Roto-Rooter has never been the cheapest play, but they used to be available 24/7 as their advertisements say. No more - called for a water heater replacement 8/28 and earliest availability was 9/9 - 12 days!!! If you are not 24/7 then don't advertise it. Second - you can't command premium price for horrible service. Very disappointed. The positive news is that the private companies I called that advertised emergency service were all very responsive and their availability was one to two days. read more

The response was great. I requested service for a slow draining tub. (All other plumbing in the house was working/draining properly) The technician went directly to the basement, bypassing the tub completely and said, no problem and quoted a price of around $600 to clear the mainline. I said that was quite a bit more than I had thought and thanked him for coming and sent him on his way. I made an appt with Fletcher Sewer and Drain and although getting the timing of the appt was a challenge, they went to my tub, removed the stopper and promptly removed the clog that was about 3 inches down. Had I agreed to the service from Roto-Rooter, I would've been out close to $600 and still would've had a slow draining tub. Roto-Rooter was great in scheduling us right away, the employee was very nice, however know what you need or you may pay a lot of money and still have a problem. ***Extra Bonus: The Fletcher guy showed me how to deal with it myself in the future!! read more

We are moving from out of state and needed our pipes winterized as no one will be there immediately. They book appointments in four hour windows, so we had to find someone to drive there and wait each time. The first time they called three hours into the window to tell us that there were no plumbers available. This was after a verbal and email confirmation. The second time the plumber called 3.5 hours into the wait to say he didn't know how to winterize, and would send someone else out the next day. Every conversation we had with the woman at the call center was very rude. It was some of the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I contacted Roto Rooter office in Springfield, MA because it's nearby. Requested an appointment with a plumber to cap off some old faucets in the cellar that were leaking. Was given an appointment for the following week. Appointment time between 8 - 12. Morning of appointment received a call from dispatcher that the plumber was the only one working in the area, was on a job, running late, was running around looking for parts for the job he was on. I said, no problem. About 15 minutes later I decided to call back, explain what I needed to be done regarding the cellar faucets in case the guy had to pick up more parts and while talking to the dispatcher asked her if it was correct what a person in the office had told me the week before, that there was no charge for the plumber to give me a quote regarding the repair. She said that was NOT correct, that I would be charged a $99. fee for the quote and if I had the plumber do the job, the $99. fee would, as she described, "disappear". I seriously doubt that anything would "disappear", it would somehow be incorporated into the price. So it's my understanding that if the job was quoted to be $200. - $300. and I accepted the quote, fine and dandy.....no "quote fee". But.... if the job quote was four or five or six hundred dollars and I couldn't afford that, I'd still be on the hook for $99. To put it politely, sounds VERY shady to me. I think things worked much better the old-fashioned way, you look up a plumber in the phone book....of which we don't have anymore, you call, tell the repair person what the job consists of and get a price BEFORE that person even shows up at your house. Their pricing is very high, and very inflexible. Over $500 to run the snake straight down the line to clear a root problem. Whether or not you want it, they charge for a video inspection of your pipes. Same price to unclog a sink. Positively predatory. My complaint was not with the job they did (he got the job done pretty quickly, and politely). But the pricing is outrageous. My experience left a very bad taste in my mouth. I will not be using Roto Rooter again-- I'll find a smaller, non-chain outfit that charges more reasonably. I have checked w/ Mister Rooter, another national chain, and the quoted price was $350. That still seems rather high, and I'm sure a smaller, non-chain local business can even beat that. Steer clear of Roto Rooter! This Russian guy named Bur technician #274 charged me around 500 dollars to do the draining job, rushed the job, at the end told me that he finished the job but there is no guarantee, I needed to pay for $497 he charged to me, then he just left!!! A few days later, my basement flooded again that I have to call another drainer spent three hours there to fix the problem! just like the latter one told me that if he need three hours there, means Roto-Rooter did not do their job! I called Roto-Rooter to complain about it, and they said they are sorry but they can not do anything about it?! Terrible. Not only did the technician do absolutely nothing to fix the awful smell coming from the pipes but tried to sell me on their drain cleaner. I explained to him that I had used drain cleaner multiple times within the last month and the problem was not fixed. He proceeded to tell me too keep dumping more cleaner down. All it felt like was a pitch to scam me out of money for some awful drain cleaner that i used before and was usless. I would of gladly paid to have my pipes snaked out but he just seemed very lazy. I was a bit hesitant to go with a Nationally Franchised company, as I figured their prices would be high and service sub-par, but I was desperate with an "overwhelming" plumbing emergency....so I called. Quick to answer, and quick to get out to the house! Jeff came and advised that a Septic Tank pump might be beneficial before cracking any seals, so I sent him on his way at that time. After some digging around, I determined that the septic wouldn't be an issue. I called Dispatch and apologetically requested that Jeff returns. He did without complaint, and diligently worked for nearly 3 hours until all of the issues were resolved. These guys turned what started off as a very stressful day, into a sigh of relief. Less than a year later and the problem is back and probably worse than before. I noticed today that water was spilling on my foot while doing the dishes and when I moved the baskets under my sink that had my cleaning supplies I realized that water has been leaking from the pipes for God knows how long. The water was thick and gross. When I called today to complain and have someone call to fix it I was told that since it's over the 90 day warrantee it would be full price again. Excuse me? So plumbers here can do shoddy work that'll go bad in less than a year and the customer has to pay full price again? Also- the customer service center is in Maryland, not local at all so the best they could do was page the manager for this area to call me back. I learned that on my second call. I waited an hour for the first call back and when I called the number again that's when the customer service agent told me they themselves are not local. All she could do was re-page the manager. No call back yet. I'm furious. Pictures will be posted to show how badly my pipe was leaking. I'm giving them a one star for a specific reason. This guy sergeah arrived at my house promptly which was great....he was profrssional...And clean looking. None of that i have a complaint about. When I told him my problem he said he could have it fixed. I then asked how much it would cost me to snake my drain. He told me 475 dollars. I was like isn't that kind of expensive just to snake a drain. I asked what if he fixed the problem right away....does that mean you make 475 dollars an hour. He said yep. He then told me if I wanted to push water through the drain he would have to use special equipment that would cost 700 dollars. I then told him that i didn't want the service because of the outlandish expense. After dealing with him my neighbor came over and was like....Please tell me you didn't get roto rooter to do your work...they over charge and ripp you off. I then called 4 seasons property maintenance and they came over promptly.....used the same equipment...spent the same time....did the same thing...they were nice....clean...And did the job fast....cost me 175 dollars! They snaked my drain....cut out the roots that I had growing...which was causing the blockage. I'm not saying the roto rooter is bad just way over priced. ...I would call around first before and get prices....especially if you don't have a lot of money. read more

