Cochon the restaurant and Cochon Butcher are arguably two of the real heralds of authentic yet innovative Creole and Cajun cuisine right now. I cook a lot of both at home--I'm someone who is dedicated enough to my Louisiana cooking to order Steen's syrup from Louisiana to my Florida doorstep even though Florida makes perfectly good cane syrup in its own right. (Side note: any New Orleans restaurant you venture to serving pain perdu with maple syrup and not Steen's--ask what the hell they're even doing.) Like most worthwhile restaurants, the menu here changes up. The specials as well as their famous sandwiches seem the way to go and I got the fried shrimp with bread and butter pickles. Exceptional--a small amount, it may have even been a starter but regardless was perfect for me. The sandwiches other diners had on their plates were large and looked delicious just glancing around at other tables. Everything comes up fast and the atmosphere is . . . just ideally New Orleans. It feels all the way "working CBD lunch" yet unhurried, a reflection of Cochon's greatness but scaled down and with utterly no pretense. There's simply a real sense of both care and expertise in everything done here no matter how simple or complex. I make it a point to introduce everyone I know to Cochon Butcher, and even though I've reviewed it already, I'm updating my review because they continue to deserve the praise. Everything was disrespectfully delicious. Every bite had us questioning our life choices in the best way. By the end of the meal, we were all sleepy and completely defeated by how good the food was. The staff was on point, courteous, and polite. Our food came out hot, fast, and perfectly plated with consistency that never misses. My only small complaint is that the sweet potato habanero sauce isn't as thick as it used to be. I'm a little annoyed about that, but it still tastes exactly the same Cochon Butcher remains one of those must visit New Orleans spots that never disappoints. The place looks like a trendy butcher. Super cute and stylish. The staff at the counter and the wait service are all amazing. You order at the counter and then your waiter brings your food. B & B pickles were very good. The Cuban was also really good but I had something very spicy on the end which I was not prepared for. My fellow diner liked his muffuletta. We got potato salad and Cole slaw for sides and the potato salad was my favorite. My daughter got the Mac & cheese and is hard to please. Another gem in a city full of incredible food. After doing some research, this place came up on nearly every list of must-visit spots in New Orleans. It was definitely crowded when we arrived during lunch hour, but the experienced staff helped us find a table quickly, and we were able to enjoy our meal comfortably. Street parking or walking. I've been to new orleans a bunch lately ive visited been here twice. There are always conventions or festivals going on so it can be busy and hard to find a seat. You find your own table inside or outside. Sides are separate order and price unless you order the special of the day amd it'll say what it comes with. 1st time ordered le pig. It was good, a little salty. But its not as tender as a beef burger. It was a nice change up. The pickles were good. We ordered some to go. ( take with you or they can ship to your house). The burger itself was filling to me. Rest of my party bbq pork and fish platter. Hush puppies were okay, they give so much. I could honestly do without it. Everyone was satisfied. 2nd visit ordered the porchetta . That was really good. Ordered a mac and cheese. It has breadcrumbs on top it comes in a small dish that i feel like is shareable. It wasn't bad actually ( ive had worse lol). One of the workers did really suggest it. I was willing to try it. It was edible, no cheese pull but also not just buttered noodles. While in town, I had to visit the other great spot for muffulettas. Here, these sandwiches are served warm, but more importantly, the meats are cured here. These meats make a great difference, as well as heating up these meats. But the goodness doesn't end there. This is a butcher shop and there is also a nice bar with draft beer with really great beer. Can't believe I never left a review for this place! I first visited back in 2019 because I had to try the Le Pig Mac, their twist on the classic but with pork, and it was absolutely delicious. Six and a half years later, I came back... and it was *still* just as delicious. Some things really do live up to the hype. There are actually two spots: Cochon Restaurant and Cochon Butcher, both are fantastic. Friend had heard rave reviews of this place so we checked it out. I ended up getting the BBQ pork sandwich which is a pulled pork sandwich. Pretty good, but honestly nothing more special than any other pulled pork sandwich I've had at comparable restaurants. Gf got the Fried Louisiana shrimp which is similar to the shrimp found in po boys around town. Not bad, crispy outside with tender inside. Staff was friendly and