After deciding to get married in the beautiful Finger Lakes region, my fiancé and I visited quite a few wedding venues in the area. Even in the middle of winter, when imagination was required, the Fontainebleau, a magical inn on Cayuta Lake, stood out. Throughout the year of planning we worked closely with Terri by email. She was always quick to respond and very organized and helpful. She provided vendor suggestions, as well as layout options for the reception room, alcohol options, timeline templates, etc. We were lucky to stay at the inn with our families from Friday to Monday over our wedding weekend in June of 2018. John and Terri are fantastic hosts. They were so relaxed the entire time. They offered help when needed but otherwise gave us the freedom to enjoy the beautiful property as we wished. Terri's wonderful, hearty breakfasts for those of us staying at the inn were also superb. We held a rehearsal BBQ dinner on Friday night on the inn's patio and the wedding itself on Saturday afternoon. The inn and the grounds were immaculate; all of our guests couldn't get over the stunning location. The day after the wedding we relaxed at the water's edge and swam in the lake, reminiscing about the joy and fun felt at the wedding. On the wedding day itself, Terri and John ran the event seamlessly. They are true professionals. We didn't have to worry about a single thing. We utilized the salon room to get ready, the lawn for the ceremony, the stone patio for dancing and cocktail hour, and the elegant reception room for speeches and dinner. Terri listened to all of my ideas and requests and executed them perfectly, like serving perfect margaritas and mojitos on specific trays I brought. It was such a pleasure working with Terri and John from beginning to end. They are kind, supportive, and thoughtful individuals. We were truly sad to leave after such a magical few days but will cherish the memories of this incredible event for the rest of our lives. read more

We are using the Fontainebleau Inn as the venue for our upcoming wedding and have been SO impressed with the facility and the owners, John and Terri. The natural beauty of the Inn and the professionalism and experience of the staff - having handled weddings for over 20 years - make this a great choice for a Finger Lakes wedding. Located right on the banks of the Cayuta Lake, the Inn has a classic elegance that you just can't find in a banquet hall or other venue that you need to "dress up" to make feel fancy. The reception hall has a great old bar, huge stone fireplace, great wood beams, and lots of natural light to make a reception feel homey yet elegant. Additionally, there is a tented stone patio that overlooks the lawn rolling down to the lake that we are using for cocktail hour and dancing that provides a great setting for a big party! The Inn additionally has 6 guest rooms that come with the facility rental. Along with nice rooms with queen beds, classic decorations, and private bathrooms, you get a fresh breakfast in the morning. We have been totally satisfied with our choice to host the wedding at the Fontainebleau. Terri has a wealth of knowledge of the Ithaca wedding business and can make great recommendations for other local vendors to speak to and what types of decorations and setup options work best from what she has seen. She will certainly work to accomodate ANY special idea or request you have but has been a great resource for us in the planning process. We couldn't have been happier with the Fontainebleau Inn. We had our wedding at the Inn on a Sunday in June 2017. Despite the hectic weekend for Terri and John (they had a wedding the day prior), they were calm and had everything ready to go when we arrived early Sunday afternoon. The Inn was spotless and the grounds were absolutely breathtaking. We needed very few decorations because the Inn and gardens are just so beautiful. All of our guests could not stop talking about how beautiful the venue was and how wonderful of a time they had. I can't compliment Terri and John enough on how attentive they were throughout the entire process. They reached out to us throughout the year numerous times, to provide guidance and help us along with the planning process. On the day of the event, 30 minutes before the ceremony, they even quickly changed their plans and moved the entire setup of our ceremony from the top of the hill (under the tent) to the bottom of the hill, when miraculously the rain stopped! Wow - we were so impressed with their knowledge (they have weddings down to a science!), taste, and professionalism. We asked them for a few suggestions and they were spot-on with every single one (decorations, timing, flowers) - helping us to achieve the gorgeous (on a budget) wedding that we've always dreamed of. In addition, we loved staying at the Inn. The rooms were spotless and the beds were so comfortable. It was so nice to just walk upstairs to our rooms after the wedding! We were so happy that we stayed an additional night with our families as well. As delightful a spot to rest your head as you could hope for. I stayed here recently while in town for my cousin's wedding, and the reception was held here as well. I expected some sort of country motel, but I was blown away by this little gem on the shores of Cayuta Lake. The home is an elegant, expansive 1814-era mini-mansion set on a beautiful hill above the lake, and has been lovingly restored