This place has my heart wrapped in its warm hometown hands. On any given Sunday you can find me crackin' cold ones with the boys at this place....the beer garden next door is like the garage with my uncles! They have a really good beer selection, albeit a small one. They have what can only be a 'select' variety of choices. You can speak with the chaps and chapettes at the counter for all kinds of knowledgeable answers for everything they have in stock. As for the restaurant next door, it's a good little spot! The kitchen is decent enough to pop out some tasty dishes. My sister and I grabbed a burger there once. it wasn't too bad. But I am here for the beer and the cozy vibes. I've seen folks bring dogs, small children (it's a quiet spot, it doesn't scream family friendly) and older folks too. I love the Greeks, really I do. Just keep in mind, the next few years there is some kind of living complex being built directly across the street of this quaint tiny little town. Expect things to change. I stopped by on Friday afternoon for a beer and a snack. because it was a little chilly outside, I opted for the French Onion Soup. I've been ordering French Onion Soup for 50 years and nowadays most places throw a little cheese on that looks like it's floating in the broth. I normally ask them to brown the cheese well but i forgot this time. Much to my surprise, what came out had lots of gooey cheese baked onto the outside of the bowl. It took me a while just to pick it all off. It was also well browned. Although the broth could use a little more flavor, it was the best French Onion Soup I had had in a while. The beer was pretty good too. The server gave me several tastes before I decided which one to get. All in all a nice experience. read more

We came here on a recommendation from a family friend who told us they had vegan and vegetarian options. While their beer selection seems to be out of this world, in my opinion this place's food is their best kept secret. We're not vegan or even vegetarian by label but I'd say my husband and I eat vegan about 70% of the week. We ordered a seitan cheese steak with American cheese and a Beyond burger with American cheese. We also order some wings that had a delicious homemade bbq sauce. That cheese steak was SO good. I would say the wings were pretty good and the burger was alright- not bad just nothing to write home about. I think the burger could have been more interesting with grilled mushrooms and something. We're always looking for a place to add to our 'quick place to go list'. This place will certainly be added. But since I haven't had the misfortune of coming across any in awhile, I decided that it would be good to reflect upon some of the news spots that I was able to enjoy while revisiting my suburban roots. And I may as well start it off with what might just be a front runner for best craft beer spot that I've ever visited. Years ago I never thought that I'd see my old stomping ground of the Main Line catch on to the flourishing beer scene that has been surging through Philly. But spots like the Beer Shoppe and Tired Hands have been making it a reality; and even though it came from my least favorite Narb bar, I was excited to hear that my hometown was getting its own craft beer spot. Especially when I was able to check out the varieties and awesome prices that most of the coolers had to offer! From seasonals and imports, to stouts and IPAs, and everywhere in between each cooler was devoted to a specific type of brew. and one was even partly devoted to a good stash of specialty colas. And inside you find a good selection from Flying Dog, Rogue, Great Lakes, Hitachino, Ommegang, and any other brewer that you may know and love. But what really struck me was how the prices were at least a $1 cheaper than most other craft beer stores, and that certain bigger name seasonals like Founders Breakfast Stout and Flying Dog''s This Fear were especially cheaper. Add in a 10% discount when you mix-a-six (except for Tuesday's when 10% of all six pack purchases go to a local food shelter) and you gain extra incentive to put together a selection of some of your new found favorites. The store is a short while away from installing taps and starting up a growler system. But in the mean time it has started to have some interesting tasting events, and has hooked up some special deals on specialty bottles. read more

The Greeks Next Door has a great, though slightly limited selection-- there are a good amount of Belgian brews and even some harder to find beers like Rodenbach. Local beers are also featured well, which was a plus, but the place could be bigger overall. The location is great, too. It's right next to the bar for which it's named and it's more convenient than some other distributors. The character inside is great-- there's a large statue of a monk (though he isn't Greek?), who stores beer in his belly. It gave me a laugh. The prices are all very reasonable and if you "mix six," as I call it (make your six pack), you get ten percent off of the bill. I'm not an expert in beer selection or stores. In fact, I also haven't dealt with PA's liquor laws in a few years. So, I bumped up my review to 4 stars to show that I give the benefit of the doubt. Great selection over all, although it's only one wall of beers and a second wall of more specialty beer. That said, having this selection in the suburbs is a big deal and I'm sure a lot of people save time getting their hard-to-find beer at this store than somewhere else. It's got a good vibe to it (I haven't eaten at the restaurant) and is well decorated. I've lived in PA for 4 years now, so please note my enthusiasm for a craft beer store to open in my little local cove of Narberth AND it being smack off the R5 line. The staff are kind and informative and have no problem helping you pick out a selection or two. Buy a 6 pack (mix or match) and you get a 10% discount. On Tuesdays (?) you don't get the discount, but 10% goes towards a food shelter. They also have local beer vendor tasting events. In summary- there goes my disposable income :) read more