I had a disastrous sewage blockage in one of my branch lines coming from one of my bathrooms over the 4th of July weekend. In addition to that, I had guests expected to arrive in the evening for a get-together and that was the only functional commode in the house. (the other one is currently being remodled) I can usually handle a lot of small emergencies myself but this one required a professional or I would have been literally deep in my own crap. I tried calling several local plumbing services but the only one to come to my rescue over the holiday was Roto-Rooter of Springfield. Their tech, Sergey, arrived promptly and immediately got to work. In my not-so-professional opinion he was up against odds that could have resulted in a disastrous pile on my cellar floor. To make matters worse, the line clean-out was situated directly above my gas-fired heating system in my basement. I think that's a pretty crappy location for it but it's been there since before I owned the house. Sergey did an excellent job of keeping the horridness under control with minimal spillage. He also left everything clean. In the midst of some serious sh**, he remained as professional as ever. This is my second call to this Roto-Rooter. I had used them once about 4 years ago as well to remove tree roots that had invaded the main line that reaches to the city sewer system in the street. That visit was excellent as well with no complaints and again, saved me during an inopportune time. read more

Well, I can't give 5 stars because I can't really compare this to any other Roto-Rooter like services, but my experience was good overall. First off, I had a slow flushing toilet, in the middle of the woods in Granby, MA. Flush, fill, drain super slow. After I snaked and plunged, and tried buckets of water to flush, the tub started backing up. So I called Roto-rooter, and the person on the phone was super friendly and accommodating. She was able to get someone out to my house pretty quickly. Within 40 minutes Jeff arrived, and was fully honest with me. Since I was living in an old home, the stand pipe had no outflow. So Jeff said he thought it was probably a blocked pipe or full septic tank, and that I should call a septic company in first because even if he snaked the pipe, it would be over 500 bucks cause he'd have to pull the toilet, and that it might not do anything. So after getting the septic folks over and draining the tank (which had been neglected for YEARS and YEARS), that didn't fix the problem, and they suggested I call roto-rooter again. So I did, and they had all my info on hand immediately and sent another person over. This time took a lot longer to get to my house, but Sergey was nice enough, showed me all the prices for services. And he was honest, he said right away "Ok, well I need you to know this is expensive" and proceeded to show me his service list. He had to dig up an access hatch for the septic tank, and it was getting dark and cold out. But he was very quick, and found the problem and was able to clear some massive roots from the pipe going into the septic tank, and then everything was ok. He even showed me what to do to fix it if it happens again, saving me a ton of money. Not only that, but he went back and filled in the dirt not only from his work, but also from what the septic tank fellas had left. Now, I have no idea how much this service would cost somewhere else, but Sergey seemed to know exactly what to do right away with little explanation and it put my mind at east. So while MAYBE it was expensive, it was quick and easy and I felt much better after he did his work. I didn't feel swindled or lied to or anything. And to top it off, he provided me with a jug of pipe-shield to keep things clean. read more

