The Assistant Manager Kay is racist and needs to stop racially profiling paying customers. She was stated on the recording she has "regular customers who steal", which is a huge issue that she is allowing this. She was recorded during the conversation and accused us of threatening her, when she contradicted herself and implied we were stealing. I frequent Ross (not this location) quite often and I never have an issue with the staff. I'm able to comfortably enjoy my shopping and get great deals. I came in on 06/25/2025 to shop for my Daughters' birthday gifts. Which should be a fun and happy moment. From the second I walked in, Kay came and stood right next to me as I shopped for lipglosses my daughters might like. Sensing that she was assuming I was a shoplifter because I'm Black presenting (I'm a Mixed Black and Asian person), she stayed in close proximity while I was shopping. I didn't even get a hello, wasn't asked if I needed assistance or anything. I stayed close to her on purpose so she can see my face and know I wasn't attempting to steal. This is a fairly quiet area in San Jose and I used to live right around the corner, I've never been treated like this anywhere. No one here is stealing as most people in this area are retired, older, parents, or have money. I left the section because I was uncomfortable and I can tell when people are being discriminatory. From the second my Husband who is a tall, light skinned Black Man, entered after I did, their staff focused on him and one of the cashiers made a rude face toward him. Kay claimed her section is Makeup, but proceeded to follow my Husband and I to the toy section. As I was in line at the checkout, Kay once again comes to the front. There was already a line of people before us and we were the second to last in line, she appeared out of nowhere and opened a register (but didn't do it when there was a line before us). I spoke with the Security officer when I asked if he asks to check everyone's bags, he said yes, and we asked another family that was leaving if they did the same to them. They said yes, but they also expressed to my Husband they got the sense they were being followed around the store as well (a Latino family). I asked to speak with the Manager and they said she wasn't there and he identified Kay as the "assistant Manager". I RECORDED our entire interaction. She was extremely defensive when I confronted her about how uncomfortable she made me feel, then mentioned "there's been a lot of theft in that section" and accused me of being "suspicious" because I stood next to her as she was following me around. Then she threatened to ban me from the store (which I don't care as I don't live here anymore). She was also accusatory toward my Husband and myself of being "threatening" (gee I wonder why..) because her racial assumptions were being exposed. Kay also mentioned she has "regular customers who steal" which was RECORDED, and to me, should put her under review with her Upper Management as being not only a Manager with low EQ but allows regular customers to steal from this location. Please fix this. No one should have to experience this at all let alone during a joyous occasion. Thank you. read more

When you need a last minute gift and don't want to spend a lot of money, there is Ross. I have a friend that frequents all of the Ross stores for his eBay business. He insisted that I come here because this one is the least crowded, the most clean and also the most organized. I walked in here this morning and what greeted me was exactly how my friend had described. There were barely any people inside, the aisles were tidy and organized, and it was really clean. Almost too clean. The clothing racks had slim pickings and had lots of space in between hangers-- like most of it had been bought up. The furniture section had a few chairs and tables with lots of open space because it too looked like it needed to be stocked up. The biggest difference between this location and the Aborn location near my house is the space. This location is huge! While I didn't buy anything while I was in here, I will definitely come back after Christmas season should I need a gift. Definitely beats the Aborn Ross location for all the reasons listed above. read more

