This place was excellent! Beautiful restaurant. Parking was a little wonky and I didn't find the valet. It's plenty of street parking available! The food was delicious! Beautiful place and the food was divine! The grits were my favorite! The brunch is $20 ish plus which is pricey for Birmingham but well worth it! Service was friendly and on point. The drinks were also good too.

Tasty food, great ambience, friendly service. Celebrated a "say yes to the dress" moment for brunch with my girl and some of her tribe! We brought our own fun and took plenty of pictures. Our party ordered shrimp and grits, chicken and waffles, stuffed French toast, R&R Gumbo, and the classic breakfast. No complaints from anyone. Large portion sizes so many of us didn't finish our meal! Stuffed! Cocktails were on point too! I had the Basic B. It was yummy and only one was needed! Two of my girlfriends had the blueberry mojito and they enjoyed it! Service was a little slow but since we were having such a great time, it wasn't much of a problem. Seemed like they may have been a bit overwhelmed because I saw three people working and there were three large parties (7+) there along with several other people. Regardless, we had a great time!

Pretty cool place. It is on the second floor. I recommend making reservations since it's pretty popular. We came for brunch and even though there were plenty of tables open inside, none were available so we had to sit outside. It was pretty hot. They did seem to be a little disorganized and seemed to have trouble even getting us the outside table. We got mimosas in a variety of flavors. We all enjoyed them. The wait for the food was about 45 minutes which was too long, frankly. Like I said, it was hot and I was getting cranky. I ordered the chicken and waffles which were good but nothing to write home about. Hubby got the stuffed French toast and he really liked it. The kid got the traditional breakfast and she said it was good. I tried her grits and they were really good. I would come back here again but would definitely make a reservation and maybe come for dinner. The place is kind of fancy so we did feel a little under dressed. If I was coming for dinner, I would dress a little nicer.

I've heard good& not so good reviews of this place but I am always going to try it for myself. The restaurant is aesthetically pleasing for sure! I attended a birthday party here recently. Our server was delightful, although some of our party was extremely late. I ordered the Caesar salad with chicken and 2 drinks. The salad / chicken were great and so were the drinks. No other complaints on the food by the remainder of the party. Would I agree with the price point? Meh lol When it came time to "cut the cake" (we had cupcakes) our server had to inform us it was going to be a $25 cutting cake fee. This is not unheard of so I was not surprised but once we informed our server it was cupcakes she said even then there would still be a fee. We ultimately decided to unveil and sing to our friend in the lobby prior to leaving for the night. Even shared with valet because he was super nice! Would I dine again? Possibly Would I recommend? Possibly with a disclaimer

The food was good. But I had asked everyone to please consider our time frame as we had a rehearsal to get to. I tried to order things immediately and the waitress kept saying they are coming. It made us have to adjust our tight schedule. It was bad luck I suppose as she had said two groups had cancelled and showed up anyway but the entire experience took hours and when I'd ask for something it wouldn't happen for a very long time. I felt we were not a priority and ignored :/ otherwise the food was very good.

The restaurant is on the second floor of the Jefferson Tower building. They have free valet parking (as of 11/2021). I highly recommend what I ordered for brunch: The cheesecake stuffed French toast. It's baguette bread stuffed w/pure perfection. The banana pecan beignets were also really good. The fried okra was not pickled but decent. The grits weren't special. They have good coffee. My friend's biscuit looked so good - it was massive. So why only 3 stars?? The service was very slow, my food came after everyone finished eating (I was in a party of 11). They removed the charge.. I did appreciate their willingness to make that right. Took 20 mins for a coffee refill. They gave us a very hard time about separating the checks bc we were a party over 6 people!? After haggling back and forth they did separate the checks. ** I mean who assumes a party of 11 is on the same ticket?? ** Please check out the pictures on Yelp of the food before you order. 2 men in our party ordered the omelette dishes... I felt so bad for them bc it was so small almost tiny. There's no way they left full. And it's not cheap! My friend said the shrimp and grits was good and recommendable.

This place is a perfect spot for a nice date or to catch up with some friends. The building is historic so if you appreciate architecture; you would love it. Parking is on the street or there is a parking lot that you can pay for. The service was great. We were treated immediately by the waitress and the manager frequently visited are table just to check in. We ordered the bottle of champagne and juice for $22 (not bad at all) I wanted to order the duck hash but I was informed they weren't serving it that day (bummer!) However, I ended up ordering the biscuits and gravy and my husband ordered the banana pecan beignets. The biscuits were huge and soft and fully. The Italian sausage gravy was flavorful and an elegant take on a southern classic. The beignets....are delicious!!! Even though, they looked as if they would be heavy. I was quite surprised to find them to be light and fluffy and PACKED with FLAVOR!

We had reservations thru open table for my husbands 50th last night. Found this not upon arrival

Me and my husband came in for dinner and had the absolute best time. The atmosphere is upscale and the artwork is really beautiful. I loved the high ceilings. The music was perfect because it wasn't too loud but actually made it so we weren't bothered by other people having conversations. Ok now the food was fantastic and the chicken bruschetta was HUGE! Honestly could have been an entre it was so filling. Salmon was cooked well and the sauce on it was delicious. Plus the Arancini was soooo good with the mozzarella and the marinara! The servers were super on top of everything, especially Kathleen!

Food was great. Service was great. Nice atmosphere. Will be back for brunch or dinner again. Only gave it a 4 because they were out of the entree I wanted.

