The one at Fourth and Market is frankly pretty bleak. ADA access is not good, the stuff they sell is not more worthy than Dollar Store crapola. The one that used to be in downtown Berkeley was far better experience, and everything is on street level. Customer service could be better. Rude associates but 1 pleasant cashier. Was looking through rugs and folded them back neatly on the shelves. An associate comes up and picks up the stack we were looking at and moves it a few feet to the right on the shelf only to rearrange it back to how we had it. Was a little confused as to why since it was clear we were browsing through it and were fixing the rest of the rugs. But she seemed unpleasant and annoyed. Overheard her talking to another associate basically blaming us that we were making a mess when we actually made the rugs look better. Better off driving to a different location. This Hispanic lady on may 19 Around 8 pm was vary rude towards me In the fitting room I went there to try new clothes and she said I can only bring 8 clothes to try out , I said okay I left 2 clothes on the side and went ti change them then I was going to bring some back she said you have bring the hangers for all of them I went back to the fitting room and mixed up the hangers so according to her she said that's not the right hangers for the clothes in a rude manner and Refuse to let me buy an item because of this situation so I threw the clothes at her walked away requested for supervisors and told her I'm not coming back this is not how you should treat someone that's her job to make sure the clothes and the hangers in the right place not me I'm not working there ! read more

I used to be a big fan of Ross, but lately some of the stores are a hit or miss especially in the baby section. I've been to one particular Ross and they had the same baby clothes for at least 4 months, and when I asked the lady about it she said they rarely get infant clothes and what they do have is very limited. This location had a little more selection, but wasn't impressed enough to make a purchase. The cashier was very rude!!! I understand you want to get the customers in and out, but at the same time you still need to provide good customer service. Once I was at her station she wasn't sociable at all. I handed her my gift card to scan and she grabbed it and gave it back and told me to use the machine, only to snatch it back to scan it. It really took all I had not to say a few words to her, but I was over it at this point. She scanned the card for my purchase and before she could hand me the receipt good, she had already called the next customer. Terrible terrible customer service! Ross at the Crossroads Plaza is fantastic!!! The store has everything and anything you might need or didn't know you needed, from all kinds of clothing to athletic gear to hats to purses to jewelry to kitchenware to shoes, etc. For example, I have gotten multiple tops there, as well as a warm Columbia beige fleece jacket! Ross is a great store with friendly staff, and has a large variety of unique finds, so a store visit is like a treasure hunting experience. They also have great deals and bargains because they sell quality items at great prices. Ross is also located at a prime location at Crossroads Plaza, which is a beautiful shopping / dining plaza with a mix of national retailers, contemporary brands, and distinctive shops and dining. This place is my go to for great deals, though you have to search for them through the racks and racks of clothing it feels like treasure when you stumble upon these great finds. Awesome for parents with growing kiddos that seem to need clothes and shows every month. You can also find amazing home decor that would cost you so much more if you purchased anywhere else. A rather clean and well organized Ross. The store is not very big compare to the ones I have visited before, thus the selection could be a little slim. Nevertheless, what they have are pretty solid. I walked in and immediately was drawn to the shoes section even though I was there to purchase something else. I thought to my self that there weren't much going on in the shoe section. Then as I browse, within 5 minutes I had my eyes on a pair of nude pumps and two pairs of flats... Then I proceed to find a super cute dress for $5! I'm very bad at shopping for other people... I always end up buying stuff for myself too... I didn't have much luck in the kitchen section. They have plenty of pans and pots, but that just wasn't what I needed. Saturday night around 6:30pm and Ross employee, Robert Dear, is the only employee in the store and the checkout line is looooooong. So long that some people surrender their finds and leave the store but most stay because as Mr. Dear is pounding through the checkout process, he occasionally talks aloud to the crowd over his shoulder that he appreciates everyone's patience and that he'll get to everyone just as soon as he can. I would typically be one of those screw-this-I"m outa-here people but I found myself rooting for the guy and so were many people in line. When I finally got to the counter, he thanked me again for my patience and aggressively started checking out my many items. Of course the process is ultra-cumbersome because of the removal of security tags. His name tag says 'Dear' and I asked him if that was his first name and he proudly told me that it was Robert. Mr. Robert Dear is the epitome of outstanding customer service and Ross is fortunate to have him on staff. Geez, help the guy out...hire more Robert Dear's already. His tenacity, professionalism and commitment are second to none. P.S. Next time I shop, I will ascertain the number of cashiers when I enter the store and if only one, will leave immediately. read more

I love coming to this Ross, in fact I come pretty frequently. Today I came in to grab a few things and checked out right away, no line, great! However I was not acknowledged AT ALL by the woman behind the register. I stood there maybe 1 or 2 minutes while she proceeded to talk on her Bluetooth (took me a sec to figure out she wasn't just talking to herself) and put a pair of pants on a hanger...I mean COME ON. Customer service skills from this person clearly non-existent!! I read her name tag but not mentioning the name because it's Christmas and I really don't want to be responsible for any person losing their job no matter what time of year. However, I do believe management should correct this behavior immediately. I have met some really awesome people at this location and love coming here! But one thing I just cannot understand is working in this industry and not even bothering to acknowledge your customers AT ALL!! I mean not even so much as a "I'll be right with you" or hell, even stopping what you are doing! I wait tables (also have worked plenty of retail) and trust me, I have had my fair share of bad days, not to mention grumpy customers but if it's one thing I have learned, NEVER would I ever continue what I'm doing and ignore a customer! This store is nothing but a children's playground. You would think that the parents would control their kids in a retail store, but they just tune them out and do their own thing. Kids were running around screaming, bouncing balls, and actually saw candy that was spit out on the floor. I casually told one of the workers that they have a regular playground don't they? His response was "yes, unfortunately they let them do that". I felt sorry for him as I know he was frustrated. The true definition of this store is FARM ANIMALS!! I almost had a panic attack in the checkout line just waiting and listening to all the disturbing yelling and screaming. Tighten up ROSS, have some integrity. My gf and I stopped in to pick up a few essentials after a long day of moving her to the area. We arrived at 9:56 (closing is at 10:30), and the manager Fred ran up to tell us that they were closing in 25 min ok, no prob, we knew that already and were just getting some pans and a shower curtain etc. but he then proceeded to follow us around and pop up repeatedly staring at us and then told us again that then closed in ten minutes at 10:15. Ok. First of all, stop telling me the wrong times. Second of all, stop following me dude. Third, it's posted what time closing is, you told me when I came in, why are you harassing me? He then stood at the front staring at people checking out and commenting about how he was ready to go home as everyone in line checked out (rather than helping mind you) Fred, you better hope you never work in the hospitality industry like we do because that behavior would never fly. read more

I love this place, I found it to be one of the most affordable places i can get dresses, shoes and even household items.

I must say this is the first time that I have had success with purchasing good items from a Ross. This location is new and has a good selection of fall and winter clothing. I'm not mentioning what I always purchase from Ross because its a secret and I want them all to myself..I know its a little selfish..haha..but really customer service here is pretty good.