We've been shopping here for close to 15 years since this store is close to my house.... My wife just got accused in front of everyone in the store of stealing her coat that she walked into the store in(Zara brand which Ross does not carry).11/06/2023 8:30pm she bought a bunch of items and after everything was purchased they asked about her coat that she walked in the store with (the cashier Katrina asked "stating she was told to ask about the coat" ... I asked Christian (security) if that is appropriate and if he can check the cameras to which he responded that he does not know how and he does not have access to cameras and that he's new and had almost no training... Manager Alexandra was fairly reasonable at first and offered and apology, however Katrina came back very confrontational stating they say this to everyone and this is normal and there is nothing to apologize for(unfortunately this argument was going nowhere so we decided best to leave the store)... very unprofessional and accusatory behavior is unacceptable at a store that we've being going to for so long and much of my family has as well. Bought 5 items from this location on black Friday. Was at cash register : 01 , Tran : 5178 , Assoc : 851334. Was charged for 5 items. But she kept 1 items back. Since I was with 2 kids, i was paying more attentions to them. Didn't realized till I get home that I was only given 4 items. I called them back, was told to come with a receipt. Drove back to Ross. I told the cashier that she didn't gave me the item that I purchased. The Loss prevention guy and the cashier gave me the look like I was trying to pull a fast one on them. Bad cashier that blames customers! This is a new one. According to this employee (Associate: 611426), the customer is responsible for placing items on the counter in the order they want the items bagged. I bought a pair of shoes and clothes and upon paying, the cashier stuffs all the clothes in the bag first and was about to put my shoes directly on top of all the clothes. I stopped her just in time and said the shoes are dirty. She turns the shoes over on the bottom and says they don't look that dirty. Are you kidding?! How many people try on the shoes before they buy them? It's obviously dirty from being on the ground. Dude it's common sense! Then she turns it around on me and says if I wanted the shoes on the bottom I should have placed it on the counter first before the clothes. OMG! That's the dumbest thing I have ever heard. So it's my fault?! The person bagging the items should know how to do the job. It doesn't take a genius to know what should go first and that shoes are freaking dirty. If I went to a supermarket, am I supposed to put my groceries on the counter according to what should be at the bottom first? The person bagging the items should be smart enough to know not to place a heavy melon on top of a bunch of soft lettuce and crush them. Or how about placing Tilex in the same bag with my berries just cuz my berries were on the conveyor belt near the bottle of Tilex? Come on! This is such an unprofessional way to handle the situation. I could have stayed and argued but I told her I won't. Main reason is because I did Not want to hold up the line. It's just not worth it and inconsiderate. Just admit your mistake and quickly apologize. Don't put the blame on someone else. I have never had a problem at this location, but I am extremely disappointed that this employee (Associate: 611426) ruined it for everyone. Hope she reads this and learns from her mistake. This particular Ross location is solid. It's decently organized, the staff is nice, and the prices are great. But what motivates me to give them a 4th star is that they have actually have a really extensive male shoe collection. Granted, I do not want neon green Nikes, but the fact they have several rows of shoes for men just shows they are trying to cater to the less fashionable sex. In addition, this location has the best tie location. I love picking up Geoffrey Beene ties for $10 a piece. It really makes my day. Everytime I go in there is just 1 or 2 cashiers working. Long lines form and they continue using just 2 cashiers. Went in earlier today to find out the system was down so I couldn't buy a gift card (I get these things happen), but again there was only one cashier and it took me forever to find out I was wasting my time. Not to get burned again, I called ahead and asked if the system was still down. They informed me that everything was working fine. I got in there and stood in line for another 15 minutes while the 2 people ahead of me got service from, again 1 cashier. Finally my turn, I get to the cashier with gift card in hand only to find out that the systems were indeed still down. They had not yet been restored. That is 2 trips, 30 minutes in line and absolutely nothing to show for it. I will not visit this store again. read more

For Less - Yes For Dress - Not much to choose from Came in looking for some plus size clothing and didn't find anything for either business or casual wear. The store is super huge and the isles are really wide which is great for mobility challenged. You can get a work out walking the store too! Way better than the aborn location. Everything is usually kept clean, dressing rooms don't smell of urine like the ones at the aborn location. If any complaint it would be that they have less selection, but that makes it easier to look through the clothes. I like to come in here on my lunch break and browse around. I am from out of town, and we have Ross stores all over. However, this particular location was really cool. Usually, I'm in and out, never seeing any clothing hat catches my eye. But I found great deals on winter wear, infant clothing, housewares, and holiday items. In fact, there were so many housewares that I found unique and priced well, if I could have, I would have brought them back with me on the plane! Instead, I got myself an adult coloring book; the total cost included coloring pencils, a sharpener, and an eraser. Back home, for the same price, is only get the book by itself. I wish the Ross stores in the Midwest were this diverse in their selections. I'd definitely go back towards the change in season to see what else they brought in! read more

This is one of the few Ross' that is kept up and clean for the most part. I always come here not expecting to find anything...and then I do! I have been all over the place trying to find a bathing suit for my vacation coming up. No luck really anywhere...even the higher end stores. So I came here on a whim to see if I could find a bathing suit. Found one that was a possibility, tried it on and it looked great! I was surprised! And the best part...it was only $4.99!! I walked in, it's been less than 15 minutes and I've had securities stay near by area 4 times already. The first time was within 4 minutes of being in the shoe section. I am a young mother I don't even have a stroller with me and I have a small purse bearly even the size of my hand! This is ridiculous ! Never coming back here again. So I've been to a few Ross', they are slow, the staff is usually rude and not competent, its sometimes hard to find things, but then again you go in there knowing that. But I will say I have had actual good service from this store a few times, with friendly and good help. So for what it is, it was fine. I've found a few mugs and bowls I liked for work, cheap nice martini set for a party, purses, some decent cheap tops and other randomness. My prize finds, a pink Donald Trump Tie for about 6 bucks, awesome for a novelty made into a belt. And a pair of Steve Madden red platform heels for 20. They look at you up n down like you're trespassing through their hood. F'en idiots... some ppl need to learn to leave their shit at home or find a new job they like... Other than that, I love Ross... Anyway, unlike all the other Ross stores I've been to, this location is actually very clean and well organized. I was impressed coming in, expecting to see chaos, especially during holiday shopping season (I had to go there today to buy my Chris Cringle gift. HAHA). The clothing selection is quite limited, however, this is a great place to go Christmas shopping, as the prices are cut real low and you have some sense of quality in the clothing. They have great stocking stuffer type gifts as well. Anyway, my main point - this is the cleanest, most organized Ross I've ever been to. I never get a headache shopping here! read more

