I went in here with my 6 year old son after shopping at Five Below. There was one other customer in the store and about 5 employees behind the counter. It's very unclear where to order. My son wanted a boxed chocolate milk. So I stood there with the chocolate milk in my hand for about 5 minutes. No one even acknowledged us. Not a "Hi, I'll be right with you" - nothing. Not even eye contact. There was one girl at the register and one employee making coffee. The rest of them were literally just standing there behind the counter. I told my son. "I'm sorry, they're not helping us. I'll get you a chocolate milk somewhere else." I put it back and we walked out. He was asking me questions and I reiterated to him that if that's how people are going to treat me, they don't deserve my time. This way he learns what's appropriate and what is intolerable behavior. I'm very disappointed in their customer service, and I probably won't be returning any time soon. Save your time and money and go to Starbucks! The coffee is good, very strong but taste is delicious. I really dislike making the trip to come here though (the Holmdel location) due to the fact that the staff is ALWAYS rude and so unwelcoming for no apparent reason. I'm assuming now that this is just the work culture inside of this shop but it's a shame. This was my first time trying this spot, so I asked the cashier for a recommendation and they were knowledgeable and helpful which is always great. If you're use to coffee with heavily sweetened syrups then this might not be the place for you. From my understanding the cold brew is infused with certain flavors but it is limited and subtle. My daughter ordered two iced coffees for us Saturday on my birthday. She Asked for light ice & milk for hers When I saw her coffee sitting at pick up area I honestly thought it was someone's half drunken coffee but it was hers that but literally looked less than 3/4 full. Mine was filled to the top , had pretty much the same amount of ice & mine actually had less milk, as it was darker in color. I asked the barista to please add some more coffee to my daughters & she said no because all iced coffees pre measured and had the same amount of coffee as mine. I understand the coffees should be pre measured but I do not believe this was done for her coffee at all. I've only been here a few times as I don't live in NJ but my best friend takes me here every time and I always have something delicious. The whole place is very clean when you enter and it smells so good. We bought a big jug of the New Orleans style to take home and it is so smooth and rich! This time I got the seasonal banana toffee flavor. Though it sounded strange, and it was, the banana flavor did come through on the back end. Toffee couldn't be tasted as much but I will admit that fun novelty brew flavors can be kind of hard to obtain. I wish the coffee shops near me had unique flavors like Rook! Somehow I had never tried rook coffee. Everyone knows the hype and I had been dying to take the famous cup in hand with the rook logo photo. Stopped in on my way to the jersey shore. I had a Bigger Mocha style with regular milk and no additional sweetener (iced). It was exactly what I needed. The mocha flavor was great but it's not sweet so if you usually take sure be sure to add a sweetener. Will definitely be back to try their hot coffee and other flavors! read more

The guy is dealing with so many tickets and inevitably forgets peoples names who are checking in to pick up app orders. My drink was sitting up on the counter for 10 minutes without this guy remembering that I checked in to pick it up. After recently moving closer to South Jersey, I kept hearing people RAVE about thIs Rook Coffee place. I figured it had to be good, but I thought it was probably going to be comparable to something like Starbucks. Boy, was I wrong! It's SOOOOO much better. Now don't get me wrong, I still enjoy Starbucks for some specialty drinks, but for actual quality and taste of coffee, Rook wins. I don't even know how to explain the deliciousness of the coffee they serve here. Whether it's hot or iced, I've never tasted anything short of yummy. It's smooth, sweet, and perfectly balanced. It also doesn't hurt that their prices extremely fair. Bottom line is, it's definitely good stuff. This is the only location I come to, as of now, but I'm looking forward to hopefully seeing some more of these pop up central and north Jersey. read more

I was in your typical NJ suburban strip mall for some post-Christmas shopping and needing a caffeine pick-me up, Rook Coffee thankfully obliged. Walking in the space is very roomy and quite bright from ambient sunlight. This location is take-out only as there was no seating inside, and though I noticed some outdoor tables and chairs, I believe they're property of the adjacent bagel/deli. The coffee menu is very intuitive and simple to decipher, which is not the case in many artisanal coffee shops/cafes. - The first option is the size of the coffee you want: Regular, Large, and per pound. - Secondly, you select the type of coffee you want which is categorized by the roast strength of the coffee (i.e. mild, medium, and dark). - Finally specials are at the bottom of the menu. Along the counter were take-home coffee packs, and various snacks and pastries like Danishes, croissants, muffins, and granola bars. My selection was a regular, mild roast Etihopian blend, and it was excellent. Flavor was indeed mild and quite pleasing offering a lot of graham cracker like flavor as noted on the menu. A big fan of Rook in general! Their coffees have a smooth rich flavor that gets me every time! This is my first time at this location. Like all Rooks it has the section of shirts, cups, magnets, ect, and this place is no different! I like the layout of the location, has a nice flow. It is easy to figure out where the line starts, where you order, and where you pay. It was close to closing, around 4:45pm and I was not expecting much in the line of service. I really just wanted, maybe needed my bigger iced pumpkin style coffee with almond milk, so I ordered two. The guy who took my order smiled, was very friendly and did not have that "I cannot believe you walked in 15 minutes to closing" look that I am sometimes used to. I really try not to be that guy, but I was exhausted from working all day and needed my Rook!
