    French toast
    Kristen L.

We were excited to find an American owned establishment that serves mainly eggs and protein. We couldn't pass up the French toast, which was amazing, we had the meat lovers omelette, and the eggs. The mocha and latte were fabulous as well. A+ will definitely come here again.

Sometimes when you are in a beautiful city you just have to have a little taste of home. My daughter who has been studying in Europe for 5 months suggested to go to a place called The rooster Cafe. This place is located in Florence Italy and has a sister restaurant called The rooster restaurant. The cafe is smaller. The cafes located down and Allie and you simply wait outside the owner will come outside ask you how many people are in your party and we'll see you according to the available tables and the number of people so just because you're first in line doesn't mean you get sat next. It can hold maybe 20 people tops and four people at the bar. It is a breakfast and lunch place and that's exactly what we were there for was breakfast. My daughter ordered a traditional English breakfast which comes with baked bean and corn on the cob. I ordered your traditional eggs bacon and potatoes the bacon is not like American bacon it is truly British bacon it's like a piece of ham that's halfway cooked but it's still delicious don't get me wrong. Of course they make fantastic cappuccino and don't even bother asking for American coffee they'll give it to you but you won't like the look that you get! If you can deal with the weight we did wait about 20 minutes for our table which is no big deal the weather was fine and you could explore which was nice. Lots of students and tourists were in the area but fortunately since this place is out of the way a little more than others it was not bad. The only major gripe was because we sat by the door there was no breezeway and the cold air went right down your back. Otherwise perfect 10 out of 10 will go again

We just had the best breakfast here since we arrived in Florence a month ago! It was arguably the best breakfast I have had anywhere! Sure, the Rooster Cafe caters to Americans but it was comforting to have a taste of home. This place is small but very cute. We sat at the bar which were the only seats available. But this worked out well for us because we could chat to the nice guy working the drinks and we could see the cooks in action. My husband and I shared a couple dishes. I ordered the Florentine Benedict (2 poached eggs, english muffin, sautéed spinach, smoked salmon, hollandaise sauce, roasted potatoes) and it was outstanding! The eggs in Italy are different (better) than back home- the yolks are a deeper golden color and "rich" tasting. And the potatoes were very creamy on the inside! So yummy! My husband had the Bella Blueberry Pancakes and they, too, were delicious! Other positives: free WiFi, free water, free bathroom. We will be coming back soon!

Walked to the Rooster Cafe from our hotel. They could seat 20 at the tables and six at the counter. We waited 5 mins and then sat at the counter. My wife, who doesn't eat much, got a cup of decaf, hash browns and sausage, while I got a rooster special (smoothie) and the Hash. It all came to $30 euros. Our drinks arrived promptly and breakfast in another 10 mins. The Hash was huge, but very good. It was a pile of eggs, with spinach, bacon and onions smothered in cheese. I couldn't finish it. We will be back tomorrow.

Good food, good service old school hospitality very nice. refreshing and a nice place to just simply re-energise.

    Florentine Benedict - delicious!

I had a Florentine Benedict which was excellent. My son had the English breakfast which he said was just ok. The Rooster shake special was excellent and coffee was ok. The waitstaff was bit harried but he was totally fine. It's a cute place. Unless you crave an American type breakfast I'm not sure I'd stand in line again and wait.

Great food and drinks! Big menu, friendly staff, and fabulous iced coffee. Cute decor as well inside. Overall a great spot! Both locals and tourists inside.

If you are looking for a hearty and light meals that is outstanding, this is the place. Highly recommend their French toast special and avocado toast. Excellent customer service. Flavor and presentation are five star.

French toast with fruit on top. A couple of slices of bacon. I had a strawberry banana smoothie. Our server was amazing. Very friendly. We all loved our breakfast. The restaurant is adorable and very clean.

Tiny restaurant, worth the wait outside. Staff was attentive, and the menu was elective enough to accommodate us both. Excellent!

First time in Florence, this is your best breakfast you boast about back home. The stoner version of chicken and waffles is enough for two and the coffee is to die for. They have quick service so the line shouldn't deter you from sticking around. The open kitchen shows you they take their food serious and it comes out perfect. Five stars

This was one of the worst breakfast experiences I have had since being in Florence. We waited 45 minutes to be sat for a group of 4 due to the lack of seating they have. Then we waited another 30-45 minutes for someone to take our order and we ended up having to flag someone down and beg to take our order. Our food came out wrong and my family enjoyed their food, but my was terrible. There was one person working and he was very nice. He is not to blame the owners are. Will not be returning. Go to Melaleuca instead.

