This review is for the dining areas at Rosewood Sand Hill, including Madera Restaurant, Madera Bar, and Bici Coffee. The hotel is located right by SLAC, tucked into a hillside setting in Menlo Park. The property feels peaceful, elegant, and very well maintained. Madera Restaurant offers a full upscale dining menu and is a great choice for lunch, dinner, a business meal, date night, or a special occasion. Madera Bar is perfect for cocktails, wine, and light bites in a more relaxed but still refined atmosphere. Bici Coffee is a nice option for coffee, pastries, or a casual stop for bikers if you do not want a full sit-down meal. Rosewood Sand Hill is also a nice place for a tea party or an afternoon gathering with friends. One of the best parts is the view from the hill. I like how you can partially see the highway from the restaurant, but you cannot really hear it, so the setting feels very calm and secluded. Occasionally, you can see some movement in the distance, but if you were not looking in that direction, you probably would not even notice it. Because of that, the whole place feels very private and relaxing. Visiting Rosewood Sand Hill feels like you have been transported somewhere away from Silicon Valley, even though you are actually right in the middle of it, just a walking distance from SLAC, the particle accelerator, and Zoox's autonomous vehicles. That contrast makes the experience even more interesting: you are surrounded by the Silicon Valley's technology and innovation, but the atmosphere feels secluded, quiet, luxurious, and almost like a retreat. read more

TL;DR Peaceful atmosphere, great food, and exceptional service. A true 5-star experience. All the deets: We started our stay with complimentary EV charging and a golf cart ride to our cottage. From the moment we arrived, the service felt effortless and welcoming. No snobby or stuffiness. The room had an epon feel with high ceilings, a large walk-in closet, a spacious bathroom, and a balcony overlooking the lawn and fountain. It was the perfect spot to enjoy breakfast and if you get lucky maybe see some of the bunnies that run around the property. Next stop: the pool. Swim, eat, repeat. The staff regularly came around with complimentary tastings from the menu, and more than once we ended up ordering the item they brought - spicy tuna tostadas at the top of the list! The saltwater pool was fantastic, although I was glad I packed goggles(your eyes may not appreciate salty water it as much as the rest of you). The pool menu is relatively small but thoughtfully curated, with every item we tried delivering on quality and flavor. In the evening, we got ready and walked over to dinner at Madera. A separate review is coming, but dining on the deck while watching the sunset was a highlight of the stay. The halibut seemed to be the popular choice around us and looked incredible. Fork ordered the ribeye steak, while Spoon went with the mushroom ragù. Both dishes were excellent and a perfect end to the day. Final verdict: Rosewood Sand Hill delivers luxury without feeling stuffy. Word to the wise: book *well* in advance if you're looking to stay during Stanford Family Weekend... A Deluxe Room was all that was available on short notice, but thankfully even this most basic level of accommodation at the Rosewood Sand Hill is plenty nice at 527-553 sq. ft. and with indulgent amenities such as Rivolta Carmignani bed linens. Arrived late and departed early due to a packed schedule so didn't get much of a chance to explore the grounds, but will be sure to do so next time! read more

Beautiful and classy with great service. Came for 2 nights. The staff warmly greeted us and welcomed us to the hotel. The rooms have an Asian theme to them and the grounds are well manicured. I liked the big tub and the balcony. The restaurant on the premises is incredibly delicious with a beautiful view of nature. Guests can use the spa facility which was nice. There was an outdoor hot tub that we went into while it was raining which felt magical. They also have bikes and a car to rent so you can go to the nearby town. I came here to celebrate my friend's birthday. We had afternoon tea for a group of 10 girls in the private room. The afternoon tea we had came with custom menus, four tea sandwiches per person, and a beautiful assortment of desserts. It was more than enough food for one girl. I especially loved that we each were able to enjoy our own teapot, and so we chose the type of tea we each wanted. I had the red tea which was fragrant with a subtle floral undertone. Rosewood is, of course, a beautiful hotel. The dining and patio areas are gorgeous. The staff are friendly and helpful. The private room had a booking fee and a minimum. It was a bit steep but I think the quality of the food reflects it. Everything I tried was well made and thoughtful - not too sweet and a good balance of components for every course. However, the private room felt a bit small, not very luxurious. There was no music playing and so it would feel too quiet when we were not having conversation. If you value privacy, then the private booking is great for you. Otherwise, I'm not sure if it justifies being away from the beautiful main dining room. read more

