/protocols, get rid of that manager of yours, or try to buckle down on how you present yourself to your customers. People like myself, are always watching. What I witnessed was uncalled for, unnecessary, and unprofessional. Step up your game. read more

We decided to go there just to try out a rooftop that wasn't downtown Chicago. When we arrived there was a farmers market just closing down we purchased some cookies that were amazing. To enter the rooftop part you have to go around back there's ample parking which was a plus. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised the service was great, friendly,prompt courteous. The server was kind enough to ask if we wanted a umbrella to shade us and it made a difference in a big way "GREAT". Well we ordered and we over ordered had no idea of portion size go hungry or have a big appetite. Food was good again portions will fill you up. I was really excited to try this place. It was so beyond disappointing. We walked in, several employees looked us without so much as saying a word. So we sat ourselves and waited at least 10 minutes for a waitress. We ordered drinks and food. Drinks were super slow and the food took almost an hour to get. We ordered Fries and wings so it's not like it should have taken forever. I ordered buffalo wings. They come like fried chicken with no sauce. Then she said "oh yeah the sauce is on the side" ummm ok. The best part is the guy who brings the food to the table walks as slow as a snail wearing sunglasses inside. It was just a very odd place. I've been to Zach's On Tap several times now...like it better each time! Food is good, drinks are even better and service is always friendly and timely. The bartenders really hustle and aim to please. Plus, you can't beat their drink specials or the view from the rooftop. Went there with some friends looking for a nice bar to chill but that wasn't happening. We went to the rooftop they have some weird system where only certain beers are served on top and you have to go downstairs for the rest. Towards the top of of the rooftop, it smells like somebody urinated on the patio. Service was questionable. You'll get the greeting but don't expect much service, you literally have to find your server if you want food or any of the certain drinks on the patio. And they're cash only which is shocking cause most places credit card machines. The ATM they have doesn't work right and you're pretty much screwed. After taking the place of Sam Buca's I had big expectations for this place. The food is pretty good but service is slacking. Hopefully they get it together for the summer because they have the opportunity to be the best bar in town with that rooftop but right now they're dropping the ball big time. read more
