Went to Express a few months ago for some nice slacks and a button up shirt. The quality is always nice and the price reflects this. Thankfully they had some deals going on and it brought the price down a bit. I went to the cash register and was met by Nikki. Nikki was a breath of fresh air at a time where everyone wants to just run your items and get you out of there. Nikki greeted me and gave me a quality experience. She didn't rush me and actually took the time to find the best deals for me. What began as a $300 purchase ended up being a $125 deal thanks to her taking the time to ring up the purchases in a way that maximized my savings. Since then I've made sure to stop by Express every time I go to the mall simply because of the experience she gave me. read more

I don't think I have ever written a review for a retail clothing store, and this may be my one and only. I am doing so because the experience that I was provided was basically none at all. I understand that we all have to start somewhere no matter where we work, but why can't these Gen Z's care or give more of an effort in providing great customer service? I can tell that one things for certain; they won't last a day in a premium retail brand like Banana Republic or a luxury one such as Louis Vuitton. In context; these so called customer service people with no service skills at all will get booted out the door for not caring. This store in particular has always been some what messy and organized, but why did I attempt to shop here? Simply because of convenience and not having to visit the other two stores downtown. I found a pair of dress pants in the clearance rack, and not only was the label mis-sized, but that there was no price tag to be found. It looked bigger than what the size label indicated and surely enough It fit me perfectly and would have been a great pair of work pants to add to my wardrobe. What I mean by "would have been", is simply because the manager on duty (un-humble female African American), who refused to sell the garment to a ready to pay client. She simply said because the style is from 2019, and that the style number is no longer registered as active in the system that It could not be sold. I questioned and pressed for an answer as to why the garment was hung on a ready to sell rack? The manager, not only did she not address the matter, she also did not apologize for the inconvenience and asked that I purchase a full priced garment. She then said that she would prefer not to under charge for the garment. This is pretty lame and ridiculous; the store basically told me that they would rather keep the out dated garment and not sell to make some kind of return. This is the last time I will visit this store and I wouldn't be surprised if they end up closing in the near future. read more

The staff here are just as immature and rude as they want to be. That happens when management doesn't care about customer service enough to train them. Unfortunately, this is the only place around to buy dressy clothing for slim male teens, but their usual lack of stock and pathetic customer service is beyond frustrating and I won't be back. The last straw was when I tried to go today and the workers inside were milling about, ignoring the crowd of customers waited for them to open. 10 mins after they were supposed to open, one of them (who avoided looking at anyone outside) taped up a sign saying they "closed for inventory until further notice" and went to the back. Since we got zero explanation, and at least three of the people who had gathered came to the mall specifically to go to this shop, we called the store to see if we should wait a few minutes, or come back in an hour, or tomorrow, or ever..? The person who answered put me on hold and came back to simply repeat 3 times "we're closed until further notice ma'am". We could literally see them inside laughing. So childish. read more

I have recently been loving Express, and have been coming to this location every couple of weeks. The staff is always friendly and helpful, and I'm always happy with my purchases. Today we went in, and one of my little ones managed to rip open one of his snacks as we were paying. Jackie, who was already so sweet and personable from the beginning of our interaction, immediately offered up a little baggie so that he could have his treat without losing any to the ground. When my other little one started to fuss, she quickly pulled out another baggie so that they'd both have a baggie. Going shopping with young kids isn't the easiest, so her gesture was just so helpful and so so appreciated! If you're reading this, thanks again, Jackie!! read more

This Express is split down the middle between men's and women's clothing. We came here in the midst of a huge sale so almost everything was some % off. The back of the store also had a ton of clearance racks. I think it might have been because they were changing seasons so there was a lot of leftovers in odd sizing or that really weren't that great, hence the sales. Interestingly we did see that they had official Golden State Warriors branded items that were Express collaborations. read more

