East West is seriously one of my favorite spots in Birmingham! I literally come here at least once a month, and it's always a go-to whenever I have friends or family visiting from out of town. If you're not from Bham, this is definitely a place I recommend adding to your list! It's perfect for a date night, girls' night, or really any occasion. The prices are reasonable, the drinks are good, and the food never disappoints. I always get the East West Wings, and they are PHENOMENAL! One of my absolute staples every time I come is the duck nachos, they're SO good and definitely a must try. I also love getting the spicy garlic noodles with shrimp. Came here for dinner while in town. The reviews looked good so decided to give it a try. We were greeted and seated quickly. The staff were very friendly and helpful. We started with the loaded tater tots. They were ok. Had green onions jalapeños and sriracha. For mains I got the chicken katsu. It was alright. The sauce they put in it wasn't the best in my opinion and would have just rather had it plain. My son got the tempura shrimp bowl. He liked it. Said was very good and he would get it again. So one of three was good the other two ok. It also took a long time for our drinks. They came after our food was delivered even though they were ordered first. read more

We visited on a Thursday with a reservation. Keep in mind that reservations are limited to 90 minutes, so be sure to arrive on time. Also, plan ahead for parking, it's street parking, and it may take some time to find a spot. It took me a while to find one within walking distance. We ordered the pan-seared salmon, which was incredibly juicy and flavorful, you could really taste the seasoning. We also had the Mongolian ribeye, and it was just as amazing. I recently visited this spot and had a very enjoyable meal, though with a few small caveats. Food: We started with the short ribs appetizer--rich, flavorful, and perfectly complemented by the tangy kimchi. Highly recommended. ($16) I chose the evening's special, grouper served on risotto with collard greens, and was pleasantly surprised by how flavorful and well-executed it was. ($48) My companion had the Mongolian ribeye, which had good flavor but was a bit chewier than we'd hoped. ($45) Drinks: The cocktails were creative and well-made. The Yuzu Spritz grew on me with its bright citrusy notes, while the East 75 (their take on the French 75) was stiff but enjoyable. The Silk Road was an unexpected favorite. Drinks are $11 each--worth it for the craftsmanship. Atmosphere: Cozy and inviting, perfect for a date night or casual evening with friends. Warm lighting and thoughtful service make it a welcoming space. Overall, a solid spot for inventive dishes and cocktails. Came here for a Thursday night dinner! Most everywhere else in Birmingham had an hour+ wait for dinner, but EastWest had no wait! I'd never been here before, but had been excited to try it out! The atmosphere is similar to the other restaurants on 2nd Ave, and I love the mural in the back. I love a short menu, the menu here is the perfect length. Just one side of a sheet of paper. We tried the cauliflower to start, the flavor was amazing but the fry could have been a little bit crispier. My friend ordered the salmon plate for dinner, which I had a bit of and was INCREDIBLE. I'd definitely order that next time. I had the Mongolian beef bowl, which hit the spot, but did leave a little bit to be desired. I wasn't particularly wowed by the flavor or sear on the beef itself. Service was ok. I'll definitely come back here. The price and ambiance are right for a weeknight winter dinner out. Parking can be a little bit tricky around here. We started with the duck nachos, which were crispy, savory, & layered with flavor. It's a fun twist on traditional nachos and perfect for sharing! For our entrées we both ordered the ribeye, and it was excellent!! Cooked perfectly (medium for me), tender, and full of flavor without needing much extra. You can tell they put care into the quality of the steak. The ambiance really ties the whole experience together. The space has a warm, stylish feel with lighting that creates a cozy but elevated vibe. It felt like the perfect place for a date night or a relaxed but nice dinner out. Oh how I love east west. The food is very consistent , always taste great. I love the ambience especially at night. My top dishes to try here are all the bao buns , the duck nachos and wings. Entree wise I recommend the the Mongolian beef bowl , the steak which is also a Mongolian ribeye I believe is 100/100. The steak is about $40 but the most tender steak you'll eat. This place is truly a gem. The service is pretty good, drinks are good. Perfect for date night or a family gathering, I highly recommend this place. They won't disappoint. read more

EastWest is a staple on my list in BHM. I haven't met a dish I didn't like here! My favorite appetizers are the spring rolls, West Wings (on special on Wednesdays), shishito peppers, and the Chinese duck nachos. My favorite entree options are the soft shell crab bao buns (two per order) and the seared pan salmon. Chef's kiss. The servers are always friendly and can help you decide if you're debating which dish to get. Service is usually always pretty quick, too. You can go causal or go all dolled up with the girls for a fun night out. The drinks are great, too. Be sure to book reservations ahead of time. They tend to be busy all the time. read more

Edit: Shortly after posting this review, the owner directly messaged me to say that I don't how garlic noodles should taste (I'm of Asian descent by the way). I will include this in my review so my fellow Yelpers are aware of how the business responds to negative feedback. I had high hopes for EastWest after browsing the Yelp page and walking into the nicely decorated restaurant to pick up my to go order, but unfortunately, it did not live up to my expectations. The prices are outrageously high for what you get -- the food quality and taste do not justify the cost at all. I ordered the spicy garlic noodles with gulf shrimp (and requested extra shrimp for additional $8), but it was absolutely not worth it. The portion size was shockingly small, leaving me hungry and frustrated. Even after requesting my dish to be extra spicy, the flavor was bland and underwhelming. There didn't seem to have any presence of garlic or spice. I couldn't believe how lackluster the dish was. For what they charge, I expected so much more in terms of both quality and taste. My son and I decided to try the mushroom bao bun and its tastiness surprised us both. Didn't know something could beat the Korean cauliflower. The guys had the bulgogi ribeye and I the spicy shrimp noodles. We were all too full for dessert but everyone left really pleased with our dinner. Light, fluffy, pinch able buns filled with pork belly, delightfully seasoned beef, and soft shell crab. Crazy good stuff!! The Mongolian ribeye was fabulous. They have lots of small plates and appetizers, like the West wings, to enjoy and an array of wallet friendly weekly specials. There's a trendy, grown and sexy vibe, so it's a great spot for dates, birthday dinners, or girls night. They also have an upstairs section that can be reserved. I sat at the bar during this visit and service was great. The bartender gave great recommendations and everything came out rather quickly. The place is pretty bustling so definitely try making a reservation if possible. Otherwise, there's a bench outside that you can wait on in the meantime. read more

I've been to East West a couple times before, but we decided to come on New Year's Eve for a celebration dinner with a group of six. I would recommend getting reservations ahead of time because the restaurant is not too big and can get very busy. Even though it was a busy night, though our server was prompt and our food came out fairly quick. They had a special menu for New Year's so we got a few things off of that menu and a few things off of their regular menu. I cannot remember the name of the dishes we got that are pictured because they were from the special New Year's Eve menu. However, our food was very good as always. Can you really say you've visited Bham and had good food without eating here? This place here has made me spin the block a couple of times. If I have friends in town this will be a go-to spot. The location is great and the setup is beautiful for a girls night or date night. I have been several times and have no complaints about the service. Now if you plan to go on Friday - Saturday night you better make reservations. Now let's get into this food. The West wings, spring rolls, and Korean cauliflower are non negotiable. I typically just get these three things. The duck nachos and Bao buns are also fabulous. Most recently I tried two entrees the Fried Katsu Chicken and Mongolian Ribeye. The ribeye by far is top 5 steaks in Bham. It was super flavorful and juicy.I'm picky about my breading on chicken, but the Katsu chicken was still good. Additionally, I'm not much of a dessert person but their desserts are delicious and change pretty frequently. My friends love the pink drink.
