Let the buyer beware!! From my experience, the reason Roto Rooter of Scranton has a high rating because when the bill is presented for payment, not only does the technician rave about the Thursday motivational meetings that teach how to get the most from each customer, his skills at distraction are far better than that of plumbing or septic repair. What seems like a canned infomercial goes on about how every customer who leaves a review is entered into a drawing to win $500. Since I am finally submitting a review, please consider this my entry. At least if I should win the drawing if in fact there is one, it will bring my loss to $3600 instead of $4100! After this gleaming review of Roto Rooter, the technician went on to say that their charges are high because technicians work ON CALL and ON COMMISSION so they never know how much income to expect. The technician in question had a gofundme page for a few hundred dollar fix for his pick up truck, yet thinks it fine to steal from unsuspecting customers. A technician, who the Scranton office said was their most honest and capable employee disconnected the septic, illegally dumped over 1000 gallons of raw sewage on an adjacent property with a sump pump caused $4100 damage to date. By the time the repair is complete it will cost over $20,000. Worse yet, it took some time to research a highly competent septic professional, who then proceeded to "put a bandaid on system", but not before filing for a permit which roto rooter did not do, even though I asked if it were necessary. The Roto Rooter technician said it was not necessary for repairs and then proceeded to disconnect the drain field and redirect the entire septic system into ONE (1) 20 ft pipe. The following day, raw sewage came up through the drain into the house, something I had never experienced prior to the handy work of Roto Rooter of Scranton's prized technician. I called to ask why this was happening and was informed that perhaps he had run over the pipe and pushed it back into the MUD! I've since learned 125 ft is required for a house of this size. For goodness sake, I even applied for a permit for a fence! All the while we were living without water, my dog developed a bacterial infection that has led her into her last days. The hundreds of dollars I've spent on her care were well worth the few weeks she was able to enjoy her last days, however I will never forget Roto Rooter's jingle. "away your troubles down the drain", which in this case is "away your beloved dog and financial stability down the drain. Roto Rooter!" The Department of Environmental Protection has opened an investigation, while Mr. Roeder, the manager and owner of the Scranton office informed Amy Whitmore from the office that oversees Roto Rooter's contractor division that he does not have any intention of questioning his employee or looking into this matter until such time the DEP presses charges! Further, if you contact the office, the representative will insist Roto Rooter of Scranton is part of the corporate structure, however Roto Rooter's corporate office insists Roto Rooter of Scranton is a contractor using the Roto Rooter name. There isn't any way to enforce policy, if such such a policy even exists. This post will be updated as new information becomes available. read more

