Nancy and Rich, our hosts were very attentive to our needs during our entire stay, and we will return again on our next trip to the area. They brought out toys for them which kept them happy and busy playing! They had a booster seat for little Jacob and gave the the most adorable breakfast - including fruit cup up in the shape of a dolphin and strawberry fish with chocolate chips. 1. We found this location on air bnb. The pictures were beautiful and serene. The owners live on…read morethe property and have 4/5 other cottages they rent out. The cost was 295$ per night. Towels, toiletries, linens, WiFi and a TV was included. Communication between owner and us was prompt. The property is gated - the cottage was clean upon arrival. The location was convenient to Cornell University and Ithaca college. The grocery store was also very close by. And the property was quiet and bed was comfortable. They do allow pets for an additional fee - so we took our 2 dogs. 2. Picture on Air BnB were deceiving. Only 1-2 cottages have the view that were depicted online. The Anticipated view was the main attribute that attracted us to this property. The Stone cottage has only a view of the home the owners live in. 3. There is no kitchen. We anticipated a small kitchenette and we got a dorm style refrigerate and microwave, a non functioning hot plate, and a kettle. There is no kitchen sink so we were left to wash the dishes with paper towels and our hands in the bath tub or bathroom sink because there were no sponges or items to clean dishes. There is no counter space. Minimal dishes were provided but we questioned how clean they were. 4. Bathroom and bathing - if you are traveling with a new significant other this is not the place for you. Plan on an uncomfortable bathroom experience. The toilet has a partitioned wall without a ceiling. Basically everything you do is heard loud and clear. The shower and bathroom sink is open to the rest of the living space. 5. There is a patio with community grill. No grilling utensils were provided but the grill was adequate. We enjoyed the patio space however the space is community so you may have to coordinate your cooking and dining time. We were fortunate to not have to share while we stayed here. 6. The "pond" and the grounds in general. Poor upkeep! The grass was not cute. Garbage bins filled to the brim. Owners dogs have free rein of the property but were not aggressive. It wasn't uncommon for the chickens to be outside of the coup either. We anticipated the dogs being able to swim in the pond as it was advertised as a beautiful feature of the property. The pond likely not taken care of in quite some time. There was tons of algae present. It was overgrown with weeds and the "porch swing" by the pond was rusted and moldy - again advertised as a nice peaceful way to spend your evening. 7. Location - this was much further from the lakes and wineries than anticipated - if you want to do a wine trail - plan on a good 30 minute drive to the first winery on the west side of the lake. 8. Overall a disappointing trip. We drove over 5 hours to stay here based on how it was advertised.

We had challenges from the time of reservation in September until check in and Travis, the owner, was awesome listening to them all. The house has two sides. One has 2 bedrooms with one being a lift room. The other side had 3 bedrooms. Both had tasteful decor for couches, tables linen Etc. Travis left us with bagels, fresh fruit, oj and yogurt (on both sides) for breakfast. We all had towels and fresh linen for beds and the beds were comfortable. It was like staying at a friends house. I would highly recommend this house to anyone! The house also has a grill and decks to sit on when it's nice out. It was in the town of Watkins glen and within walking distance to many restaurants and stores.

Writers! I spent the…read morelast several day at La Tourelle Inn in Ithaca doing a self imposed writers retreat. I've done this before, but THIS place is everything I've never found before. The pic below is just one of at least 12 places where you can sit in total silence and write. There were gazebos, benches, nooks inside, a tent covered breakfast area outside and that's before you get to the fireside camps where other people were "glamping" but hotel people can go sit by one of 12 fire pits! I also went out there during the day and took a nap on a leather couch in an outside tent covered living room in TOTAL SILENCE. Well not total silence. There were birds, frogs, and crickets. There were people if you wanted people (and I met two dogs!) but what struck me was the absolutely silence and solitude I could find. I desperately needed it, and I've NEVER found it like this before. If you go and don't want a balcony, room 104 is the quietest. There's a double door (room and hallway) so any children screaming in delight or adults laughing in the common area is blocked twice. Oh! And there's a trail head to buttermilk falls on property and it's right across from a Buddhist temple which just adds to the ambience. Plus the most delicious food and cider and lake views are found in Ithaca. If you need this, GO.

A delightful yurt on a quiet farm, 15 minutes outside of Ithaca. This is much more of a cottage…read morethan most of the yurts I've stayed in, most of which give the feel of canvas-sided cowboy tents rather than tiny houses. Painted walls, trim around the doorways, real countertops --- but you've still got the round walls, round central skylight, and some painted plywood floors to remind you it's not your average vacation rental. My group was three adults and a 7-year-old; this place was well suited for 4, and would be usable for 6 (which would require folding the sofa into a bed). There's one bedroom with a door, and a loft area with another double bed but little separation from the living & kitchen spaces. The kitchen worked well for cooking for 4-6; there's not a huge number of pots and pans, but plenty for a reasonable meal. Plenty of dishes, silverware, and glasses, including lots of kid-friendly versions. The wood pellet stove is thermostat-controlled and easy to use --- just remember to feed it every 8-10 hours in the winter. The bathroom is quite reasonable, with some fun homemade shelves. The owners (who live in the neighboring house) are friendly; their two kids were happy to play with our young person, and did a great job of showing off the small play set and outdoors toys. Easily the most homey and comfortable yurt I've ever stayed in --- and one of the most pleasant and picturesque cabins or cottages. Highly recommended.