Wandered in on my way to the Wine & Spirits store nearby, and was glad I did. They have a nice selection of chilled beers here. Notable is the fact that they also have a decent selection of ciders and a really excellent selection of gluten-free beers, which is appreciated! I'm not GF but many are and it is great that this place has not just one but a range of GF beers. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, and happy to give recommendations. The guys working here just seemed really cool and that added to the happy, inviting feel of the shop. So why three stars? Mainly, I've been spoiled elsewhere at places with *giant* selections of beers, and this place just doesn't have that. Great selection and extremely knowledgeable staff. In this part of the Greeks the bomber selection alone is incredible, and the refrigerator cases of 12oz bottles are very well stocked and labeled (both by style, and every beer actually priced - a great change from The Foodery in the city where you don't know how much many beers are until they get rung up, or if you ask about each). Beer prices themselves are PA standards for craft bottles, which are never great in comparison to surrounding states, but it is what it is for now. Has the standard 10% discount for mix-six, which is fine. Rating places like these hinges on staff, selection (varieties + organization/display of them) and ease of purchase, all of which this place excels at. Plus, you can get any of the draft beers the Greeks have (15+) while browsing, for a discount, and even at smaller-than-normalized (16oz, 12oz, 10oz) pours for the appropriate discount (1/2 off). Just visited the Greeks and the Greeks Next-Door during my trip to Narberth. Had time to have a great lunch and was able to spend about an hour in the beer shop with my clients who have an office in Conshohocken.. They must have a new chef the lunch was delicious and my clients really enjoyed it. Our visit to the bottle shop next door was successful, my clients never saw over 1000 different beers in one place and they enjoyed their many purchases. I am all for boutique beers (and even some mainstream) but this goes waaaaay above full ... full retail. Lame-O $2 fee for opening a bottle to sip while you shop makes this the last choice for the growing number of awesome bottle shops in the area. Others that DON'T charge this fee and which have an equal quality selection include the Ardmore Bottle Shop and the Local 44 bottle shop, both within easy distance of the Greeks Next Door. I was totally on board.... and then they started charging $2 per bottle for you to drink your beer in the shop! What? No other bottle shop that I know of in the vicinity charges an "opening" charge. Subsequently I spent $9 for what should have been two $2.50 bottles. This has so killed my experience and I will never go there again, and never recommend that any of my friends or acquaintances go there. The Greeks next door shares the liquor license with the Greeks (yes, next door) and has a pass through door so technically it is one location. The selection of beer is extensive. Lots of old favorites, and many I've never heard of. They do tastings most Fridays which is a great way to expand your beer repertoire. The staff is knowledgable. They also fill growlers. I may not be the most qualified to rate a beer store because I am more of a wine girl, but the Greeks Next Door is a really welcome addition to the neighborhood. It's really more of a beer boutique that specializes in carrying an amazing number of specialty beers and the expertise and knowledge of its staff is astounding. I always go their when I have guest and tell their staff a little about what my guests are like and where they are from and they always help me come up with the best selection. Once they even let me return a slew of Irish beers because I later found out my guests were abstinent. It conveniently connect to the main Greeks pub too. read more

Visiting my cousin in narberth I found his secret spot called the geeks next door. It's a bottle shop where I could buy one of over a thousand different beers!! The Greek's Next has a decent selection - but certainly not amazing. They seem to run out of the more popular beers pretty quickly...and perhaps should order additional inventory. Most of their pricing is in line with other bottle shops, but in my opinion their large format bottles are on the expensive side. Personnel wise, the people working there are friendly enough...but again in my opinion not as knowledgeable as some of the other bottle shops. But I guess if their employees were super informed about all aspects of beer they would be working in other areas of the beer industry. They offer a Monday Growler special with several selections being offered half price. However, their method of filling growlers is inefficient and lends itself to heavily foamed fills. They use a rigged up rubber tube and connector to pour beer from their taps...most of which are actually located in the bar next door. A few days back, I watched as a customer had a few growlers filled - one was at least 1/3 foam when it was brought back to the counter. I'm not sure what the laws in PA are in regards to sanitizing the growlers before pouring - but I'm pretty sure they're not be sanitized prior to filling. Also the way that rigged up tube is being handle - there is no way it's sanitary - as the employee carries it back and forth rolled up in his hands - remember that tube goes all the way down into the growler - body oils and beer DON'T mix well! Not to mention that yeast and other sediment also builds up - especially on surfaces that are not completely smooth. Just my opinion and knowing Yelp...this review will end up under "filtered" reviews, as that's just the way Yelp seems to roll! read more
