The actual color in person was way darker than this photo.

All I ordered was taquitos. They all came out burnt. And after wine tasting all day I needed food. This picture looks lighter than what they actually were. The meat was blank and dry asf

Busy day in SC, we decided to try this restaurant for the first time, sat inside. The bartender was our waiter. Got chips & salsa right away. Salsa was good, chips were basic. We asked for water & got cocktails before water. Had to ask again for water, water should have been first before any food etc. Husband ordered tacos while I had the Mexican grilled cheese w/ smoked brisket which was excellent! We'd go back just for the grilled cheese!!

I seriously miss the bistro that was in this location last year. Rosa's was the quite the disappointment on our yearly trip to Sutter Creek. Six of us made prior reservations for a 6 pm dinner on a Saturday night. They may have been busy and short staffed, but even the food was disappointing. It took a good 15 minutes to have a drink order taken and then a half hour plus to get the drinks. The up charged margaritas didn't taste any different from the regular ones considering the extra price paid. The food took over an hour to get. None of the dishes were all that fancy, that long to get a few plates of tacos and a couple burritos. Then none of the plates seem to have any flavor. It's Mexican food, where was the seasoning? It even lacked salt. I doubt the group will return in the future. If you do stop in to try it, I recommend sitting outside on the covered patio instead of inside. More room outside and less noise. We walk from our air bnb. Street parking is limited in the area, as well as small area lot nearby.

While I was visiting my aunt over the weekend she took me here to have some drinks. She was raving about how well they were made so I couldn't resist the offer to stop in. It is a cute restaurant tucked away in the alley that I would have never know was there. We were greeted right away and had the option of sitting outside or in. Since it was a nice day we decided to sit outside. After we were sat we were given chips and salsa. I liked that their salsa was runny and the chips tasted fresh. Our server was Scott and he gave us the best service. I wasn't sure what drink to get for my little and asked about their sparkling apple juice. He was honest that he hadn't tried it but after we received it he circled back around to ask how it was. My aunt ordered a margarita and I ordered a mojito. I was very impressed the mojito was not too sweet, sour or had too much alcohol. If I didn't have to drive I would have had more. We shared the churro doughnuts and they were a little gooier than I expected however they were still good. We had already had dinner otherwise I would have tried their food. From what I could see around us everything looked yummy and was decently portioned. Next time I'm in the area to visit my aunt I will have her take me there and try the food.

Food is fantastic and fresh Not like a usual refried bean and rice Mexican restaurant. Staff works really hard. Ambience super nice in the garden on a warm night.

Smoked Brisket & smoked carnitas crispy tacos w/beans and lime cilantro rice.

Both came with salad to start with plus chips that were efficiently refilled by our server. I'm on the keto diet, so I was looking for something that would work with that and the fajitas works great especially if you avoid the sides. It was plenty with the salad, though it also comes with a plate full of rice, beans, guacamole, and sour cream. The space was quiet for the most part- no TVs, or loud music. We went on a Tuesday and it wasn't too crowded. You walk in and whenever the server sees you, she'll instruct you to pick a table. The food comes fast- drinks followed by chips/salsa, followed closely by salad, and then main course. I was impressed at the steady stream of courses. They do seem to favor black pepper for their seasoning, but not to the point of it being obnoxious. I like perhaps a bit more "pop" to the flavor of the food if I'm being honest, but I generally like my food to be loud. The salsa is onion heavy (onions being the main flavor of the salsa), which would be a problem for some of my family members who are allergic. Payments are made at the table, though there is a register located at the front for takeout patrons. I was pleasantly impressed with this little restaurant and we will be coming back.

We were a group of six diners. Service was attentive and accommodating. My husband had the #25 Shredded beef burrito and chili verde pork burrito. He enjoyed it. I ordered the Toatada Grande and asked for an extra portion of chicken to be added to it. I also swapped out the refried beans for black beans. It was good and I got all my protein and veggies. I asked for a side of salsa as dressing for the salad. It also came with rice but I didn't taste it. I would eat there again. Prices were reasonable. I'm surprised by their overall low rating on Yelp. I think it deserves more.

The staff are in the mindset that they are one of the best Mexican restaurants in Sutter Creek for food and service; however, this I can NEVER agree with. I would rate them at the bottom of any Mexican food I have ever tried in my lifetime. My food was super late getting to us and was only lukewarm. The guacamole had to be requested twice, but by then we had eaten all our flour chips, so had to cancel. Ambiance was non-existent. Only positive was the spacious booth seating.

This spot caught our eye so we decided to give it a try without checking reviews first. Walking in I wasn't sure what to expect. The front dining area was empty, and the staff were all gathered. It was early on a Monday, so I figured maybe it gets busier later... We were seated in another dining room, which actually had a few other diners. We ordered chicken enchiladas, mine were the verdes (Swiss-style) and my husband got the red sauce version. We also added a side of guacamole. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to our hopes. The guacamole was missing something, maybe lime, cilantro, or seasoning, it just tasted flat. My enchiladas had a strong, almost sour aftertaste from the green sauce. The rice was overly seasoned, and the beans were just okay. The red enchiladas didn't stand out either. It all felt like it was quickly thrown together, hoping the cheese and sauce would do the heavy lifting. For the price we expected much better quality. It was overpriced for what felt like cafeteria style food. That said, the host and waitress were friendly, attentive, and welcoming. So while the service was great, the food just didn't do it for us.

700TH REVIEW!…read more Colina de Oro (Gold Hill) is an average run of the mill Mexican restaurant. For a Tuesday, it is the only place open to eat for many miles around, so in one regard it is good to have it here. As far as looks and ambiance, this place has seen its day and definitely needs a cleaning and fresh makeover. It looks very dated and a little ragged at the edges. The bar seemed quite active, and the rest of the place had a few patrons, but not many. Chips and salsa, plus water, was brought to the table right away. The salsa was good, chips mainstream. I also ordered a blended margarita, which was rather bland and lacked any punch or alcohol. It just tasted like lime punch. The menu is what one would expect and all the usual offerings. I decided to have the Chile Verde entree dinner, with rice, beans, and my choice of flour tortillas. The pork was OK, again nothing too special. All of it was middle-of-the-road Mexican fare. The service was friendly and cordial enough, yet seemingly bored. So, with that, if you're hungry on a Tuesday in this part of Amador County, this might be your only option. Just don't expect much other than ordinary.