to perfect condition with a casual country charm throughout. The formal rooms are tasteful and classic, the kitchen porches and common areas comfortable and rustic, and the 6 guest rooms spacious and tastefully furnished, all with fully equipped en suite bathrooms. As a reception site the spot is just perfect, especially for a crowd of 100-150 or so. A beautiful patio overlooking the lake provided a wonderful place for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres before dinner, and a tented enclosed dance floor afterward. The main reception hall is a warm wood open beam ceilinged affair, with a nice bar and plenty of room for tables. The beams were ringed with delicate lights and ivy, so the whole place seemed to glow (though that might have been the newlyweds, beaming!) The hosts Terri and John were as accommodating as could be, and clearly born to the life of innkeepers. We really felt like personal guests in their home, and as at ease as we would be with old friends. I have stayed in wonderful inns and B&B's all over the world and can say they personify the relaxed warmth and ability to make visitors feel welcome that characterizes the world's best inns and lodging houses. Though we were unable to join the wedding party the next day for their send off breakfast in nearby Ithaca, the "light" continental breakfast Terri and John provided as we departed was simply delicious. I am still craving that thick-crusted homemade toasted bread and organic jam! A delightful bit of lodging comfort, style and hospitality where you might least expect it, just outside Ithaca, so close, yet truly far out. read more

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I just called the Fontainebleau Inn to inquire about having a wedding there. Terri picked up the phone and was willing to listen to my questions. One of the wedding dates I had chosen were available so I went on to ask more questions. I asked if she could mail or email me a wedding packet that would go more in depth than the website does. Terri said that everything I need to know is on the website. Since I would be coming from 5 hours away, I asked if she would be available on 10/13 to show us around the porperty. She said it depends on if there is an event that day and would not know for a while. I asked her if she could call me to confirm or decline the date and she told me that she didn't think she could remember to call me and that I should call her back within a couple of weeks. Just like I told her, it doesn't sound like it's going to work out. I'm very sorry but if you are getting questions about booking a wedding at your location, that means I want to spend tens of thousands of dollars at your establishment. Do not tell me to call you, you call me. I need not stay here ever to experience the poor service I received on the phone. read more

My husband and I recently had our wedding at the Fontainebleau Inn. We would not select this venue again and would not recommend it to others. We were promised experienced wedding planning and frankly, we did not receive it. We were emailed a 10-page questionnaire where we planned every detail of our own wedding. The questionnaire included numerous questions that many other venues would have handled in a phone call or in person, especially if the venue was advertising experienced wedding planning. The venue has a specific list of caterers that are "acceptable," which you are required to pick from, all of which are extremely overpriced. One caterer quoted us over $5,600 for 85 people! Another quoted $4,800! The menu items we selected were basic chicken entrees or BBQ options. The prices did not include any alcohol. Unfortunately, we had already signed our contract with Fontainebleau. My dad called and begged the owners to allow us to seek out other options, threatening to find another venue. The owners were enormously reluctant, but we were finally able to find a caterer who was more reasonable and better fitting of our taste. The owners, John and Terri can be extremely abrasive and come off as rude. We mainly dealt with John until our wedding day came closer. The night before our wedding as well as the night of our wedding he turned off lights in the inn on our guests. He spoke ill of my sister because she questioned him locking her thousands of dollars in make-up and beauty products in a salon room which she would have no access to until he unlocked the room the next day. When I arrived at the inn on Friday, Terri met me in the hallway and asked "Who are you?" in a tremendously rude voice, never introducing herself to me. I replied that I was the bride. She lingered outside of rooms and in hallways while my parents, sister, and other guests arrived. All of our guests expressed feeling uncomfortable in her presence. She and John helped themselves to full plates of food the night of our wedding, which we paid our caterer for. They snuck the plates back to their portion of the inn, being caught by our caterer. Both Terri and John were openly rude to our caterer in front of our guests and my parents, making our caterer feel vastly uncomfortable. After the last guest went through the buffet line, John and Terri demanded that the caterer clean all of the food up, not allowing our guests to get seconds of anything from the buffet. After our cake cutting ceremony, their staff was nowhere to be found to assist us. Our caterer stepped up and cut our cake for us. We