Oh my GOODNESS. This is the BEST leg of lamb I've ever had in my entire life. Just to start the review off with this! It was my favorite meal in Rome by far. The lamb was cooked and seasoned to absolute perfection and the cut was perfect. Just the right amount of fat. It was truly incredible. My friend got a smoked salmon dish, which was also just divine (smoked in Ash wood). We all got some Burrata, which again, was incredible. I will say the dessert portion of the meal was not great, I didn't even finish my apple strudel. If you want a dessert the chocolate fondue is our favorite of the five things we tried. Even though we had a vegetarian with us, he was extremely happy with his meal as well. A quick note, when you go here make SURE you get reservations as far ahead of time as you can. It will be full all night every night. When we went in, my partner said "five of us" and the host just said "no." Not there is a wait, just "no." Food: Foie Gras Starter: Yes, you should try this. Salads: We had a spinach and an arugula salad, which for the rest of the trip, I had trouble finding. When I travel, I like to double up on my dark, leafy green intake and was pleasantly surprised by Roscioli's "variety" of salads. Carbonara: I wouldn't order this dish because carbonara is a bit "heavy" for my taste. My travel companion insisted on carbonara, so alas, we ordered it. The only memorable part of the dish was the crispy pork cheek. I picked out all the juicy morsels of pork. Pasta with clams: This was one of their specials and it was very tasty. Prepared with olive oil and herbs. Tiramisu: Nothing to write home about. Service: You'll be eating at least 2 pieces of bread from your bread basket before the waiter takes your order. Cool little spot that functions as both a deli and a restaurant. Reservations are a must. Fun sitting upfront seeing the starters being made at the deli section. Only issue was the a/c was out and the real feel was about 95 degrees - just a wee bit hot, thank goodness we were by the door. We had the caponata to start, which was very fresh and light. Then the cacio e pepe and pasta alla amatriciana as our mains - so delicious! Dessert was a bit undewhelmingly, which was the Roman bun with cream and a scoop of coffee ice cream. First of all, make a reservation! This restaurant fills up quickly. My wife and I were excited to go to this restaurant on our trip to Rome, and we were not disappointed. We were seated immediately. We sat in the dining hall which was excellent. Other options for seating include the deli area and he wine cellar. Personally I thought the dining hall was he best seating in the restaurant. The al caprese was excellent. We also ate carbonara which was light with a perfectly cooked pancetta. All in all the food was incredible and our server was kind enough to bring some small plates so we try a few extras we had not ordered. I think this was the defining character of the restaurant - the service. Our server went above our expectations and made us truly feel welcome. We had an excellent time evening here at Salumeria Roscioli and planned ahead with a reservation at the counter a couple weeks ahead of our trip. Service is on Italian time, so relax. The simple bread (pizza bianca) here is outstanding. Cacio e pepe was also outstanding- a simple yet elegant Roman dish. Sitting at the bar is eventful if you like meeting those around you- it's truly what you make it out to be. Roscioli - The life changing carbonara - Salumerie Near Me - Rome, RM

We have been to Rome several times in the past two years. We had this restaurant on a list of possible places to eat, when we stumbled upon it while sight seeing on a Wednesday afternoon at lunch time. From the front door, it looks like a deli, but once inside, it is a very busy eatery. Do not confuse the restaurant (Roscioli La Sulumeria) with the take away Roscioli one street away, or the Roscioli Pasticeria down the street, although those look great too. We had no reservation, but were able to be seated downstairs in the wine cellar. At first, I wasn't happy about it as it looked like the "tourist seating area", but it turned out great. Our server, Manuela, was awesome. We had great house white wine, a complimentary starter (a "little welcome") our server explained of individual plates of ricotta at it's finest. The bread basket is amazing - a variety of focaccia, olive bread, walnut bread, whole wheat... €3 (total - not per person), and so delicious! We shared a "Selection of Salame from Our Tradition" and the "Cacio cheese and pepper gnocco". Both were great, and plenty for two people. The salami plate had something new: coppiete. I had never had this. It was like a peppered translucent beef jerky. Quite tasty, but spicy. We were served complimentary cookies for dessert, choosing not to order anything from the Dolce menu - we were stuffed. Hands down: this was the best gnocchi we've had in Rome. We tried to return the following Monday, but no chance of a table without a reservation. I had looked at the website, and it appeared you only needed reservations for dinner - WRONG! Make a reservation for lunch by calling, which I did a couple days later. I got a reservation for Thursday lunch at 2:30. When we arrived, the place was packed again. Food and servers moving constantly. This time we were given different cheese starter, similar to a heavy swiss cheese with a side of olives. Very pleasant. The bread basket was not as extensive this time, maybe due to the later lunch hour. I assumed some breads had run out by the time we arrived? I ordered the "La Carbonara" and my boyfriend got the gnocco again. I've eaten lot of carbonara, and