Dined here for the afternoon tea in a Sunday afternoon. Party of two with reservations, we were seated in the library which is the setting for the afternoon tea. It is a beautiful, quiet and private setting and perfect for afternoon tea! We started with the caviar serving followed by the regular afternoon tea menu. Opted for no alcohol. The staff is gracious, efficient and very attentive. The sandwiches were each served along with a pot of our apricot tea. The sandwiches were Cucumber, Citrus Labne, Mint served on Pain De Mie, along with Smoked Salmon. Cream Cheese. Dill. Pickled Red Onion served on Rye, with Dungeness Crab Salad, Avocado served on Wheat and last but the best Coronation Chicken, Golden Raisin, Cilantro served on a Walnut & Currant bread. All wonderful combinations. Next was Plain & Raspberry Lemon scones served with Clotted Cream.l, Strawberry & Balsamic Jam. We only tried the raspberry lemons scone which was crumbly and tasty. The clotted cream is not quite the same as the ones I try in London each time I visit there. The selection of pastries included, Beet & Raspberry Tart, Meyer Lemon Tart Meringue, Mocha Latte Macaron, Peach & Blackberry Pie and Chocolate Mousse Cake. All were amazing and we enjoyed the ones we were able to eat there and took the rest home in a beautiful to-go box. Loved the experience and will definitely return to try again. I visited here for a 1.5 or so hour seminar (not for lodging). Feels very high class. STARS (stand out qualities) -Beautiful facility - exterior and interior -Catered food and drinks presented well and delicious -Staff taking away dishes were very quick and helpful -Parking was pretty easy to find STAIRS (areas for growth) -Staff at front entrance was professional but didn't feel warm and welcoming. The front staff directed me to the seminar location. And said I was probably the last person attending (wasn't sure if it was more straight to the point or condescending) TIPS -Scope out location via map since I think it's easy to go to another complex as many of the buildings look similar. -I think I could have been more careful looking at the signs directing to specific addresses/locations read more

Outside of the valet staff at the front door my entire experience was forgettable. The food my wife ordered through room service arrived with nats, one of the outlets at the bedside didn't work so my son's iPad died, the shower temperature water was cold, there was a strange clicking sound that persisted off and on at night, and they attempted to run charges on a card I did not want them to. My wife and I handed the front desk a card to use for all charges during check-in, somehow they claimed to not have that card on file and attempted to charge the card I used for booking the reservation. When I had 5 pending charges show up on my bank statement I was so confused. I then received a text message at 11:30 PM for a credit card authorization form I was confused about. They obviously wanted to be paid ASAP but nothing about my experience gave me the confidence that the pending charges that appeared on my bank statement would turn out to be actual deductions. I was inconvenienced during my stay and I was inconvenienced after my stay at this so called 5 star hotel. Aside from the removal of the room service for food, I wasn't given an apology or a discount on my stay for how badly they failed on every aspect of hospitality. Instead I was repeatedly told they would look forward to seeing me again at my next visit. Just stay at the 4 seasons. read more

