Our visit was on 9 June 2025 I dined with four adults, and we all loved our food. Ordering the food was quick and efficient, and the cost was reasonable. All of the food arrived hot and delicious at the same time. The Root Cellar is under new management, and the wife and husband team are charming. They came and introduced themselves and talked about their goals to grow a larger customer base. We definitely will return. Finally, the hostess and our waitress were fantastic. My wife, daughter and her family just returned from dinner and they loved it! I unfortunately was home with a bad cold. They loved the salad bar and fish fry and we'll go back next week when my cold is over hopefully. We stopped at root cellar on 2-1 at 12pm. The front door wasn't even unlocked, kitchen wasn't open. They allowed people to come in and sit. We have been here 2 hours, soda hasn't been refilled, orders aren't correct, and the waitress proceeded to argue with us. DO NOT COME HERE! read more

The frozen burger patty was cooked until a perfect dry unflavorful $12 dollar lump of shit. The warm fountain pop in your drink is awesome. The glasses they have had for 28 years are great too. Stopped here for dinner with my family, been coming here for 30 years... owners have a For Sale sign up and it's obvious that the guy who owns it wants out badly, because no one should talk to customers the way he does, especially since young children were around. My Dad, b/f, and myself (obviously) were headed up to the UP for a memorial for a family member... now if you are familiar with the Yoop you know there aren't many...nicer...places to stay. And by that I mean not a hunting cabin or the Bates Motel. After some looking I stumbled upon this little gem. We needed to be close to Ewen and this place fit the bill. I had wanted to book their whirlpool suite but it was taken :( So I booked a 2 bedroom suite for my Dad and also one for the b/f and I. Only because it was the same price as a single bed suite...so why not. (Summer prices are cheap!) Rooms were large, clean, and comfortable. We had a room on the second floor with a private deck that overlooked the grounds and the millions of deer that live in the UP. OH! One important factoid... the stairs going up to the second floor rooms are HORRIBLE. Metal grates that obviously don't hold onto salt - so you are basically walking up stairs made of ice. The railing too. Try walking up that drunk... yeesh. Anyways, the rooms are fantastic. Our heater made an absolute ton of noise so the second night we stayed in the second bedroom and closed the door and it was fine. They also have an onsite restaurant that is open on the weekends during the summer. Blew me away. If this review were just for the restaurant I'd give it 5 stars. We had a few bottles of wine to start. Also cheese curds cause we are from Wisconsin... Delish. We all also got chicken and rice soup which blew all other soups I have ever had out of the water. My dad is a chef and he RAVED about it. I ordered the walleye, pan fried and boston baked potato. The walleye was huge, tender, needed some salt but it was delicious. The potato was the same. I also ordered a side of deep fried frog legs...why not right? FANTASTIC. My Dad ordered their ribeye and it was one of the best steaks he has had. I was envious of his taste buds! I tried the steak...amazeballs. The b/f had the fish fry, it again was great. The batter wasn't as crispy as he would have liked but the fish was incredible and the seasonings were spot on. If you need a clean, affordable place to stay - you have to stay here. Nothing else compares to this. And you MUST eat here. Even if you don't stay at the hotel. EAT THIS FOOD!!!!!! read more

This rating is for the restaurant. Comfortable North Woods decor with decent food proximate to Lake Gogebic. The Walleye was delicious. It was lightly sauteed in a nicely seasoned breading. Salad bar was decent with a nice selection of toppings. Dinner rolls were light and slightly sweet. Wine List could definitely be improved with selections other than the usual Kendall Jackson. This is from the viewpoint of an avid winter snomobiler...... First time staying here for our first winter 2011 sledding trip. We had a group of four total in two connecting rooms. They have recently built new buildings like little hotels which were very nice. Clean, good working showers, flat screen HD TV's and nice beds. They had a restaurant on site which was real good with all sorts of the typical northwoods stuff. Fish fry, prime rib, burgers etc. We had the prime rib twice and it was fantastic. Nice little bar in the restaurant to sit in and have a few to finish your day of riding. They have a gas pump on site which is great to have and they are located on the southeast corner of Lake Gogegic. You can access trail 13 from the place or dump right down onto the big lake and go where you like. The people seemed nice and we got a winter special of half priced rooms starting on Sunday. I'd go here again for sure. read more

Beautiful, clean, reasonable and relaxing. My husband and I stayed at the Inn on Oct 23 and 24. It is the off season, no one around and the resturaunt closed on Sunday and Monday (understandable). The room was spotless and had everything we needed including coffee!! Great location for waterfall hunting and a nice day trip to the porkies. read more

Have made several trips to this place. Always stop when I'm in the area fishing. Great prime rib and fish fry. The cabins are great to rent for a group (for a fishing or hunting excursion). Nice fish cleaning station (and you can even clean up pretty good on walleye right from the dock). Summer rates are pretty cheap, so it's hard to not stay there! The owners (Rick and Jane) do a great job making you feel welcome. read more

My wife and I went to the UP this summer. I had the fish fry and the fish was excellent. The batter was light and crispy. My wife had a hamburger and she said it was very good. The service was excellent. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. We liked it so much that we actually went back there for another dinner. I had the prime rib that time and it was some of the best prime rib I've had. I live in the Dallas area and we have a lot of steak houses here so that is saying a lot! read more

stay away!!!!! the most rude owners ever!! arrived 15!! minutes late at 10:15 for check out on a wednsday morning because we were stuck in hurley. got up early and rushed back to find all belongings to have been bagged up and removed from rooms!!! i can understand hour and 15 minutes late but 15 minutes late and to touch my personal belongings...we even stayed to eat because we didn't stop to get back quickly as possible and bought there gas and.......was told we were not welcomed back!!!!!!!!! i am denying my cc charges and will definitely let everyone i know to not ever ever ever give a penny to these unsympathetic owners (woudlnt even let us shower or use the restroom in the rooms we had)!!! read more
