This salon is such a gem! To start, the salon is super cute, always clean, and very welcoming. All of the staff is so friendly and attentive. They graciously offer and bring you coffee/tea/water - which makes me feel special :) I've been going to JA for years but last year I tried a new place b/c of a recommendation from a friend. Long story short, it was ok until it wasn't and my long hair became short damaged hair. After visiting JA last year for my daughter's appt, I was approached by a staff member to get a blowout while I wait - great idea! but my hair was such a mess in so many ways that after explaining my hair issues, they found a spot for me the next day and fixed my mess! So happy and grateful that they were so kind... I also took my mom to that other salon, and she also had a terrible experience but it wasn't anything JA couldn't handle. Her hair was also transformed into a beautiful color - the prettiest color ever! The stylists take their time and listen - even when I have no idea what I want to do with my hair! The girls that wash your hair are phenomenal (other than the outcome, that's my favorite part!). They sell products, as well as pretty accessories - so you can shop while you wait :) My mom, daughter, and I always enjoy getting dolled up at JA. We look forward to every visit! read more

I've had my hair cut by the owner back in the day when he was at Aura, by far one of the best haircuts I've ever had. He is now not accepting new clients but I probably wouldn't have been able to afford him as he probably charges Soho prices. Anyway, I thought I would give his level 3 hairstylist a try- as I thought pricing wouldn't be as high and the haircut would be good as well. First let me start by saying that this review is in no way to attack this hairstylist personally, she was very nice an agreeable, the staff was very nice as well and so very accommodating. What I am reviewing here is the haircut and pricing: I had a very clear picture of what I wanted, I showed the pic to level 3 stylist. I explained I wanted a one color treatment...they got started on the color. Haircut was next...I saw that she was cutting and was barely making any cuts. I did not say anything as my hair was still wet and could not really see the progress, she got to drying my hair (no styling as she asked if I wanted product styling - I said no) and at this point I told her I barely see any layers? Ok, no problem she cut some more off. Barely making a dent. I was a little frustrated and decided ok, I guess she isnt as experienced as I thought she would be so I chalked it up to that as I didn't want to make a fuss. Got to the counter $244??? My hair cut was maybe 79 according to their level 3 pricing, and not sure what color service I received. I thought since it was single process I would be paying 150 or so...but no...244 for a barely there hair cut. Please if you go to this salon ask for pricing upfront or what type of service you are getting. I thought I was getting a regular cut/color but I guess that was not the case. What really bothers me is that I get a barely there cut and end up paying almost 300 for it. read more

I came to this salon after the worst experience I ever had at a salon across the street at Anthony Robert. I felt like an abuse victim when I walked into JA salon. Read my reviews and you will see what I am talking about. When I came into the salon, Stephanie looked at my hair and said you can get highlighted and that she could work with it. So I made an appointment for the following week. Before I left, I explained what was going on with my hair and scalp. Stephanie immediately advised me to stop using products with sulfates in them and gave me products. My hair and scalp instantly got better. It was a dramatic and noticeable difference. My son said to me it is like you got a hair transplant. This is why you are supposed to ask professionals in a salon what products to use, so this doesn't happen to you! When you look up what can cause hair to fall out and scalp irritation especially on curly hair it states sulfates can do this. It literally took Stephanie five minutes to fix a two year long problem. What do you say when you are no longer in pain? Or when your hair no longer looks like the rats have been sucking on it? When I got highlights and a cut by Stephanie a week later it was exactly what I wanted: blonde highlights uniformed in placement, great color and she fixed my uneven haircut. This was what I couldn't get for months at my previous salon! Absolutely shocking how quickly she fixed my hair! Then Stephanie explained how to do my curly hair as it was returning. Stephanie didn't blame me for what was occurring with my hair or dismiss me instead, she looked for solutions and fixed my hair. I went in to see Christine again, and she just never lets me down! I've had really long hair my entire life and was finally ready for a change. I showed her a picture of what I wanted (or what I thought I wanted). Christine cut 5 inches off and if she had gone any shorter(like the picture) I'm not sure I would have loved my new cut as much! Came in for consultation a week before my appointment to make sure hair stylist knows what to do and we are on the same terms! a week later, she completely ignored my request and left me with horrible yellow hair on top and fried ashy hair on the sides that brake, she checked my hair maybe once or twice during the process,they assistant washed my hair and expected me to leave with my wet home since. She said if I dont want blow dry for additional cost I have to go home with wet hair. Stephanie hwo bleached my hair didnt even check on me asking whether I like it or not. First time here, I was referral by a close friend. I try out Alicia! Wow best decision ever! I was a little nervous at first. But everything went well. Came in got greeted in a pleasant way. The place is really quiet and relaxing, everyone was just doing there work and minding their own business. The staff are friendly! But Overall Alicia was super great, she went step by step of what she was doing on my hair. I show her a picture of what i wanted, and it came out better than what i expected wow. Went in to get my bangs trimmed but because it was my first visit they offered me a cut and a blowout and for $32.00 and I couldn't say no. Maria, my stylist, was super friendly which quite honestly made all the difference in my decision to make this where I go for a cut. She blew my hair out perfectly, touched up my layers and face frame as well as trimmed my bangs and it came out great. Another huge plus for this place is that they are open on Sunday's! They are seriously the only salon in the area I know of that is open on Sundays. Being opened seven days a week for someone who works as much as I do basically sealed the deal that I will definitely return. read more