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary with a 2 night stay at the Rosewood Sand Hill Hotel in Menlo Park. I booked the room through AmEx travel and received a $100 hotel credit, daily breakfast for two, an upgraded room (based on availability), 4 PM late checkout, and no charge for parking. We have never stayed at the hotel or any Rosewood property for that matter. Summary - I was impressed. The Rosewood Sand Hill has excellent service from the front desk to housekeeping to the restaurant. I give them a 5 out of 5 for service. The quality, presentation, and taste of all our meals was very good to excellent. 4.5 out of 5. The rooms and facilities were clean, clean, clean but slightly dated. 4.5 out of 5. Located in the northern foothills of the Santa Cruz Mountains I give them 4.5 out of 5 for location. I rate the overall value for this high end Bay Area resort, 4.7 out of 5. This hotel gets my highest recommendation. If interested, there are more details about my stay below. My wife and I are Bay Area locals and rarely stay at area hotels. We wanted to go away for our anniversary, but our schedules didn't allow us to travel far. The Rosewood checked all the boxes since it was close (30 min away), had an upscale reputation and nice location, I could use AmEx points to cover one night, and lower incidental costs paid for by booking through AmEx. The question was if we would feel like we were "away" when only 30 min from our house? The answer turned out to be "Yes". We booked our room an hour before arriving at the hotel. Arrival & Service - We arrived about 12:30 pm and self parked near the lobby. The front desk staff seemed to be expecting us which felt very welcoming. They acknowledged the AmEx benefits and said that we had been given a room upgrade upstairs in building 12. On the weekends, the hotel offers afternoon tea from 2-4 pm in the "Library" adjacent to the bar. We decided to try it out and were glad we did. Daniel, our server, did a great job explaining how the tea service would unfold. We added a celebratory glass of champagne and thoroughly enjoyed the tea sandwiches and desserts. We are already planning to return with our granddaughters. The Room - Our room was spacious with simple, but nice furnishings. Replacing a "Do Not Disturb" sign there is an electronic "do not disturb" button and a doorbell by the door. There is a shelf outside the door for room service trays which is so much better than leaving them on the ground outside the door. The balcony, furnished with a table and chairs, had with an unobstructed view of the Santa Cruz Mountains. There was some noise from a nearby freeway (which you can't really see) but the sliding glass door completely shuts out all sound. The mattress was super comfortable with very soft linens. The AC worked well and was very quiet. The walk-in closet had plenty of room for hanging and folded clothes and luggage. The bathroom was roomy and nicely appointed. The room was extremely clean and the evening turndown service included a refresh of towels and resupply of amenities such as water or coffee modules. Madera The Madera restaurant is the only dining option on property for guests, but is a good one. Breakfast and lunch is casual with a regional, sometimes eclectic menu. Dinner gets the fine dining treatment ala Silicon Valley (Coat and tie not required). The quality and presentation of all the dishes we tries was very good to excellent. We've dined at Madera many times and had positive experiences. If for some reason you prefer different food choices, Palo Alto is home to hundreds of fine restaurants of every flavor. Reservations can be made through the hotel concierge. My wife and I came away from our stay with several impressions: * We had the feeling that we were "away" at the Rosewood even though we were in an urban area. * The staff and service were excellent in every department. * The hotel came through with the promised benefits from AmEx. I have top tier status with two other hotel loyalty programs and the benefits and upgrades are largely at the discretion of the property. As a first time visitor with no status, Rosewood treated me like an honored guest. * The hotel is only 30 min from my home (or many places in the Bay Area) in clear driving. That makes the Rosewood more convenient than going to Monterey/Carmel, Half Moon Bay, Marin county or Napa. Instead of a loyalty program like other hotels, Rosewood Hotels gives incentives to certain travel agencies, such as AmEx travel, and provide guests with top tier benefits. I have no status with Rosewood and was treated as well as other hotels where I do have status. We received a nice bottle of pinot noir and fresh plums as a welcome amenity. Later we received a complimentary bottle of sparkling wine and chocolate as an anniversary gift. The guaranteed 4 pm late checkout is very nice. Our Food experience was simply awful plus expensive. The items ordered from the bar menu were simply not good. The shrimp in the shrimp cocktail was very tough. Generous portion but too overdone. The Pate had no flavor also the bread it was served with was too hard not appropriate to be served with a pate. A crostini would have been more appropriate or certainly a less hard bread to spread the pate onto. My Manhattan was excellent but my 2 friends had vodka tonics which they said were very weak drinks not very much vodka in them. Service is excellent at the bar Jason our bartender was great. Love the beautiful atmosphere with views of western hills which is spectacular especially since we had a sunny 85 degree afternoon near sunset to enjoy. Definitely the next time I'm coming back with a reservation to sit on couches outside better ambience there. All and all had fun but too expensive for the quality of the appetizers we ordered. This type of hotel (read = costly), should pride itself on the most impeccable staff and information systems. I booked a one night (almost $3000) stay to get away. The moment I step into the building, it should be a whole experience from start to finish, but I was vastly disappointed. The front desk folks seemed reluctant to check me in. Once they took my information, I had to remind HIM that I paid extra for a late checkout the following day. He acted as if I was not truthful, checked