This is a shout out to Doug. I had what I thought was a potential fire problem with an electrical line and box at the back corner of my yard. I had three companies come out and I explained my concern and asked each what needed to be done. They were all eager to get the job and gave me bids. I thought I would try one more company and happened to call Doug. He arrived and once again I explained my concern. He looked at the tree and told me there was no need to do anything to the tree. I was very surprised. He had made a trip to see the job, told me it didn't need to be done and took the time to explain why there was no fire hazard. I then spoke to the electric company that confirmed what he had said. He was only one who was honest and told me I didn't need his service. How refreshing! Honestly means a lot to me. He will be getting all my business in the future and I will pass my experience on to my friends. Thanks Doug! read more

My neighbor hired Doug's tree service in August 2023 to remove a large tree. Doug asked for access into my driveway with a bucket truck because power lines on neighbor's side blocked their driveway. I gave access, however, restricted where they could park the truck, as my yard/driveway is very small. A short while later, I checked on my front yard and found that they disregarded my instructions on where I agreed the truck could go, and they then had mechanical issues. The truck blew a hydraulic line which caused A LOT of fluid to pour onto my drive and stones/yard. I realize accidents happen, and told the employees of Doug's tree this and said make sure to clean up the mess you made. They used absorbent and degreaser for several hours to try to clean. The truck was moved onto the street and continued to drain hydraulic fluid as they worked on the truck for a lot of the day. At one point, the workers gave up cleaning and told me they got 80% of the oil out of my driveway/stones. I reminded the workers cleaning up the mess that they needed to clean up the mess in the street too. At the end of the day, 5pm, when everyone left, I observed that they got maybe 40-50% of the oil out of my driveway and did not do anything for the mess on the street in front. Very unprofessional. Next day, I contacted the neighbor who hired Doug's and he called Doug and got the response that they had done all they could do to clean up the mess. My thought was "no good deed goes unpunished"- I allowed the tree service and my neighbor to access the tree from my yard, so their jobs could be possible/easier. It reminds me to not pay for hired work in full before a job is completed, get more than one bid (even if it is a good price) and find a company that will take responsibility for their actions. Doug's Tree service is not a company I would consider in the future. read more

Wow! This is a top-caliber professional! Doug came over this morning to look at some trees that needed pruning. His first comment was "Well, you don't really need me. These are all in the parking strip and Salt Lake City Urban Forestry will come and take great care of them for free." We chatted about some of the trees and Doug took off. Oversized, stinky, messy Russian Olive needed removal. Got a couple bids and went with Doug's Tree Service. Very reasonable cost, less than expected. The bid acceptance was followed up with removal within a couple days. The removal crew used a bucket truck for the higher growth, tying off large branches before dropping to the ground. Interesting to watch. Others hauled the cut branches out to their chipper. All done with coordination and safety. The stump along with some huge roots were ground away. No herbicide as we have grandkids that play in the area. Final clean up left area looking nice. Crew were polite, explained their process, and worked hard. We would definitely use Doug's Tree Service again. read more

Doug and his team are AWESOME. They were reasonably priced (it was a massive expensive job no matter what). We had to take down a huge (60+ feet) Elm in a very tight area between power lines, phone lines, and a small driveway and with half of the tree hanging over our new roof. They showed up on time, reviewed the project, and worked super hard. The crew was very polite, professional, and followed strict safety rules. Daniel is an amazing tree guy and has a talent for taking down a tree. I don't think they ever touched my house or roof. It was a very large and messy job and when they left, our yard was cleared of debris and back in order. They cut the trees in the wrong yard. They never asked permission. They just started cutting in my yard and I never hired them. They trespassed. Update: I asked Daniel the Forman to have Doug call me. Doug never has called me to follow up on his problem of having his employees in my yard. They never had permission. read more

Doug's Tree service was the fourth bid I got to cut down and trim some hard to get to tree's. Best price by about $20. They quickly did the job exactly as I wanted. One of the crew was a bit rude, all the rest were great. read more

My parents had have been using Doug's Tree Service for over 7 years. I have been using Doug's Tree Service for over three years and every time I call them to come take a look at the tree(s) that trees I need worked on Doug comes out with in a day or two. He looks over what I want done and provides a written quote. When I ask him how soon the work can be done is offers a truthful estimate and says he will call when he has a firm date and time. I had them remove 5 large and dead cottonwoods the largest having a trunk diameter of just over 6 feet. His crew removed all the trees with zero damage to my property and ground the stumps as well.
