If you find yourself in Groveland on a Monday or Tuesday evening and do not want a pub burger, then this is the place for you. Do not expect an amazing experience, but you will not leave hungry. The food is not "wow", but it wasn't "blah" either. The atmosphere is like stepping back in time, no...not to the 1849 era the town promotes, but more like 1980's with a ceiling fan that can't be turned off because they can't find the remote. LOL. I had a disappointing experience at this restaurant. While I was seated, the manager placed a chair right next to me. Later, another employee told me to move the chair somewhere else. I explained that the manager was the one who put it there, but the situation was handled poorly and made me feel uncomfortable. The staff seemed uncoordinated and communication between employees was lacking. I expected a more professional and respectful experience. The food was absolutely amazing, ordered the specials carnitas only made on Saturday and they were fantastic!! 10/10 recommend if you're having dinner there on Saturday, the micheladas are great!! Today's experience was unacceptable. The server, Saul, spoke to us in a rude and disrespectful tone and even raised his voice. His behavior was completely unprofessional and made our visit very uncomfortable. We left feeling that we were treated unfairly because of our background. No customer should ever feel discriminated against while dining at a restaurant. Stopped by for a quick to-go order on the way to Yosemite. There is a to-go window you can order from inside, along with a few tables for dine in as well past the window. They also do have a bathroom in the back, which is nice. We ordered the areial style supremo burrito with beef. I didn't know it was actually a wet burrito until opening the box, but it was still good! There was a decent kick or spiciness, but I would still rank it as a solid mild. There was a good amount of fried jalapeños, which was nice. I do wish there was slightly more meat and a larger burrito. It also came with chips and salsa on the side. read more

Heading back back to the Bay Area, from Tuolumne Meadows, Groveland is a convenient stop to stretch your legs and get a bite to eat. It's usually hard to go wrong with Mexican and, so, decided to give Cocina Michoacana a try. I noticed they had a few vegetarian items and went with the potato tacos. They came as a plate with rice and beans and I was offered black beans rather than refried, which was a thoughtful ask. Food came out quick and service was attentive. The taco plate was plenty of food after a long day of hiking. They're a little pricey but that's just life all over these days. They kept the beverage refills coming and I left feeling fueled up for the rest of the drive home. Cute interior but a little dark. It was hard to read the menu. Street parking seemed limited but I did notice a few municipal lots nearby. It's a blink and you'll miss it type spot, but well worth seeking out as you're driving through Graceland. read more

Well, this is my last time coming to this place. $19 for a chile rellano burrito that is as tiny as a Taco Bell bean and cheese burrito. Unbelievable. Just because there have been a bunch of people from the San Francisco Bay Area that have bought homes in Groveland doesn't mean you can charge San Francisco Bay prices. The rent is like quadruple there. Heck, everywhere I go in San Francisco doesn't charge this much for a burrito. We came here several times while staying in Yosemite Lakes campground, and couldn't get enough! We're from Texas, and eat Mexican/Tex-Mex at least weekly, and I'll attest this is as good as any. I read other reviews from Yelp re how this place was the "it" place to eat... I think most forgot to put "it place for the town." If you've have had the opportunity to have eaten good authentic food, then sadly this isn't it. It was okay for the family to eat that night but it was just okay. The place was super cold, their AC was on full blast of just fair warning! Staff was friendly and prompt. My fajitas was just okay... and the same goes for the rest of what my family had. I didn't experience the service of the actual restaurant cause we just ordered to go, but if I'm being honest the food was kind of disappointing for being one often the only Hispanic spots in the area. The food really had no flavor and just tasted like the sauce was blended up peppers and water with no actual seasoning. I honestly think the waitress forgot to put our orders in, but there was no communication. Additionally, I asked for a straw and never got one. This place is GREAT! I honestly am appalled at the "negative" reviews. They just seem like overly picky people, some of whom don't bother to read the menu (e.g., one free chips, 20% of 6 or more). Anyway, we rolled in from a day at Yosemite and the place was packed. I don't know for sure but it seems like a family run business. The place has small, family feel. Everyone was VERY attentive and nice, drinks arrived in lightning speed, and food was delicious. Our party of six included a serious shellfish allergy and dairy intolerance and they were extraordinarily accommodating such that we had zero worries of cross-contamination. This is a lovely small business in Groveland that should be celebrated. Eat here if you get the chance! read more

Ordered a "La Patrona" burrito for takeout, and it came out to $20. I'd ordered based on an image of an old version of the menu with an outdated price. The burrito was delicious and spicy and just what I needed after hiking Vernal Falls. The pork was well seasoned and fillings were generous. However I can't confidently say that I felt good about spending $20 on a burrito. I would've preferred if the complimentary chips and salsa were optional and the burrito was smaller for a more reasonable price. There aren't a ton of food options in Groveland, so I would recommend this if you're staying nearby (plug for Chris and Brittany's B&B, the Berkshire Inn) but set your expectations appropriately! read more

I liked our server. She was kind. That's about it that I liked. We came in around 7pm, and there were only two other tables occupied with customers. We seated ourselves and were approached relatively quickly. The place is cozy, but I still felt uncomfortable. It just isn't my vibe of a place. I wanted to leave, but my family was hungry. We were all looking forward to chips and salsa, but came to learn only one basket of chips and salsa is free. If you want more, it'll cost $5.95 per basket. These weren't filled to the brim with chips either. AND they were stale. The salsa was spicy (tasted like it was PACE, the brand of salsa from a jar) enough to burn the tongues of two party members. I asked for a less spicy salsa, but none was available. The waitress brought sauce poured over enchiladas since it's not spicy, but that's all she could offer. I appreciate the gesture, but still put off by the lack of options. Each plate was $15-25, which I didn't feel was worth it at all. Overpriced. Portions on the small side. My husband got fajitas and was given 4 small corn tortillas, which wasn't enough. We didn't wanted to be charged for more, so we didn't ask for more. In total, we ordered 4 entrees (a 2 taco plate, 2 burrito plates, and a hot skillet) no drinks, only water. With tip, the total came to $115! No one was wowed by the food by any means. I've had amazing Mexican and this wasn't it by a long shot. We felt glad to leave and will not return. read more

This place has legit some of the BEST Mexican food I've ever had. Ambiance - we noticed immediately that this place had a cute motif going with their paper picados decorating where you walk in. There's not much of a waiting room but that's because it's not a big restaurant. Service - we had a great server. Our food came out fast - like maybe a 10 min wait after ordering. He even recommended the plate I ended up ordering. So glad he did. Food - what really shines is the food. I ordered the coco chipotle dish. I got it with shrimp. It was the best thing I've had at a Mexican restaurant period. Soooo good. But it wasn't a fluke. I tried my daughters pork tamales, my husbands burritos, and my sons chimichanga.
