I bought a pair of water sandals to wear in Mexico, got to Mexico, first day of hiking the soles started to delaminate and one of the straps broke, rendering them unusable. Tried to return them, they said they don't accept defective merchandise back. Wow. The cashier (large middle aged black woman) also accused me of wearing them a lot because of the delamination. Won't be shopping m there again, they lost a regular customer over $18. read more

Ross @ 2300 16th st, the ONLY BIGGEST complaint I have is and I would not recommend this place because they do not have a restroom available for customers. It is a clothing store where people may spend a significant amount of time, yet there is no access to a bathroom. When asked, staff advised going to nearby food establishments, but those require a purchase in order to use their restrooms. This is not practical or customer-friendly. read more

Ross Stores is located at 799 Market Street, San Francisco, California. I needed to buy a new belt. First I tried Ross Stores and I discovered how bad a store can be, and then I tried Target and it was so very much better than Ross. Ross had few employees who were able to answer questions including: "Where are your belts located?" I was not sure about what sized belt I needed, so I took two belts over to the fitting room. Ross Stores stupidly would not allow any belts inside of their fitting room. The reason that Ross employees gave is that "A belt is not clothing" which is a dishonest reason because, of course a belt is clothing, but after dealing with their staff's idiocy I felt that I needed a belt of whiskey. To save time, I chose not to drink. Their policy made no sense to me, and I have plenty of experience in retail stores. Afterwards I wrote a complaint to Ross. Their reply included an insincere apology. It was insincere because they still insisted on this policy, for the dishonest reason that a belt, they claimed, is not clothing. I then went to Target and had a pleasant and successful shopping experience. They were happy to let me take two belts inside of their fitting room. I found the right sized belt for me, and I walked out of Target with my purchase, happy to have had such a pleasant shopping experience at Target. Given a choice between Target and Ross, I will always choose Target. I do not recommend Ross which is sometimes called Ross Shop For Less, but its full name should be Ross Shop For Less Satisfaction. In fairness to Ross Stores, it could have been the inspiration for a hit song by The Rolling Stones: "I Can't Get No Satisfaction." read more

This isn't the first time I've had an issue at this particular Ross location. I travel across the Bay Area visiting different Ross stores for content, and unfortunately, this store continues to stand out in the worst way. As someone with an African-American, mixed-race daughter, I've personally witnessed the disgusting and despicable treatment of Black customers here not just once, but repeatedly. During my recent visit, I saw every African-American person who walked in being immediately followed or watched, including my daughter who was with me as she walked her own way to look. This type of racial profiling is nasty, harmful, and flat-out wrong. What makes it even more upsetting is that this store is located in the Mission District, near low-income housing and communities made up largely of Black and Brown families. Yet instead of serving the community with respect and dignity, this store chooses to treat them with suspicion and disrespect. This behavior needs to be addressed and corrected immediately. Pros: -great discount prices on some designer fashion like Calvin Klein -cheap clothing, I like to come here for leggings and workout clothes -decent looking sweaters -nice dress selection but since I wasn't shopping for dresses I'm not sure about size selection -service is friendly and checkout was quick Cons: -unorganized at the end of the day -jeans are cheap material and is not worth buying -food section can be a bit suspicious of quality (some are food brands I've never heard of) but some are totally fine and are a great steal like the chocolate! Why I came here // I came here the Thursday before Halloween looking for a last minute costume. Sadly there weren't any Halloween costumes, as they are already preparing for Christmas. I ended up buying a men's xxL sweater to be Steve from Blues Clues. Turned out to be the most comfortable sweater ever! And it looks awesome! On November 14, 2023 I went into Ross with my children. The shopping went well and before you know it I had 2 carts full. I had a variety of items from different departments. As, I reached the register the cashier by the name of CONNIE never properly greeted me her only words were "do you want a bag?" but, it was rudely said so, I asked how much the bags were? and she snaps and says .25 cents all over