Just when I had thought I would give up on my search for that elusive sequin dress I decided to stop in here and check with the store associate at the register to see if they had it in the back or could order it for me. It was out of stock online but she was able to see it online on her handheld store device. When we went to order it there was an error and she was sympathetic and apologetic. Thinking quickly she got on her computer and saw that the store downtown had one available. She gave me the phone number and I was able to call and have them put it on hold for me. Thanks to the persistence of this one employee I was able to get my dress - kudos to her for representing Express well! Since the Express stores on the peninsula have all closed, this is the closest Express store for me now living in San Mateo. I like to purchase items from Express online and when I need to make an exchange or return, I go here. The store is not too big but the times I have been there has been no line or a very short line. I came in yesterday, the 10th of September. I had no clue and a very vague direction of where I was heading to. Amanda, had walked towards me, to come to help me and found me 7 beautiful dresses with the bits of information I gave her. To be honest, I didn't think telling a worker that I wanted "something flowy to hide my pudge but at the same time hugs some curves" and "I don't know what else I like other than something that can go with my leopard print heels" would get me. She was about to go on break, but she did send me into the fitting room and found a coworker to assist me. With that being said, Merida was such amazing help. She not only went back and forth a few times to get the correct size I needed, even when I kept going back between a few sizes. She went back and forth, quite a few times to find something that fit. I really appreciated the help they both offered me, along with the other ladies in the waiting room. Merida, especially, was going back and forth from fitting room to floor to fitting room to floor so often, I bet she could barely catch a breath. SHE DID IT ALL WITH A SMILE TOO. For the most part, I find the staff friendly and helpful. They tell you if something looks good or they'll recommend another piece. I picked up a suit a few weeks ago for my job hunting process. I have a handful of their dresses in my closet. I come back here because the suit pieces fit be perfectly without tailoring. The dresses (mostly night dresses) fit me well and I know I can use them again without it stretching out. At check-out for a summer dress I saw that Express honors student discounts, and as a student, I'm definitely going to take advantage of that. The SA-1 at check out says they don't honor it, and the other SA-2 walking by said yes. Sa-3 is at the next register over. SA-2 attempts to put in the code. SA-2 and SA-3 shoot looks and smirks at each other throughout my entire transaction. Blind or, not this is not tasteful and very unprofessional. read more

Store was closed at 5:30 pm even though store hours state that store closes at 8:00 pm. I tired to waive down employees in the store and finally got hold of Store manager on the phone. Store Manager and customer service ling was not able to assist with a return/ waiving shipment return fee. I was advised to come back another day to return item which is unacceptable as it is s hardship to frequent a store during a pandemic to make a return. read more

Today i found a XL jacket and saw a 25% discount on leather jackets and they would not honor it, when i walk back to show them they had removed the sign and try to play me saying it was not. I typically only come into this store if I have to return an online purchase - their selection is small and I have to really dig to find something cute in a size other than xs and s. My biggest annoyance is that they force you to check out at a tiny makeshift stand by the front of the store, instead of utilizing the larger check stand area at the back of the store - the only time they will use that check stand is if you are paying with cash. Because of the lack of space, and having to pile everything on this small surface, they always get confused when trying to differentiate between my returns and anything I might be exchanging those items for. There is also not sufficient space for items to be folded and bagged. It's stupid, to say the least. read more

I came in here to browse. I had a tough week and wanted to treat myself to some trendy clothes. I was about to walk out because nothing really caught my eye. But then I saw Carl - he was the only person working the women's section that day. He was helping all the other women with picking outfits. I then saw a gorgeous blue suit jacket with matching suit pants and decided I wanted to try them on. Carl was there to help me in a flash. Not only that but he picked out other suits for me based on my style. He was super helpful. He was there to check up on me in the dressing room and he was incredibly sweet. I really am glad I stopped in here that Saturday..I really love Express clothes and Carl was just the best stylist/person ever. Express has really upped their game in the past few years. Their website now features online shopping and features sexier fitting clothes for work and going out. I came in here looking for a pencil skirt to add to my wardrobe and I found one that I liked however they didn't carry my size. I told the salesgirl that I was wondering if she could check another location if they had the skirt in my size and she said that she can look for it AND have it shipped to my home for free within 5-7 days*. She got down my info and my cc# (it wouldn't be charged until they locate the item and ship it over) and a few days later it was Fed-Ex'd from a store in Florida. A store that can provide such a service gets 4 stars for me. I'm not giving it a 5th star just because I don't shop at Express that often as before. *The service isn't guaranteed to always locate your item of choice but the salesgirl told me that if I didn't receive my item in 5 days, I can call up their 800 number and let them know and they will continue to find it. read more

Love this place for sexy chic trendy clothing. Also tons of great work clothing too. Professional yet not old lady like. The staff is helpful sometimes overly helpful but I think that is how they are trained to be. Prices are good, a little less than Bebe. But they are always having tons of sales. Men's clothing here is very metrosexual. I love the suiting here, (not as overly sexy as Bebe yet also not as plain as J.Crew and Banana Republic) the going out tops (very age appropriate), the jeans (sleek) and the jewelry (all the trends are covered at reasonable prices). Ok...Let me break it down...I can get some really great shirts for work here and always find something I can use for work. Not a big fan of dressing up for work, but it's required so this is an easy one stop for blouse's, sweaters and cute tops. But here is my issue...they have so many coupons and discounts coming in the mail every week or every few days, which irks me after I've bought something. Can't we just do everyone a favor and mark the clothing down to begin with or pile the coupons on the counter!!!!! I end up returning everything just to purchase with my discounts. And I'm talking 30% off or BOGO 50% off. Really, save some trees, save me some gas, help the environment, stop sending me things in the mail every week, I get you're a business and need to make some $, but if you cut down on marketing materials, you'd make a whole lot more if you just offered the discounts via email, etc... read more

