Absolutely not the place for toddlers -- zero patience, zero compassion. I want to share my experience so other parents can be aware. I took both of my kids (ages 6 and 2) to this dentist, and it was one of the most upsetting visits I've ever had. First, the dentist took my 6-year-old son back to start his cleaning but told me I had to wait outside. I didn't feel comfortable with that, but I stayed in the lobby with my daughter for a couple of minutes. Eventually, I walked in because I wanted my 2-year-old to see her brother getting his cleaning and start feeling more at ease. When it was my daughter's turn for her checkup, things escalated quickly. She was in distress, which is completely normal for her age. I told the dentist we could reschedule so she wouldn't feel forced, but instead of showing patience or understanding, the dentist got upset and started arguing with me. She even told me my daughter was "dictating my life." The only suggestion she offered was to make my daughter lie back with her head in my lap, which only made her more uncomfortable. While I was trying to ask for answers and solutions, the dentist went to the lobby and grabbed my 6-year-old son by the arm to escort him out -- without my permission. As a parent, this was completely unacceptable, and I immediately stepped in to get him away from her. Instead of offering compassion, alternatives, or even basic respect, she chose to argue with me, blame me, and then escort all of us out of the office. What makes this even more disappointing is that my daughter has had a tough dental visit before at Super Dentist, but in that case, the dentist was kind, understanding, and tried to talk to her. That showed me the issue is not my daughter -- it's how this dentist handles children. My daughter is well cared for, potty trained since 5 months old, and speaks and understands three languages. She is bright and capable, but this dentist never even tried to talk to her, connect with her, or make the experience better. Instead, she tried to make me feel like a bad mother for protecting my child -- but I refuse to feel horrible for doing what's best for her. Both of my kids left the office with discomfort and fear. I left feeling disrespected and shocked at how unprofessional the entire situation was handled. Dr. Sosa and her receptionist Sofia are rude and unprofessional. My 2 daughters had seen Dr. Sosa on March 14th 2022. She found 1 cavity on my 7 yr old. I stated that my daughter had previous x rays 2 weeks prior and that I wanted her to take a look at them cuz my family dentist found 5 cavities. I called the office to forward x rays and Sofia was very short and rude. She stated that it wasn't necessary to see x rays since they already took their own and made a treatment plan for my daughter. I just wanted her opinion on previous x rays to make sure my daughter was getting the right treatment. While I was speaking, I was cut off by loud noise as if I was put on speaker. The other end of the phone became loud and Sofia didn't even ask to put me on hold while she spoke with Dr. Sosa. I could hear them talking about my request. She got back on the phone and stated I can send them if I wanted, provided me with the email and hung up. I was upset about the phone call so I decided to cancel my daughter's next apt. Called back 30 min later to cancel apt. Sofia answered again. Didn't ask who I was or who I was canceling apt for. Just said it's cancelled and hung up! I went to the office 10 min later and told Sofia to her face how rude she was and that I wanted to talk to someone above her. She stated that Dr. Sosa had already heard our previous conversation on the phone cuz she had me on speaker! Which is a HIPPA violation! Dr. Sosa demeanor was just as rude. I complain about her receptionist rude behavior and Dr.Sosa's response as; "You already cancelled your apt, so what else do you want me to do?" Obviously nothing. I do not recommended Dr. Sosa pediatric dentistry. Look up all the yelp reviews. Same pattern of bad behavior. There are too many patients with horrible experiences from Dr. Sosa and her staff. There has to be consequences for their behavior. Zero star for this facility. Both front receptionist and Dentist Sosa were very rude and cold. Any questions I or my husband would ask Dentist Sosa would