negotiated with the Fontainebleau that our reception would end at 10:00PM. At 9:40PM John made the call to the staff to begin breaking down tables, collecting centerpieces, and taking linens off from the tables. By 10:00PM there was not a table in the reception room that was usable. The inn itself is exceptionally expensive. The cheapest rooms are $160 ($180 after their 12% tax) a night. The rooms have no amenities in them other than towels and anti-bacterial hand soap in the showers. Some of our guests forgot basic necessities such as shampoo, bars of soup, and/or toothpaste. These were no where to be found. One of my bridesmaids caught one of the staff members from the inn looking through her closet during our reception. Neither my husband or I, nor our guests were given keys to the rooms we stayed in. Our rooms were left unlocked the entire weekend, opening us up for invasions of privacy and/or theft. The night of our rehearsal dinner was cold, so we requested that we eat inside. Both owners made it clear to my husband and I that this was an annoyance to them and that they wished we had asked our guests to eat outside in 40-degree weather. The room that we used to eat in had dead bugs on the windowsills and on the floors. These were not cleaned by the staff, but by myself. On our wedding day, John and Terri negotiated with another couple, getting married the day after our wedding, that they could use the inn to do their rehearsal. The couple and their party arrived at 10:30AM the morning of our wedding and stayed until 12:30PM. All activities and set up involved with our wedding had to stop, including setting up the ceremony sight as well as our bridal party or venders going outside. Due to this wedding being booked the day after our wedding, our time was cut short and we were rushed out of the inn. We genuinely felt that we were an inconvenience to John and Terri. No discussion with them was pleasant or kind. We felt their disgust with us and the stress from them continued to climb right up until the day of the wedding. The Fontainebleau is an amazingly beautiful venue. The inn itself, the property, the lake, everything is beautiful, however, the owners ruin the experience. read more

Fontainebleau Inn, in Alpine, NY, is the PERFECT place for a romantic, intimate, exquisitely beautiful wedding. My daughter got married there in July, 2013. We had the inn to ourselves (including some family and close friends) for the whole weekend. We had the run of the place. We could swim in the lake; take a canoe ride or just lounge on the huge porch or expansive lawn. We had time to relax and prep for the big event. Terri and John and their staff were incredibly supportive, helpful without being intrusive. No need for a wedding planner. Terri helped us find the perfect caterer, DJ, florist...everything. She and John have gone to great lengths to authentically restore the old inn. The bedrooms are charming and so comfortable. The library, dining rm, kitchen, foyers...all spacious and decorated with a classic New England look. The reception hall is amazing. Beautiful beamed ceilings, stunning wood floor, and a huge bar. I was terrified about finding a place for our destination event (we live in Manhattan). But the minute we walked into the inn, we knew it was the place. It lived up to our expectations. Actually, it exceeded them. I used to write for soap operas and had to create many fantasy parties. I wish I'd known about this inn when I was in the biz. When you have your wedding at Fountainebleau you are not just getting a gorgeous venue, you are getting two owners that care about your day and your needs. For months before my wedding, I was emailing back and forth with the owners regarding questions and concerns. They were so responsive and helpful. On the day of the wedding, they did everything in their power to make sure things went off without a stitch. I would recommend this as a wedding venue for everyone and anyone. We have just had our son's wedding at the Fontainebleau Inn. It is a very beautiful place with a stunning lake view. The whole inn setting and the inside decoration are very elegant. The place is well renovated and still has it's own character and charm. The owners Terri and John were extremely helpful. Terri responded timely to all our emails and questions. They run the place so well. They took care of every small detail before, during, and after the event. Their staff is amazing. We had a wonderful time. We did not need to worry about anything there, everything was taken care of. We had guests from all over the country and from Europe, and everyone was very happy and gave us a lot of compliments on the venue and the reception. Just returned from my daughter's wedding the weekend of July 11th. Arrived on the prior Tuesday. The Inn is beautiful, warm and comfortable. The room accommodations are spacious, clean and tastefully decorated. Breakfasts are creative and delicious and we enjoyed them on the veranda overlooking the manicured grounds that abut the lake.The owners, John and Terri, are exceptionally helpful and hospitable without being the slightest bit obtrusive. I have nothing but praise for the way everything was handled. The reception went off flawlessly because of the professionalism. Plenty of room to visit with friends and family, many of whom had traveled from hundreds of miles away. I would give it 10 stars if the ratings went up that high.
