I had three companies come out and I explained my concern and asked each what needed to be done. They were all eager to get the job and gave me bids. I thought I would try one more company and happened to call Doug. He arrived and once again I explained my concern. He looked at the tree and told me there was no need to do anything to the tree. I was very surprised. He had made a trip to see the job, told me it didn't need to be done and took the time to explain why there was no fire hazard. I then spoke to the electric company that confirmed what he had said. He was only one who was honest and told me I didn't need his service. How refreshing! Honestly means a lot to me. My neighbor hired Doug's tree service in August 2023 to remove a large tree. Doug asked for access…read moreinto my driveway with a bucket truck because power lines on neighbor's side blocked their driveway. I gave access, however, restricted where they could park the truck, as my yard/driveway is very small. A short while later, I checked on my front yard and found that they disregarded my instructions on where I agreed the truck could go, and they then had mechanical issues. The truck blew a hydraulic line which caused A LOT of fluid to pour onto my drive and stones/yard. I realize accidents happen, and told the employees of Doug's tree this and said make sure to clean up the mess you made. They used absorbent and degreaser for several hours to try to clean. The truck was moved onto the street and continued to drain hydraulic fluid as they worked on the truck for a lot of the day. At one point, the workers gave up cleaning and told me they got 80% of the oil out of my driveway/stones. I reminded the workers cleaning up the mess that they needed to clean up the mess in the street too. At the end of the day, 5pm, when everyone left, I observed that they got maybe 40-50% of the oil out of my driveway and did not do anything for the mess on the street in front. Very unprofessional. Next day, I contacted the neighbor who hired Doug's and he called Doug and got the response that they had done all they could do to clean up the mess. My thought was "no good deed goes unpunished"- I allowed the tree service and my neighbor to access the tree from my yard, so their jobs could be possible/easier. It reminds me to not pay for hired work in full before a job is completed, get more than one bid (even if it is a good price) and find a company that will take responsibility for their actions. Doug's Tree service is not a company I would consider in the future.

In 2013 Elite Hardscapes did an over $30k paver job in our backyard. Before the project we asked if…read morewe could flip the pavers so the smooth side was up. Chris, the owner, said he hadn't done this before but said he would do his homework. He came back to us and said he could flip them. They were installed that way and sealed. A few months later we had stains all over the pavers that looked terrible from water. We contacted Chris and he said it was a result of the salt from the pool. We knew that was not the case and paid to have a few other professionals come to give us their opinion. They said it was the sealant not the pavers. After a lot of persuasion we finally got Chris to show up with the paver company and the sealant company and they admitted it was the sealant. In addition, when they put the cement caps on the tops of our walls, they rolled paint on these and this paint started pealing and chipping. The other professionals who came said they had never seen such a thing. Chris said he would replace these but said we had to pay for the caps and he would cover the labor. After stripping the sealant and applying it again, we had the same issue. They stripped it again and said this was the last time they would do this and could not guarantee it wouldn't happen again. He tried to get us to just leave it unsealed. He said it could only be guaranteed if the pavers were flipped to the rough side up. He said we would have to pay $15,210 to have this done because we were the ones who chose to have the pavers flipped. He's the professional and had he told us we might have issues, we would never had the pavers installed the way they were. I told him I didn't think I should have to pay a penny but for the sake of just getting this over I said I would split it with him. He had a really hard time with this but said he would if we again paid for the new caps (that replaced the painted ones) and then paid for half the cost of stripping the sealant ($3,800). I agreed again just to get this over with. This was in January and Chris said he could probably start in March. In February we decided we were going to make changes to the pool, which would involve pulling out some of the pavers around the pool. Instead of having the pool company and Elite coordinate schedules I decided to pay the pool company to flip all the pavers and asked Chris to just pay me his portion of what we agreed to. He wouldn't do this and felt I was trying to get him to help pay for the pool work we were doing. After he made a bunch of excuses as to why he wouldn't do this, he offered to pay $3,000 and then have a few pallets of pavers sent to us. In addition, when they were stripping our pavers they chipped up some of our railings, which are now rusting.