California. (I suppose she was trying to be funny. I didn't ask her about California I asked her how much their bags were and the size of the bags to see if it made sense plus, I wasn't sure how many small items needed a bag) she asks again and I tell her to just start ringing and if I decided to get a bag I would let her know. She immediately got an attitude. I asked her "are you ok? because, I'm sensing an attitude" she responds and says "i'm waiting for you to put all your stuff up here?" I tell her she can start ringing (because I had my sons basketball game to attend) I say "you can start ringing" she responds "I'm waiting for you to put everything up here" again. Mind you I have 2 comforters one King size, and one Queen size baby clothes, a portrait, cookware, baby shoes, children's clothing, etc. there was not enough space on the counter to place everything up there at once. please explain to me how both of these comforters alone would fit on the register counter? I inform her that I do not want my comforters placed on the counter face down or on the floor since they were going on our beds. At this point she still hasn't began ringing up my items. I start to get {impatient} and ask for a supervisor.So, I went to the jewelry counter and asked for a manager. She then began to ring my items up my total comes tp to $365.00 I believe.... so I pay for my items. After paying for my items when she gets to the comforters to take the sensors off she slides the comforters across the counter. all through this process she has an attitude mind you both are a Tiffany & co. Serpa material) I ask her again " Can you please not slide the comforters across that counter like that because (the counter) is dirty and I need to place the comforters on my bed" she ignores my request and places it on the floor after ringing them up. They are now paid for so now, I'm annoyed. She does the same thing to the other comforter at that point I ask to be refunded because she clearly and purposely dismissed my request. The supervisor who comes over with no name badge so I can not identify her comes over to speak me. I inform her of the situation and she apologizes for CONNIE's rude customer service. I only do reviews for excellent service or terrible service. This was a very terrible experience. I was not rude, I was not loud, I am always a respectable paying customer and I have worked retail so I know what comes with the job somewhat. I really wanted to put everything back and take my business to Marshall's or Tj MAXX. I am very disappointed. the workers don't look any different than the customers, its hard to tell who actually works there and the staff do not wear their name tags prorperly, the store is overly congested not with customers but, stuff. Im sure this has to be a fire hazard because rarely is it that 2 people can go donna aisle at the same time. read more

Why is it that the employees seem so "lack luster" & "difficult"...for simple duties (like checking out the customer). i love shopping for deals. Ross is one of the places i love going to for deals. there are a lot of hidden jems in the store. But you just have to keep looking. There are numerous of Ross stores in the City of SF, but this particular one is a hit of miss for me. There's something in the air. I get essentially workers are overworked but I've been going to Ross since I was a child. Even during Covid I've return things because you can't try things on. I went in here just a minute ago and return a shirt. Shavonne was so confuse by me returning the shirt inside out , she asked my to turn the shirt so it would be the right way. This place has it's ups and downs. Sure there are some great deals, but sometimes the clothes don't have tags on them and hunting down an exact same match isn't worth the wait. Sometimes I find something that is meant to be a 2pc, yet missing it's match. It has great deals on housewares and linens, I've found name brand duvet covers, pillows and high quality sheets for cheap. Yet some of thier cookware isn't meant for cooking or the food items consuming. The biggest thing that keeps me from coming back is the monster line that wraps around the store. Here are my reasons below: 1) I said hello and she didn't smile or respond 2) At the end, I asked if she gave a receipt, with no smile she just pointed at my bags and looked towards the line of next paying customers. I had to look through 4 bags. 3) Since you cannot take carts out due to the long attached poles, I asked if I can do two trips. She said you can leave it with security and pull your car up. I then went to security and was told I have to ask the cashier. I then I was advised, you can leave it here but we can't guarantee nothing will happen to your items. It's at your own risk. I see the big blue sign all the time when I head to the 24 Hour Fitness downstairs, and since I'd been overwhelmed by