I came to this store yesterday while I was in town. The store was nice and clean. I find the prices here are very reasonable. The items you find sometimes are a hit or miss. I was hoping to find some shiseido cream, but didn't have the one that I was looking for at this store. Every store gets a bit of different stuff or inventory. I'm a loyal Ross customer and usually have good experiences, but at the El Cerrito location my cart was removed while I briefly stepped away to use the bathroom. Other unattended carts were left alone, yet mine was singled out. When I asked staff about it, the supervisor and another employee argued with me instead of helping. Today I had so bad experience with supervisor name ALEXA at El Cerrito Plaza Ross store around 2:30 PM, regarding returning my item. Even though I gave her receipt, she said she needs the Ross tag. I just purchased that item yesterday. She asked me so many questions and told me she needs to see the camera even though I gave her the actual purchase receipt and the item. She made me to wait a long time and I was with my kids. I was so disappointed by her behavior. I have never experienced that type of situation where the receipt was not enough and the item was sealed. Please advise her that's not how you should treat a customer. 15 people in line at 2pm on a Thursday afternoon because there's always only 2 cashiers. There's never a right time to shop here and the prices are too high for a Ross, especially the furniture that is always run down. For the constant heavy security presence, at least 2 at a time, I wish they would invest in at least 1 more cashier for the customer service experience. You will spend at least 20 minutes in line if you want to buy anything so give yourself time. read more

Came on a Sunday afternoon after going to another Ross, lol. I found some cute booties, Addias, and Puma sneakers. I was kinda surprised at the Addias since they were only marked to $44.99 but they were cute so I bought them. The selection was okay. I found a few other clothing items to purchase. Shout out to Loss Prevention who offered to help me when I was struggling to take the hangers off the clothes. I was carrying all my items in my arms, haha. Located in a nice little plaza, compared to nearby Rosses and I would say that this one is fairly clean. Not a huge selection of product but it can keep you in there for awhile. Parking is always convenient as there's a parking lot out front. Cleanliness is a 4/5 for Ross. Pretty much you can find some steals here which is awesome! read more

I don't want to blame the whole store but.. Ima call them out on their sh*t, at least the employee that rang me up. After purchasing all my clothes/ shoes and taking like 3 steps towards the door, i heard one of my clothes tags fall to the ground right... So I look down and there's hella tags on the ground. I wanted to find it and stood there searching for a moment and the cashier whole rang me up said "don't worry about your tag you can return it" I kept looking briefly after because I didn't trust that answer. Maybe I'd get store credit but what if I needed my money back period. Anyways.. So now I GET HOME and I have NO tags on ANY of the stuff I bought. Damn like for real ?? SNAKE probably doesn't want people returning things. Luckily I feel everything will fit okay but what in the in the actual hell?!? Like no tags on ANYTHING.. all the items including my shoes. Be aware when shopping here people. This was super unfortunate.. and like something I wouldn't think to even THINK of. *Minus one star: Either the place is understaffed, or all the employees are sitting in the break room at the same time. Came here on a Saturday evening with three other people. All four of us scattered to different areas of the store to find an employee to help us look for an item and it took nearly 15 minutes. *Minus one star: Unwillingness to help. When an employee was located, it was an instant "I don't know," followed by our request to check inventory in the back or for incoming shipments. Her answer was for us to come back and look because she just "don't know." *Minus one star: The aisles are in disarray and items are not put back properly. In one aisle, the rugs were strewn all over the floor instead of in the aisles, but I guess rugs belong on the floor? *Minus one star: Mislabeled departments. The maternity section is just a maternity section on paper. They had none of the maternity items that we asked about and the clothes in that section are for maybe if you're in the first half of the first trimester (in other words, hardly growing or showing yet). It should be labeled just "section." Maybe they have the maternity sign up just for show? Also the jewelry section is not labeled-- but they claim to have one. I'll believe it when I see it. A pathetic excuse for a store. It is disorganized, messy, hard to find things, understaffed, and appears to have disinterested management, if any management at all. Either they do not use or train staff to put things back in their proper places or the staff is just plain lazy with no work ethic. Several sections in the store were in disarray. When I asked a staff member if they carry a certain item she said she didn't know and could not look it up because she said they get random things in. What an inefficient way of doing business. What few employees there were, were not helpful at all and didn't appear to be very bright or intelligent. We only came to this store because my daughter was told it might carry a certain item that was hard to find elsewhere. Well guess what, it was impossible to find it here and no one was helpful. I've never had this problem at Marshall's, Target, or literally any other of their competitors, which all offer a MUCH better shopping experience anyway, so I see no reason to come back here again, drink in hand or no. Avoid this store on the weekends! It took me 3 tries before I could actually shop there. The first 2 times, the line was just insane, going all the way to the back of the store. The 3rd time, I came in on Monday, mid-morning - few shoppers, short line, efficient service. Overall, this Ross was decent. I've seen other stores with a larger underwear and intimates section, but their array of dresses was pretty amazing. They also have a large "women's" sizes section. I think they could have done more to have a larger selection of accessories and bath products, but what they did have was of average quality. I left with a nice sweater and a casual dress. read more

