This is an old 1950s motorlodge on El Camino Real (which at one time served at Hwy 101) that has been renovated with up to date and stylish decor. The rooms are small but well appointed. The bathrooms are compartmentalized and well lit which I appreciate for makeup application. Tiny closet, but not a problem if you are only staying a short time. The floors are fake wood which does not help with noise abatement, and that is the main complaint I have for the property. I would swear that the Stanford basketball team had the room above us (I usually request the top floor but was unable to this time as my husband was due at Stanford Medical for a procedure that kept him from taking the stairs (I never located an elevator from parking garage to the two floors.) Parking is below ground level. There is a stairwell at the south end but there really should be an elevator. Handicapped people would have to park in front of the office for direct access to the property. The noise from the room above me (sounded like running and bouncing balls) deterred my two nights of sleep. For a short stay, and convenient location to Stanford Medical, this is the place to stay. It is convenient. But it is not quiet due to poor floor insulation, highway traffic and trains. read more

This is very convenient location to the Stanford Shopping Center. We walked over there. For dinner, we walked about 15-20 minutes to downtown Palo Alto. The motel is clean. Our room looks like it's been recently updated, and it looks like they were renovating the pool area and the tiles outside. Most rooms had a small outdoor table and 2 chairs in front of their doors. Ours, room 206, did not have a set because we were across from the elevator. The breakfast area is small and adjacent to the lobby. I assume some people took their food back to their rooms, and if the weather was nicer, back to those outdoor tables. Breakfast offering were pretty basic, but they did have a waffle maker and a yogurt machine. Parking is under the motel, with 7 foot clearance. This is a great value and location. read more

Best Western my ass. This is the Worst Western. There is nothing good or best about this place OTHER THAN the extremely nice man at the front desk. Between the daytime construction that is right outside the door to the constant train and traffic noise all night, nobody is getting any sleep here. It is so incredibly loud. I'd give this place half a star if I could, because who builds a hotel with paper thin walls? Between the honking cars at 2am and the guy in the room next to us hacking loogies and coughing all night with butchers hack, I've been unable to stay asleep for more than 5 mins. The hotel must be well aware of the poor accommodations because they provide plenty of ear plugs for your stay, in the room. Sadly, the ear plugs provided little to no benefit. It is terrible that this is where we had to retreat back to for "rest" in between exhausting all day Stanford Hospital visits. Very long, difficult days lead to even longer and more difficult nights. This was one of the worse places to stay! First you have to check in from the outside window,take sure you check in during the night. Walking into the hallway and into the room, the odor of mildew is overwhelming. There is no real blanket, I had to go buy one after the first night as I paid for 2 nights. The bed felt like sleeping on the box spring. It would have been more comfortable sleeping in my car. I caution anyone, don't waste not just your money but your peace of mind. read more

We stayed two nights and reserved two rooms, The whole experience was great. Our visit was for medical appointments at Stanford so the location was perfect and very convenient. The location was also great for many great restaurants that we enjoyed having dinner at and was pleased to be able to bring back any leftovers to our rooms because of having both a refrigerator and microwave. With the location being so close to Stanford it made it nice to be able to come back between appointments and relax out at the pool. EVERYTHING was very clean, the rooms, the pool, the eating area where breakfast was served every morning, the workout room and even the laundry room which we didn't plan on needing so we were glad to know it was there when we did end up needing it. And one of the best things about our stay was the friendliness and professionalism of the entire staff. We will definitely being recommending this location to our friends and family and will stay here again if we come back again. The rooms are decent. However, the auto light in the bathroom is overly bright and you can't turn it off from automatically turning on with motion. On top of that this is a motel not a hotel. There is no security and the walls are so thin you can hear someone sneeze on the street. Plus they have construction going on out front on the street all night that nobody warned us about. After a long drive we couldn't sleep all night due to the noise. I would never stay here again. Oh and the AC is in the bathroom area which makes no sense. read more

