I have found so many great bargains here over the years. You have to do some hunting to find quality and style clothes but it's worth it. I got 12 great, name brand work separates for $150. Their furniture section is small but there were a few gorgeous pieces. Live wood end tables, wooden desk, etc. While I searched, and at check out, the staff was friendly and helpful and...now I can afford to go out to eat too! (I added photo of some hysterical shoes. I'm a little disappointed with this store compared to other locations I've been to in Daly City and San Francisco where I live. I came here because the Ross on Geary Blvd near my house recently closed. This location had a better toy selection compared to the one by my house but the clothing selection for women was disappointing. I will come back once they get more inventory. The other reviews I can tell is either a hit or miss when it comes to home goods and clothes. With the Ross where I live closer this location, Daly City and downtown are my options now. read more

I just left the Ross Dress for Less store in Novato, and I couldn't wait to tell you what a positive experience I had. I was making a return from another Ross Store and there was some difficulty in that return (probably my fault). The Returns Associate, Susanna, who was helping me was very helpful, patient, humble, but ultimately unable to navigate this particular return. Computers, Arghhh ! No problem! She Called for manager. Manager Michael was cheerful and professional and empathetic to my plight. With some computer prestidigitation and customer service expertise Michael was able to finish the return. Voila! The store was spotless, everything neat and organized, and well marked. Generally, we like Ross Stores; you never know what you might find..... but I'm going to make a point of shopping here at Vintage Oaks Ross Store whenever I'm around. Great store, great team, great prices. read more

Tons of parking. Well situated in Vintage Oaks. The staff tries to keep the merchandise well displayed. Unfortunately, the customers are ill mannered tossing things; dropping them on the floor, etc. Go here when you have tons of time. This was a sad store. I've been to many of their stores and this one was not very well stocked. I went to the baby and toddler section to find almost nothing, however they did have a large amount of housewares. I didn't really spend a lot of time looking here because there wasn't much to see. We picked up a homeless friend from the hospital this evening, and because he has COPD, and a lung infection, he was in need of a jacket and a blanket. We walked in to Ross, and immediately, the loss prevention lady (blonde) started to follow him; I turned back and said "he's with us" and she stopped walking. Once our friend picked out a jacket and blanket we proceeded to the check stand where four people stood around yapping, and one person worked the register. We were the only people in line for fifteen minutes. This place has horrible service!!! read more

Came in with my dad because he want to return some pants. Employee tells him to come up to his register at customer service then he sees his manager staring at him and realizes there are customers in the other line that were there before us. Obviously his manager was upset instead of continuing on he then (tells us like if it were our fault) that he has a line waiting for him and that we would have to wait. My dad and ask him what he wanted us to do. The employee pulls the receipt out of my dad's hand and starts giving a lot of lip for no reason!! Then the manager accuses my dad of throwing the pants when the pants were already on the counter!! My dad says he would like to speak to a manager and the manager was there and says well I'm the manager what do you want to do.. my dad said well obviously I want to talk to you and she starts I'm being rude as well, unbelievably rude! She literally lied to our face with false accusations. You can tell they were both stressed because they were busy but that's not our fault we were doing what we were told the whole time. The male employee the whole time trying to intimidate my dad. We say OK will just leave peacefully and then the manager tries to taunt us on the way out??! We weren't even talking/looking at her!! Lord help me, I LOVE ME SOME ROSS. LOVE LOVE LOVE. My old housemate told me over 10 years ago that I should own stock in Ross because I spend so much money there, and she was right. In the City I was a devoted habitue of all Rosses (downtown, Van Ness, Potrero, Geary, Sloat), though I preferred some (Sloat! Big ups!) to others ('Russian Ross' on Geary, no dresses, wtf?). But THIS Ross just BLOWS. Blows, blows, blows. It's fine for housewares - great, in fact - but the clothes aren't all that and the shoe selection is just DEPRESSING. Store was clean and organized, but not very well stocked. Many Ross stores the employees look burned out and depressed. I actually had a good experience with the customer service reps. However the manager could benefit from a review of customer service. As I was talking with the cashier, the manager grumpily reminds her employee to make sure the line does not get longer than 3 people. There were two people in line behind me (not there when I had approached) and the reason I was still at the counter was because the machine was not accepting my credit card swipe. I tried 3 times, and the cashier tried once before manually entering in the number. Maybe next time she should think about seeing what the issue is before barking orders and heading to the back. A smile, a friendly question, an appreciation for the customers' patience goes a long way in making a shopping experience enjoyable (I guess that is expecting too much). Love Ross, hate this store. I have walked out of this store too many times to count but today may be the last time. Shopping at Ross, where great bargains await, should be fun but this store doesnt have enough cashiers. Today around lunch time, one cashier and one security person. The line was over 8-10 frustrated people waiting. They may have few shoplifters - with security equal to cashiers - but without cashiers they are losing paying customers. All Ross stores have their highlights: Marin City has great shoes and clothes, The Canal has great men's stuff and home wares and hair stuff Novato has well.....no focus. Focus Already! Yikes. I go to the Ross in Marin City every once in awhile, and I leave the store having bought at least one item. They are fairly well stocked and the prices are really low. I thought that the Ross in Vintage Oaks would probably be even better, considering they are so close to Marshall's, Old Navy, Target, etc... Boy, was I wrong.The day I went, there was very little merchandise, everything was picked through and scattered about. The salespeople were gruff. It smelled funny. The housewares all seemed to be sticky (?) , and it was just a depressing visit all around. Couldn't wait to get out of there. Why two stars? The security guy was very friendly, and on my way out I saw him helping a disabled person with the door and his bags. read more

