I've been living in Austin for the past 6 years and just moved back to Temple. My boyfriend and I were craving Indian food and used yelp to find the best place, the reviews did not disappoint! The food, service, and atmosphere was AMAZING. It was very quiet, which I like and the place is decorated very nice. CLEAN restrooms. Very good, very tasty, very authentic. One of the few restaurants in Temple that actually plays background music that is appropriate to the cuisine's culture, making for an atmospheric experience. YUMMY! I admit to being an Indian food novice but I thoroughly enjoyed my meal, as did my husband. He had Butter Chicken and I had Fish Tikka. He said the chicken was very tender and the medium spice just right for him. The spice on the fish created a nice crust of flavor around the moist fish fillets. The vegetable rice was scrumptious. We saved room for dessert: The rice pudding was fresh and tasty but the pistachio cardamom cheesecake-OMG We will be back to try different things AND more cheesecake. read more

I cannot believe I haven't reviewed Roopa's on Yelp yet!! I eat here once or twice a week, and have been for over a year (back when Roopa was at the first location). Her food is TERRIFIC!! Always fresh, always incredibly tasty meals, and yes, I order the delicious "spicy" versions of everything, which will clear your sinuses, and make you happy. I really enjoy several dishes, including the palak paneer, the chicken tikka, the fish tikka, the chicken biryani...and on and on. The portions are large and satisfying, and whenever I do eat in, I never fail to request a "to go" box. read more

Excellent food and service. Atmosphere is quiet and interior decor is eclectic without being overly garish. My date had the ginger chicken and I had the fish pakora, both of which tasted amazing. Fish batter was nice and crispy...hard to do right with fish. The lemon rice had a combined soft and crunchy texture with whole seasonings in the dish and paired well with a nice Chilean chardonnay. Portions are large enough to take a box home, without eating leftovers for 3 days. The Indian tea is a great finish to a meal - the sweetness of the tea helps drown the spicy aftertaste. In and out in just under an hour on a Friday night with great food means we'll be back often. read more

I brought my family in from out of town (Waco to be exact) for dinner on a early Saturday evening. We were seated fairly quickly; however, the service was absolutely terrible -- wait for it, as this was just the beginning of our dinner "nightmare"!!!! Waiter, Sanjay approached us about 5 minutes after we were initially seated. We placed an order for appetizers for our children and informed the waiter that our children would only eat "mild" foods and to make sure the appetizers were made "mild". Unfortunately, he did not pay attention and brought out extremely spicy appetizers. Next issue was we had ordered dinner and it came out w/ "burnt" naan. We advised him to take it back and please have their kitchen remake all the naan. The waiter informed us that there would be a 30 to 40 minute wait due to other customers present????? Rest of our dinner was not made as it should have been and had to be remade which of course took another 30 to 40 minutes. Naan came out and sat on the table cold as we had nothing to eat it w/ b/c we we waiting for other dishes to come out. At the end of this very awful experience, we had to take the main dish to "go". We were very respectful and left peacefully knowing we would never return nor recommend this place to anyone! Patrons that don't really understand "Indian cuisine" may think the food is ok; however, for folks like us (we are Indian) that eat Indian food quite often will tell you this food was absolutely terrible and to be honest advertised in a "deceptive" manner. Trust me when we say this, "this is not authentic Indian food". I usually never post "harsh" reviews but believe me when I say this place needs either new management or someone needs to open up a more "ethical/honest" Indian restaurant! It would have helped if someone would have came out to talk to us during our horrible experience but they absolutely had no sympathy nor came to talk to us! I wasn't concerned about the charges but paying 70+ dollars for a terrible experience would have at least warranted some concern from management or the owner (which I believe was present during our visit). I'm sorry to post this review but honesty is something we never hide from!!!!! We hope this business survives but if they practice in this manner every day then they will lose many patrons/clients! I/we are baffled by the positive reviews as they absolutely make no sense! I'm thinking b/c it's probably the only Indian restaurant in Central TX as opposed to the one in downtown Waco. Someone please show these folks how "Tikka" sauce needs to be made w/ the right flavor and color!!!! read more

Lunch was wonderful. The cuisine was authentic with delicious Indian recipes and spices. The service was warm, friendly, helpful and prompt. After we ordered our lunch, the food came in just a few minutes, plated with beautiful presentation and steaming rising from the dishes. We have enjoyed this experience and will return. read more

Driving through Temple yesterday and found this place on Yelp. We enjoyed an amazing lunch. The butter chicken was exceptionally good.

Terrible service. I forgot my food there and less than an hour later when I called they had already thrown it away. He could have just kept the box aside in case I came back for it, but no. Then he didn't even offer to make it right. My colleague also got burned naan there and when he asked for a replacement, they gave him a hard time about it. Terrible customer service. Quality is good, quantity for what they are charging is worthless, coming to taste breakfast is good and biryani,curry chicken on scale of 10 I can give rating 2, spinach paratha good. This visit is my first, but it certainly won't be my last. The wonderful aromas hit you in the face when you open the door. The restaurant is casual and inviting. It was difficult to choose just one entree from the menu. I finally settled on one of the chef's specials for my entree--Ginger Chicken accompanied by a mint chutney and a side of cucumber salad. I prefer to have bread instead of rice with my protein, so I ordered some garlic naan. For a beverage, i chose the spiced Indian tea (chai). Chai is one of my favorite teas, and this spiced tea is delicious. It was only slightly sweet which is the way I prefer my chai. The Ginger Chicken is wonderfully spiced and perfectly cooked while cucumber salad is refreshing. The salad is the perfect side for the spicy meat. The naan is hot and fresh. I also got a piece of the mango cheesecake to go. It is wonderful as well. I didn't give the restaurant 5 stars because service is a little slow at times, but the food is well worth the wait. im a postal carrier and as such im all over temple and tend to try everything, i noticed roopas kitchen while working and decided when i had a moment i had to try it. today was the day i tried it and let me tell you, this was my wife and my first experience with indian food and it was phenominal. we had the garlic naan, gobi 65 which is a fried cauliflower appetizer and i ordered the chicken curry and she ordered the chicken tikka masala. all the dished were amazing beautiful presentation and amazingly full of flavor. the staff was extremely helpful and kind even going to far as to remake my wifes order, not that there was anything wrong with it, as i said it was our first indian experiance and werent prepared for the level of spicy that there is when you tell them spicy, which we did. after sometime of my wife struggling to eat it the server offered to have the kitchen remake it for her so it would be better for her, this is fantastic customer service that it was offered impresses me. i give roopas 5 stars and if icould give it more stars i would the food was fantastic the service was amazing and the settings were so orderly and neet i cannot wait to go back (i also forgot to mention the pricing was very reasonable i leave that for last because to me when you want good food cost is the least important factor but in this case it was very good food for quite cheap) ps only word of warning unless you are accoustomed to indian cuisine (as i admitedly was not) either stick with the mild or at most the medium heat items because the spicy is hot in a way i cant begin to describe, amazingly delicious but soooooo hot. read more
