I've found myself doing most of my grocery shopping here for many years. The quality of the produce is really good. The pharmacy is always helpful and getting a flu shot here is very convenient. I like this Costco location a lot in Soma. They have their own private parking garage, and the tire center is down there too detached from the main warehouse. Getting there by car can be hectic sometimes because of the people double parking near the entrance staircase. Inside has everything you expect from a Costco. The food court is standard and they carry a lot of Asian goods here which I like. My favorite section is the meat department because I can almost always find lamb loin chops for a great price and my 5 dollar rotisserie chicken always ready to go. Only downside is the crowds since it can get pretty crazy inside during the day and on the weekends. read more

The hot dogs used to have sauerkraut which is the best for $1.50 can never beat it. Then you have the wine if you are a shopper a real shopper you can get great deals here but you have to keep your eyes open. The berries is one of the reasons I come here now I can't live without berries fresh ones and they are here . I only do the blackberries and raspberries cause blueberries have to have a tang to them or I won't buy them. You can forget about the 90day return on electronics used to be 6 months until it was probably abused. I would have to say that this store has the best return policy in the world. That's how I shop I have to no the return policy before I even go to a store. I am the return queen. There is the chicken which is I guess their door opener. Everyone wants the chicken why not easy cheap and good. The appliances have longer warranties . They ship to your home usually without a fee if it's not groceries. They really cannot be beat. Hell you can even furnish your home here and be happy. Two days ago they had a blackout which was wild but everyone stayed cool and made it to the register and they closed the store . Service here can be slow just because there is a lot of people, but it's definitely worth it because everything is bulk and it is cheaper to buy in bulk. Yes, even in the heart of San Francisco, Costco has can be found sidewalk, don't count the gas station because that's just a hard no. Y'all know how much I love Costco, so of course I felt like it was my moral imperative to embark on what I expected to be a fun journey into one of my favorite places to shop. Everything about this location is a hot mess. Even the parking structure. Yes, they have one, because, SF! If you're looking to get run over by other customers, this is your place. If you're looking to be able to shop, forget about it. Things are poorly disorganized, and there's no flow to the layout like there is in all of the other warehouses. Watch out if they're offering samples, because I can promise you that everyone, and I mean, everyone will push you out of the way just for that free sample of whatever it is. It doesn't even seem to matter they just want it. I had wanted to grab a large bag of ice, which most of the warehouses usually carry in their freezer section, or they have a big huge ice freezer by the exit. Because I hadn't been here before, I luckily found an employee and asked him. I'm pretty sure that this is the first time that I've ever had an employee actually speak to me rudely. I literally only asked where I might find the ice, and his superlatives were unprofessional and unnecessary. I had already navigated my way through this warehouse several times trying to find things, filling my shopping basket, etc. so the thought of having to feel like a salmon to go all the way to the far corners of the warehouse once again to see if I could find ice just wasn't worth it. It was deeply disappointing to leave my items behind, but frankly, just the poor Customer Service on top of everything else. As frequently as I am in the Bay Area, I definitely won't be stopping here again. As a sidenote, this location is supposed to be highly ADA compliant. This has to do with their multilevel parking structure. The elevators don't work, and there is an extremely long ramp that is difficult for people to get to, so consequently, if you need assistance until they fix the elevator, this is not a warehouse to shop out. I helped an elderly woman who was struggling just to get up the flight of stairs because the elevator was broken. read more