NOT JUST FOR DRAIN CLEANING! Call Roto Rooter for your plumbing problems. I always thought of them as a drain/clog business (which I have used twice in the past with great results). I had no idea that they do everything plumbing! I was looking online for 2 days for a plumber who was "available", which is hard enough; or one that was a reasonable cost, which is harder to find. In fact, I almost called this one guy; he had an ad on facebook and looked pretty good, had pictures of his work, etc. But get this!...as I watched the news today, I heard this guys name and saw him walking with police...seems he was arrested for taking peoples' money and not doing the work. NO LIE!!! Now what are the chances of that happening? As for today's service call, all I did was make an appointment online last night and pick a time for TODAY. They sent me a confirmation email early this morning. That's it. Later on, they called and told me when the guy was on his way! Big plus in my book!! None of this "he'll be there between 8 am and 6 pm" business. (I don't think I need to mention the name of that company to you). When Dave came today, not only was he a very knowledgeable man, he was very pleasant to talk to, which means a lot to me. He knew exactly what the problem was right away and explained everything to me in plain (yes plain) language. I asked him for a written estimate for a much bigger job that I am considering having done in the future, which he provided. (A very reasonable estimate and believe me, I've gotten a lot of plumbing estimates in the past.) The next time I have a problem, no more searching for hours for a plumber, hoping that he will show up and do the work honestly. I'll be right on the line with Roto Rooter. (Did I mention that they give a free estimate, and they let you pick the time and day that's good for you, and they provide 24 hour emergency service?) After getting ignored , not called back . No shows from some of the "highly recommended" Homeadvisor candidates. I finally came to my senses and contacted some REAL pros . Roto-Rooters dispatcher responded , ready to dispatch . Deterred only by the massive snowfall in mid March . But the next day after snow cleanup Jimmy and Emil arrived early A.M. prepared to "get er done" . Thank goodness I called them . The drain system in my 117 year old home was nightmarish . Most main conduits were so severely clogged , caked and aged they could not be cleared . RR's techs trucks were fully equipped with all the materials and tooling needed to complete a massive job of repiping my ancient homes drainage system , replacing a toilet , and installing a supply line for a refrigerator ice maker , all in a single visit ! . The amount and quality of work these gentlemen accomplished , while maintaining cleanliness and neatness was absolutely startling . And they managed to save me a ton of money on the bill working , and by not having to worry about shoddy work requiring additional repairs in the future . It's the start of a long anticipated 4th of July weekend. The weather is supposed to be great. Just one more load of wash to finish up. Do I hear water dripping? Oh yes I do. The utility sink where the washer drains is overflowing. The drain must be blocked-- no there's nothing blocking it. It must be clogged. Bail out the sink. Get the plunger, grab some drain opener. Plunger not helping. Pour in drain opener. Wait. Wait. Wait. How can this be? The sink is filling up again. It's Saturday night on s holiday weekend. Now what? Wait til Tuesday? Stay awake the whole time to protect us from flooding? No. Call Roto Rooter. Maybe only have to wait til tomorrow. So I call. Answering service takes info-- they'll have someone call. So I sit down to wait. 5 minutes and my phone rings. Emil says he'll be right over. I'm amazed. He arrives, assesses the problem, snakes our main line and is finished within less than 1 hour. We live in a rural ...moving toward suburban area, in a home built in the early fifties. Everyone in the area has his own well and septic system. About 2 months ago our kitchen sink began backing up into our utility tubs. Our kitchen sink and utility tubs empty into their own drainage systems. We tried several things on our own including snaking the drain and using chemicals with no success. We called Roto Rooter. A technician was promptly sent to our home. He explained the possible problems and solutions and gave us a free estimate. Since we were going out of town we did not call back until we returned. Once again we received prompt service. Jimmy, our tech, was excellent. He was skilled and very thorough. Jimmy was friendly, neat with his work, and explained what he was doing and the intended result. Not only did he drill out the clogs but also installed a drain cap that would make any future problems more easily handled. We would recommend both Roto-Rooter and Jimmy for any plumbing drain services. read more

I want to give credit where credit is due. The Service Technician that came out was Ray Williamson. Amazing person. Very knowledgeable and quick to get the job done. It was him that saved the day. I am a tenant and i know the policy of Roto-Rooter is to go through the Landlord and that was not an easy task since she was so hard to get ahold of. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars was because of the lack of communication between me and the call center. Apparently they are hard pressed against talking to tenants and only landlords so there was some confusion and delay in our service but thanks to the patience and excellent work ethic of Ray, we were able to fix our problem (major clog in the main) as quickly as would allow. I would definitely use them again if necessary, I'm just hoping for a little more tenant involvement since the majority of the time they are the ones directly effected by the situation. After being disappointed by all the other plumbers I called, this was the only one willing to handle the job at a reasonable price and time. Other plumbers said they couldn't do the work for several weeks and one said he could not get to it until January 2021! I called Roto-Rooter asking if they could recommend a plumber I can rely on. I was pleasantly surprised to learn Roto-Rooter Scranton does all kinds of plumbing. I called on Thursday 11/19/20, told them I needed a new faucet installed in my bathroom/shower. Bill came on Friday morning; he assessed the problem. Then in a short time, Kyle came to do the work. The problem is finally solved. They used quality brand name parts that have a lengthy warranty. I was visiting my Aunt in Wilkes-Barre, PA from out of town and saw that BOTH of her toilets were broken. Called Roto-Rooter with the HOPE that they would be able to help her within a few days. They sent a technician (Mike) within an HOUR. We were delighted as my Aunt would have been unable to manage this situation on her own. Not only did Mike quickly assess the situation, but he put in two NEW toilets THAT DAY and worked for hours on the hottest day this year in a house with no central air! He was fast, courteous and extremely helpful. I honestly don't know what we would have done if Roto-Rooter/Mike hadn't literally come to our rescue. Based upon the speed and effectiveness of service I would recommend them to anyone and will use them where I live. And, Mike is definitely an asset to their company. In the past month, I've had Roto-Rooter at my home for two elective jobs and one problem job. The two elective jobs involved some preventive maintenance on my drainage pipes in the basement and adding a water source there. The problem job was an issue that developed as I replaced a fill valve in a toilet. In all these jobs, I have worked with Dave, Kiel, Tom, and Drew. All of them were professional, respectful, accurate about their work, upfront about all alternatives to doing the jobs (more or less expensive). All were patient about what papers I had to sign, what the predicted costs could be, and explained what the costs ended up being. My home was left as clean as it was when the crews came. I will not be calling any other plumbing service to my home in the future other than Roto-Rooter for all of these reasons. read more