The room was very clean and nice and we were happy to see that it included a microwave, refrigerator and coffee maker. All of the staff was super friendly, especially Nicole and Pyrishna (Sorry I know I spelled that wrong!) both ladies went the extra mile for us too. The hotel is very close to Stamford Hospital, which was nice. It is close to a busy street and there is a train, but I did not feel like it was overly noisier or bother some at all. I appreciate the covered parking. the elevator is small, but it's not like there was a ton of people that needed to get in at a time. It was always just my husband and I. The pool area is very nice with a bathroom, shower, covered seating, handicap,accessibility, and a fire pit. I didn't love where the air conditioning was because it was under the bathroom vanity and it made the floor tile very cold and my legs cold, but I could live with it. And I don't think they realize that the conditioner that they have is not hair conditioner, but a different type of body wash. Again just a minor thing. And I do really appreciate, how they understand that if you are a family member of a Stanford patient and you need to suddenly leave early or add extra days how they are very accommodating and don't use it as an excuse to add a ton of fees! We also felt the breakfast had a good variety of items to choose from. The coffee machine has a ton of coffees you can choose from including lattes, cappuccinos, flat white, hot chocolate, or just regular coffee. This hotel was conveniently close to Standford Hospital which is where my mom was having treatment done at. For the price, I was very impressed with this hotel. All staff were very friendly, especially the young man at the front desk. I wish I would've gotten his name because he was very nice and professional. And even went out of his way to give me some milk for my baby, from the back (which was for breakfast). Our room was a double queen, very clean, and the sliding barn door in the room provided extra privacy between the sink and beds. The breakfast is what you expect from a "free continental breakfast" type hotel, but it was still good. I had a waffle, coffee, eggs (scrambled), and sausages. Oh! And a bagel for the road. My little one had cereal and yogurt. The only thing I didn't really like was that the parking was under the hotel, so in order to get all your belongings up, without using the stairs, is this very small, clostrophobic elevator. It was a bit of a hassle, but whatever. It was the only option since I was taking a stroller up and down and obviously was not able to use the stairs. But I would recommend this hotel to others based on the price, cleanliness, and location of this hotel. Especially if the reason for your trip is to be at Stanford hospital. I stayed here on a Friday night. Checking in was smooth and I was given a room quickly. The parking lot felt really cramped though, and the elevator was old (but functional). Very easy check in with friendly people but cleanliness is my top priority when picking a place to stay. I read so many reviews saying this place was clean but unfortunately that was not my experience. When we first entered our room, I looked at the bed and found hairs all around the pillows. After we requested the sheets to be cleaned, they moved us to another room. And though this new room's bed sheets seemed to be clean, the shower towels were full of hair. Hair everywhere!! Service here is great. Was looking for an affordable option for hotels in the Palo Alto area near work. This is more of a motel but everything is clean and in good shape. They sterilize card keys and the remotes. Coffee and cookies are available 24/7. Hot breakfast is free and served every morning. Breakfast is pretty simple (scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, waffles), definitely need to add salt and sauces to the food but it's better than what most places offer. The TV in my room didn't work, I couldn't turn the volume up, only down. I couldn't turn the channel, only channel down. So they brought me a different remote so I can change the channel but still can't turn up the volume. Even with the physical buttons on the TV. I asked for another room but was told there were no more rooms. But when I checked the Priceline app this hotel was listed and said there were 5 rooms available. While this might now have been a glamorous 5-star hotel, the staff made this experience extremely pleasant and memorable. The manager was extremely warm and passionate about providing an incredible experience for his guests. At breakfast, the staff welcomed each diner with a smile, offered to refill coffee, fix up a waffle or two, and even set their table. I had a nightmare experience with rude, inconsiderate neighbor guests all night long - now into the 6:00 a.m. hour. People knocking on the door and coming and going in and out all night. I should have called the police, but I mistakenly trusted the staff to properly deal with it after complaints made at 11 pm, 2 am, and 4 am. (And it's not as if they were quiet in between!) Consequently, I'm totally mentally and physically exhausted on a day I truly need to be productive. Aaaah! Worse yet, when I sent emails and left calls for the management, they were never returned! Small, dark rooms, the sink drain was broken so I wedged a plastic knife in to let it drain... when I arrived and took the only stairs from the parking garage up to my room, I had to pass dumpster area on the way up that was overflowing with garbage everywhere. My wife booked this place to stay during my surgery at Stanford. The desk clerk Michael was very very nice and accommodating. The room was nice and clean too. The only complaint was with the AC unit which was situated under the sink/vanity and if you closed the door, the cool air is cut off to the rest of the living area. We were going to complain but I told my wife to keep the television off because I could feel the heat radiating from it and once turned off, the room was able to cool down. My wife even said the kid actually got cold the second night. The room was very clean but I could hear a train and some street traffic but unless you stay at the Hilton, you're going to hear traffic and people. You may not know but Palo Alto, Menlo Park, the whole dang silicon valley is very pricy. You'll see motorhomes parked along El Camino Real because housing is so expensive even professionals have a hard time finding affordable housing. I was not able to have the breakfast because of my pending surgery that afternoon but my wife said the kid thoroughly enjoyed the eggs, bacon, sausages, potatoes and the other regular breakfast fare the two subsequent mornings. The doctor planned for me to stay in ICU one night then two or more additional nights in a regular room. Once the doctor went inside and found the procedure would cause further damage, he aborted the procedure. Once I heard that I was very disappointed because now additional strokes loom in my future.....anyways, since the procedure was aborted, my recovery was faster so I was released after the second day which gave me great concern because of the pain and nausea I was suffering with a 3+hour drive back to Elk Grove. My wife asked Michael if she can cancel two nights and he was very understanding and refunded her the balance which he was not obligated to do since my wife booked through a third party (AARP). Yeah, the rooms and walls are thin and you can hear street traffic and a train but if you're just a middle of the road family like us can't afford to spend $400 a night at the Hilton you'll just have to settle with what you're willing to pay or can afford. We'd recommend this place but just keep the TV off if the temperature is hot. read more