respond sarcastically. Too bad I had her fix my daughters cavity. When my daughter came out the procedure she was all stressed out and had made her cry. And on our first visit I told the Dentist Sosa my daughter suffers from anxiety and stresses very easily. Dr. Rossanne Sosa, DDS has been my daughter's dentist for over 4 years and I couldn't be happier. She is great at explaining every procedure; she makes us feel better when we are stressed for any treatment our daughters has needed. Is not easy to trust your toddler with any doctor, but now my daughter is 8 years old and she is always looking forward to her 6 month/12 month check ups. I never wait any longer then 10 minutes to see her so I can trust her on getting her appointments in time. I have had dental emergencies with my daughter ( she is pretty active) and she personally deals with her little patients emergency calls. That is priceless for any parent. My 3year old had to go under for some dental work. My husband stepped for a work meeting , and I stayed behind with my 1 year old. The dentist came out tell me that everything came out fine , and that anesthesiologist would come out and give me some home instructions. When the anesthesiologist went to go grab my son , and the receptionist asked me about payment. I told her that my husband had to stepped away but he would be back soon and I will pay. I then was given my son who was still under and non responsive , and I was trying to wake him up as I was being instructed to do. Keep in mind that I was in shock to see my 3 year this way. I knew it would take a few minutes to get my little one to respond , BUT what made me so angry was what happened right after. The Receptionist kept pushing me and harassing me about the payment. I WAS FOCUSING ON MY SON BREATHING AND MAKING SURE HE WOKE UP! I had to repeatedly tell her that I was waiting on my husband, and he would be here soon. I had to tell her " I'm not going any where I'm going to pay you ". The densit stated that they wanted my son to go home and not stay at the clinic the whole time. I told her I didn't plan on staying at the clinic. While trying to keep my one year old near, waking up my non responsive 3year while trying to heavily text my husband to come back , and them harassing me to pay. I'm so very discuted by the receptionist, and I had a couple friends that I was referring not anymore! Do better! My husband finally gets there as I'm having anxiety about my son and payment. I normally don't write yelp review unless the place is horrible. My experience with this office is very similar to many other reviews for this office. I will not go into too much details but the bottom line is you should avoid coming here to save yourself the frustration and possibly your money/time too. This office is very nice to you at the beginning but once you figured out there is a problem concerning payments and the works that they provided they will snap at you. The front staff had to put you on hold for every single question you asked to go ask the doctor. Why not just open the record? Everything should be written in the record. Then when the doctor finally came to answer the phone. Apparently, she is not happy so she would talk to you very disrespectfully. Definitely the Dr lacks tact with both parents and patient and seems to have a very short temper specially for someone dealing with kids on the regular. Parents are not allowed back with the kids either regardless of age or procedure. Doctor definitely does not like you asking why that is. She made it very clear to me when I did. Took my kid here (he just turned 6 yo) and that was my experience. Walked away immediately. Not saying she did anything wrong in the medical sense, but definitely not worth the risk. Dr Sosa was really good with my 5yo. She made him feel comfortable, let him choose which gloves she would wear (he chose the blue ones = bubble gum flavored?), explained to him everything she was going to do before she did it. Explained the process to me, as well, being a specialty pediatric clinic, ie approval process with HMO insurance, time line, the procedures he needed, & more importantly what he didn't need , how many appointments it would take to space out & complete the necessary procedures, etc. I was very much so pleased with the experience! read more