Dave Kizer was the technician that came to investigate why our toilets would not flush correctly and our drains were draining very slow. Dave arrived promptly at the time given and within 10 minutes assessed the problem to be a plug/clog in our sewer line. Aproximately 30 minutes later Dave had the issue resolved. Now we can flush our toilets and all our drains all work as they should. I also wanted to give a shout out to the service department. I called them after 3:00pm and they were able to schedule me for the next morning between 8 and 10 AM. They also called me to advise that the technician was on his way. I hope i won't need them any time soon, but if I do, I won't hesitate to call them back. read more

Had a backup in our basement on a sunday night and decided to call Roto Rooter instead of the company we usually call and what a pleasant surprise! The service man who came was amazing! He arrived quickly(20 minutes!) and was personable too. Quite different from our experience with the last company we chose. Lee explained everything to us as he unblocked our drain and even offered us advice on how to maintain so it may not happen again or at least as often. Even though we paid about $50 more than the other company, it was totally worth it for the service we received. We will always call Roto Rooter with any issues with our drains from now on! read more

It's never a good day when a plumbing problem arises. We panicked and called every local plumbing contractor in our area. No one answered our call until we reached the friendly customer service at Scranton Roto-Rooter. They sent Mike bright and early the next morning and he quickly diagnosed, quoted, and fixed our problem. Strangely enough during our service call we uncovered a second (and completely unrelated) plumbing issue. Thankfully, Mike was here to diagnose and quickly fix our second problem. I phoned for emergency service around 7 pm. About 20 minutes later I received a call from Mike stating he was about 30 minutes away and would be there shortly. Approximately 30 minutes later he arrived and immediately went to work. He worked very professionally and diligently, was very approachable and knowledgeable about his craft and answered all questions without delay. I felt very confident about his skill set and the outcome was as predicted. Within 15 minutes my lateral drain was unclogged and everything was back to normal. I would recommend Mike to anyone with a clogged drain. Roto-Rooter needs more people like Mike. read more

I was very pleased with the service. I called the office and was told a tech would be dispatched. The tech was there within 15-20 mins. Kiel was very professional, we discussed options. He went right to work, he had the right equipment, and completed the job in a timely manner. He was very professional and is definitely an asset to your organization. Once completed he called in a coworker who was in the area, to check to make sure that the pipe wasn't leaking in the wall, which was a concern of mine. Getting ready to go to bed one night, and discovered that not only our main sewer line was blocked, but also a hole was blown through at the line where it exits the cellar....heard the water gushing in the old coal bin. I went into panic! After I calmed down, we prayed and decided to call Roto-Rooter. The technician, Lee came to our home at 1am....he was a comfort for us. This was my first time using Roto-Rooter services and I was very satisfied with the quality of their service. Kiel came out to take a look at a water leak in my basement and was able to trace the leak to a broken cold water supply pipe underneath the bathroom sink. He replaced the broken pipe with a new one and was thoughtful enough to replace the hot water supply pipe as well to prevent the other pipe from breaking in the future. Kiel was friendly, showed up on time, and clearly explained everything he was doing. I would highly recommend Roto-Rooter's plumbing services to a friend. read more

I wanted to write this review because the entire process from calling and scheduling with Amanda to calling after hours at 9pm to ask a question to Tom M who performed the service and fixed out clogged drain quickly was a great process. Amanda told me the technician would be there between 5 & 7 and would call before hand to let me know they are on their way. Tom M was wonderful in getting things done quickly and done right. When I called Roto Rooter it was in the morning, they had a serviceman out that same day. Very efficient when routing calls. Roto-Rooter 119--Dave, was very helpful with getting to the root of our problem. He explained what the problem was and how we could get the problem resolved.. As it stands now we have to wait until spring, due to frozen ground (the problem is the drain field). I would recommend Roto-Rooter and Dave, to any of our friends. This is our 2nd visit from Roto-Rooter and we couldn't be happier! Lee is always friendly and fast. He seems to love his job and is always happy and helpful. He comes in prepared for the problem and he remembered us from last time, so it helped him to know what to do to solve the issue again this time. (We have an interesting plumbing setup which could be difficult for someone new.) I love that we could get him back since he already knows our crazy setup.