First off - I love Costco, which normally would be a 5/5 for me but this Costco in particular, two things that bring it down to a 3/5. 1. Parking is insane here! I always feel so stressed with the amount of chaos going on in this parking lot. All the cars, the people, carts. I feel lucky I make it out unscathed. 2. The Costco chocolate chip cookie in the food court is literally my favorite cookie in the world, but for whatever reason, this location makes it absurdly large and chonky. It's like double the size it normally is. Normally I have no issue with more, because value but because of how thick it is - it actually takes away from the otherwise perfectly crunchy exterior and melty goofey soft interior. Flavor is there, but we gotta do something about the size of this thing. It's like 1 inch thick! This was my first time going to CostCo in San Francisco. My coworker and I were in need of a microwave for our work site. Parking was very easy, and I appreciated that. As we walked outside and up the stairs to the entrance, it was packed full of people and carts. People were waiting to enter, as it was roughly 9:30 a.m., and the store opened at 10. While waiting, I noticed shoppers coming out. I asked my coworker about that. He said, "Those people are executive members, they get in at 9." I said, "I'm executive," showing him my card. We walked in. I didn't know that, about being able to enter early. Once inside the store, we acquired what we were looking for. A microwave, that had a reasonable price. Check out was quick. We had hotdogs which comes with a cup to have water or a soft drink. Exiting was quick. I really appreciated how friendly the employees were. Everyone had a smile. Everyone greeted us. Welcomed us. That was very refreshing because not every store does the same. I'll definitely be visiting this branch again. read more

Extremely Disappointed After 14 Years as an Executive Member I've shopped at Costco locations all over the country, and unfortunately, this store ranks the lowest by far. For context, I've always had excellent experiences at other locations--San Diego, for example, has amazing employees and exceptional service. This location could learn a lot from them. I'll focus on the main issue, though there were several things that made this an overall bad experience. I'm new to the area, visiting family, and was hosting a big dinner that evening. I took an Uber to Costco, which ended up costing about $60 round trip. I spent two hours shopping and had roughly $400 worth of groceries in my cart. When I got to checkout, my membership card was scanned, and I learned it had just expired. I said I would renew it when I returned home. For reference, I use American Express and Apple Pay, so I had just transferred $400 for this trip. I didn't want to hold up the line behind me, but I explained that I've been an Executive Member for 14 years and obviously wasn't trying to shop for free. I asked to speak with someone, and when a manager came over, I politely asked, "May I renew my membership when I get home?" His response: "Oh NO, we CAN'T DO that!" I explained that this happened once before in my 14 years and I was allowed to check out and renew later. Still, I was flat-out refused. To make matters worse, I have a substantial reward balance that would pay for multiple years of membership. Yet I had to leave without groceries, call another Uber, and cancel my dinner plans because there was no time to shop elsewhere. When I got home, I called the manager, Gustavo, to explain what happened. Instead of helping, his condescending attitude made the situation worse. He said, "I will allow you to shop in the store if you come back." After I had already spent $60 on Uber, that wasn't exactly helpful. Offering delivery or some form of accommodation would have made sense. After almost 15 years of loyalty, I expected some consideration. Instead, I was treated poorly and left embarrassed. Sadly, I will not be renewing my Executive Membership and will be using Costco far less in the future. When employees across the board seem to have an attitude, that usually points to poor management--and this experience confirmed that. I travel and always use Costco even in Hawaii and Alaska! This experience made me see Costco no longer respects or values its members. That is one of the only reasons i shopped there. Note: Alaska is the smallest Costco in the world amd they were still light years ahead of San Francisco Costco when it comes membership service. I will pay for basic membership now ans if i have another negitive experience at all, will no longer shop with Costco. It used to be great. ONLINE there is an option to shop without being a member for 5 percent fee!!! Yet i am in store aa a long standing paying memeber and couldn't check out because mu membership just expired. If you come during traffic hours (it was 5 pm Friday), I recommend paying for street meter parking as the parking garage was a nightmare. It took 40 minutes to exit, and I had parked between the 10th and 11th street entrances on the first floor. Cars were honking nonstop impatiently and trying to find an alternative exit (I think you can leave by the loading dock area?). There was a security guard directing traffic but he seemed to just let all the incoming cars from the street in first, and then let out all the cars coming down the ramp from the second floor, so the straight line between 10th and 11th street entrances was very bottled up. There are a lot of other lanes cutting in as well. There was a lot of honking and backed up traffic as well on the street so the cars couldn't exit quickly either. I don't believe this was part of the security guard's job as he kind of wandered off and abandoned this task as I left, so I hope Costco can hire someone to help manage this insanity as it has really scared me off from shopping anytime near peak hours. read more