his computer (why wasn't it already on the screen, and if it was, how did he miss it?) and said, 'oh yes, you have a late checkout at 2pm). He did remind me that my room came with an $80 credit for food that could be applied to my breakfast (room service or restaurant). There was no offer to ask if I needed help with my bags, he never left behind the counter to show me how to get to my room. Just pointed. Typically when I stay at a costly resort, I am immediate asked if I need help with my bags, and the receptionist will leave the desk to come up to me and guide me a bit towards my room (especially if it is a decent sized resort). He could barely take the time to hand me my keys. I made it to the room. It was very clean. Large bathroom and a half bath. Fireplace and patio. Patio faced the pool, so it was not going to be a place I perched myself to relax. There as a bottle of wine, some hand picked oranges and a hand written note on the table. That was nice. The minibar was filled with drinks and snacks, but no menu with the cost of each item. I called the front desk to confirm that there was a charge. That could be on me for not assuming, but I wanted to check. The bathtub stopper was broken. It would not stay down. My guess is that the cartridge was broken (yes - I googled to check how to close it and was able to confirm that it was broken and not an issue of my not knowing how to get it to close). I could not bring up my bill on the TV screen. So their IT department needs to get on that issue. Housekeeping was top notch. Everything incredibly clean/pristine in the room. I ordered room service twice. Room service was top notch as well. Right on time. Very polite. Going out of their way to ask if they should set up, and how to remove my items post-meal. Excellent. Food was okay. I've eaten at Rosewood numerous of times. It's a hit and miss on their food. The atmosphere (eating on the public patio) is what is the best. Skip the desserts/pastries. Upon check out, I called the front desk to inform them of my departure and requested my final bill be sent to me. Confirmed it would be sent. Two hours later- no bill. I called again. I was told that it would arrive within one hour. Three hours later. No bill. So I emailed and was sent the bill. No credit for the breakfast. So I tried calling the hotel. Call would not go through. So I emailed again. Asking about the $80 credit for breakfast. Received a curt response with an invoice that told me nothing and was told I had received the credit. Then another email immediately followed up with a curt apology that the credit erroneously was not applied that that $68 was applied to my credit card. My guess is that I only ordered $68 worth of food. At this point, since they never send you an itemized food bill, just the total, I gave up. Chasing $68 against a bill of almost $3000, at this point, it wasn't worth it. The lack of sincerity of their mistake and my having to ask three times for a bill is not the type of service you expect. I was never rude, nor angry, so the lack of curtesy on their end was surprising. Even if I stayed at a much cheaper room, the level of service should be the same for everyone. I used to joke that I wanted to live at the Ritz Carlton in HMB because every staff member would respond with "it would be my pleasure" and they seemed to mean it. I am hoping that this was a one-time issue and that the multiple front-desk people I encountered were new and in the midst of training. I hope the Rosewood fixes any IT issues with billing and knowing upon check in when people have paid extra for the late checkout etc so guests don't have to remind the front-desk people of these add ons. I found this place to be wonderful, from the service to the food. We did not have a bite that didn't taste like heaven. We did a holiday dinner pre fix style and family style. Robbery! It was 102 degrees out and we paid $1,000 to stay here for one day to enjoy the pool. They had no frozen drinks or smoothies, so we thought ok non alcoholic mojitos sound good for the kids. $17 each for a total of $98 on a couple drinks that are literally soda water with lime and mint! I had to speak to management and they reduced it to $9 per kids drink. The manager said the alcoholic version would've been $24 each, They should heavily disclose the prices. My mom recently passed away and we chose to have a post memorial service dinner at Madera restaurant. The dinning room can only accommodate a group of 8 or less, but we had 10 so we reserved a private room. I worked with a mediocre event planner. She asked for details already provided once or twice; she didn't tell me when items had been discontinued; she sent me an incorrect contract a few times, etc. We needed to pad the catering menu because it was difficult to reach the $2,000 minimum with only 10 people who are not drinkers. So we added a few canapes (at $120 for 10!). The week before she switched us to being able to order off the menu (which I asked for) and said they would serve the canapes in the bar, but neglected to tell us that they would then NOT count toward our total. The night of the event the server kept telling us we hadn't reached our $2,000 limit so we ordered more sides and an additional canape and a few bottles of wine to go. My dad paid for everything the night of the event (more than $3,000 for 10 people). Then, a week later, my credit card was charged an additional $480 for the canapes! No call, no email, no heads up. And those canapes were supposed to be counted toward the total food amount. If you are planning an event, I would seriously reconsider this venue. Be careful who you work with to plan the event and be prepared to be nickel and dimed ($50 for 10 place cards!). In addition to the stressful planning process and the questionable billing practices, the food was... OK and the services was slow. UPDATED: After reaching out to the event planner multiple times for copies of the invoices of what we were charged for, I wrote a letter to Philip Meyer, Regional Vice President & Managing Director. He never replied. But I did finally hear back from the event planner. She did not send the itemized bills. She sent the contract, which she had ALTERED on 11/3 (the event was 10/11 and I was charged on 10/17). read more