I was in Almaden Ross in San Jose. The cashier Roxanne, forgot to remove the tag after my purchase and when I was leaving the store, the unremoved tag started to beep. I returned to the store, the cashier saw that she forgot to remove the tag of the slipper. And they check the receipt. After that, they said the number of the slipper and the receipt number was not matching. She said I need to pay again. And I paid the slipper again. But in the meantime, I checked the total items that I bought and count all the items on the receipt and they were matching. So I paid everything. The cashier said that she needs to see and count all the items. While I was waiting, new customers arrived and cashier did their purchase. I said 'when do you count my items, because I am waiting with 3 kids' and one of them is baby. She scolded me and said that I can answer the phones and say that here is Almaden Ross. I was shocked! Because of her fault I was waiting with 3 kids and I am scolded by her. I said you can not speak me like that, it is not nice. This is not my fault, this is your fault. After that she checked the items in the receipt and count the items and they were matching. So I paid one more slipper. Even though I had my receipt with me, she said that she needs my ID to refund the money. I moved to the neighborhood a few months ago and have ignored this Ross store, assuming they're all the same - crappy. Today I had to kill time before meeting someone at the Starbucks in this plaza, so I decided to go on in. I was surprised to see that this location is a bit nicer than some of the others I've been to. I wasn't expecting to find anything, and walked out with a new pair of workout pants, workout top and some kitchen towels - all for less than $30 total. I like coming here because there is always something new to discover. I went yesterday (2-24-2016) to do some therapy shopping during my lunch hour to relieve stress from my job. (needless to say I dropped a bill in less than an hour) Lately there hasn't been a TON of stuff. Maybe since the seasons are changing they are making room for the summer stuff, but, I found some cool things to buy. I wish they had more lamps and kitchen items. I came here to find some black skinny jeans which are apparently a unicorn in 2017. So yeah I found one pair that I like. Lines are always a disaster but there was a mildly entertaining employee droning "welcome to ROSS" at every person who walked in. There usually isn't a giant line for the changing room, but they do limit how many items you can try on at once. So I'd save shopping here for those times when the big box department stores are failing you on affordability and you have nothing better to do on an afternoon. read more

i wish i could give this store zero stars. not that you can really expect that much from ross (i don't go there for their awesome clothing quality and great customer service ...), but i *did* expect a little common sense. i was in san jose visiting a friend when we decided to go swimming and i'd come unprepared so we went to ross to look for a cheap tacky suit (check and check, for both). of course they have the tops and bottoms all seperated (vs selling them as a set ... again i go back to, what can you expect ...) but i finally found a top that went with a bottom. the top, however, was still marked as a set. soooo after standing in line after this woman who literally had a *cart full* of things she was returning (sans price tags, natch) i switched lines, and explained the prediciment to the cashier. i just ask if she can sell it to me for like, half the price, since it's half the suit. here comes the ridiculous - she tells me, they have to take the un-matched top *out of circulation* for a week, while they look for the matching bottom!! (can't you see it, ross' diligent employees / investigators searching without ceasing for this missing bikini bottom. oh wait, i must have these employees confused with the pimple-faced, barely english speaking employees that actually work there.) i was already in a pretty foul mood after the heat, standing in line, dealing w/ross in general ... and i explained to her that there were like five suits back there, none of them a match for this one, couldn't she just sell it to me. she kept repeating, out of circulation, put it back there, look for part of suit. finally i asked for a manager. oh unknowable universe! she was the manager!! my friend pointed out, if she sold me this top at 1/2 price or whatever, she'd at least be making a sale. she wouldn't budge. kept referring to the dilligent search for the bottom that MUST TAKE PLACE! finally i just walked away. i went across the street and spent twice as much at khols -- also obviously not the top of the line. but at least i wasn't hassled. guess the common sense thing was too much to ask for ross. read more