I'm always so happy when I come in and see my favorite sales associate who works at this store. I wish I knew what his name is but he's a young guy with glasses who looks Filipino. He's always smiley and cheerful and seems happy to help out. Super nice and has such a cute personality! I would give more stars but the female sales associates could step up their game. The guys seem to be friendlier and more willing to help out than the ladies who work in the store, some of whom look disinterested. I even got the death stare from one of the females while my favorite S.A. was helping me out :/ Also, their fitting rooms could use some serious cleaning, or at least some dusting, as there are some major dust bunnies in them. I don't tend to review chains in any category, but I was so pleasantly surprised about Express this weekend, that I felt like it needed to be shared! I needed an update on my pants wardrobe (read; I have reviewed too many restaurants and my pants are suffering the consequences). I had been looking for weeks everywhere getting pretty frustrated because nothing fits or looks good. After years of not going inside an Express, I decided to give it a try, since I was down on my luck, and wow! The service was great. The other reviews are right, they are helpful without being pushy or trying to sell you on their credit cards. The pants fit (yay!), look good and are reasonable priced. I will definitely been checking in here next time, but hopefully I won't need to "upgrade" again anytime soon! read more

Though their editor pants may look of high quality but i found forever 21 pants to be exactly. the same. yes, and nina's from serramonte (now in stonestown too) ; basic from tanforan has the same so-called "editorial" style. So ask yourself this: why in fuck-hot hell would you pay $80 for something you can get for $20?? minus 2 stars for my-social-life-is-more-important-than-my-job-performance customer service. you guessed it, the women "helping" us out on the counter was having a personal conversation with her co-worker. no "hello" or "how did you find everything?" or "does my lip-gloss look shiny, today?" I like this place. I'm usually a cheap ass and I shop at thrift stores, Goodwill, Crossroads, and Buffalo Exchange a lot. Express is where I like to go for the stuff I really can't find at those places. Like brand new fitted jeans - I'm picky, and not only that, I'm a 5'9" size 2 with a big butt. I NEED a good selection of jeans to choose from. Not even GAP matches Express in this area. I'm also pleased with the fact that the salespeople are helpful and friendly but don't HOUND YOU TO DEATH (*cough* Nordstrom's and the kiosks). Most things there are "buy one, get 50% off" and they're good about stocking basic wardrobe items in various colors. Basically, Express is win. read more

Mostly this is a review for this specific location and the people who work here. The only other Express store I've been to also had very nice employees, so I'm thinking maybe it's a companywide training thing? Anyway, the salespeople here were all SUPER nice and very helpful. How many stores can you go to where the people seem genuinely interested to know if something you tried on worked for you, and give advice on other stuff in the store if something you tried didn't quite fit you? Yes, duh, they're trying to make a sale, but still in other stores they don't even pretend to care. These guys made me feel like a valued customer, and it was my first time in the store. I love that! As for the clothes, sure, they're not cheap. But to me they occupy that space between super cheap crap (which is not always priced cheaply) and designer or quasi-designer stuff that I can't afford. Usually I can't afford to get a lot here, but unlike almost every store ever most of their clothes fit my body type perfectly, and that makes the price worth it. read more

This location isn't my favorite. There's just less men's stuff. A lot of the slacks and shirts I wear at work come from here. Simple, clean clothing that doesn't scream and doesn't put a dent in my wallet. They have all kinds of promotions all the time on the stuff I buy. I normally wear the 1MX shirts and the producer slacks when I need to make an impression at work. So you have a fancy get together this weekend and you're trying to get a decent looking dress shirt that says you're not a slob and that you weren't at Madrone all night. Express is where you wanna be. Seriously, the dress shirts are of great quality. Make sure you're on their email lists, and save $15 or so off a dress shirt or sweater. I got an awesome express sweater for $30 all thanks to that email coupon. The shirts hold their shape very well (especially in the collars), are comfortable and don't scratch or itch at weird places. I recommend, dry cleaning so your look will always be as crisp as the day you bought it. Ties are bit expensive though but they do have a nice selection of skinny to medium ties. Ways to save here: Sign up for the email lists, wait for those deals to come and pick up an awesome shirt that was normally 50, for $30 bucks. Not bad. read more