This was one of the worst hotel experiences I have had. The hotel was under construction so there was loud banging through out the day. The elevator was something out of 1960s. Their parking lot was below the rooms with a single entrance and exit, which was on a hill so visibility was minimal when entering or exiting. And beuse of the construction there was a big dumpster blocking one of the lanes. When I went to leave the front desk man seemed incompetent. Couldn't print my receipt until I demanded to have it. Then he was able to print it. He also couldnt hear, I tried to give him my email to email the recipt and he got it wrong multiple times, and its simple its my first middle and last name. Ugh I am glad I didn't have to pay for this and that my work is picking up the bill. read more

This is solid 3-star motel undergoing remodeling. It was fine for us during this trip. The recently remodeled room with comfortable queen bed was sufficient for our needs. The shower was great, the remodeled bathroom was nice, and the TV must have had 1000 channels. The toilet flushed like the takeoff of the Space Shuttle. The room was reasonably quiet considering the motel is on El Camino Real near Stanford Shopping Centter, the train station, and not far from US Hwy. 101. The price is modest (weekdays at $116/night) except on Sunday when I think the $179/night price is unreasonable. The below ground private parking is great. We would stay here again for the same short trip. I probably would not stay here for a week or longer unless I was by myself. One comment: the elevator MUST get remodeled. SOON! It isn't attractive, VERY small, and just doesn't given the confidence of safety. We found ourselves looking at each other as to whether or not we wanted to use it at all. read more

I have stayed at this Best Western before and have had a few good experiences. This last visit was terrible! It was very cold in the room upon arrival. We turned the heater on and thought that was that. I informed the front desk about the freezing cold room and he assured me it would heat up eventually! Not only did it NOT heat up, the room was actually colder in the morning than it was when we first arrived! Also, our toilet did not work and we didn't know until it was TOO late!! I let the desk know about the toilet as well in the AM and was told he would look into both matters and see what he could do for me. I called 3 different times after returning home and still have NOT heard back. I stayed on March 15 and today is May 18!!!!!!! read more