My husband and I had a great experience with Roto- Rooter. After having a flooded finished basement and several sewage blockages in our newly purchased home (that no other plumber could seem to find or snake out), we were referred to Roto-rooter. I had my main line backup 4 hours before I was having 20 people over for a winter BBQ on a Saturday night. I called all of the local plumbers and only 1 called me back and the best they could do was have someone come over Monday morning. I called Roto Rooter amd they said the could dispatch someone to my house in Hudson,MA by 8:30 pm that same night. Although, later than i wanted, I agreed to the service. The technician Danny arrived to my house earlier than expected and got right to work. He was extremely professional and courteous. The job was done within 90 minutes and he left the bathroom spotless. He explained the blockage to me and want I can do to minimize future back ups. I had a sink back up on Easter Sunday with close to 20 people in my house! When I called the number I found in my local directory, it was actually the Springfield MA office I was calling. The dispatcher Ruby was very pleasant and told me she could get someone to come by within the next 2 hours. An hour later Ruby called to tell me the tech was on his way, he arrived exactly when I was told he'd be here. Jeff was very friendly, courteous and professional. He cleared my sink drain, told me about a $40 off coupon on line (which I printed off) and then cleaned the area up after he was finished. The charge was a LOT more than I'm accustomed to paying for the job that was done, but they guarantee the work for 6 months, no other plumbing service in my area does that. All in all, I'm happy with the service, although they were quite pricey, over $430 to clear/snake the drain. read more

Terrible. Terrible. Terrible. Absolute rip off with bogus charges. They are trying to charge our homeowner's insurance 17 THOUSAND dollars for the following experience: We had a wax seal cause leaking from our upstairs toilet, which caused water damage to our downstairs bathroom ceiling with water dripping. We called on a Tuesday morning and was told that plumbers are not 24/7 emergency service and that no one could come out to us until the next day between 8am and 12pm. This was baffling considering the website says 24/7 emergency service. My boyfriend stayed home from work to wait for them and no one came until 4pm to assess what was wrong. Two days later, the team came in and tore up the downstairs bathroom ceiling, walls, and floor. They installed some fans and dehumidifiers to run for a few days to get the moisture out. They had to come back the next day, Saturday, to do the upstairs bathroom. They tore up the bathroom floor and a part of the wall. They installed four fans and two dehumidifiers to run. On Monday the plumber came and completed the repair for a separate $250-300. On Tuesday, the fans and dehumidifiers were removed from the bathrooms. On top of this, the communication between project manager, his crew, and the plumber was terrible. No one showed up when they were supposed to, no one knew what was going on, I would ask questions and no one could give me an answer. These guys are trying to say this was a Cat 3 clean up, trying to charge for 5 days of fan and dehumidifier use on the upstairs bathroom when it was only 4. Trying to charge for work on the kitchen, porch, and stairs which they DID NOT TOUCH. They're charging for safety equipment that was not used, as we had tenants home with them the whole time. They're charging for plastic barriers that were NOT set up and left behind while the rooms dried out. They also tried charging almost $400 for extra fans that were NOT left behind. We have video of all the fans and dehumidifiers set up in both bathrooms and the dehumidifier in the kitchen. Best part is, some of their fans and dehumidifiers are still sitting on our porch waiting to be picked up. No one has picked them up or contacted us to get them in over a week. I would like to add that the contractor putting the bathrooms back together is only charging $6k total. read more

I had a badly clogged sink in my bathroom. I was able to schedule an appointment fairly quickly and the technician (Dan) came within the time window specified. He was very courteous and professional. After he was done repairing my sink he cleaned up after himself and put everything neatly back in its place, something plumbers rarely do. He answered all my questions and gave me advice on how to prevent clogs from happening in the future. The only downside was the price...it was expensive for such a small repair ($475), but he did a great job. read more

I had a blockage in the upper portion of home plumbing line, causing a completely stopped sink, weak toilet draining, and gurgling in fixtures down the line due to blocked venting. Called several plumbers during business hours, and received no answer or call-back until trying Roto-Rooter. Their call center was curtious and provided me an appt. for same-day evening service. Although my appt. was for 8:30pm, they did not arrive until 9:30pm, but they updated me by phone 3 times to appologize for being a little behind and assured me they would be there asap. The plumber was curtious, confident, professional, straight-forward, and explained pricing up front. He finished the job relatively and unexpectedly quickly, with an excellent result of completely curing the problem. My only negative comment would be the pre-set pricing was very steep for the amount of time the technician ultimately ended up spending to fix the problem, even considering his travel time. But my understanding was that price would have remained the same even if labor had proved more involved, which gave peace of mind. read more

I had two drains that were progressively getting more blocked. I spent hours trying to snake them out until I finally bit the bullet and called Roto-Rooter to get it fixed. I have used them before and know they have the equipment to do the job. The service tech, Jeff Dulude came to my home the same day I called. He charged 457.38 for one drain, and did the other for no charge because he was already there. My initial reaction to the price was horror. I'm glad both drains were getting blocked up at the same time, or else I would be paying double that amount. Losing a week's pay over a hairball in a drain is tough, but I guess that's what you got to pay these days. The service was excellent. The technician Damian #639 was very polite and was able to diagnose, quote, and unclog the pipe from the kitchen sink all in about an hour. Service was excellent but was very expensive at $507 to snake the pipe and add liquid treatment. Jeff D was very professional, explained their flat rate approach(which was higher than I expected but may had made out if it took longer with complications).
