I made sure to visit every corner of the store to make sure I did not miss a thing. It's a wonderful spot to browse while you're in the neighborhood and to take a workshop. Virginia led a group of us through a plant and pot decorating class right in the store. For my first Steadfast event, this was well organized and we were well cared for by our host! It was a rare moment of art therapy for me. There were no rules except to paint. At the end, we got holy basil seeds and soil to complete the project. I can't wait to see it grow along with my other plants.

The longtime proprietor, Mehmet Yalcin, widely known for his expertise, sadly died last year, however, his daughter, Rabia Yalcin, is now running the store. She's been at her father's side from the beginning, and so the torch has been passed. I met with Rabia recently and she's hit the ground running. She's knowledgeable, trustworthy, and easy to do business with. I can recommend this treasure trove of carpets and village arts that originate from countries found on the famous Silk Road. I went in looking for a few low maintenance plants and Cole walked me through several options with real care and attention. I picked up a Hoya Compacta Hindu Rope, a ZZ plant, a Philodendron Lemon Neon, a Bromeliad, a Crassula Jade, an annual, and a six inch Euphorbia Firestick cactus. Every plant looked healthy and well cared for. Since it was a quiet Wednesday morning, I got very personalized attention, but honestly the service here is always excellent even when the store is busy. The staff makes every customer feel valued, no matter how many people are in the shop. The prices are higher than big box stores, but the quality and care of the plants make it worth it. Also affordable! 3. Fish tacos from the famous seafood spot. These were sadly my least favorite item on our little food tour, the slaw was overpowering but if removed the pan seared fish was flavorless. 4. Wrapped up with some matcha and iced coffee - can't go wrong with those. Enjoyed browsing the little artisan stalls as well. An amazing stop on my trip to DC!