I was referred to Rossanne Sosa from Western Dental, to treat my 5 year old daughter. Within the first few minutes of meeting her, she was abrasive and judgemental. It makes sense to me why she doesn't allow parents in the room during treatment. She was very rude and yelled at my child, who is afraid of dental work, and became resistent mid treatment. Sosa knew my daughter had this fear ahead of time. The "pediatric dentist" could not handle my daughter's fear and her own stress, so she called my wife into the room, berated and blamed her for my child being resistant. She insisted that my wife give my daughter a consequence for not allowing her to finish the procedure. Since this incident, my daughter has been re-enacting her dentist appointment with her dolls, yelling at them "Be quiet! Open your mouth! Stop moving!" We will definitely not be returning. She should not be treating children. Her only explaination for my daughter's resistance is "she decided that she wanted it to end"...as if she has never experienced a child who is afraid of dental work. Rossanne Sosa is ignorant and disrespectful. I can't believe she is a dentist. No wonder she has so many negative reviews to respond to. Do not bring your child here! read more

Prior to today's visit, we have seen Dr. Sosa in Tierrasanta and also at her new location before. I received messages to call to make sure the insurance information was cleared before coming in. Today I Had a very bad experience here. Wasted my time, was there for about an hour before they told me I need to call my insurance for my children. They assumed I was a new patient without even asking if we have been there before. I thought everything was good to go from my previous phone conversation with Sophia. But I show up and now I have to do their work for them. Not sure why they ask for insurance information before hand and I still have to call my insurance to get their claims address for them. I just think there could of been better communication, if they weren't ready to see me because of insurance issues reschedule for another date when things are all squared away. read more

After a horrific time waiting at the Super Dentist only to be told our son had to have treatment done in a hospital and there was an 8 month Wait list we asked family and friends to recommend a pediatric dentist. My sister brought her daughter to Dr.Sosa and loved her. One of our sons has extreme ADHD and anxiety and never let a dentist come close to his mouth. Dr. Sosa let him talk her ear off and she explained everything that was going to happen. Needless to say he only had 1 filling and some sealants. Without a fuss we were in and out in 15 minutes. My other son has a pacemaker and required clearance from his cardiologists. No need for treatment to be done in a hospital. He needed 2 extractions and 4 fillings. 2 extractions were done in minutes and he was very calm and at ease during procedure. Would definitely recommend dentist to everyone with kids. read more

In my experience, Dentist Sosa's dental work is just as horrible as her manner. My kid had one filling done by Dentist Sosa about a year ago. We recently relocated and was able to go see a different dentist. Apparently, the filling placed by Dentist Sosa was not properly light-cured so the material was harden on the outer layer but still soft (uncured resin) inside. Our new dentist allowed us to come back and see everything during the procedure. He even showed us the soft material that didn't get light cured. I do not recommend this office and I would highly discourage everyone from going here! read more

Miserable experience. Take your referrals elsewhere. It's not worth the hassle. New crowns, which were done over 3 separate appointments in January for our 5 year old, came out within around 30 days. Wanted 100$ to replace while pushing blame onto insurance company for only covering one per year and and us as parents for not watching to make sure he didn't eat anything sticky. Specifically advised my wife to come see her if anything happens with the crowns and when we do we're advised it's an added fee and not her shoddy dental work. You won't be allowed to be with your child while any procedures are done. It's very uncomfortable but for us it was the only option. Filing complaint with insurance provider and taking business elsewhere. Don't risk the bad experience. Go elsewhere. read more

NEVER AGAIN. We've brought our 4 yr old to her twice. On these occasions, our daughter was calm & placid......which appears to be the only type of child Dr Sosa is able to tolerate. My husband walked back to the procedure room while our daughter was in there alone w/ Dr Sosa. He stopped in his tracks for a few seconds - because he was stunned at what he heard. Dr Sosa was talking to our daughter in a way that: 1) scared her; 2) isn't how any doctor should talk to any patient (she said something to the EFFECT of "I have another kid waiting out in waiting room, so you have to cooperate" ....REALLY? You think GUILTING a child about your next patient in waiting room is going to motivate the child???) ; 3) ultimately wasn't going to help Dr Sosa meet her goal of completing the procedure. I am in the health care field, and, YES, I agree: it's much EASIER to work with patients who are NOT "resistant" - as she called our child. However, I firmly believe - especially when working with children - that ANY health care provider should possess the ability to re-direct a patient in a kind, non-threatening way. Especially when the patient is 4- YRS OLD. ! AND, if "reinforcements" are needed (in our case, she elicited our assistance to soothe our child) - a provider should try to ALIGN with the parents. NOT direct us in a very subtle, critical, demeaning, hostile and abrasive manner. I understand that children can be afraid of dentists. I know that doctors/dentists do not have the luxury of time. BUT. Figure out a more effective way of dealing with kids who are upset. Figure out a way to approach parents - that doesn't make even US adults also think: "Wow. You really ARE scary..." In the end, we feel good about removing our daughter from that situation and about our decision to never bring her back there. More importantly, we feel justified in cautioning other parents. There are plenty of other pediatric dentists out there. Find them. read more