I don't recommend his hair salon at all. I was recommend by a friend how professional he is. So I drove all the way from Brooklyn hoping that he could guide me with my hair on what to do because the color I had did not look right on me. I clearly asked four times in my consultation if I allowed them to fix the color would it make it nappy or break and I was told no it would not. Now my hair is all nappy and broken from the top. I went back to him and he told me to gel it down it's not a big deal. How this was my fault. At no time did his team tell me in the consultation that I should wait a few months before doing anything to my hair. He charged me $400 and damaged my hair. In order to look a little decent I put my hair in a ponytail all the time. He is a money hungry man. read more

Just a quick update: Six months after my first application of Great Lengths, and I'm completely addicted. In November, I had my extensions carefully, professionally removed by Annie, and then reinstalled the same day. After removal, my hair was perfect. No damage, no breakage, no problems at all! I've seen so many negative reviews of Great Lengths on the internet, and I wanted to share my experience because I truly believe that the key is to have an experienced, professional, certified individual install the extensions; to receive (and follow) proper instruction regarding at home maintenance, and to have them regularly inspected at the salon. I see Annie every week for a blowout, and I have had no problems with my extensions! In fact, I absolutely love how they look and frequently receive compliments on the length and thickness of my hair. Anyone that's considering extensions should absolutely have a consultation with Annie, because she's genius. This morning I had Julio touch up my color and add bangs, and I can't recommend him highly enough. Julie always keeps things fresh - carefully examining my hair EVERY time I'm in his chair, taking his time to discuss what I want, mixing the color to perfection, and making me laugh the entire time. If you want rich, beautiful, glossy color, you need to see Julio. And now for the reason I'm updating my review: Julio Angel has expanded their services and they are fabulous! The salon now offers makeup application, aesthetic services, waxing, mani/pedis, and more! Yes, you're seeing this right; this establishment only deserves one star, if that. Where do I begin... I came here about two weeks ago because my former salesperson (makeup artist at Nordstrom) took a job here. She asked me to be a hair model because she needed to build her portfolio to show her new boss. When I discussed this with her, she said I would pay only a couple of dollars for the products, which is understandable. The day came for me to go to the salon. I came in and was greeted by a very pretty young woman. She asked me right away if I would like a drink, which I gladly accepted. When I got my water, there was biscuit, which was a nice touch. Once it was my time, I sat at their consultation station which looked like a bad wannabe HGTV job. There were frames with pictures of models, but the glass was missing from the frames and the computer printed pictures were folding. The mirrors were so tiny, I barely could see myself. When the owner came to talk to me, it seemed as if he barely could be bothered to speak to a potential client let alone his new associate; he was about to leave, so he didn't care how well my hair came out. After my half was dyed and my hair was being cut, they started cleaning the floors with an extremely potent cleaner while I was still getting my service done. I was the only client there, but that doesn't mean you need to start cleaning and turn off the music- I'm still a potential client. During this entire process, there was a young woman receptionist texting the entire time, with a foul look on her face. When all was said and done, they had a manager come out and evaluate my haircut. During this time, the receptionist was swearing. "I can't believe I'm f$&@?!&@ here, why the f$&@? Are we still open? I have a party to go to." She even said to the manager that was evaluating my hair, "what are you the f$&@!?& hair police?" At that point in time, I said to the manager, "well, everyone needs their time to learn, said the teacher." The woman never acknowledged my comment. And so, the receptionist went on and on about how annoying it was that she was still here, while I was there. As soon as my hair was done, she ran out of the door and proceeded to not charge me. I was shocked, but I gave my friend a cash tip and told her how appalled and uncomfortable I felt because of that girl. The next day, my friend quit and they harassed her to get me to pay the bill. I called back a day later and complained. They lied and said the manager wasn't there; but I, like a lady I am, voiced my opinion and paid. So, Julio, the owner, here is the message I promised you. Your customer service is truly pitiful and a disgrace. A business that values their clients would have called me personally to apologize about their employee. (And wouldn't have charged me) I say this with much confidence, because my family owns a successful third generation business. read more

