The food was okay, but unfortunately the service made our experience very uncomfortable. We had to ask if someone could take our order, and when we asked a question about one of the dishes, the server simply told us to look at the menu. She also started walking away before we had even ordered our drinks. After bringing the food, she never came back to check on our table. When I asked about the bill, I was told that a 20% gratuity had already been added because we were a party of six. I understand that some restaurants have this policy, but the service did not reflect a 20% gratuity. When I asked for a receipt, I was told, "We don't give receipts. Take a picture if you want." Then, after paying by card, the payment slip asked for an additional tip even though gratuity had already been included. I am normally very understanding and not someone who complains easily, but the attitude and lack of service were disappointing. Solid Mexican spot in Groveland. The food wasn't mindblowing by any means, but definitely hit the spot after a day of hiking. I got the chicken mole which was decent. Large portions, and was able to do a takeout order. Overall happy with the experience! read more

Heading back back to the Bay Area, from Tuolumne Meadows, Groveland is a convenient stop to stretch your legs and get a bite to eat. It's usually hard to go wrong with Mexican and, so, decided to give Cocina Michoacana a try. I noticed they had a few vegetarian items and went with the potato tacos. They came as a plate with rice and beans and I was offered black beans rather than refried, which was a thoughtful ask. Food came out quick and service was attentive. The taco plate was plenty of food after a long day of hiking. They're a little pricey but that's just life all over these days. They kept the beverage refills coming and I left feeling fueled up for the rest of the drive home. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Cute interior but a little dark. It was hard to read the menu.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Street parking seemed limited but I did notice a few municipal lots nearby. I had a disappointing experience at this restaurant. While I was seated, the manager placed a chair right next to me. Later, another employee told me to move the chair somewhere else. I explained that the manager was the one who put it there, but the situation was handled poorly and made me feel uncomfortable. The staff seemed uncoordinated and communication between employees was lacking. I expected a more professional and respectful experience. Today's experience was unacceptable. The server, Saul, spoke to us in a rude and disrespectful tone and even raised his voice. His behavior was completely unprofessional and made our visit very uncomfortable. We left feeling that we were treated unfairly because of our background. No customer should ever feel discriminated against while dining at a restaurant. Really good Mexican lunch! We tried the enchiladas, tostada, and tacos and all three of us were super happy with the dishes. Salsa yum -beans check- being raised in LA I love good Mexican food- this hit the spot. The pork and green sauce enchilada was super good- tad salty but I was happy! I stopped here on vacation with my family expecting authentic mexican cuisine... instead i was met with the biggest disappointment of my life, as an avid burrito eater i have high expectations this place not only did not meet the expectations but it genuinely disgusted me. Burrito so oily i could barely hold it made worse by the fact this was the most poorly wrapped burrito ever, a 16 year at chipotle could do a better job. The cherry on top though was the abomination of cheese they put in my burrito, if you like the taste of sweaty gym bag then you'll love it if not I strongly recommend you avoid this place. read more

If you've have had the opportunity to have eaten good authentic food, then sadly this isn't it. It was okay for the family to eat that night but it was just okay. Well, this is my last time coming to this place. $19 for a chile rellano burrito that is as tiny as a Taco Bell bean and cheese burrito. Unbelievable. Just because there have been a bunch of people from the San Francisco Bay Area that have bought homes in Groveland doesn't mean you can charge San Francisco Bay prices. The rent is like quadruple there. Heck, everywhere I go in San Francisco doesn't charge this much for a burrito. This place capitalizes on being the only Mexican restaurant in Groveland. Cream cheese instead of crema in my burrito is absolutely criminal. The carnitas made me curl up into a ball of sadness and deep dark depression. 1) it's insane that I gave a $10 tip because it genuinely isn't deserved. 2) whoever has rated this place high enough for it to have a 4.1 rating should have their momma slapped. We were really disappointed with the business practices at this restaurant. Even though we were a group of 4 adults and two toddlers, we were forced to pay an automatic tip as if we were a large party -- something that was never mentioned up front. On top of that, we were charged extra for chips and salsa, which we were also never told about. The food itself was sub par for the price & portions, The lack of transparency and the way things were handled left a bad impression. It's not about the money -- it's about the principle. The servers were nice, but the food took really long to arrive. We were unsatisfied with the wait time. In fact, other tables that arrived/ordered after us got their food before us. I honestly think the waitress forgot to put our orders in, but there was no communication. Additionally, I asked for a straw and never got one. They asked another table if they were ready to order, and they hadn't even gotten their menus. Food was average -it is a small town.