I think their clothing section (for juniors and dresses) is a little sparse and their shoe section could be more stocked, but I am extremely happy with my purchases today. The staff isn't too friendly but then again I'm only in and out of this store. I'm always able to find great deal. Horrible experience at El Cerrito Plaza location. I was overcharged. It is hard to believe at Ross stores. I purchased a luggage for $84.99. and the tags were attached to the zipper and I couldn't check the inside. After I got home I checked the inside and there was a tag for the price of $69.99. The next day went back to the store and told the manager about it. She said, I should have brought the luggage to get the difference. So the next day unpacked the luggage and I took it there in a rainy day. A different manager showed up, named " Norma". She barely could speak English and with broken English told me the $69.99 tag wasn't belonged to my bag. So she didn't honor the previous manager statement and acted that I came up with the inside tag. Humiliating situation, and dealing with such unprofessional person, repeating the same sentence over and over again. Waste of time and money. Ross should pay more attention to their store's customers services and management. I left the store with sadness and angry that I had to make 3 trips and dealt with the employees that they didn't know anything about customer service. I'd give it no stars if it wasn't for the Loss Prevention gentleman trying to help me. The women at the front kept saying they didn't know anything as if they didn't work there. I wanted to try something on that clearly has sensors on it. Also wanted to see if the sensors wore damaging the product. I get it they want to defer theft but they shouldn't ruin product in the process. But I waited and still nothing while the gentleman in loss prevention tried to continue to help. I ended up leaving after being patient for so long. The woman acted as if they didn't want to be there or didn't want to help. When I even asked one of the ladies they just didn't respond to me basically ignored me and spoke Spanish the the other woman employee. Have you ever wondered what the term 'craphole' means? Well, look no further! My mother thought it would be a good gesture to get me a gift card here, and while her heart was in the right place, I was not. This craphole is awful. The staff is slow, there are security guards everywhere (because the ed hardy knock off tees are THAT important) and the store itsself is a mess. I literally can't be here without getting a migrane. When I go in here I have to remind myself that Ross fills the space between a thrift store and a mall department store; with that in mind, it fulfills its role. The product assortment is rather haphazard and only moderately organized - sections are marked and subdivided by size. This is fine if you're just browsing, but makes it tough if you want to try, say, a particular shirt in a couple sizes. It's not just basics and dubious shirts though; I found several nice dress shirts at prices below the outlet stores. Staff attitude ranges from indifferent to tired-but-friendly. Of course, that assumes you find one - they seem chronically short-staffed, especially at the registers. Yesterday was fine but the couple other times I've come in, massive lines slowly snake their way forward, spanning half the store. Still, when most everything is marked down 60% from MSRP, you have to expect some of that. So, if your time and frustration-tolerance outbalance saving a few buck, you'll be better off at Sears; however, if you have the patience, this can be a good shopping alternative. read more

Situated in the big plaza on San Pablo Ave, this Ross is a must visit for locals and in Berkeley/Albany/Richmond/El Cerrito area (wow that's a mouthful). Location aside, this Ross for less provides everything you need for cheap, inexpensive spending. I've found that I was able to get most of the items I'm shopping for at this location. Stopped in here last night to buy a watch for a friend as a Christmas present... 1. Waited 15 minutes to get someone to unlock the watch case. 2. The price tag was 'blacked out' and therefore we had to ask how much the watch cost. 3. Waited another 10 minutes as the employee spoke, in Spanish, to the jewelry department manager on the phone in the backroom. She was on break and refused to come out, though she was the only one, apparently, who could figure out what the discount price was (Spanish only relevant because the conversation was vulgar and it was assumed we couldn't understand it). 4. Were told that it was the full price (That was blacked out). 5. Was told to get in the back of the line that now formed 15 people deep for the register, after already being involved in this process for 30 minutes. 6. Had to argue with the counter person 10 minutes who couldn't figure out how to override the blacked out price to ented the POS number manually. 7. This ross, as all ross stores, was in complete disarray, with only general categories being loosely followed. However, I went there in order to test my friend Nancy's claim that they have all the same things as BedBath and Beyond, but at a fraction of the price. Well, they didn't have EVERYTHING that BBB has, and I'm not sure I would use a pillow purchased from Ross, but the kitchen ware, provided you dig was actually chalk full of great cheap things. Kitchen Aid and Calephon, so I was happy. I will be going there for my basters, cake decorating kits, wine glasses, measuring cups and bakeware in the future. My mom is an interesting Persian. Apparently she got all packed up and ready to jet across the country to visit her only son. She thought that my stepdad had put her luggage in the car. He thought she had. They get to the airport and realize there is no luggage. It is still on the curb next to the house. She says, "fuck it, I'm going anyway." So basically, a Ross shopping spree went down. Yea, this Ross kinda sucked. I do love the random stuff that you can buy at Rosses. I bought an ab-roller thing ($7) and a waterproof face groomer ($9). Prior to entering this Ross, I had no idea I was in the market for either. Although they have random (kinda awesome) items, they don't have simple clothing. My mom couldn't even find a decent hoodie in "mom" size. Whatever. My face is now MO groomed though...and the item I used to groom it, is in fact, waterproof. read more

Well, it's Ross. You should know where this is going. Basically, you learn to expect the chaos, just like Nordstrom Rack, DSW, Forever 21, Walmart, and the like. People just go bananas for deals, and especially right now since an unstable economy isn't quite enough to break our unhealthy addiction to shopping and accumulating "stuff", but I digress. I can only speak for myself, but this store DOES contain some costume finds. In fact, I found on of those trendy bow headbands with a lace veil ($3.99) as well as a leotard type piece ($12.99) making up for crucial pieces in my Lady GaGa Halloween costume. This was much cheaper than comparable items I put on hold at Buffalo Exchange, and those were used! There are some dig-worthy items to be found here, no doubt. Just arrive with plenty of patience, or jacked up on your stimulant of choice so you can hone in and concentrate on uncovering whatever it is you're trying to find.