I have been shopping at this Novato store for many years and enjoy the prices and selection they have in clothes which varies from time to time. This is the only reason I have shopped there because their customer service is terrible. I cannot remember a time that I have entered the store and there was a long line. It doesn't matter what time or day of the week the lines are atrocious. Generally, I just allot an entire morning or afternoon to allow for shopping and just standing in line. There are times though when I have to shop for an item at the last minute and these times the wait in line would be horrendous. I have never seen a store manager. That person seems to be somewhere in the back and they communicate with the employees in front of the store via headsets. Yesterday, I was in the store in line. I asked for the manager several times to get more than one person working at the register. They told me that they were working on it. After 15 minutes or so one person came back from break but didn't seem to rush back or know (or care) what she was supposed to do. There was another employee working on retagging merchandise but should be able to work the registers as well, but never seems to bother. After sometime another young woman came on a register. When I asked for the manager I had to wait for them to come out, but finally got tired of waiting -- already late to where I was supposed to go. I have done my time working retail at various stores over the years. I know how difficult it can be being on your feet with lines of customers and returns. I have worked the busiest days of the years for shopping. These employees act like there isn't an economic downturn. They see a line there is no sense of urgency and no apologies. I blame the management, who obviously doesn't care to come out to pitch in. If the manager doesn't care, why should the employees care, huh? If I was the manager, I would be out there and if I saw a line I would tell customers "Thank you for waiting, I will be opening another register." Then get on a register and model how you provide customer service that you would want to experience. Bargain prices shouldn't mean you get bad customer service. In this economy, I am sure there are plenty of people who would love to work and have a work ethic. I will be following this up with a letter to corporate headquarters and the regional manager. read more

This evening I experienced some of the worst racial profiling, discrimination, and prejudice I have ever experienced. Throughout my entire experience in the store, many sales associates and security followed me and my family physically around the store. When we got to the checkout area to make our purchases, the women doing security came around the counter to look at us very closely (while not maintaining social distancing WHATSOEVER) to see if anyone in my family had anything in their hands. My family and I are not criminals and deserve to be able to shop without feeling like so. I urge POC people to stay far away from this store. Get it together Ross. read more

I love a bargain and window shopping. This place provides an opportunity for both. I can browse around at random home goods and clothing and yet not feel awful for anything I do purchase because the prices are fantastic. Sure, from time to time this store can be messy (but shoppers should really look at each other for that--I've seen some folks who trash the toy and rug section without a care), but it is a great place to find something to wear or decorate my house with. I found a great deal this time on a play dough set and puzzle box for my cousin's girl while stocking up on scented candles. The only criticism I have for this place is the lack of check out staff. I recommend coming either when they open or near closing time to avoid the lines. I can't wait for the next hunt here. read more

I was driving down the freeway when I saw a woman on the side of the road waving her arms, I pulled over to see what was the matter. This woman turned out to be an employee at Ross. She expressed to me that she had such a bad migraine she couldn't drive anymore. When asked where she was coming from she said she'd just gotten off work - she tried to leave early but her manager wouldn't let her. Her migraine was debilitating and it really says something that she couldn't even drive home. What kind of store makes their employees work when they are feeling this ill? After I dropped her off at her house, she expressed she was going to ask her husband to take her to the emergency room. I feel as though Ross is taking advantage of this hard working woman to make her work when she should be in the hospital. As an EMT, I feel particularly empathetic towards this woman's situation. Please treat your employees with more respect! read more

Yes there is an issue with enough cashiers and/or floor associates but honestly its likely for other reasons than just laziness. There are great treasures here though especially in the home dept. Not sure what people's definition of dirty or dingy is but that is severly exaggerated, And also lines of "15 people or more" is again exaggerated, maybe at christmas but its has never been that amount on a day to day basis. Also another mentioned an experience with a "store manager" which does not describe that person at all. It is an extreme misrepresentation. PS buying something that has been used or worn, is because some loser, thief switched out merchandise, and this is known because store does not return used or worn items or even without tags attached. They also do carry quality merchandise from time to time but this also has to do with what the store is supplied with, c'mon, how often is Juicy or Coach or Michael Kors going to supply with severe markdowns. PS go to South Florida and see wayyy worse conditions than this Ross' There are alot of rude inconsiderate customers that expect the world for nothing. Your right this is NOT Nordstrom and even they are cutting back on their customer service. read more

Some Ross stores are great, some are a Hot Mess. This Ross unfortunately falls in the second category. Always looks like a hurricane just went down, the selection is sketchy, and the employees (when you can find one) look miserable. And if you DO manage to find something, plan your day around standing in line -- I've NEVER been here when the line isn't at least 15 people deep, with 2 registers open....if I only find one thing to buy, I usually put it back rather waste half an hour to save a few bucks...... read more

This place frightens me. I sort of think they should just burn it to the ground. Every once in a while morbid curiosity gets the best of me and I go into this store. I am all for sales and bargains, but this is more like strolling through a post apocalyptic shanty town than bargain shopping. I'm really surprised at the reviews here. Maybe I'm a strange case. But, I love this place! This is by far my favorite place to shop in Novato. I have several times been able to go in there and find specific things that I needed. I accidentally left the heels for my wedding with my dance teacher and had to find new one in no time the day before. I went in 5 mins later I had shoes that were even better than the first pair (also purchased at this ross). I also have gotten great gifts for my mother in law, my bachlorette dress, and orgeous brunch dress, clothes for work, and swimsuit for my husband, etc etc...