My gals and I came here last weekend for high tea. The hotel itself is Gorgeous. I saw 2 weddings going on in their garden area. They also offer high tea in their library area of their hotel. Super cute/ modern looking library. They have standard high area sandwiches and desserts to share. You can get any choice of tea you like. Rooms subpar. Food mediocre. Service doesn't know if the left hand is talking to the right hand. We love dogs and have a few, but we don't bring them and other guests who bring their dogs are left in the rooms barking so good luck getting any sleep. Hotel doesn't address the issue or follow through on their comping another stay. It's like having airline miles that won't let you use them due to their policies and when you are actually traveling to use them, so a bait and switch. Worse experience! So many other wonderful hotels to stay at in the area! Wouldn't stay here, again, if you paid me. read more

So overall I give this place like a 3.5/5 but I'm giving 4 stars since I can't give it 3.5 lol. Pros: the staff was great, very nice and accommodating for the most part. It's a really clean and nice hotel, definitely luxury. It's also very quiet and simple, up in the mountains, which I loved. We got a massage with the spa and my gosh it was such a wonderful massage. Probably one of the best I've had before. The facilities and spa is nice too. We spent our anniversary here and they did a good job of us making us feel special and celebrated. The library bar is superb! The drinks were phenomenal! Cons: I think one of the biggest bones to pick for me is the food & the spa. So the food was decent but it's not nearly as diverse and yummy as one would expect. We found ourselves ordering out and leaving the hotel to eat. It's definitely healthy and all but it's not "oh my gosh" lol. I'd give it a 6/10 for that. Which was a bummer as I had hoped to be able to stay in and eat for majority of the weekend. Another was the spa: it was not coed. They have one lounge/sanctuary where you can hang out with your partner or family but it's a female and male side respectively for the sauna/jacuzzi. Massages are together if booked as couple massage of course. But that was a bummer to me bc we expected to sit together in the jacuzzi and spa you know? They do have a jacuzzi by the pool that you can obviously use together though. Overall it's a nice relaxing hotel and if you're looking to get away with your partner and family (with kids) it's a great place. But just be prepared to try restaurants in the area (which are yummy) and be weary of the spa setup! I do think for the amount of money we paid, it would've been slighter better. This place is definitely what you call "California casual upscale chic". They refer to the rooms as cottages, and the grounds are beautifully landscaped with olive trees, giving you the illusion that you're somewhere far, far away. (But really, you're off highway 280, and sometimes you CAN hear and see construction cranes and traffic...never you mind! Back to your gorgeously, and painstakingly- yet-effortlessly, decorated cottage you go, to shut out the world.) Or perhaps you'd prefer to lounge by the pool, surrounded by Cyprus trees, where you're immediately served designer water in an ice bucket? You go right ahead and soak up all this place has to offer! At about 1k per night for a standard room, I suggest you make the very most of it. But seriously, I splurged and stayed here for two nights during the horrific summer of 2020, to escape the plague-demic and wildfires, and not lose my mind (and because it felt like the end of the world was nigh). It was just what the doctor ordered and I enjoyed my cottage, it's quirky, decor and the luxurious bathtub, and then lounging by the pool on a socially distanced chaise and walking amongst the gorgeous grounds to dinner. The front desk and concierge staff are unbearably snooty and unhelpful, and the cost is obscene, thus the rating of four rather than five stars. And finally, at the risk of sounding like a child-hating ogre, I also do think they could use a "kiddie pool" area, because the pool is terribly posh and lovely, and it really is kinda ruined by screaming kids in diapers in the pool - yuck! read more