Her staff were very knowledgeable and helped explain to our referring dentist the accurate referral process which saved us considerable time. At the time of our visit, Dr. Sosa and her staff helped us navigate our insurance provider's ridiculous authorization process effectively by communicating with them and explaining next steps to us clearly. Dr. Sosa was very professional and warm with our 5 year old who felt totally comfortable doing x-rays without parental involvement, and she gave excellent advice regarding options for treatment and coverage. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CHILD HERE. It is my opinion that this dentist should not be working with pediatrics. She has zero patience with children and uses threats to get them to cooperate with her. I have an almost 7 year old son. During his procedure (which was a big procedure) he had told her numerous times that she was hurting him and she did not believe him and seemed to become irate with him. She turned the upper TV off that was above him and told him she wouldn't turn it back on because he was crying. He is almost 7, not 2. He wasn't throwing a tantrum! He was in pain and scared. So sickening that she had no compassion and was using threats on him instead of helping him. I know when I get dental work done, I usually require a lot of shots to numb the pain. I don't understand why she would get so angry. The receptionist was not kind either. I called to reschedule my appointment because I run a home daycare and my back up had cancelled on me, therefore I could not get out of work. When I called to reschedule, the receptionist threatened to report me to my insurance for cancelling an appointment. I can understand being reported if you cancel numerous times and you become a problem for the office, but I had never cancelled an appointment on them and they didn't even know me yet. I am now finding out from other patients that they had the same bad experience with this office as well. No one should leave their children's dentist office with a knot in their stomach for the rest of the day about the way they treated your child. Such an awful experience. Dr Sosa has been my daughters dentist since she first started going to the dentist and wouldn't change it for anything. From the front staff to the dr, they are wonderful. Our family has been going to Dr. Sosa for the past eight years. All three of our kids LOVE going to the dentist. There is always plenty of parking and I don't think we have ever waited more than about 3 minutes to be seen! It's AMAZING. Her office waiting room is like a comfortable living room. Dr. Sosa is friendly, honest, and punctual. She doesn't double book so she takes care of your child at their appointment time! We have even had her do our kids' first phases of braces. My daughter is 4 years old and has been going to Dr. Sosa since she was 1. She has never had any problems and always sat in the chair and let Dr. Sosa clean her teeth. She had one cavity due to bad enamel and she did great. I took her to her cleaning she was due for last week. This was the very first time that my daughter was afraid and didn't want her teeth cleaned. She cried and became very upset. She didn't kick or do anything that showed "bad" behavior, but Dr. Sosa couldn't handle it. She kept saying to my daughter that she needed to cooperate and listen to adults. She asked me to be quiet when I tried to console her, and she wouldn't even let me stand near her to make her feel comfortable. I got upset so she made me leave the room. I then had to listen to her tell my child to stop it and this was something she had to do. She then told me we needed to try again in a week. The thing that really tipped me off was when Dr. Sosa told me I need to take something away from my daughter and tell her she doesn't get it back until she gets her teeth cleaned. That is NOT ok. She should not be punished for her fears. Clearly Dr. Sosa is NOT a parent, because that is not how you treat a child. It seems as though the second a child isn't perfect in the chair, she becomes an evil dentist. She even told me in front of my child that she was being defiant. All she did was cry and turn her head because she didn't want her teeth cleaned. I am taking her to a different dentist and will not be recommending her to anyone. The good reviews on here seem to be from people who have children that sit still in the chair at all times. I would have written a good review 6 months ago. I am so glad I have finally seen Dr. Sosa's true colors. If your child doesn't like the dentist, don't take him/her there, because this Dentist only likes perfect children who sit still, no matter how old they are. read more

Dr. Sosa has been my children's dentist for 15 years since my oldest daughter was a little one. She is wonderful! She is kind and caring. She has done everything from cleanings, fillings, extractions, and root canals for my daughters. We wouldn't take our children anywhere else! read more