Only giving 3 stars because our server Megan was amazing. We really wanted to like this place. We ordered two appetizers;the fried green tomato caprese which was lovely and the fried Okra. The okra was okay but shouldn't be paired with the marinara sauce. I heard another table order ranch with It and heard that was usually the consensus. maybe a menu change would reflect how people generally feel. For dinner we ordered the pork belly & scallops and the filet mignon. My partner said the scallops were wonderful but they were sitting on a bed of basically uncooked beans. The beans were hard and could not even be poked through. The pork belly was nicely cooked but came with what tasted like store bought BBQ sauce, and did not pair well with the celeriac purée underneath. My filet was sad. Being so gristly, we returned It and got a new steak. the second one wasn't gristly but had absolutely no flavor. no spices no salt, nothing but a slab of meat. we were informed the chef was new and just "put It on there." maybe the chef is not ready to be in a restaurant that charges $60 for a filet. Again, megan was absolutely amazing and made our trip to the restaurant alright. I would not recommend this place to anyone, nor did I think the $130 we still did spend was worth It. Could've gotten a better dining experience at outback.

RESTAURANT THE SPOT Roots & Revelry 1623 2nd Ave N, Birmingham, AL 35203 My Order Chicken & Waffles (Buttermilk Breaded Chicken, Ginger and Lemongrass Syrup) *added bacon and eggs* Let's talk about it!! So this wasn't my first rodeo with Roots & Revelry but I went with some friends last weekend and decided to do a review this time around. In my opinion, most people go here for the mimosas. On weekends you get a champagne bottle for $22 with whichever flavor juice you want. I ordered the chicken and waffles for my meal this time and I will not do that again. The waffle was missing something and just didn't do what it needed to do. The chicken tenders were delicious though! Whew. The bacon bussed down as usual. Can't go wrong with connecuh bacon. Now the eggs were good but I was upset because it was $8.00 to add on a side of TWO EGGS... yes T W O. I don't know what these restaurants have going on lately but I'm going to need them to get it together. I could've went and got a whole carton of eggs for that price..... #dobetter Overall, the ambiance and mimosas are what keeps the people going to Miss Roots because other than that, nah. But as always, check them out and be sure to let me know what you think! Be sure to tell them #VictheCrit sent you! https://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=oHMOxoVT-HmY2ZDJXoAcvA&utm_source=ishare https://goo.gl/maps/b5EmjYrPQTMbvkF79

For a restaurant at this price point, the service was inexcusable. Our server, Chris, failed to take everyone's drink and appetizer orders before walking away from the table. We were a party of eight -- large, but hardly unmanageable. When appetizers arrived, he made no effort to confirm that every guest received their items. One of our guests had to physically track him down to report missing dishes. The food issues were just as bad. The birthday girl ordered a steak -- nearly $90 -- and it came out overcooked to the point of being burned. It had to be sent back and remade. That is simply not acceptable at this level. Another guest ordered the Lobster Pasta, which was under-seasoned, watery, and so overwhelmingly lemony it was nearly inedible. She flagged it to Chris, who took it back -- then had the audacity to include it on the final check and accuse her of eating it. It was offensive. When we raised these concerns, the manager on duty, Marshall, was condescending and dismissive rather than apologetic or solution-oriented. Our table spent roughly $1,000 that evening and left feeling disrespected. Birmingham has grown into a serious food city with high standards and plenty of options. With food and service like this, Lapeer will find it very difficult to compete.

My wife determined that the local botanical garden opened by 7 a.m. (!) and was also free, so we opted to stop here before the museum opened later at 10 a.m. We made it here by around 7:30 a.m. A word of caution - the highway interchange nearby was nightmarish. We missed 2 turns (even with a navigation app running). I don't think it was just me. So be careful and add a few extra minutes to get lost. Once finally off they highway and through the final roundabout, we proceeded along a road bordering the gardens. On the other side appeared to be an expensive hotel and an upscale shopping / dining plaza. The garden was having some sort of plant sale, and crowds were apparently expected. They had traffic control cones in place, but we arrived early enough so that parking was still plentiful. When we left, it seemed like the lot had mostly filled up. The gardens are quite large. They are divided up into sub-areas and there is a large map posted about 100 yards inside the main gate. No paper maps were on offer, so I guess you can take a photo of theirs and use that. We first strolled to the Japanese Garden. We had this to ourselves until almost when we left. This area is quite large by itself. They have koi ponds, a tea house, etc. It was nice. We took an alternate path back to the map pavilion. From there, we explored other areas (mostly dedicated to specific flowers). Some of the terrain is hilly. We routed through the vegetable garden and eventually ended up back at the central formal rose garden. This was being watered periodically that morning and some of the brick paths in it were flooded. They seemed to have some satellite restrooms in remote areas, in addition to the main set near the gate. While it's still a little early in spring for everything to be in full bloom, there were still plenty of gorgeous floral displays to enjoy. Some of the trail directions can be a bit confusing at times, and we did end up wandering off course once or twice. That said, it was never difficult to find our way back to the main trail and continue exploring. Weird! The Dia de los Muertos altars are all beautiful too. Each person who passed away represented a universe contained within the beings that they were.. the altars had items that they had enjoyed in life, photos, paintings, letters, favorite coffee cups from which they drank only to mention a few. The vigillette candles are glowing and lighting up the way that was each life which was lost. I just popped into town and did not have the chance to set up an altar, but I did light my own candle and set it in a special place to commemorate those who I have lost. The red glowing sparks from the open bonfires there went into the night sky and burned out into infinity much like the lives that were being commemorated. So long momma. You are remembered and loved. A candle here burns for you this night as well. Thank you for being such a wonderful mother. I miss you now and everyday of my life.. I will think of you. Maybe now from where you are you see things with new eyes and vision and I hope you understand me more now than ever and that it gives you peace. I am well. Your grandson is well. I hope you see us now whenever you want and the distance no longer confines you. I love you now and always.