Terrible customer service! I booked a room and they gave me a free upgrade (nice right?)... well I wanted to book an extra night there bc I had to stay longer (I was staying for work). They told me I could book another room online through Expedia. I did this - and then they said bc I booked the same room as before that I had to move rooms (at 8 am before work) , since my booking was for the lesser room. I didn't have time to move , so they told me that if I can pack my things up and leave them in the room, they will come and move rooms for me. What a nightmare! I quickly packed up, left my suitecase, and 2 bottles of wine for them to move for me. Fast forward to me coming back from work that night- going to the front desk to retrieve a key, and going to my "new" (downgraded) room. I get there, and my wine is missing. They took it?! Or threw it away?! I don't know ! But I also made a nail appt at the spa that I wasn't able to make (bc of work), and they charged me the full $200 for the appt?! (I'm a guest and a first time customer to the spa btw). Also I had dinner at their restaurant Madera one night, spent over $350... and this is how I'm treated?! Terrible customer service ! I'm still getting random charges from them!! Ridiculous! Never again! EVER!!! * I forgot to add the WiFi was out for almost 24 hours while I stayed here. My cell reception was terrible , so I was basically unable to access work emails or communicate with anyone during that time. This is the Silicon Valley people! There's no excuse for this! read more

4.25 stars. I stayed here overnight last week for work. Since my firm was hosting an event here, we were able to get a room block for about $550/night. Even at that price, I thought it was a little steep. The good: - nice location in Menlo Park. Pretty close to Palo Alto and Stanford. - very welcoming staff (though they got my name wrong ‍) - decent food and drinks at the bar (albeit pretty pricey, too) - nice, spacious room with comfy bed and sheets (I am very particular about sheets) - spacious and well-stocked bathroom - welcome fruits upon arrival at my room - fun, sceney bar, especially since I was there on. Thursday night, which has a reputation in the valley The bad: - they got my name wrong, and they kept repeating it, too. I didn't have the heart to correct them. - the welcome card in my room had the name of a different guest (and they eventually corrected it as soon as they had an opportunity to) - rooms are very comfortable but probably need a little updating All in all, it's definitely one of the top two (if not the top) places to stay in the valley. It definitely has the best social scene if you are looking for somewhere to mingle. read more

well- if you are high end VC, with unlimited money from other people's account to spend and are looking for very mediocre service and accommodations, but showing off that you stayed on Sand Hill Road, this is the place for you. From the hotel to the restaurant both are extremely over priced and under delivered. Please see my other reviews for the restaurant- which I get dragged to from time to time. We had issues with the rain and stayed here. Compared to some of the other hotels we have stayed locally when we needed help. It was VERY over priced and highly under delivered. I will just leave it at that - even if you won the lottery and have free money to burn, this does not give you the experience you want. read more

I can honestly say that the Rosewood resort here on Sandhill Road in Menlo Park is my favorite overall resort that I've ever been to. Not because they are the best in every category, but overall, in a very balanced way, they are the best I have ever gone to so far. read more

I loved my day by the pool. Even though were a lot of people (and kids yelling, diving in the pool etc.) , I was able to find moments of true relaxation. However... At the end of the day I was charged a 5% "living wage" on my poolside food/drink bill, with the expectation that I tip on that, as well as my $138 bill. I asked and was told it's to pay for the employees' health insurance. . It was instituted over Covid. As a cocktail is $20-28 dollars and a regular king room is $850-950/night (plus fees and tax), I don't understand why a customer ALSO has to pay for the employees' insurance. . Not cool. read more

