This store location is so convenient to my nearby condo. I enjoy walking in and browsing periodically during my commute. The selection isn't as expansive as other locations I've gone to, but it's helpful for random quick grab and go items like simple home cleaning items, everyday decor, food condiments, candles and haircare. This is actually the best Ross in the DC metro area (not including VA). The customer service at Ross can be non existent but the staff here are a little nicer than at other stores. I think people often get Ross mixed up with other department stores like Macy's or even TJ Maxx. Their stock can be hit or miss when it comes to women apparel but I'm noticing more hits than before. Shoes are the same. Right now they're getting things like Hokas, vans, doc martins, and Birkenstocks which I found interesting. Caveat: depending on the time of day you go the store will be a mess. They get inventory at least 4x/week so you might want to stop by in the late morning when things haven't been thrown/dropped all over the floor by customers bargain hunting. read more

The worst customer service experience. Dirty and disorganized place. People here are rude and don't care about the business, employees here don't care about picking up stuff on the floor so they just pass over the merchandise unless the manager tells them to do something. At the line to pay, it can be a big line and only one cashier open and the other two people don't even care to open another cashier and just keep talking. read more

I always manage to find an item or two but like all the other reviews stated this Ross is disappointing. The racks are always empty, and the dress section is almost non existent (like work apparel is not ordered because of the neighborhood it's in ), it's kind of insulting. So had to go in because I had a function to go to and my dress pants were super loose. So I was like Toss is around the corner let me run there and get them. The store is bleak looks rundown. I went to the section for pants and they had a total of three. So I was like let me get a tighter belt which they didnt have my size and had five total. The most ridiculous shopping experience ever. The store was supposed to open at 9:30. I arrived at that time only to have an associate open the door and tell the crowd that was gathered there that she couldn't open the store because she was short three associates. Really?!?! I've never experienced that at any real business. Totally in professional. Then the associates came up and banged on the door and were let in and we were let in. I knew this was going to be my one and only visit to this store so I waited. Why have business hours if you are just going to open when you feel like it. Go at your own peril. They may or may not be open. PS when they opened the staff was not friendly or helpful. It was like I was bothering her when I was checking out. Crazy! As long as you avoid contact with customer service, you might have a decent experience here. They are usually extremely short staffed or the employees all just happen to be off on their shift and do not want to help you. Don't even bother looking at the jewelry department because they don't have anyone manning the area nor can they find the key after 15 minutes of waiting. I've never been to a Ross Dress for Less that is rarely stocked. EVERY time I walk into this Ross the shelves are half empty. I walk in thinking "this is the nearest store ever" and that is exactly why. Asking questions with store associates are just confusing as if they don't know much about the store themselves. I have a tenuous relationship with this Ross. On one hand, I love a good deal. And they have a lot of the brands I normally buy anyway (Bed Head, Betsey Johnson, etc.). But this store can be super hit-or-miss. AND their hiring practices are suspect. I've certainly seen worse retail establishments. I'd guess that out of every time I've been in this store, it's been clean maybe 40% of the time. Not terrible. BUT. The staff is awful. They make literally no effort to smile or be polite, and they consistently make me feel like I'm wasting their time when I check out. They NEVER have enough registers open, and I've stood in line for 20+ minutes with only a few people ahead of me. The clothing selection can also be hit-or-miss. Sometimes they have great staples (black leggings, sun dresses, etc.) and sometimes the clothes are either REALLY small or REALLY large, and covered in strange substances. (Like, dust, pain, goo, etc. I've seen everything at this store). They do randomly have soccer stuff in the men's athletic section. You have to dig, but the beau found USMNT official socks and a couple t-shirts, and there are always several random jerseys, which is cool if you're looking for cheap soccer merchandise. Their housewares section is sparse, but not a bad deal for basic stuff. And the food... well, I'm torn on that. They carry my favorite kind of popcorn (Popcorn, Indiana), but I've also had some really awful experiences with other food purchased there. Granted, maybe it's my fault for buying coffee at Ross, but I still don't think there should have been mold in it. Anyway, it's Ross. My fiancé and I frequent Ross to check out their furniture and decor selections. Sometimes you can find some great pieces for great prices. We sometimes look for different items like clothing or fun/weird snacks they may have. The new management isn't the best and he doesn't offer much help on the register when there are long lines. UPDATE: 11/23/11: This Ross really still is knocking my socks off with it's neatly organized fixtures and merchandise. The staff is never too busy to interrupt their idle chat about last night's exploits to help me out in finding things. Get this, if you busy a brittle glass or ceramic tchotchke, you know, something that needs to be wrapped up in paper, this Ross will actually use (no, NOT a thick stack of 20 sheets of paper loosely folded over your item once) the single a single sheets ply of paper to cushion your item, diaper wrapping it several times in alternating direction. Please call ahead and check store hours before your visit as I believe the ones on the Ross website are incorrect. read more