Meh. A facility that brags about being non-smoking should not cater to smokers by placing tables with ashtrays right outside of the hotel room doors along the outside walkways. The front desk staff was terrific. The cleaning staff was terrible. Checkout time is 11AM. Twice, around 10:10AM, while I was naked and in the shower, cleaning staff attempted to enter my room. I had not checked out. The "Privacy Please" card was prominently displayed in my key card slot. Unacceptable. When I picked up the telephone to inform the front desk of this aggravation, the phone was dead. There was one free power outlet beneath the desk. One. In the year 2010. The mini fridge reeked of onions. When I was leaving after my one-night stay, the stairway was blocked with yellow Caution tape. No actual danger was observed. I had my first (and last) stay at the Best Western. I work for a well-known nearby tech company, and am frequently on business travel in the SF Bay Area. The Best Western is simply the worst hotel I have ever stayed at on business in the Bay Area. I unconditionally disrecommend it for business travelers, as do nearly all of my colleagues who have stayed there. It is astonishing that anyone can charge $250/night for such a hotel. * NOISE - The rooms are so noisy that Best Western literally provides earplugs. I've stayed at several other hotels on El Camino Real and near Caltrain. I've never seen any remotely this noisy before. Simply put, this hotel isn't noisy because of its location -- but because it appears to have single-paned windows and insufficient soundproofing. I came to work nearly every day tired and sleep-deprived -- the opposite of what you go to a business hotel for. * CLIMATE CONTROL - They have really, really loud 1960s-style hotel room air conditioning system. This means you have to figure out by trial & error what position on the knob maps to the temperature you want to sleep at (you can't just set a numeric temperature and actually get it). * ONGOING CONSTRUCTION - When I came home on my third night, my hotel room absolutely reeked of an acrylic fume, like rubber cement. The smell was so strong that the hotel room was effectively uninhabitable. After conversation, the only hotel staff member on duty moved me to a room that was technically under construction. When I woke up in the morning, all of my clothing continued to reek of the pungent acrylic fumes. When I asked if they could find a way to clean my clothing before I left for work in 2 hours, they pointed me to a coin-operated machine that I could pay my own money to remove the hotel's fumes. (It also didn't occur to their hotel front desk person - who never smiled - that as a business traveler, I might not be carrying several dollars in quarters around.) I ended up buying new clothing to wear for the day. I also e-mailed the manager to ask for the hotel to intervene and make it right. I did not receive a reply. If you are in Silicon Valley on business, do not try to save money staying here. Your time and sanity are too valuable. read more

This was our first and only time we will stay here. Very loud, walls and windows must be paper thin. Even had ear plugs on our nightstand when we arrived for us. But then the sink was horrible cracked splitting atleast 4 different ways and they caulked? Over the cracks to seal them. Spa was also closed due to maintenance or something. No major deal, but wished they would mention things like that when you book your room. Even at my AAA discounted rate of $250 a night you'd think they could afford to replace the sink. And when I mentioned something about it this morning the girl up front just kinda blew it off as no big deal... As a business traveler, I am accustomed to unpleasant surprises at budget motels. This newly remodeled and attractive space was among the worst. No amount of glass-tile accents or fresh paint will make up for the half inch gaps around a door to a noisy walkway. Add paperthin walls, hollow walkways and noisy plumbing, and it sounds like strangers are in your room, day and night. They shower in your room. Tap dance in your room. And worst of all, drive six lanes of non-stop traffic just feet from your room. There's a reason why the hotel puts earplugs on the night stand. This hotel - at least my room -- has clearly been decorated since many of the other reviewers posted. It no longer reeks of mold or construction adhesive. Prettying the place up did not make it a better motel. Prices are in Palo Alto, and many will be forced to stay here. If clean and dry is enough for, go right ahead and make your reservations. But beware, this motel offers all the peace and privacy of a nylon tent, hastily erected at a busy intersection. read more

I work for a company nearby and had to stay at this hotel. This hotel feels more like a Motel than a real Hotel. There is no gated access (details to follow). But here is my experience: - first off, $350/day for motel quality is outrageous. - mainly problems with their housekeeping. They left my door wide open (or there was a break in). This hotel has no gated access so literally anyone on the street could have come into my room. According to the manager this is the 2nd time in a 6-month period. - rooms have no safe-deposit box. - housekeeper does NOT replenish supplies : shampoo, soap, paper napkins, bottled water, etc - housekeeper does NOT vacuum the floor. - water pressure in the tub is extremely low. It's like showering from a weak running tap. - walls/windows are thin and insulation is poor. Room is very cold unless I crank up the heater all the way up to 83F [visited in Feb 2019] - no front-desk service after 10pm-ish on the good side, + front-desk staff was friendly and helpful + free cookies at the front desk was tasty Not worth the trouble and risk staying here. read more

Our stay here was wonderful. The hotel is very clean. The rooms are spotless. The staff is amazing!! I cannot speak enough about the staff. I overheard that Michael is the new owner, well he is the most welcoming gentleman ever. As my daughter and I were eating out complementary breakfast he made sure we didn't need anything. There is no management in this hotel. Don't expect any smile from the staff. She let me waited 2 hours in the lobby with my 6 month old baby sleeping in my arms. She is just not smart enough to ask the cleaning lady to clean my room first since I was waiting. And after finally it turns 3pm, the "time to check in", I told her to check if my room was clean to check in, she moved and got my key. ( obviously the room was ready before 3pm).
