I found this hotel just doing a google search. Cottage Hotel is really a hidden gem tucked away in the area of Menlo Park and Could easily be passed by without notice. You would have to drive, into what is a very beautiful property delicately decorated. It has a feel of a romantic, quaint intimate feeling, yet catered also to the corporate clientele. The location parking and everything Is very convenient and the experience of check in was very friendly. The agent greeted us and gave me a cottage cheese and a yogurt to my son, seeing we arrived in the late evening close to 9:00pm. The rooms are modern and very clean, and the decoration has a kind of minimalistic feel to it, but very classy. The bathrooms are Unique with white and red shades. The breakfast was probably the highlight of our stay having a full on breakfast buffet, eggs, bacon, muffins, scones, and a full-on coffee machine, and the seating was very nice, but small. Rooms don't run cheap but I do feel it's worth every penny for the experience. They also forgot to mention have like this mini backyard in the room, super cute and private.

One of the most affordable, quant places one could stay while visiting Stanford and the surrounding area. The staff are very friendly and the hot breakfast has plenty of options. I'd rather pay to stay here than pay an additional $150+ to stay at the Sheraton closer to Stanford campus and still hear the Caltrain zoom by. They have a handy magnetic do not disturb sign so you don't have to worry about a door hang one flying off if it gets windy. Overall clean and mostly quiet place to stay. Super walkable to downtown Menlo Park and the Caltrain station.

This hotel is amazing! My mom and I only stayed one night but the whole time we kept saying "wow, I love it here" and we wish we had more time to spend there. The owners are wonderful and you can tell how much care and thought they put into the rooms. The decor is fabulous everywhere you looked, beds are soft and comfortable, it's just a clean beautiful space. The breakfast here was amazing also! I will continue to stay here every time I have to visit Palo Alto and will recommend it everyone.

    Tranquil Courtyard

I have lived in this area for years, but didn't discover this hidden gem in until yesterday when we decided to move. Everything at this hotel is perfect -- the room and all the amenities, the quiet and tree covered courtyard, the simple but nicely prepared breakfast, and the friendly staff. There is thoughtful attention to details that chain hotels at the same price range can't match. It reminds me of beautiful boutique hotels in Asia. The only reason that a 5 star isn't given for this review is because a bit of uncomfortable encounter with the front desk person at the end of our stay. When we stayed on the property and had to use the public facilities in the afternoon, the front desk person's rolling eyes were telling what he was thinking.

Hope this helps! Loved our stay!

In the hotel, there's a restaurant where you can start your day with delicious French toast (10/10) and relax by the fireplace after and play a game of Scrabble. In the afternoon there are cookies near the front desk that you're welcome to stop by and eat. The swimming pool is heated and set in the rear of the hotel, giving it a nice secluded feel. The pool area has a club-like feel to it with towels on hand, a large TV, and a refrigerator full of canned water. The rooms are pristine and clean, the furniture hand-selected and styled to where it feels like a place you can sleep, work, and lounge. The bathrooms are gorgeous with double sinks, a lit round makeup mirror, a walk-in spacious shower that can comfortably have 2 people in it, and a mirrored closet where you'll find bath robes and slippers. The beds are firm and comfortable, and the pillows feel alright while sitting up, but may not be for everyone for sleeping. Our group of 11 all shared the same comments of barely getting any sleep and feeling neck sore the next day and we came to the overall consensus that it was the pillows. Overall, it's a very solid, very classy hotel with charm and a gorgeous aesthetic. Staying there felt like home away from home.