TLDR: I grew up going to the OG Costco (in S Seattle) with my dad; Costco trips will always and forever bring me warm & fuzzies, even when the crowds are unaware/rude af--it's not Costco's fault people act completely feral nowadays ;,,( so I can't knock the store for that. The best days to visit this location are midweek or ~30 min before close, as I find the lines are move faster, and there are way less blissfully unaware families blocking the aisles + I usually do self checkout and there's often no lines at that time. Longer: I'm giving 5 stars because it always has what I need (Grillo's pickle spears), I've found some stellar last-on-the-shelf deals (v pretty + functional 3 pan set for $40.97, 2-pack cabinet shelf organizers for $14.97, and a 12oz jar of Fly by Jing chili crunch for $14.97), and employees are helpful (when you can find one). Plus, to have a Costco within city limits AND a 15-20 min walk from my apt -- so lucky! This particular location is your run of the mill Costco with an ever so slightly different focus on city living ie I find some larger home/related items you'll find in South SF or Salt City location won't be here BUT you will also find single pumpkins, lovely Chinese new year gifts/accoutrement, and limited time seasonal items for single people OR large families. The lines and crowds at this location are super hit & miss. Sometimes I feel like I'm in & out, other times...gotta wear my patience pants xD; it's hard to know what day/hour to avoid the crowds, and even on "mellow" trips, it's never empty. I've come to learn that Monday and Friday afternoons are just as bad as the weekend, or maybe even worse than later on a Saturday. A benefit to being such a busy location = there are regularly new products and the selection is rather varied. With that in mind, if you see something you're interested in, jump! The hardest thing for me is having to make trade offs between cost/value and available space in my apt/fridge/freezer ie we just got the 6-qt pack of chicken broth and...it's literally sitting next to my kitchen island on the ground because #SFStorageProbs #SFLiving #NeedMoreCabinets I find myself taking pictures of products to compare with prices at Trader Joe's - do I ever NEED 4lbs of frozen cherries? Sucker for a good deal so maybe I'll find a way to make space... if there's value. The most crowded and disorganized Costco I've been to. It's just too many people and too few supporting staff to keep the store organized. I tried talking to the manager and he seemed to be lost and overwhelmed, granted it was on the busy Sunday afternoon, but still, you're a manager, you need to keep thinga under control. In San Francisco, however, where most people usually don't even bother to greet or talk to each other, there are fewer people to pick from when you're deciding who you're comfortable approaching about sharing. Dropped by this Costco because it was the only one in the area that had an electronic item I needed and I gotta say, this is probably my least favorite location to go to lol Being that it's in the city, they do cram a bunch of stuff in here but on a busy day, it's like playing Tetris going through the aisles. The checkout lines are not very efficient as they don't have anyone directing people which leads to bottlenecks as you look to checkout. On this past Saturday, the samples selection was lacking as compared to most weekdays. On the bright side, their underground parking is pretty big so finding parking isn't an issue, it's just a lot of traffic getting in and out which makes it tougher. Overall, not a bad Costco (bc I don't think there's such a thing) but just not my favorite. I'd avoid on weekends and go during the less busy times on the weekdays read more

When I'm in the mood for cooking and I crave a good steak I go to Costco. This is my main motivation to come shop here. This was the first time I went for the tomahawk because it was on sale. I also made my favorite side dishes - sauté mushrooms, mashed potatoes, roasted asparagus and onions, garlic confit to spread on bread. In addition to making a great steak dinner, I also bought a lot of other items which will last me for awhile. I like watching "Bobby Approved" videos on YouTube to learn about new products and how to make healthier choices when purchasing staple items. I don't know what everyone is complaining about on their reviews. When you think about it, where can you buy these highest quality items for the best prices other than Costco. I thought i would give this Costco location another chance. Coming from the Bay Bridge I did not have a hard time getting there. I was able to find parking closer to the entrance in the parking garage. What I was surprise was to discover the Tire Center in the parking garage. When I went to this location I was able to get great service. The person at the door greeted me with a smile when I flash my Costco card. I was greet hello when I enter and I was greeted have a nice day when I left. When I finish packing what I got from Costco I was able to return my cart back when I got it from, at the entrance of Costco. Too bad this location can not have a gas station. It would be crazy if the gas station was inside the parking garage. read more