A lovely American waitress came over and helped me.(I'm not saying she's lovely because she's American, she just was really friendly) She explained that the cook makes all the poached eggs in one big pot and can't specialize one for a customer. She said they could fry it medium well and that worked for me. The other waitress offered to fry the egg or scramble it but she just wasn't friendly, and she didn't give me all the choices of how I could get the egg fried. That really helped me make my choice. The egg's Benedict came with American pork bacon and not Canadian bacon. The hollandaise sauce was deliciousness, but they give you such a small amount. They need to double it. Another reviewer mentioned how good the green hot sauce was, so I tried it. It was spot on great!! I made sure every bite had the green sauce on it. I usually only like shredded hash browns but their breakfast potatoes were perfect. They weren't hard and had a good flavor. The restaurant was clean but very small. It had a nice relaxing feel. I love to try the food of the country I'm visiting, but after traveling for two weeks it was nice to have something I eat at home. The eggs Benedict was a treat. I had the hot amaretto coffee drink and that just hit the spot and made the waiting to be seated all worth it. The had many types of milk you can put in your coffee, for example, they have soy milk, oat milk, etc. I would definitely recommend this place and come back. Oh and the less than friendly waitress served my food to me with a smile, but she never smiled again and never accepted my thank you's no matter how much I said them. Word of advice don't have a sad face if they can't provide something the way you want it if the waitress is blond and Italian. That will not go over well. You're not allowed to be quietly disappointed.

From the outside, it looks like a grand, iron-and-glass structure typical of European markets; inside, it opens into a bustling, multi-level space filled with food vendors, communal tables, and constant movement. The vibe is energetic, social, and slightly chaotic in a fun way - perfect for grazing, group dining, or trying multiple cuisines in one visit (from Italian to American to Mexican!). We stopped in for a quick lunch at around 2pm on a Wednesday; there was plenty of seating at high-top tables, and QR codes on paper menus make it easy to explore all the different food vendor options. It's also a fun activity to peruse the market, taking in different sights, smells, and flavors. All of us ended up opting for Schiacciatas (large Italian sandwiches that are a staple in Florence) from Massimiliano Parri, which all ended up ranging from €10-12, depending on toppings - yes, it's more expensive than what you'd get from a traditional schiacciateria, but you're also paying for the market's location and convenience. We appreciated the fact that they shave the meat right in front of you! My schiacciata came with freshly shaved ham atop crusty white bread, slathered with burrata cheese, and sprinkled with arugula and figs (I opted for no additional olive oil, since I found the ham quite rich already). I loved the contrast of textures and flavors, though I will say that the bread ended up cutting the roof of my mouth! All in all, Mercato Centrale is a bit touristy, but still miles better (and cheaper) than most "Italian" sandwich places you'd find in the US (pro tip: save your receipt for free use of their bathrooms). The variety can't be beaten, prices are reasonable for a central market, and it's steps from some of Florence's most iconic spots.

American/Aussie owned bakery brunch spot by the river, such a cute little eatery. We loved our visit and though it's definitely more of a touristy spot, as most customers spoke English, the food was delicious to forgo the tourist trappy vibes. We shared a plate and added some items as we didn't want to get too stuffed on our first day of Florence. We had the Nduja Eggs plate with bacon and avocado added. Nduja is a spicy Calabrian pepper spreadable pork sauce, and oh boy was it so flavorful. If I remembered correctly, Melaleuca spread this sauce on top of a fried bread and eggs. I don't see it on the menu at the moment and it's probably a rotatable dish... but it definitely kicked started my hunt for the sauce. Since this is a spreadable pork, it's not something I could bring back to the US but I was able to find it online back home. The service was amazing and the beverages were delicious. Like many Italian places, the dining room is small and bathroom is a single small room that might require a small wait if they're busy. Didn't get to try their baked goods this last time, but definitely on our list to go back for more when we're back to Florence for a visit.

I stopped by Gilli for the first time around 9pm on a Sunday night. The place stayed open night, which was very convenient especially since we've been having late dinners. Ordering was interesting. You don't pay at the counter but rather at the corner register for everything to-go. On one of the nights when we grabbed a couple of drinks at Gilli, the server loaded my desserts order on a card that I redeemed to my waiter. Then my desserts were served to me a few moments later. So I had tried ricciarelli at another pasticceria down the street, but Gilli's were far more superior. The almond flavor was more prominent, the texture was much softer, and the powdered sugar wasn't broken. Loved it so much that I got boxes of it for myself and loved ones. I had the pleasure of trying all their "mignons" (mignardises) and was particularly fond of the lemon with pistachios, chocolate passion fruit, and coconut chocolate ones.