I had a great first time experience here. Stephanie did my hair (blow out) and she did an amazing job. The salon is clean and beautiful, and the staff is very nice. When I walked in, I was immediately given a tour (since it was my first time there) and offered a beverage and snack. While I was getting my hair blown out, one of the staff members handed out raffle tickets to win a prize and I was also given wine and chocolate cake! Well, It's been over a month now since I was at this salon. After placing numerous calls and having left messages for this shops owner to get back to me to discuss privately, I am now airing my experience here online. Perhaps next time, Julio will return a call from a customer. I had an appointment for a blow out as I was going to a very formal Black tie wedding that evening and wanted to look my best. When I walked into the salon I was taken in immediately to be shampooed. They then told me Gabriella would be taking care of me. When she came over, she was a bit cold but polite and asked what I wanted. I told her I was going to this wedding and wanted my look to have some body and bounce. She started to blow out my hair and I could see she was making my hair way too sleek...practically stick straight. I mentioned that it needed to have more fullness and she said "so what do you want me to do..tease it?" She was obviously annoyed. I said yes...tease it if that's what it takes to make it look better. Besides, it was a rainy day and for sure would only get flatter over the next few hours. Long story short...I left there with the worst styling I've ever experienced! I never knew my hair could look so bad. I couldn't believe I actually PAID for this mess! I left and went to another salon down the road. After begging for help since I did not have an appointment, I had the whole thing redone. They too were amazed at how bad my hair looked. At the other salon, the stylist talked to me before getting shampooed, asked about the affair, my dress etc, and what type of styling may be appropriate. A shared decision. I'd been salon hopping for years in NJ - unsatisfied everywhere I went. I finally asked someone whose hair/style I've always admired and she suggested I try Mag at Julio Angel. I'm so happy I did! Mag is wonderful with both cut and color. She took into consideration my type of hair, face shape, lifestyle and need for change and gave me a great cut. I can't even give this place any stars . The owner is a money hungry man who doesn't care about his customers , I used to go to this salon myself when they were in little falls. I liked the color of my hair the first few times but it started to get damaged and didn't look good . That along with the prices which were not justified and Julio s ego , I figured with all the good places in northern jersey I'd go back to my previous salon. Fast forward a few years . My 82 year old mom who is facing some financial difficulty used a box color on her bob cut hair ( trying to prove its not slot of hair) she was mortified how it turned out. Quite honestly it was fine it looked kind of beige which isn't great but she could have lived with it. The next day was her birthday . It was a Monday . The only salon open was this one so o said we'll go there maybe they canniest put a darker color over it. Well I went in that morning gave my card number and said I wanted my mom to be treated but just to get a single process to get her thru her color . The receptionist asked how about haircut I said no . She showed me a menu stating Julio now charged more but all I saw was single process $100 something . I'm thinking the most it would cost me is $300 even $400 . I said ok just do a color and call me with the amount. I get a call $650 !!!!! I was in shock , they rattled off a barrage of things that Julio said needed to be done including a $125 haircut which I said no to. Then when o called back saying that price was ludicrous Julio wrote me a very rude defensive email. No apology . Not even like I'll take off the &125 since you didn't authorize hair cut. It's discgusting . He took advantage of a girl trying to help her mom and an 82 year old woman . He should be ashamed. When I finally saw the color it looked like crap . I truly think he needs to check himself . He's now a great colorist in a strip mall in Verona for gods sake . He is not in NYC. Every single person I tell this story to is ds gusted . Even my current hairdresser offered to help my mom in the future for very little money . They even said they would have opened up that Monday to help her. Now that is class and good business . Julio is just bad business . I never like to mess with someone livelihood and talk badly but this warranted a review. Especially since Julio did nothing to rectify the situation. Nobody charges that much on Verona nj! And of I showed how how little hair my mom has you would be even more discgusted. read more