Went here on a Monday afternoon to kill time. Tried to find a dress. The store is hot, and the dressing rooms smell like a cross between who did it and why and a wharf. I could not try on a dress because of the rank odor emanating from the dressing room. To make matters worse, the merchandise was haphazardly thrown on the racks, and the store as just plain raggedy. Worst customer service ever. I will never visit this store again. I went there to return a pair of pants my daughter had purchased two weeks ago. She didn't realize that the lining in the pants was tore. I had my receipt. First the clerk looked at the pants she couldn't find anything wrong. She said they looked worn. First of all the pants only cost $13. I was only returning them because they were defective. I had to threaten to contact the cooperate office just to get a refund when i had a receipt. I just moved to this location and was excited about Ross' being within walking distance. I decided to go on the MLK holiday since I was off work. As I entered, I was greeted by a very professional and warm security team. I browsed items quickly for things were quite organized. I proceed to the checkout counter where there was only one person ahead of me. As I waited in line, I looked at some of the items that they have for browsing while you wait. I picked up a cordie for my phone and checked to see if it would fit my phone, for it was already opened. I neatly put the cordie back into the box as my turn was next. Before I could put it back into it's rightful place, a voiced yelled at me loudly for me to bring it to her since I'd already opened it. I looked up at Rochelle to see which one of her kids she was talking to because she couldn't be using such a ghetto tone with me. I explained to her professionally, the way I'd like to be spoken to, that I did not open the box however I did take it to her. She then snatched the box from me and proceed to talk to me in a very unprofessional manner. As I waited for her to finish ringing my items, she continued to slam my items on the counter as if she had a problem with me. I understand that we all go through something; however, this,was not the case. I demand the same treatment and respect that she gave the White lady before me. This place is def a hit or a miss sometimes with the customer service. The hit is always: organization, no crazies running around, ample parking, small clothing sizes, and cleanliness. Biggest miss: service, I've spent legit 30 minutes on line with 3 people in front of me before, as a customer thought she should pick everything she might like and put it in her cart.. then wait to get to the register to decide what she wants. I've always been a great fan of Marshall's and Tj and Ross, and its great to have this in my neighborhood. I hate overpriced marked up name brand - - you can find the exact same stuff here at reasonable prices if you pay attention, and its good stuff if you know what you're looking for. Plus do you really have any friends who are totally in the know of what precisely is in vogue that month - - for god's sake, find something here that's cool and nobody will ever know, its not like we live in the fashion world of New York, this is friggin DC. Plus i think its rather fun because the store supplies change every couple of weeks, so you can search around and discover. I know this sounds TOTALLY like a commercial but I am a big fan of avoiding more famous "supposedly discount" chains which aren't so discounted if you pay closer attention. I make decent money, but Im not going to blow it on overpriced scheisse. My mom grew up on welfare and lectured the hell out of me when I was a child on the importance of not spending money (I never got more than a HALF a stick of Juicyfruit, for example, which always hacked me off as a kid) so obviously I am traumatized to this day.