My husband's company had a conference and as all hotels in this area do, Hotel Lucent raised their prices to almost $500 a night during the conference- this is a badly remodeled motel and even on conference weeks, not worth a quarter of that rate. I am giving two stars for the kindness of Eve at the front desk and the fact that it was a roof over our head. The good ends there. Please see attached pictures: the carpets are tearing, stained and faded; there are dirty handprints on the walls in the rooms; when we arrived we found feces in the toilet and broken glass in the bathroom sink. There was spilled/splashed food on the walls behind the desk/work station; an old, dusty coffee maker; no fitted sheets on beds; mold in the shower; a musty, dirty smell in the hallways and in our room; scraped and damaged furniture in the room and in the lobby area; a non-heated outdoor pool; a broken jacuzzi with no guest access; and two slime-covered "water stations" (they only provide bottled water once upon check-in), and the "mini-fridge" in our room was non-operational. We tried our best to find other accommodations once we realized the state of our room but by that time, all the hotels in the area had been reserved for the conference. I will say, once I kindly spoke with Eve about my concerns, she assured me that they would take care of the issue and while they did use some mold-killer in the shower and cleaned the feces off of the toilet's sides- our fresh towels still had lipstick and makeup marks on them from the prior guests' use; they left a dirty coffee cup on the table and didn't take out all the trash in the room. I asked if I could have some cleaning products to try and wipe the room down on my own but I was refused, I am sure this is due to liability and I understand but as a guest paying $500 a night, I would really have expected not to have to go to the Safeway next door and purchase my own cleaning supplies to try and get the room to a more comfortable level of cleanliness for myself, my husband and my child. I am baffled by the positive reviews and feel truly led astray.

The bathrooms are compartmentalized and well lit which I appreciate for makeup application. Tiny closet, but not a problem if you are only staying a short time. I would swear that the Stanford basketball team had the room above us (I usually request the top floor but was unable to this time as my husband was due at Stanford Medical for a procedure that kept him from taking the stairs (I never located an elevator from parking garage to the two floors.) There was some sort of mousse thing that was ok, but I didn't like it much. The gougères were my favorite. The second row was cucumber sandies, chicken on croissant and lobster on brioche toast. All were excellent. I don't like caraway though, so cucumber sandies weren't the best. They bring out a warm scone when they bring out your second tea selection (you get two). The hotel is located right by SLAC, tucked into a hillside setting in Menlo Park. The property feels peaceful, elegant, and very well maintained. Madera Restaurant offers a full upscale dining menu and is a great choice for lunch, dinner, a business meal, date night, or a special occasion. Madera Bar is perfect for cocktails, wine, and light bites in a more relaxed but still refined atmosphere. Bici Coffee is a nice option for coffee, pastries, or a casual stop for bikers if you do not want a full sit-down meal. Rosewood Sand Hill is also a nice place for a tea party or an afternoon gathering with friends. One of the best parts is the view from the hill. I like how you can partially see the highway from the restaurant, but you cannot really hear it, so the setting feels very calm and secluded. Occasionally, you can see some movement in the distance, but if you were not looking in that direction, you probably would not even notice it. Because of that, the whole place feels very private and relaxing. Visiting Rosewood Sand Hill feels like you have been transported somewhere away from Silicon Valley, even though you are actually right in the middle of it, just a walking distance from SLAC, the particle accelerator, and Zoox's autonomous vehicles. That contrast makes the experience even more interesting: you are surrounded by the Silicon Valley's technology and innovation, but the atmosphere feels secluded, quiet, luxurious, and almost like a retreat.

All the deets: We started our stay with complimentary EV charging and a golf cart ride to our cottage. From the moment we arrived, the service felt effortless and welcoming. No snobby or stuffiness. The room had an epon feel with high ceilings, a large walk-in closet, a spacious bathroom, and a balcony overlooking the lawn and fountain. It was the perfect spot to enjoy breakfast and if you get lucky maybe see some of the bunnies that run around the property. Next stop: the pool. Swim, eat, repeat. The staff regularly came around with complimentary tastings from the menu, and more than once we ended up ordering the item they brought - spicy tuna tostadas at the top of the list! The saltwater pool was fantastic, although I was glad I packed goggles(your eyes may not appreciate salty water it as much as the rest of you). The pool menu is relatively small but thoughtfully curated, with every item we tried delivering on quality and flavor. In the evening, we got ready and walked over to dinner at Madera. A separate review is coming, but dining on the deck while watching the sunset was a highlight of the stay. The halibut seemed to be the popular choice around us and looked incredible. Fork ordered the ribeye steak, while Spoon went with the mushroom ragù. Both dishes were excellent and a perfect end to the day. Final verdict: Rosewood Sand Hill delivers luxury without feeling stuffy. Between the beautiful grounds, attentive service, excellent food, and relaxing atmosphere, it's an easy recommendation for a staycation or special occasion.