I was an HOA president for a small HOA of 13 homes and dealt with Kimball regularly for over ~2.5…read moreyears. I was brand new to the position and I had come into it with Kimball being put on as the property maintenance company so I didn't really know what to look for until I read our contract after about a year in the position. Upon doing so, Kimball was wasn't fulfilling their contract by: 1) not scheduling our irrigation system at all. I'd usually have to remind them to turn it on even. As a result of this, we had to replace about a third of our native grasses, shrubs, and ground cover. 2) they never checked the health of our irrigation lines. Again, they'd just turn our drip system on for the summer and that was it. The contract said they'd inspect it after every lawn mow, which was 1x weekly. As far as I could tell, that rarely, if ever, happened. 3) at first they were doing a great job of a now removal but by the end our ~2.5 year stint, they'd come out to plow our small private driveway about 2 days after a storm, which the snow would generally be melted by then. One time they even backed into our trash & recycling gate, broke it, and I had to call them about it for them to come clean. Only reason I found out was because one of the neighbors caught them in the act. On top of all the contractual troubles occurring during the first two years, I received the third year contract two months after our previous contract had expired and they tried raising our price by $100/mo. the third year. I talked to the project manager about it and we agreed that we should have a buffer year before raising the price. He sent me contract and I sent it back within the month. About 2-3 months later when I noticed I hadn't received a bill, I reached out to Kimball to find out that they had stopped servicing our property because they "did not receive a signed contract on time." This is all to say that from 2.5 years experience with them, I would avoid Kimball (and their parent company Brightview) at all costs. They did not honor their contract and because of this I constantly had to babysit them to honor their contract with us.

Approximately 3 months ago, Turf Plus was aerating my neighbors lawn and hit our fence with their machine. In turn causing damage to our fence that needed repair. I called Turf Plus immediately after it happened, and came to an agreement on the cost of repairs for the fence. Turf Plus shortly after sent us a check for $100 and we repaired our fence, after all accidents happen. Last week I scheduled an appointment with them to service our lawn. Told them what times I would be available and scheduled it for the following Friday. Friday morning, I called and spoke with the receptionist before the technicians left and told her that I needed them to come in the morning instead of before 1 PM or after 4 PM. She told me that it was fine, that she would have the technician call me. The technician called me a half an hour later, to tell me she would be coming to service the lawn between 5-7 PM. I told her that the time would not work, that no one would be home. She then asked me to leave my fence open, so she could still come. I explained it was not possible with our dogs and that we would not be returning soon enough for them to be let back outside. She then stated that I needed to reschedule for the following week, I told her that I couldn't because I will be having a baby. She told me to call the receptionist and see if I could be rescheduled. I called the receptionist and explained the situation to her. She told me she would call me back. Shortly after, I received a text message, not a call back. The message stated, "Hi Mrs. Shepherd this is Dana the manager with Turf Plus. I'm sorry we're unable to please you. Please find another company to service your lawn." I was shocked! They didn't even try to reschedule me! I called the receptionist back, Dana answered the phone. I asked him if he thought is was appropriate to send me a text, he stated that it seemed like I was unhappy. I explained to him the several conversations that I had, had with the other employees earlier, which he was unaware of. That I would have preferred to have been rescheduled, to which he replied that I couldn't the following week. I agreed and told him I was having a baby, but that I wasn't going to be in the hospital for forever. He then stated that they weren't making any money on our business, because he paid us for our fence they had damaged a few months back. I told him, that their technician breaking our fence had nothing to do with me, that we were still continuing to do business with them, and the amount that they paid us was their offer, not mine! Anyway, needless to say, we are no longer doing business with them. Unfortunate that it is poorly managed and due to improper communication between their staff. They have lost a loyal customer, who has referred many people to them.
