She said I could contact her when I was ready to buy another one. So that's exactly what I did. Through a simple text conversation, as I was on-site looking at a new unit, she helped me check things I wouldn't have thought about. We have a Norditrak s22i stationary bike that had a broken crank arm (the pedal arm was stripped and coming loose). After a disastrous experience with Norditrak customer service, I found Cynthia on Yelp. She spoke with me over the phone, reviewed the bike schematic, and recommended a solution that we could do ourselves. She told us that if it didn't work, and she'd come out to replace the part. I really appreciated her expertise and honesty in starting with a solution that was low cost to us. We tried her recommendation and it fixed the bike for about 6 months. Of course, she was the first person we called when it broke again, and she came out to replace the part. She fixed it and it works well! Cynthia/Rough & Ready is amazing! (And I don't write Yelp reviews hardly at all.) This is the second time she has helped me. One of the two chains on my old Schwinn Airdyne exercise bike came off. As a precaution, she ordered both chains and replaced them both so that I could avoid problems with the second one which was bound to happen. She had to come back more than once because she needed to make some special adjustments to the replacement chain which wasn't exactly the same length that was needed. She knows what she's doing. My bike is working so much better than before! Also, a year and a half ago, she came and checked out my old treadmill which would all of a sudden stop while I was on it. (Very disconcerting and not very safe.) She diagnosed the problem, said it wasn't worth trying to fix it but she serviced it, told me to avoid programs with multiple changes in inclines, and I got another year of use during which it ran OK, and told me after that, not to put any more money into it. I am giving R&R (Cynthia) the highest rating and she never even touched my machine! Here is why: I called and spoke with her about my Proline 540 treadmill. It was over 20 years old and running well enough except for a loud spinning noise. I sent Cynthia a phone text video of the running treadmill (with audio) and she told me what she thought was wrong. Other treadmill repair companies in the Bay Area would barely talk to me via phone unless they could come onsite and charge me an average of $200 knowing the unit might not have available parts. Cynthia took her own time to research several treadmill part suppliers for my model to make sure she wouldn't waste our time. No charge. She sent the part shop links to me and gave me a fair explanation, estimate and advice. But the reason I highly recommend her is she was very honest, up front and has a good work ethic. She told me that we might fix the spinning noise, but there are more than likely several other issues with an old machine that would make sinking even more money into this relic a bad idea in the long run (sorry for the pun). Instead of taking the money and burning bridges (like so many other small businesses seem to do nowadays), it was more important to her to build a relationship with me by providing facts and research all at no cost. I recently bought a NordicTrack T85 treadmill and after opening the box realized I could easily make a dozen mistakes trying to put it together from a Youtube video, much less the manufacturer guidelines. I found Cynthia from an online search and am very glad I did. She did a terrific job putting it together, providing good advice and answering questions I realized I should have asked in the first place. One part was defective; fortunately it only affected the fold-up abilities so I could still use the treadmill. She demonstrated where the problem was and that NordicTrack needed to send a replacement. After the part finally arrived, Cynthia came back to my house, which is a pretty lengthy drive from her part of town. She installed the part, demonstrated how it worked, fine-tuned the belt and provided some final advice on maintenance. All without any additional charge, to fix a problem from the manufacturer. She advised me not to spend a lot of money to fix it and get a heart rate belt instead which is more accurate. She advised me the brand and type of the belt to get. I was not impressed. I described the problem clearly over the phone. She would not tell me whether she could fix it. She wanted to see it. I explained that I was concerned that it wasn't worth her time, since she already told me she couldn't get parts for the machine. She convinced me that it would be worth it, that she wouldn't overcharge. When she saw it she merely repeated back to me what I had told her over the phone. Then she began searching for additional unrelated problems. Then she wiped dirt from the frame into the bushings. I told her I'd rather vacuum it out if it was in her way. She then wiped away the grease in the bushings and then proceeded to explain a complicated process I should go through to get grease back into the bushings. She explained that taking it apart was too labor intensive to be worth it. I don't understand why she came out. She knew there was nothing she could do for me. Cynthia was amazing! We had a virtual treadmill adjustment that solved the issues. I had screwed up when trying to lubricate the belt and messed up the alignment of the front and rear roller. I had no idea how to go about fixing the alignment of the belt and she used step-by-step instructions over FaceTime to tell me which tools to use and how to make repeated minor adjustments then check to see if they worked. She tried many things, had me order a new power cord, traced electricity problem to control panel. She made calls and gave me the info. to order the correct part. She worked tirelessly to fix my machine - it was complicated due to it being an older machine and how badly it was damaged. I have a monstrous machine that got jostled and jolted in two moves knocking it out of order. Cynthia is literally the most honest repair professional I have ever encountered-this is not an absolute, but fact. I told her the problem and she let me know that it may not be worth the home visit estimate expense and fix, even though it would be a money loss to her to not come out and take a look. Most people... heck, any person would've just said "sure, I'll come out, for a charge" and then tell me it's not repairable, but not Cynthia. After our call, without prompting, she did a bunch of quick research and emailed similar, even better equipment from various internet postings; again, no money to her, just to be helpful. Rough and ready came to my house about 3 weeks ago to look at my recumbent bike. They took apart the bike (a few screws) and determined that a bearing might need to be replaced. They then squirted some lubricant (which I provided) inside and put it back together. 45 mins total but more like 30 mins of actual work. . I was told they would contact schwinn to ascertain availability of replacement part and contact me for next steps. I was then charged a "reduced" rate of 125.00 for this. I have never heard from them since regarding the part. Not very good service at all. read more