this is simply fantastic. We also had a very unusual bottle of Sicilian artisanal wine from Etna - it is unfiltered and orange in color. I was skeptical at first, but turned out great. The wine list is very extensive. We were stuffed again, although I ordered some copiete to take home with me. They vacuum sealed it for me, too. Before leaving, I made another reservation for a few days off. Loved this restaurant! This place is great! We made a reservation for lunch on their website, this place gets busy so to avoid being disappointed it will make sense to make a reservation. We had a lovely server, we order burrata to start with the bread of the house make sure you order extra focaccia for the burrata is just the best combination. After we shared the cacio de pepe and the artichoke salad, the pasta was superb and the salad was good but like any salad in Europe not outstanding. Dined at the bar on a Thursday night, made reservations for two people two weeks in advance -- I don't think that much notice is necessary, but I didn't want to forget to reserve in time. Delicious breads and cheeses, and our server gave a very good wine recommendation when I asked for a dry white (wish I could remember what it was called!). Service was very friendly and decently fast considering how busy the place was. After a mixed board, we shared the cacio e pepe because I had heard it was phenomenal. The other thing is this is less of a place where the claim to fame is cooking great food and more place (really world class) where the claim to fame is picking the most extraordinary ingredients imaginable and combining them perfectly on a plate. This restaurant is a global MUST for people appreciate the subtle differences between a truly good prosciutto and world-class prosciutto and a good glass of wine and a great glass of wine and an anchovy and the best anchovy. It's simply an amazing and unforgettable dining experience for anyone who really loves good food. The fiancée and I ate here our last night in Rome, based on some good reviews and some recommendations. First- we got stuck with reservations that we tried to move up but were not able to, totally understandable, but a bummer nonetheless. Finally we get sat at our table in the wine cellar and it was unfortunately right in the middle of the crowded room. Very uncomfortable and the servers kept moving me so they could get around. We must have been interrupted 3 or 4 times. We started with the Fiori di Zucca which was far and away the best thing we had here. Delicious and well prepared. The Cacio e Pepe was good, but the Burro e Parmigiano wasn't anything to write about. In general we just found the ambience here unwelcoming, especially to the hospitality we became used to in Italian restaurants as expensive as this one. I had high hopes for Roscioli, particularly because it has been lauded as some of the best food in Rome. Sadly, my husband and I were very disappointed with our experience here. We made reservations a few days prior for lunch service, which I am glad we did because the place was packed for lunch. Thankfully we were ushered in very quickly, but that is basically all that went right. Firstly, my husband and I waited maybe about twenty minutes for a waiter to even acknowledge us. I completely understand that meals tend to be had a more leisurely pace in Rome/Italy, but we did not even get glanced at. I would not have been phased by this if it weren't for the fact that the two sweet, older men next to us had been checked in on multiple times while we were just sitting there. I gathered these two gentlemen were regulars here based on their rapport with the staff, but still. My husband and I were paying customers, were dressed well, and were eager to try great food. No acknowledgement whatsoever. The two men seemed to notice and offered us their bread basket. Once we were able to flag down a waiter, we just went ahead and ordered everything, including a bread basket. Then came the typical wait for food. My husband and I were okay with this wait since we were a) in Rome, b) in no rush, and c) the two older gentlemen next to us decided to chat with us. They were amazing conversationalists and definitely one of the highlights of our trip. After a while, most of our food came. No bread basket though. Based on our first twenty minutes, we decided to just not worry about flagging down a waiter for it. In regards to the food itself, my husband had the cacio e pepe, which was good. But not great. I had the whitefish fillet, which was pretty good. Nothing out of this world. All in all, if you do go to Roscioli, maybe strike up a conversation with the people next to you. The food was good but the service left something to be desired. The wait staff was not very attentive and was not friendly at all! (including the hostess and our waitress) This is an upscale restaurant and we watched them make a couple move tables in the middle of their meal to accommodate another reservation. During our time there I feel like we were ignored while everyone around us was being waited on and served. Bigger parties that sat down after us were done and leaving before we even had our check. I've eaten pizza in several countries in Europe and American and this one stands out. I highly recommend it. I am very conflicted on how to rate this place because there are too many factors at play. Um, the sauce was good but didn't change my life. Good -free ricotta to start which was the best ricotta i've ever had -death by burrata : never will you eat a burrata like this in your life. SO CREAMY, so soft, so beautiful. Also came with semi dried tomatoes on the side that were perfect as well.
