This used to be my go-to spot for a very delicious chile verde burrito. I went there today after a long layoff and was disappointed. The meat was chewy and the sauce was almost not there. In the past, the burrito had Esperanza's wonderful refried beans; today there were a few regular beans and disproportionate amount of rice. Not nearly as good as in the past. The familiar staff was not there today. Given all that, I have to wonder if this place is under new ownership or if the long-term owners just don't care anymore. read more

Absolutely wonderful! I love their Carnitas tacos, they have the most flavor of any I have tried. The chicken and beef tacos are not very exciting. If you want a fried treat, try a shrimp taco! Delicious! I love their verde salsa, also way better than another place around. read more

Consider La Esperanza a very reliable option for fast and convenient Mexican food in Amador County. Their food truck is a staple on the corner of the main highway and Ridge Road and they've developed a well-earned reputation. I have eaten here a handful of times over the years. On my most recent visit, my family went with a cross-sampling of most of the menu, including tacos, burritos and chile rellenos. I am definitely a fan of their burritos - big, hearty, filled with tender meat (especially if you go with the steak option), and they pair excellently with their house salsas. I'm not as a big a fan of the tacos, which in my case were overwhelmed with sour cream, but I did like the chile relleno and I'm not usually a fan of those. This is my favorite food truck in Amador County and is actually my favorite place to eat as well. Consistency is key and the flavor is fantastic. We have eaten here at least 100 times over the past 8 or so years. The canned sodas are always ice cold and the salsa is spicy. We are always severed limes or lemon, typically grilled onion slices, and a grilled jalapeño. Picked jalapeños are also offered with both red and green salsa. The owner is friendly and attentive. I figure that it was about time I give "La Esperanza Taco Truck" a review. Truth be told, I've actually eaten here over two dozen times.. That's two dozen burritos in my belly that I've consumed in the 18 months that I've passed through here. And some might ask, why are you in the Sutter Creek area so often? I actually come out here on assignment for work so I pass through Amador County and the Motherlode quite frequently. Taco trucks are pretty scarce out here in the Gold County. As far as I know, there's only one in Sutter Creek ("La Esperanza"), one in Jackson, one in San Andreas, one in Angels Camp, and one in Sonora. And considering my love and affection for some greasy no-frills Mexican food from a roach-coach, this is the one that I have come back to again and again. Located in the parking lot at the busy intersection of Ridge Road and State Highway 49, "La Esperanza Taco Truck" has never let me down by giving me a below average meal. Nine times out of ten, I always order a basic "Bean & Cheese Burrito" (for $3.00). Depending on how many people are in line (it does get busy here at times), expect getting your food ready in a very timely manner. I've also had their "Carne Asada Burrito" (for $5.00), "Veggie Burrito" (for $4.00), and "Tacos" (for $1.50/ea). Keep in mind to always carry cash as they do not accept ATM or credit cards. As far as the flavor is concerned, their burritos are top notch and can rival any brick-and-mortar taqueria. The beans are mashed well with the perfect consistency of salt and cheese to even everything out. And the flour tortilla is warm and holds everything up very well. In the few times I've had their Carne Asada burritos, there is an abundant amount of spice (which you can always omit from your order) while the seasonings in the meat definitely taste homemade. Now I would definitely give this place 5-stars if it wasn't for the lack of condiments! Unfortunately, you will not find any toppings such as cilantro, onions, and radishes. They do carry salsa but you must ask for it (whereas most taco trucks have a salsa station). However, they do offer a nice beverage selection including sodas and Mexican beverages (Jarritos). But no Horchata though! Overall, this is a great quick place that has always been consistently good. This is a really good taco truck. We are lucky to have it and the others. This truck may have the best breakfast burrito I've ever had. I'm generally used to the Colorado version which is smaller and cheaper. This one is worth the $7 and it is a meal for sure. I think 2 people could easily split it and be comfortable. I've also tried their carnitas which I thought were pretty solid. I will be stopping through again as I pass there on a regular basis. I live in the Jackson area and there are 3 taco trucks. I have tried them all and have been to many of the Mexican restaurants around as well. The thing is, whenever I try a new place, I always end up comparing them to La Esperanza taco truck and I am yet to find somewhere that tops them. Its that they use the Laundromat bathroom and there is No sink in the bathroom to wash, However there is one in the Laundromat. One of the best, most cost efficient dining experiences around. Burritos are the better option (vs tacos - we did not try the tamales or tortas). Cash only. I realize why people are concern about sanitation because the laundromat where they use the restroom do not have sinks to wash their hands but they do their best to keep their hands clean. They use wipes and hand sanitizer in the truck before they prepare your food.