the plethora of vomitous cuteness that is Babies 'R Us earlier that day, I decided to check out Ross for a possible baby shower gift for my soon-to-pop sister-in-law (Babies 'R Us isn't bad, mind you, but I want something a little bit baby-chic and hipper than what they have there). This Ross Dress for Less is a mess and the customers, on more than one occasion, talk to themselves. Clothing stores that allow shopping carts irritate me. How many aisles did I walk (nay, run) down trying to get the hell out of this place, only to be blocked by the behemoth shopping cart. Seriously. I was on an obstacle course just trying to get out. Heck Yeah I'm giving Ross 4 stars! This place is retail therapy at it's finest! Since my expectations of Ross are so low, they actually score rather high, if that makes any sense. I wonder in here to get away from my office at least once a week- I guess it's like a sick form of torture- walking thought the parking lot is like a death wish, but it always helps with getting some Spanish practice in for the day. As others have said, they go for cheap housewares and linens (if you want 400 count sheets on the cheap, they are here!) and their luggage/purse section isn't 1/2 bad either. Really, both of these sections abound with deals, though I find more excitement in buying sheets and small bath mats than I do purses from Ross. They sometimes even randomly have my size shoe in stock with some fairly quality brands, but clothing here....I don't bother. I look occasionally, but It's usually a waste of time. My other favorite rack at Ross is the lingerie rack...nothing like shopping for some cute, cheap, 2.99 panties to smooth out the rough edges on a hard day at the office and let a girl daydream. The weird thing about Ross is they have "events", like, the ugly dress event, or the ugly fleece sweater event; loads of one thing come in, priced to move, and boom, it's all over in a week. This feels more like outlet shopping than outlet shopping, did you see the wallet and soaps/body wash aisle here!? Are you kidding me!?!? On my most recent visit, I actually had a mission: Here's what I got: 3 Bras- 4.99 each 2 pairs coordinating underwear- 2.99 each 1 Brown Satin Queen Sized Sheet Set- 29.99 1 pair Red Leather Gloves with adorable decorative fringe- 11.99 So essentially, for for less then $60, I bought myself (and my momma, who will be getting the red leather gloves) a little happiness. I find that if you enter the store with the mindset that you're going to a church rummage sale staffed by elderly volunteers you will be better equipped mentally to deal with the kids running around unattended, surly employees and merchandise strewn all over the place. Take a deep breath. Aaaaaaah.........oh, look. A box of cool cards from the MOMA, original price $17, here at Ross $3.99. Ka-ching! Step over the hangers on the floor into the kitchenware section and start to browse the wares stacked three deep on the shelves. Check it out.......a magnetic spice rack with those cool little round containers on it that you were going to buy at The Container Store the other day for $15 but they were out of stock. Ross price: $3.49. Huzzah! Skip the clothes section.........the disorganization and manic intensity of the more hardcore shoppers will threaten the Zen-like state of calm you will need to maintain in order to continue your quest for screamin' bargains. If you're feeling particularly centered and relaxed and don't mind wailing babies and families arguing all around you, brave the shoe section. It's hit or miss, but I have found nice Born and Clarks sandals here for about $30 in the past. Can't find your size? Look down at the floor, since about half of this department's inventory seems to reside there. As for the lines, bring a book, a folding chair and a bag lunch and you'll do just fine. The checkout line here is not as legendary as the one at the downtown Ross, but it is formidable. However, were it not for the enormous line I would never have found myself looking at the Thanksgiving merchandise displayed at the end of an aisle as I waited patiently to check out. There amongst the ceramic cornucopias and tiny Pilgrim salt and pepper shakers I saw it.........the 14.5 oz. jar Yankee Candle in Witches Brew. SCOOOOOOOOOOOOOORE!!!!!!!! This is the second best smelling candle in the universe (the best being the Gap's Autumn, discontinued long ago). When I lived on the East coast where Yankee Candle stores are prevalent I hoarded a few of these babies when they discontinued it several years ago. Now they pop up at Ross......and at $7.99, no less! All is right in the world, and you can bet your ass I'm going to be scouting all the other Ross locations pronto squanto for these bad boys. At Ross, you never know what you're going to find. ( Except for the aforementioned angry staff, thrashed merchandise and general chaos).