welcoming. A revelation between two buns. Cochon Butcher is everything a higher end sandwich shop should exemplify, from its setup to its menu. The interior is refined, yet rustic, settling somewhere between a butcher shop and modern restaurant. The line is long but moves quickly (10 min wait to order); the menu is straightforward and yet detailed. You have the options of a dozen sandwiches, a variety of sausages/meats, and a few smaller plates. We settled on their Porchetta and Butcher Burger, which were brought out pretty quickly considering how busy it was and our table size being around 10. There is also a bar in the back if you would like a few drinks alongside your meal. Speaking of, it was remarkably easy to find seats accommodating our party size despite not having a reservation heading in. The Porchetta was hands down one of the best sandwiches we've ever eaten in our lives. Salty, some kick from the chili-marinated rapini, and a very good focaccia bread. Likewise, the burger was fantastic. The patty was delicious, seasoned perfectly with the cheese melting on top with a soft bun. The quality of the meats here is extremely high. We were originally a bit skeptical because of the price of the food, but we understand now that this is no gimmick or day-old meat you're eating, it's the real stuff. Add into the fact that they have a fantastic house hot sauce on the table and you're just swimming in flavors. Others in our group ordered their pulled pork, mac and cheese, and duck pastrami sliders; all of which were fantastic and got heaps of praise. Cochon has set a new standard in what we look for in sandwiches. The concept of a sandwich is centuries old, always staying what some would call "safe". My friend and I sat outside at their benches and were joined by another pair of women and a friendly dog while we enjoyed all the yummy things we got. First up was the muffaletta. Now I must start by saying this is the first and only muffaletta I've ever had so I don't know what to compare it to but my only notes for this was that it was so salty that it was hard to finish. I ate one triangle and my tongue felt like a raisin - BUT I did enjoy the leftovers warmed up as it didn't seem as salty. The bread is nicely toasted and I do want to try this again. Our group of 3 ended up at Cochon Butcher when we found out we had to wait an hour for the original Cochon but didn't have to wait at all for their sister restaurant, Cochon Butcher. We did not regret the decision! We sat at the bar and had full service while we sampled both the muffuletta and lamb wrap with some local beers. The muffuletta was as huge but delicious. This spot came highly recommended from several people I chatted with at my hotel. So I stopped here for dinner one night to check it out. Upon arriving, I realized the place is split into two separate parts. There's the restaurant part and there's the butcher shop part. Also got a hot flamingo IPA to wash it all down. Everyone came out at once pretty quickly. Upon eating, the food was alright but overhyped in my opinion. The potato salad was similar to what you could find at grocery stores. The boudin had some kick and good flavor but at $8 was overpriced. The muffeletta was tasty with good bread but I kept thinking there's got to be better ones out there than this. It is a huge sandwich so I had leftovers for lunch the next day. Surprisingly the flavor held up the next day so didn't miss a beat on that. I liked the IPA that was paired with it; shoutout the person at the front for recommending it. The inside area has several high top tables and a bar area. It has a open window where you can see the food get placed up for delivery to wherever you're sitting at. Since it's a butcher shop, they serve boudin and other meats/cheeses by the pound too. I'd be open to stopping here again; definitely will try the restaurant. TLDR: Cochon Butcher has always been a local legend, and now with a Michelin Bib Gourmand which is well deserved. I have been coming to Cochon Butcher ever since the late, great Anthony Bourdain recommended it, and it has only gotten better over time. Fast forward to 2025, and seeing them finally receive a Michelin Bib Gourmand feels like well earned recognition. I brought my wedding party here for our rehearsal lunch, and it could not have gone better. The staff was incredible. We called ahead since we had a large group, and they kindly reserved a section for us so we could enjoy our meal together. Everyone was blown away by how exceptional the food was for what is considered "fast casual." We practically ordered the entire menu, from the BBQ shrimp to the Cochon Muffaletta, the Cochon burger, and the boudin links. Every single dish was outstanding. The flavors, the portions, and the consistency were all on point. The drink menu deserves special mention too. The beer, wine, and cocktail list is excellent. The Hogwash Old Fashioned was the star of the show. The glass is rinsed with pork fat before mixing, giving it a subtle smoky depth that makes it unforgettable.