Just dropped $$$ at the spa and am a somewhat regular local at the Madera. After a wonderful morning at the spa, headed over to get a salad at the pool. Told I'm not welcome. What happened Rosewood? I got it when you limited access at the unknown beginnings of the pandemic but come on, you're not busy. Why wouldn't you want to allow spa guests to enjoy a salad and a glass of wine? I made an online reservation to meet friends for lunch. So I take my car and arrived at Madera restaurant at the Rosewood Hotel Menlo Park and the valet instructs me to park my car in a parking space right in front of the restaurant, which I was thankful for his help. A friend arrived and was also instructed to park his car next to me. After lunch. As we were leaving from the restaurant. Saying our goodbyes. We decided to take advantage of the opportunity that these two beautiful cars were parked together. So we decided take pictures. A minute into taking pictures another valet named John approached us very rudely without saying hello, no introduction and visibly upset said "Stop taking pictures immediately and shut your car doors!" Confused because we were still parked in the space provided and yes the doors were opened but since the doors swing up in the open position it was out of the way of any oncoming traffic. We informed him that we were the owners and it is ok to take pictures of our own cars. His response was "I'm only relaying the message from management."We then went to the front desk and talked to the manager of the Rosewood Hotel who said "We need approval from the sales department before taking pictures on hotel property." I see a bunch of photos here on Yelp and other sites from customers visiting the Rosewood Hotel, eating at Madera restaurant, photos of exotic cars in the parking lot, etc. Did they all get approval from the sales department before taking pictures? Do you need approval to take pictures of yourself, friends and of your car at a restaurant or hotel parking lot? Do you need permission to open/close your car doors? read more

I was there for Christmas drinks with friends. I have to say the wait staff were efficient and helpful. But the cocktails were truly mediocre, the appetizers just ok food while the prices were five star! I'm sure that my $25 mojito had never seen any fresh lime juice yet alone muddled mint leaves And I should have been warned off by the name of the $30 fish shop punch. Big mistake. Purchased the ResortPass to use the pool here and I must say the service is exceptional. They give you a buzzer to press for ordering drinks, food, etc. The restaurant at the pool is called the Pool Garden Terrace, which is a collaboration with The Bontanist Gin. Drinks are amazing, especially the Spritz and the Bloody Mary. The only complaint on the drinks is the price, which seemed a little steep. The food is overall mediocre. We ordered the Yellowtail Ceviche Tostada and the Totchos. The yellowtail lacked flavor, but the chorizo-queso on the tots was tasty and by far the better of the two dishes. OK, this place is SUPER pricey and a bit doushy. I've stayed here as a guest, and I LOVED the experience: 5-star everything, including service. As soon as you arrive, you'll have the staff at your feet, valeting your car, taking your things to your room, little gifties waiting, turn-down service, the works. In-room amenities are beautiful, I'm all about treating myself and the over-the-top-comfort. But I'm really here to write about Happy Hour at Rosewood. I do really enjoy this place for happy hour. It's hella expensive, yes. In fact, the last happy hour I went to came to $200 for two people! So needless to say, happy hour "deals" don't really exist. And yes, the thing about prostitution here on certain nights does seem kinda true. Lots of skinny hooker-ish scantily-clad women come here. And so do the doushy guys, plus the weird, socially-awkward techies who are afraid of their own shadows, which means this is NOT make the right place for finding a man. But none of that bothers me when I'm sitting outside, under the tent, and staring down at the pool, enjoying a glass of bubbly. Not to mention, the food is excellent. The other boohoo is that the wait staff is a bit aloof -- Mainly the FEMALE wait staff. On more than one occasion, I've had one or more of them acting like downright b*itches. It's like they're upset to be servers whenever you ask for something. Well not my problem - I just want good service. Oh, and NOTE: When it gets hot, sometimes there are bugs flying around, and they do NOT carry citronella candles. I know, I made this place sound like a sh*thole, LOL. The resort was beautiful the staff was amazing and catered to our needs. Definitely a nice staycation for a wedding. Food from Madera was amazing!!! The Kumamoto oysters and wagyu tartar was the best! So glad we got to experience this location can't wait to check out the others! read more
